PoliticsNasarawa Impeachment Fails As Panel Dismisses All Charges Against Al-makura. by Solutioncrib(op): 2:45pm On Aug 05, 2014
https://solutioncrib.com/discussion/foto/Almakura-nasarawa.jpg
*Tanko Al-Makura, governor of nasarawa state

The lawmakers had vowed not to appear before the panel.

The seven-member panel investigating allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Umaru Al-Makura has dismissed all the charges.

The panel dismissed the charges after concluding its work and listening to the counsel to the Assembly on Tuesday morning.
The State Assembly had on Monday declared the inauguration of the panel by the State Chief Judge, Suleiman Dikko, as unconstitutional saying it would stay away from the probe.

But on Tuesday, the Assembly made a u-turn, and sent a legal team led by Ocha Ulegede to represent it before the panel.
The other members of the Assembly's legal team were John Mathew, P.A. Daffi, Steven Idikwu, Ache Obande and Abraham Aruta.

The legal team arrived at the venue of the sitting around 8.45 a.m. and took the seats marked for the state assembly.
The legal team said the panel was breaching the Nigerian constitution.

Mr. Ulegede then presented a protest letter written by the legislators and argued that some members of the panel were also members of a political party and that their appointments negated the provision of Section 188 in the composition of the panel.
He said that the provision did not give the Chief Judge absolute power to appoint members of the panel.

Mr. Ulegede also said the provision stated that panel members must not belong to any political party, be a government appointee or be a person with questionable character.

The legal team said the panel had no right to set guidelines for the
conduct of the sitting.
"Section 188 of the constitution spelt out clearly how the panel should be composed. They are three fundamental issues among which is that member of the panel cannot be a card carrying member of a political party.

They cannot hold government appointment and that the panel
does not have the power to set the rules of proceeding guiding the sitting".
The legislators' legal team said two members of the seven-member panel, Abdu Usman and Mohammed Keana, are members of the Peoples Democratic Part, PDP.

The legal team also said Joel Galadima is on the payroll of the state government.
Mr. Ulegede told the panel that the house does not recognize the panel and then requested to leave the premises.
After the panel heard the protest of the counsel to the State Assembly, it went on a brief recess.

When it resumed from the recess, the panel, which had listened to Mr.Al-Makura on Monday, dismissed the 16 charges against the governor.

PoliticsIsrael Withdraws Troops From Gaza by Solutioncrib(op): 11:49am On Aug 05, 2014
The BBC reports that the move came moments before the latest truce - brokered by Egyptian mediators late on Monday - came into force at 08:00 local time (05:00 GMT).

Israel has announced the withdrawal of all of its troops to "defensive positions" outside the Gaza Strip.

Israel claimed the main aim of the conflict - to destroy militants' tunnels - has been achieved.
Gaza officials said the four-week conflict has killed 1,800 Palestinians.

Some 67 Israelis have also died.
"The Israel Defence Forces will be redeployed in defensive positions
outside the Gaza Strip and we will maintain those defensive positions,"

Israeli military spokesman, Lt-Col Peter Lerner, said.
Just minutes before the truce came into effect, air raid sirens sounded in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as Hamas militants fired a barrage of rockets at central Israel. Israeli forces also staged raids in Gaza shortly before the ceasefire began.

Israel launched Operation Protective Edge on uly 8 with the stated aim of ending rocket attacks and destroying tunnels used by Palestinian militants.
In a statement just ahead of the withdrawal, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that since then it had taken out 32 tunnels designed to allow militants to carry out raids into Israel, destroyed 3,000 missiles on the
ground and killed about 900 "terrorists."

The Assembly had initially vowed not to appear before the panel.
Barely 24 hours after the Nasarawa State House of Assembly vowed not to appear before the seven-member panel investigating impeachment charges against Governor Umaru Al-Makura, the Assembly made a u-turn and sent a six-man legal team to represent it before the panel.

The team lead by Ocha Ulegede has John Mathew, P. A. Daffi, Steven Idikwu, Ache Obande and Abraham Aruta as members.
The legal team arrived the venue of the sitting around 8.45 a.m. and
took the seats marked for the state assembly.

The Chairman of the Assembly's Committee on Information, Baba Ibaku, had on Monday said the lawmakers would not appear before the panel because of alleged constitutional breach by the Chief Judge (CJ),Suleiman Dikko, in the composition of the panel.

