The last U20 Afcon in 2025 was meant to be hosted by CIV but they withdrew and Egypt got the hosting rights in March 2025. Tournament was held in April-May 2025.

Nigeria won the Wafu B zone held in October 2024 beating Ghana in the final while CIV finished 3rd.

Now in 2024, Egypt had already secured 2nd place in UNAF's Northern Africa Zone Qualifiers. Morocco was 1st, Egypt was 2nd. Those were the 2 northern slots before Egypt even got the hosting right in March 2025.

But CAF did something funny. They also admitted Tunisia who finished 3rd in the North African Zone. The logic behind this was to ensure an extra slot for them since Egypt is host.


Now fast forward to the 2026-27 U20 Cycle and I am reading that only One slot will be given to Wafu B??

They literally had 13 teams at the last U20 Afcon just to accomodate the North. Why cant we have 13 teams again to accomodate the West B?

CAF under Motsepe is such a demonic organisation.

The way CAF favours these North Africans still dey amaze me. Motsepe has made it look as if they are the Alpha and Omega of African football.

CAF has clarified that only one team can qualify from WAFU B zone to join Ghana the host of U20 AFCON in 2027.

South Africa will have to be very careful with this Ivory Coast team because their coach is Reynald Pedros. Pedros is well known for winning the UEFA Women's Champions League twice with Olympique Lyonnais Féminin (2018 and 2019). Not only that he previously coached the Morocco women's national football team, leading them to the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations final and qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. The guy get experience ooo.

This is more like Lessons to the Madugu harsh Critics. He beat this Tanzania side in a friendly just days ago and did not go full throttle at them from minute 1.

I say this not as a pro-Madugu, but as a neutral observer on our coaching choices. I know we can do better than Madugu and I know we need a coaching upgrade most definitely but I cannot deny the efforts of Madugu. Saying otherwise is being totally dishonest.

I agree with you that there is so much quality in this Nigerian team and that Madugu has tried to keep his team on a winning note. However my major concern is how he can fully harness that team with his potent attack line and quality midfielders. I am majorly concerned about the defense line. No Plumptre and I don't know if Rofiat Imuran has fully recovered from injury after the Tanzanian friendly. That defense has less options. We can see how he brought up Glory Ogbonna to replace Imuran and then replaced her again. Ohale is ageing, truth be told. Oladipo can partner with her in CB but what if one of them gets injured, who replaces them- Isah?

This SA team beat Japan not too long ago so yes this is a shock result.

WAFU B games whether U17 or U20 are majorly survival of the fittest. Skill is not enough, stamina and bodily physique also matter. And to think that only two teams from WAFU B can qualify for the U20 AFCON makes it sickening because the best of African footballers are from this region.

By the way, I heard Ghana will host 2027 U20 AFCON. If true, why then are they playing in this tournament bikonu?
