The Argentine struck another hat-trick at APOEL on Tuesday and is now the all-time top goalscorer in the Champions League with 74 https://solutioncrib.com/discussion/foto/492231_hp.jpg Lionel Messi cemented his place as the greatest goalscorer in Champions League history in typically emphatic fashion by grabbing a hat-trick as Barcelona won 4-0 at APOEL on Tuesday. Messi's first, a close-range effort in the 38th-minute, saw him break the record held by former Real Madrid and Schalke star Raul as he claimed his 72nd goal in Europe's elite club competition. It also took him two ahead of long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo. He followed it up with two more in the second half: the first a clever chip over the advancing goalkeeper after a nice through ball from Dani Alves; the second a tap-in after Pedro had cut the ball back. The 27-year-old has accumulated his haul in 91 games for Barcelona in the Champions League, while Ronaldo has scored his 70 in 106 matches. Raul needed 142 appearances to reach 71 strikes. Ronaldo is in action for Madrid at Basel on Wednesday. Source: http://solutioncrib.com/discussion/2151/Trending |

https://solutioncrib.com/discussion/foto/nnpc-fire.jpg PROPERTIES worth millions of naira were on Thursday morning, destroyed when fire razed a building with over 100 rooms situated on Tanimowo Street, Opposite NNPC station, Apata in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State. According to one of the occupants of the house, Ajani Olawale while speaking with Our Source said: "The fire started from one of the apartments in the house and before anyone could get to know about it, it has gone out of control because the owner of the apartment was not around at the time of the incident. This place is overcrowded, we do not know ourselves. We have over a 100 rooms in this building and I must tell you it is very difficult to identify who goes in and comes out of the house. There is no form of effective communication whatsoever. I will suggest the government should take over the house." He further informed that, it was the prompt response of the fire fighters from the NNPC and men of the Oyo State Fire Service that salvage the situation, else, it would have been more disastrous. Our Source, however, gathered that the building was being used for an hotel, before it was converted to a residential building, after the demise of the owner. This, another victim attributed the cause of the fire. Speaking with journalists at the scene of the incident, leader of the Oyo State Fire Service team, Adeleke Isiaka said: "According to our findings, the fire started from one of the kitchens which is located at the extreme of the house. As you can see now, the situation has been brought under control." Isiaka, however, advised residents to be careful as we approach the dry season as it is usually accompanied by series of fire incidents. "Whenever anybody is cooking either on the stove, electric cooker or gas cooker, one must not leave it and do something else. A close watch must be kept on it because if there is any fire outbreak, there will be prompt response to avert disaster," he said. Caretaker Chairman, Ido Local Government Area who was at the scene to assess the extent of damage done by the fire in a chat with the Our Source, stated that: "Although the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as well as the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA) are in the best position to provide palatives for victims of this kind of incident, I want to state here categorically that I will officially inform the governor about this and as it is a known fact that he is a listening governor, I believe something will be done for the victims both at local and state level." https://solutioncrib.com/discussion/foto/Wizkid1.jpg *Wizkid Controversy seems to trail Wizkid as honey attracts bees. The talented lad was in the news again recently and this time, it was alleged that he was arrested in far away Kenya for smoking Indian hemp. Reports in a Kenyan newspaper, Standard Media, stated that Wizkid was arrested in Nairobi in his Plaza Crown Hotel room on Saturday afternoon. The arrest was said to be in connection with allegations that he was caught smoking Marijuana. It reported that Wizkid was caught smoking inside the hotel where smoking is prohibited. The hotel's front officer was reported to have queried Wizkid for smoking the prohibited substance, which led to a heated argument that reportedly attracted the hotel security officers who ended up calling the police to arrest him. According to the report, before police officers cuffed and drove him to Capital Hill police station where he was quizzed, the hotel had already charged him with Sh50, 000 smoking penalty, which he was said to have paid through his credit card. In the report, Kenyan singer Victoria Kimani, who was described as 'his newly found flame' bailed him. She was reported to have been with Wizkid at the hotel the previous day. Because of the incident, the paper said Wizkid who was due to leave for Lagos at around 3pm was forced to cancel the flight. Effort to contact the hotel by Saturday Beats was futile as calls made to its telephone numbers could not connect. However, Wizkid's manager, Seun Johnson, said that although the artiste was in Kenya for different shows, he was not arrested for smoking marijuana. "It is just a rumour that they are peddling online. He was in Kenya at different days for different events. There is no truth in what they posted online," Johnson said. The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, on Saturday picked an Expression of Interest form of his party, declaring his intention to run for the Lagos State Governorship seat. Ikuforiji, who picked the form at the All Progressives Congress state secretariat in Ikeja, told newsmen that he believed that the state deserved the best, which he was willing to give, come 2015. “I believe very much in the future of the state and I know that the best is what the people deserve,” he said. The speaker said he had discharged his duties professionally and creditably at the legislative arm of government and he had begun a transition to the executive arm as he picked his form. “It is the same best we