Good morning my people

In the past, I have heard of "reciprocity" fee in cash being paid at the embassy by those whose Visas were approved.

Please is that still valid as of today?

Good day my people, I was lucky to get a new date of July 2nd yesterday (Abuja)

I have to ask this question. My sponsor's SOA (6months) is quite voluminous so do I still go ahead and print every single page of it or do I Print select pages, maybe the first month and probably the last 2 months or so?

Any advice is appreciated, Thanks

Goodluck to those who their interviews are coming up this week. God go see us through

If you have initially picked a date, Check the Portal for the Emergency appointment there, then click, read and follow the instructions. you will be required to upload documents backing up your request.

Goodluck

Please, can I get a sample message/text to go with the request for emergency/expedited interview?
I learnt both payment receipts should be uploaded (SEVIS & VISA)

I fall with the 60days
Thank you.

Good morning People,

For those who their U.S contacts are having issues making the SEVIS fee payment via Western Union, tell your U.S contact to try mailing the money and a Print Out of the SEVIS fee coupon via Money Order as an alternative.

Mine was paid through the Money Order and I got the confirmation email 3 days after.

Now I have an issue that I hope the experience friends here could help me with. I made a request for emergency appointment as my start date falls within 60days (17th Aug). The request was approved and I went ahead to reschedule on the CGI portal. the earliest day I now saw is 6th August (Abuja). So I don't know whether to pick the 6th Aug or check again to see if another earlier date will be available?

what do you guys think?

Lagos
9th June 2021
COA $39,274
Funding: Nil

Thank you to everyone that constantly engage with this thread. I’ve learnt so much by reading people’s transcripts and from all the information shared. This is my own little contribution.

Interview scheduled for 8:45am, done probably at 9:50am

VO: please pass your passport and I20
Me: Good morning. Then I go ahead to pass the requested documents.

VO: Good morning. What school are you going to?

Me: I’ll be going to TAMU for my Masters in public Health with my major in Epidemiology.

VO: What will this course do for you?

Me: I’ve worked as a doctor for 5 years and I’ve seen that as a clinician you can only help people on a one-on-one basis. With my public health degree, I’ll be able to affect the populace on a larger scale. I also found out from my experience working during the pandemic that Nigeria has poor data computing and analyzing skills and my degree in epidemiology will equip me with epidemiological skills to...

VO: Okay that’s fine. How long is your program? Is it one year, two years?

Me: The program is for two years with a one year optional practical training. (My i20 has a 3yr validity period on it)

VO: Who will be funding this trip?

Me: My husband

VO: What does he do?

Me: He works in Bleep as Bleep

VO: Have you been to the US before?

Me: Yes. In 2017 and 2018

VO: So both your kids are US citizens?

Me: Yes. But there’s three of them actually.

VO: And will you be traveling with your family? Husband and the kids?

Me: My husband will not be going with me because of his work obviously but my children will join me at some point. They’re too young to be separated from me for the entire length of my study. I plan to go alone now then they’ll join me later.

VO: That’s okay. I will be approving your visa. Will hold onto your passport. Take your i20. You’ll need it at the port of entry and this slip will show how to retrieve your passport. He hands me the white slip as my heart bursts in gratitude to God.

Fam, Not a single document was checked and I went there armed with all my delivery details, zero balance, bank statements, certificates, etc

I want to appreciate Chibertha. I remember reaching out to her when I saw she had a similar situation as me and she gave me a very vital tip that helped me.

Finally, I’ll like to say that I’m not sure that enough emphasis is placed on HOW you fill your form. I think that a huge percentage of the decision to approve or refuse the visa has already been made by what your form and profile says. Don’t outsource it to anyone. Do it yourself. No one knows you better than you and when you’re not sure, ask questions and get it right on the form.

After all is said and done, the Grace of God is the most important factor. That day, as we stood on the queue hearing everyone get their interview done, the black VO (there were three of them that day and the other two were Caucasian) did not give anyone no matter what they said. I remember my heart beating so fast. So many refusals that day. I’m just thankful to God!!!

N.B Apologies for the lengthy post.

My humble advice to future candidates
1. Always answer your questions simple and clear. Long answers are a turn off for them
2.No need to fake accent, cos it would just put unnecessary pressure and you may end up saying what you wish not to say
3. Always be relaxed, don't do like you having a job interview. see it like as if you telling your friend about your goals and achievements
4. Also don't allow those touts to exhort telling you to print unnecessary documents, the documents you need are stated already. Those guys chop up to 10k from me

Car TalkPhotos From The Eleko Motor Race by somtee747(op): 4:41pm On Dec 19, 2016
Car enthusiasts, petrol heads, car junkies, celebrities and those looking for a weekend thrill, all gathered at the beautiful Eleko beach, Eleko-Igando in Lagos for the the seventh edition of the Eleko Motor Race which took place over the weekend, and the event brought the best motor racing could offer in Nigeria. The Eleko motor race which has been steadily re-energising the Nigerian Motorsport Culture since 2014 since 2014 had drivers in their 4 x 4 vehicles, Tricycles and bikes battling to be crowned "King of the sands 2016" in their categories.