"I have said earlier that this panel is on its own. They are just a busy
body. If the governor likes, let him appear and present his response but the report will not be submitted to Assembly. It is a panel of the CJ."

The panel, led by Yusuf Usman, had on Monday given the Assembly till Tuesday (today) to appear before it.
Before Monday's adjournment, the counsel to Governor Al-Makura,
Noruka Udechukwu, had drawn the attention of the panel to paragraph 7 subsection c of its guidelines which states that "where the House of Assembly fails or neglects to appear and lead evidence in proof of allegations, the panel upon proof of service may dismiss the allegation."

The panel, set up by the chief judge, is investigating the 16-count charge of gross misconduct the Assembly accused Mr. Al-Makura of.

PoliticsPresidency Reacts To Alleged Cash Gift To Chibok Parents by Solutioncrib(op): 6:34am On Jul 30, 2014
The Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, says the allegation that the parents of the abducted girls from Chibok were given a 100 million naira cash gift by the Presidency is completely untrue.

Reacting to the report, Abati said that nobody distributed any envelope after the meeting.
"The meeting was held in the villa, a public place. After the meeting, the President left and the parents as well as the children went into their buses in the presence of the media.

"There was no time after the meeting when envelopes were distributed or money was given", he said.
He said that the President was not part of bribing and would never do anything to bribe anybody;

"This issue is not about money. We are talking about human lives here.
"The allegation is completely wild. What they are claiming is unknown to the President. Whoever is claiming it should prove it because no such thing happened.

He said that the commitment of the President was to get the girls back safely. It is not about bribing anybody.
"This is a very serious matter and we will like to appeal to those who want to play politics with it, using all kinds of tricks to ridicule the efforts of the administration, to always appeal to their individual conscience and realize that what we are dealing with here is a very serious matter and
not a matter of mischief."

The bomber did not succeed in igniting the gas station as planned, a situation that would have clearly led to many more deaths and injuries.

In the aftermath of the failed suicide bombing attempt on a military facility by a female terrorist who blew herself up in Gombe recently, troops have arrested three suspected female terrorists who have been
secretly recruiting ladies into the female wing of the terrorists group.
The suspects, Hafsat Usman Bako, Zainab Idris and Aisha Abubakar were intercepted while travelling to Madagali from where they were to transit Hafsat Usman Bako
to the forest to reunite with their cohorts.

Investigations revealed that the suspects, led by Hafsat Bako, have the mission to recruit members into the female wing as well as conduct espionage for the group. Hafsat's link with the terrorists group had earlier been a subject of investigation in 2012, when security agents on a manhunt for one Usman Bako, her husband who was identified as a terrorist, stormed their residence in Jimeta.

This resulted in the discovery
of an AK 47 rifle and 2 loaded magazines. Though Usman Bako later died in an encounter with troops in Sokoto where he had relocated to continue his terrorist activities, Hafsat continued with the terror group specializing in surreptitious recruitment of members into their fold.

PoliticsFuel Scarcity Looms As Oil Workers Insist On Strike by Solutioncrib(op): 10:33pm On Dec 30, 2013
Fuel scarcity looms as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and
Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior
Staff Association of Nigeria, PENSASSAN, yesterday insisted on going on strike tomorrow to protest the proposed sale of the nation’s four refineries by the Federal Government next year.

https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Abuja-Scarcity.jpg

Already, most petrol stations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, remained shut to customers in anticipation of the strike.
The two unions had on December 17, 2013, threatened to go on
nationwide strike from this week if the Federal Government did not
withdraw its plan to privatise the refineries.

Our Source observed that some filling stations were locked up, though they had fuel in stock, apparently hoping to cash in on the anticipated scarcity.

Even the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, mega station at Kubwa was not left out.
Our correspondent who went round the city reported that most of the filling stations such as the two Total filling stations and Oando at Kubwa were locked.

A manager of a filling station at Kubwa claimed that the station had not been supplied fuel in the last five days A customer, Mr James Morris, who was apparently angry over the development, told our source that he had been to over four stations at Kubwa without getting fuel to buy.

He said the filling stations were still not awake to the reality that the strike had been called off, believing that the stations had fuel but just refused to sell in anticipation that NUPENG could still go ahead with its threat.

