A mother’s genetics determines how clever her children are, according to researchers, and the father makes no difference.

Women are more likely to transmit intelligence genes to their children because they are carried on the X chromosome and women have two of these, while men only have one.

But in addition to this, scientists now believe genes for advanced cognitive functions which are inherited from the father may be automatically deactivated.

A category of genes known as “conditioned genes” are thought to work only if they come from the mother in some cases and the father in other cases. Intelligence is believed to be among the conditioned genes that have to come from the mother.

Laboratory studies using genetically modified mice found that those with an extra dose of maternal genes developed bigger heads and brains, but had little bodies. Those with an extra dose of paternal genes had small brains and larger bodies.

Researchers identified cells that contained only maternal or paternal genes in six different parts of the mouse brains which controlled different cognitive functions, from eating habits to memory.

Good news for anyone who has ever twitched with rage at the friend who constantly posts selfies of their apparently perfect life online: the biggest offenders could be damaging their romantic relationships.

Researchers in the US are working to understand how selfies affect our self-perception, and the quality of our romantic relationships.

The team behind an initial study entitled The online ideal persona vs the jealousy effect found that the more selfies a couple take, the more likely they will view their relationship as a “lower quality”.

They pinned this down to jealousy stemming from the comments about the pictures, as well as the creation of an “online ideal persona” that was different to real-life.

In their lawsuit filed last week in federal court, the students namely Thankgod Harold, Success Jumbo, Savior Samuel, Godsgift Moses, Promise Owei & 30 others, complained that after collecting millions of dollars from Nigerian government, the university started discriminating against them.

A 17-year-old Mexican teen named Julio Macias Gonzalez, had reportedly died after having a stroke caused by a love bite. The teen gave his family a terrible scare when he started having convulsions at the dinner table while with them. The tracks were meant to be included in an album full of their duets. However, they were never able to finish the complete album because of their differences. Mercury didn’t like Michael bringing his llama into the studio while recording, and Michael didn’t like Mercury using too much cocaine in his living room. Lisa Marie Presley is the daughter of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, who is also a singer and songwriter, was once the wife of Michael Jackson. They both fell in love as Jackson increasingly began to turn towards her for emotional support and she was able to persuade him to go to rehabilitation to recover from his drug abuse. Then he would give the most “heartfelt and profound vocal performance” in the control room. He would also sing the entire string arrangement with stops and fills into the micro-cassette recorder. Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, has sent a bill titled, “Hawkers’ Right Bill,” to the House of Assembly in the bid to legalise hawking in the state.
Ayade, who disclosed this on Thursday during an interaction with journalists in Calabar, said it was insensitive for any state government in Nigeria to ban hawking without providing an alternative.

He said any decision to ban hawking amounted to an infringement of the right of the hawker.

Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari said after the 2011 elections that “if what happened then (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.” He did not specify who would be the baboon and who will be the dog. Curiously the dog and baboon theme has persisted though not quite in the fair battle as the metaphor has it, but for whatever a proverb is worth, the identities appear to have been assigned.
In Ogun state, in May this year a former president and close friend of Nigeria’s ruling government, Olusegun Obasanjo named a 3-year old chimpanzee “Patience,” the name of the Nigeria’s former first lady. Nigerians laughed it off. There was no arrest made and no warning. While the christening of the chimp “Patience” could be argued to have the potential to trigger bloody riots by hundreds of ex-militants with many betrothed to former president Goodluck Jonathan, this was a none issue at the time.

Today however the Nigerian police present that a similar naming in the same Ogun state of a dog, “Buhari” has the potential to incite chaos from the blood thirsty and unhinged. Like the 2011 elections, the baboon-dog fight is apparently being rigged.

Celebrity pet namings are by no means novel or unique to Nigeria. The “Teddy bear” was named after US president Theodore Roosevelt following a shooting incident.

A prototype Apple 1, a holy-grail item in electronics memorabilia, has been sold for $815,000 (£618,000).
Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built just 200 of the computers in 1976.

The model auctioned this week contains tell-tale signs that it is a prototype, probably made prior to its manufacturing run.

One computer historian says it is “one of the first, if not the first ever” Apple computer.

This “celebration edition” Apple 1 was expected to make $1m, but auctioneer Charitybuzz told the BBC that the final bid was $815,000.

That means it is not the highest-grossing Apple 1 computer – that distinction belongs to a rare working version that sold for $905,000 at a Bonhams auction in New York in October 2014.

A spokeswoman for Charitybuzz said that “about 80 bidders” had been watching the item. She denied reports that there had been a last-minute $1.2m bid, apparently made too late to be accepted.

Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, based in New York, Charitybuzz said.

The winning bidders, Glenn and Shannon Dellimore, said they want to take the computer into schools and universities to help inspire young people.

Mr Dellimore told the BBC: “It is incredible to think that this was most likely the very first Apple 1, the unicorn or holy grail of computers, the original very first prototype.”

No more than 70 Apple 1 computers are believed to still be in existence. The machine – initially named “Apple Computer 1” – first went on sale in July 1976, and was discontinued in October of the following year when the company turned its attention to building the Apple 2.

The “celebration edition” is different from the other Apple 1s because it was manually soldered on to a blank PC board, meaning it was not part of the only two production runs of the device.

Mr Wozniak was quoted by Charitybuzz as saying: “Only a few Apple 1s, on blank (not green) PC boards, may have been manually soldered, although I’m not sure of it.

“We arranged the wave soldering with the company that made the PC boards. But we may not have wanted to wave solder a run (of maybe 10 or more board) until we manually soldered one or two to debug them.”

Apple historian Corey Cohen, who assessed the machine, said in a promotional video that the celebration edition is “one of the first, if not the first, Apple computers because this appears to be one of the sample boards”.