Six Teams which comprised of a driver and his navigator with their SUVs and off-road vehicles competed in the off-road rally which covered 26 kilometres of hand-selected back-roads along the coastline broken down into six special stages. They pushed their SUVs to the limit while testing their abilities to race and successfully navigate the treacherous terrains mixed with twist and turns the race course threw at them.

At the end, after hours of racing and navigating, three teams successful completed the race and made it back while three teams including the team driving a Range Rover succumbed to the obstacles on the race course and had to be rescued. The Team driving a Land Rover Defender came in a champions while the teams driving a Toyota Sequoia and Nissan Xterra completed the podium in second and third positions respectively.

Car TalkTwo Men Jump Start A Car With Ak-47s by somtee747(op): 5:17pm On Oct 21, 2016
In places in the world, where having an AK-47 was more important than owning an iPhone, it's not unusual to find out that the weapon could serve non lethal purposes such as a jump starting a car, I guess that's what these two soldier were trying to tell the world in this video.

The video, apparently taken somewhere in the Middle East, shows what appears to be members of the local military or militia jumping a car using two AK-47s. The steel barrel and wire stock are sufficient to carry the electrical charge from one car to another. The rifles aren't long enough, so each man is also holding a long piece of wire that is touching his AK. After a few seconds you can hear an engine rev and the men stop.

This is not a recommended way to give someone a jump. If the AKs had touched metal on metal, it could have been very bad for everyone. so if you want to try this, make sure you are in a war zone and the enemy is closing in.

Car Talk2003 ACURA MDX Review by somtee747(op): 1:01pm On Sep 30, 2016
The 2003 Acura MDX is the first of its generation of crossover SUVs from the Acura division of Honda Motor Company. It is a brilliant SUV that comes with a lot of features that keeps its owner safe and happy while cruising on the road.

The 2003 MDX is powered by a 3.5 Litre VTEC V6 engine that generates up to 260 horsepower and 250 pounds-feet of torque available from 3500 to 5000rpm, with a five-speed automatic transmission that features gear ratios spaced to match SUV requirements. It’s a road monster, with the ability to go from 0-100km in 9 seconds; that a fast one when you match it to its weight of 4420kg.

The 2003 MDX comes with a unique four-wheel-drive system (named VTM-4) that engages during off the line acceleration as well as when wheel slippage is detected, but, most of the time, the 2003 MDX runs in front-wheel-drive mode for good fuel economy. Some all-wheel-drive systems normally cruise in front-wheel drive, engaging the rear wheels when sensors detect front wheel spin. Not so the 2003 MDX. Slippage, the Acura engineers’ reason, can only occur under acceleration. And so the 2003 MDX engages the rear wheels as well as the front wheels whenever the driver calls for acceleration, without waiting for slippage to occur.

Additionally, the system offers a lock mode which can be activated and operated at low speeds and provides permanent 4WD , and the equivalent of a locked rear differential. So, no matter how terrible and muddy your village road can get, the 2003 MDX will see you through.

The 2003 MDX comes in two editions, Standard and Touring Editions. The standard 2003 MDX comes with a long list of luxury and convenience features: leather seating surfaces and leather door inserts; wood-patterned trim; keyless remote entry; power windows, door locks and mirrors; power tilt-and-slide moonroof; cruise control; seven-speaker AM/FM/cassette stereo with in-dash CD player; power adjustable front seats; alloy wheels and a multi-function digital trip computer.

While the Touring version adds a killer 200-watt, eight-speaker Acura/Bose music system with in-dash six-disc CD changer; a keyless remote linked to the two-position driver's seat and mirror memory system; eight-way adjustable passenger seat; roof rack; an outside mirror that tilts to track progress while backing up; rain-sensing windshield wipers; and special alloy wheels. The auto-dimming rear-view mirror is standard.

SPACE is the MDX biggest attribute. Its intelligent body design and compact engine space makes the 7-seater vehicle roomy and comfortable to seat in. Though the third row is designed to occupy two rows, but it can take up to three and best allowed for children and teens to occupy.