At Karu, Our Source observed long queues in the few fuel stations that opened as motorists rushed to fill their tanks, while other people rushed in with gallons to get fuel for their generators.

Even black marketers too
were on queue to stock up.
The black marketers were ready to reap from the intended scarcity as they were seen displaying fuel in gallons in some streets, particularly near the filling stations that shut down.

PoliticsPDP Can Never Win In Nigeria Again — Amaechi by Solutioncrib(op): 9:43am On Dec 29, 2013
https://media.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Rivers-State-Governor-Rotimi-Amaechi-360x225.jpg

AHEAD of the 2015 presidential election, the Rivers State Governor, Mr.Rotimi Amaechi, has said unless the Peoples Democratic Party embraces
rigging, it can never win elections in the country.

The governor, who made this remark while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday night, said with the exodus of PDP members to the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party was on its way out of
power.

He said, “Most of you may have known that I have since left the PDP to a better party called the All Progressives Congress because the PDP is a drowning party and the facts remain that PDP is a drowning party.
“Watch out before March if we don’t have the numbers that we are looking for. So, you can’t call us opposition anymore because there are three arms of government and only two are electable; the executive and
legislature.

“Yes, the PDP has the national executive, but we are inching close to having the legislature. Who then would be called the opposition if we have it?”

Amaechi, who predicted that more governors would defect to the APC in 2014, disclosed that one of the reasons why he left the PDP was as a result of the attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, to interfere in the governance of Rivers State.

He also cited the ceding of Rivers resources to other states, the absence of Federal Government projects in the state and bad governance as the reasons why he dumped the PDP.
“But the basic reason why we left is the resources of Rivers State. I have told all of you on several occasions that the wife of the President was not elected the governor of Rivers State.

I am the governor of Rivers State
and husband to Judith Amaechi.
“I left because of the attempt by the wife of the President to
micromanage governance in Rivers.
I said no, you can’t; so that if I fail,
they will not say the wife of the President failed, Governor Amaechi failed.

I am accountable to God and to men and women,” he added.
Amaechi, however, said Nigerian politicians were averse to telling the truth and blamed Nigerians for the lack of interest in knowing the truth.
Recalling his claim that the Federal Government could not account for the sum of $49.8 bn and N2.3 trn oil subsidy, Amaechi said governors, at a time, refused to collect their states’ monthly allocations for three months.

He said, “When the politician reel out numbers, you should hold him
accountable to the numbers he has reeled out. If you don’t hold them accountable, he will just say anything he likes.
“When I said the Federal Government could not account for $49.8 bn,they said, Amaechi, how did you know and I pulled out the letter and said the authority is the CBN governor.

“So, let him deny it. When I said they could not account for N2.3 trn for oil subsidy, they say what is your source? I was in the meeting with the President.

We told the President that under General Obasanjo, the total oil
money was N300 bn. The first year of President Goodluck Jonathan, 2011,oil subsidy became N2.3 trn.

Did we buy more machines, expanded Nigeria?”

ABEOKUTA - Tragedy struck, yesterday, at the Olabisi Onabanjo
University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, in Ijebu North area of OgunState when a lecturer, Dr Segun Onabanjo, was shot dead by suspected cultists.

Onabanjo who until his death was a senior lecturer at the Department of Sociology in the university, was said to have been killed by the assailants who stormed his residence in Odomolasa area of Ilese-Ijebu
and broke into his home at about 1:00 a.m.

Solutioncrib gathered that while his assailants were attempting to break into his house, he was reportedly shouting “e bami gbe ibon mi (kindly bring me my gun)” to his kids and relatives in an attempt to scare away
the armed men.

The gunmen eventually, in the wee hours, shot the lecturer dead and carted away some personal items.
It was learnt that the body of the deceased had been desposited at the mortuary.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the killing, saying the command was on the trail of the suspected killers who escaped through a nearby bush and would do everything possible to bring them to justice.

The police spokesman said some of the suspects sustained injuries in the gun duel and urged members of the public to promptly report anybody
found with bullet wounds to security agents.

“The incident was quite unfortunate. The police command is seriously investigating this case and the suspects would be brought to justice.

We are already working on some leads; the police combed the area and found blood stains at the back of the house of the lecturer.

The police traced the blood and hopefully, it will help in this case,” he said.
Adejobi appealed to residents to be careful in handling such crime
situation, saying they should be wary of showing off even if they have firearms.