are taking to the governor’s office so that the residents will have the globally accepted government,” he said. On his chances, he said it was not his first time of contesting an election and he had no fears. According to him, the members of the party know the best person to choose among the aspirants. As a Speaker of the House, I contested to get to the Assembly and contested to become the Speaker. “To contest is not an issue and to go round the membership of the party; they know who is the best among the aspirants in the APC,” he said. Ikuforiji, however, said he did not rule out the possibility of a consensus candidate emerging from the aspirants. “You talk of consensus candidate, it is all part of the game; there can be consensus candidate and we will not be the first. Even President Goodluck Jonathan is the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. So, there is nothing wrong in having a consensus candidate,” he said. The speaker urged the residents to wait till he begins his campaign in a few days time when he would roll out his plans in key areas. http://solutioncrib.com/discussion/2057/suggest |

The European Union (EU) regulators on Friday approved the merger of communication platforms, Facebook and WhatsApp. The regulators said Facebook's $19- billion purchase of the mobile messenger, WhatsApp, would not hamper competition. "While Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are two of the most popular apps, most people use more than one communications app," EU Competition Commissioner, Joaquin Almunia, said in a statement. We have carefully reviewed this proposed acquisition and come to the conclusion that it would not hamper competition in this dynamic and growing market," he added. US regulators also approved the acquisition in April, but warned Facebook that it had to abide by WhatsApp's stringent privacy practices. The social networking giant announced the acquisition of WhatsApp in February. The smartphone app is one of the most popular messaging platforms in cyberspace, with 600 million users worldwide, according to the European Commission, the EU's executive body. There is fear that one student lost his life while many others sustained various degree of injuries following a protest that broke out in the Rivers state owned Polytechnic in Khana Local Government Area between students and security personnel attached to the institution. Trouble started on Wednesday afternoon when security operatives responded to reports at the venue of an election by members of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students, Rivers Polytechnic chapter. It was gathered that while the election to elect new executive was on, a student identified as Effiong was accosted by some members of the school security, but during interrogation the student refused to corporate with the operative, a development that attracted the Chief Security Officer. The offence of the student was not clear,it was learnt that the police came into the scene and got the student beaten and reportedly took him away in a van. Later on Wednesday evening, rumours went viral on the campus that the student had passed on, though security operatives dismissed it as false. As some students started going to the venue of their examination on Thursday morning, the situation of the previous evening resonated, especially as Effiong had not yet returned. In the twinkle of an eye, students gathered in large numbers and started singing that they wanted to see Effiong, if he was not dead, but the Chief Security Officer (CSO) calmed the rampaging students, assuring that their colleague was alive and would be back soon. The situation went out of control as some persons used the opportunity to loot property, including computer at the school ICT centre, while offices of the Rector and the Bursar were touched with valuable property stolen. Several minutes into the chaos, a team of Policemen from the Bori Area Command and some operatives of the Joint Taskforce moved into the campus and fired tear gas canisters to quell the riot, even as students took to their heels. Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature, said some students of the Polytechnic had an altercation with their CSO over their colleagues that were detained. "As soon as I received the information I ordered that the students should be released. There is no report of death or casualty in the polytechnic. There is calm now because our men are there to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order", Bature said. Meanwhile, it was gathered that the school authority ordered the students to vacate the hostels immediately until further notice. http://solutioncrib.com/discussion/1997/suggest |
The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has tendered his resignation letter as leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Chairman of the Party's Board of Trustees (BoT). In the resignation letter addressed to the National Secretary of the Party and submitted in the Party's Abuja office on Monday, Mr Obi said he was resigning as the leader and BoT Chairman, the position which he was appointed to in January 2014 by the National Executive Council of the Party, which, according to him, was yet to be ratified by a Convention of the party as stipulated by the constitution. Obi cited family and personal reasons, but did not give details. He, however, wished the party well in future endeavors while reiterating the fact that he remains an ordinary APGA member. When contacted, his Media aide, Mr Valentine Obienyem confirmed the development. In his words: "If you recall,my boss was nominated the Leader of the Party and the Chairman of her Board of Trustees in January. The nomination was yet to be ratified by a Convention of the Party, when he submitted his letter of resignation. "Since the convention will take place next year, people blamed him for the woes of the Party on the reason that he had failed to intervene in matters, affecting the party, not knowing that without ratification of his nomination, he had no platform under which to intervene." Mr, Obienyem further said that his boss remained an APGA member, and would continue to support the Party, at all times. http://solutioncrib.com/discussion/1993/suggest |