According to a timestamp on the PC board, it was made in the summer of 1976.

Jobs, Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple on 1 April 1976 in California in the garage of Paul and Clara Jobs.

The trio’s first major project was the Apple 1 computer, which was first unveiled at the Homebrew Computer Club – a hobbyist group in Silicon Valley.

To help finance the machine’s production, Jobs sold his VW Microbus, while Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator for $500.

The Apple 1 went on sale in July 1976 at a price of $666.66.

About 175 of the 200 units were sold, while the remaining units were destroyed.

Two weeks after Apple’s formation, Mr Wayne sold his 10% stake for $800.

The company’s annual revenue last year was $234bn.

A 28-year-old man, Ikechukwu Daniel, suspected to be a member of a notorious kidnapping gang, has revealed how he and members of his gang were perfecting plans to abduct billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, before he was arrested.

Daniel, who is a native of Imo State but was born and raised in Kaduna State, narrated that they missed him once when he attended a function at Ibadan Oyo State, due to heavy presence of security operatives, but they decided to take a little time and prepare properly for the operation.

Daniel had been arrested by operatives of the Inspector- General of Police Special Intelligence
Response Team, IRT, for allegedly masterminding the April 27, 2016, abduction of Senator Iyabo Anisulowo in Ogun State.

The 70-year-old senator, who represented Ogun West Senatorial District, between 2003 and 2007, was abducted alongside her security guard on her way home from her farm along Igbogilad Road, in Yewa Local Government area of Ogun State.

Senator Iyabo who was also a former Minister of State for Education, was released after 10 days in captivity following pressure by the police on relatives and friends of members of the kidnap gang who were mainly Fulani natives.

Crime Guard gathered during the week that IRT operatives who were acting on a directive by the Acting IGP, Ibrahim Idris, arrested one Mohammed Babuga, who provided information that aided the operatives in trailing Daniel, popularly known as ‘Ike’, to his hideout in Festac Area of Lagos State.

He was subsequently apprehended while negotiating a N4m ransom from relatives of another victim in his gang’s custody. .

During his interview, Daniel confessed that he joined the kidnap gang in 2014, after he was released from Oyo State Prison. He explained that he was arrested in 2012 for hijacking a petroleum tanker truck on the Lagos-Ibadan express way and during his stay in prison; he met one Mohammed Babuga, a Fulani who eventually led him into kidnapping.

He added that he usually negotiated for the gang after the kidnap of their victims because of his expertise in ensuring that the ransoms are collected successfully.

Dainel, further explained that after Senator Iyabo was kidnapped, he was the one who ensured that the woman’s life was spared as her family refused to pay ransom for her release.

Some of Senate President Bukola Saraki’s aides involved in the November 20, 2015 theft of N310 million being transported to the senator have reportedly disclosed why they stole the cash.
Tracked down by SaharaReporters and speaking anonymously, some of Mr. Saraki’s aides, who are currently on the run, reportedly said the senator was in the habit of warehousing large volumes of cash, mainly for use as bribes to judges, investigators and prosecutors to ensure the scuttling of his trial for false assets declaration by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The theft, first reported by SaharaReporters, featured five officers of the Department of State Security
(DSS) led by Abdulrasheed Maigari, the most senior of the DSS officers attached to Senator Sarak‎i.

Mr. Maigari hails from Dungo local government area of Taraba State. The other DSS officers involved in the heist were Ibbi George from Adamawa State, Patrick Ishaya from Plateau State, Peter Okoye from Delta State, and Solomon Yunusa from Kogi State.

Other participants included four other aides of Mr. Saraki and five serving military officers led by one Captain Hassan Mshelia.

The aides snatched the N310 million cash from a bureau de change operator at 5 Nana Close, Maitama in Abuja.
SaharaReporters says the aides at large revealed to their correspondent that Senator Saraki often used a house, 18 Lake Chad Crescent, Abuja, as a warehouse for illegally acquired money. They said huge stashes of cash from First Bank Plc. branch located at Coomasie House in Abuja were often stored in the house.

The aides added that the funds were then moved on behalf of the Senate President for use in a variety of special “political assignments” ordered by Mr. Saraki.

The sources said cash was regularly moved from the bank and the house on Lake Chad Crescent to Mr. Saraki’s mansion at 5 Nana Close in Maitama, from which lawyers as well as judges and their designated representatives collect the cash to obstruct justice.

They said Mr. Saraki regularly used five of his official security aides, supported by five soldiers usually chosen by Paul Ibok, his Chief Security Officer, to move the funds. The aides disclosed to SaharaReporters that, between October and November 2015, there were three cash movements to No 5 Nana Close.

Christo and Theo Menelaou reportedly fertilized a single egg each by way of their surrogate, resulting in the birth of triplets. The Menelaou’s triplets also contain a set of identical twins.

“When you are gay, there is always the thought that it just may not be possible to be a parent no matter how much you would love to be,” Christo Menelaou told Sky News. “It’s very hard to be accepted for adoption and we were told we would always come after heterosexual couples. Police in Uganda on Thursday, August 18th, raided a notorious abortion clinic and arrested the doctor, Moses Kaweesa. The police officers (disguised in plain clothes) raided Miriam Medical Centre in Bwaise and rescued secondary school girls who were being prepared to undergo abortion.
Drama ensued when one woman identified as Joan began to cry and plead for leniency because she was about to get married.

Suraj Mahto, 22, hit the headlines in June when he abandoned his wife Lalita and married her mother, 42-year-old Asha Devi.

The unusual affair began when Mrs Devi came to stay with the couple in the village of Puraini in the impoverished state of Bihar last year.

She looked after Mr Mahto when he became ill and they fell in forbidden love.