When the all the seven seats are upright, the car provides a small cargo space, but on folding the third and second rows reveals an enormous cargo space that could swallow up two ATM machines (Just exaggerating!). This is where owning an MDX can save you lot money if you were into a business that requires you moving cargo a lot and it is therefore ideal for business men and women who have a range of cargo size to move and can saves them hiring a bus to transport cargo.

The Acura 2003 MDX offers a superb balance of car and truck attributes. When on the move especially on the high way, you will notice that the rear wheels look slightly bent making the 2003 MDX look like is sitting down, thus ensuring it go through corners and bends with ease. This concept is also found in the Honda Pilot and other SUVs from Honda. Some say it is as untippable as a rhino.

In terms of safety Acura, a Dual-stage front airbags and side-impact airbags for the front seats are standard and All-disc antilock brakes are also installed. The U.S government gave it a four star rating out of five stars which was a top rating among its competitors then.
With a fuel tank capacity of 73litres, the 2003 MDX is estimated to do 7 kilometers per litre (7Kpl) in the city and 10 kilometers per litre (10 Kpl) on highway in terms of fuel economy but understand this may not be accurate due to vary road conditions such as bad roads and traffic.

For a modest market price, The 2003 Acura MDX offers the middle class earners a range of features that are found in other more expensive SUVs. It that kind of car you would want to acquire when you are tired of being in a sedan (feeling close to the ground) and want to have the upper class experience.

Hey, this is my personal review so feel free to share your own thoughts and experience about this car especially if you own one or have driven one.

Car TalkMan Arrested For Using Frying Pan As A Steering Wheel by somtee747(op): 12:04pm On Sep 07, 2016
The idea to replace a steering wheel with a hard metallic frying pan is something Mr. Bean would do in his comedy series and people would be like 'yea, its Mr. Bean', but, when an Australian man attempts same...its like WTF?!!

According to South Australian Police reports, on Sunday morning, patrols were called to Norman Street following reports of a suspicious red Mazda sedan and male occupant loitering in the street. On inspecting the car after speaking with the driver, they found out that the steering wheels had been replaced with a metal pan and the front number plate had been altered. Further checks revealed the car was unregistered and uninsured and had recently been defected and the defect label had been removed.

The 32 year old has since had his car impounded and has been charged for numerous traffic offences including using a pan as a steering wheel.

Car TalkUnderstanding The POWER TRAIN Of Your Car by somtee747(op): 11:19am On Aug 30, 2016
The power train of a car is simply the make up of its engine and the output of that engine. With the population of cars in Nigeria on the increase, and Auto companies and dealers offering many models and brands of cars, understanding the power train of a car is necessary in making the choice of a car to acquire because, it gives one an indication of how much power that car produces and rate of fuel it converts to do so and also, what the car is capable of under good and extreme roads conditions, and in different weather conditions.

Let’s take this excerpt from the 2014 movie “Need For Speed”, the scene where Julia played by Imogen Potts meets Pete and Tobey Marshall at the showcasing of the 2014 Shelby Mustang GTR.

Julia walks up to Pete and Tobey who were both admiring the outcome of the work they did on the Mustang, she starts off without introducing herself, “How fast does it go?”

Peter who saw her approach turns to her, “Fast, very fast”, he answers then shakes her hand.

Returning the handshake, she continues “aren’t all mustangs fast?”

Peter smiles and answers, “well this one was built by Ford and re-imagined by Carroll Shelby, the greatest performance car builder in American history.”

Then Tobey who had been silent initially cuts in, “she is not from around here Pete, so she probably has no idea who Carroll Shelby is” he said, making reference to her English accent.

But Julia pretends to ignore him and focuses on Pete, “then why is it so fast?”

Pete with a proud grin on his face, “it’s nine hundred horsepower baby!”

Looking unimpressed Julia asks, “Is that a lot?”

Taken aback by her question, Pete flashes a quick shocking glance at Tobey then back to Julia, “are you kidding me?” he starts off, “look miss, this isn’t the kind of car you can just go to the mall and buy. Trust me when I say, it’s one of a kind.”

Still looking a bit unimpressed, Julia nods and then asks, “Can I see the engine?”

“Sure!” replies Tobey grudgingly while Pete brings out the car’s remote key and presses it. The mustang beeps and the hood pops open as the three walk up to it.

Now the interesting part; Julia stares at the engine with keen interest and then she starts, “5.8 litre, aluminium block, SVT super charger and racing headers” then in disdainful tone, she concludes “it’s quite nice actually.”

The shock on both Tobey and Pete’s faces was priceless.

Most car owners and buyers after purchase don’t even know what goes on under the hoods of their cars or how much power they have at their disposal. They wake up in the morning, enter their car, start the engine, put the gear in ‘D’ or gear one for manual and they are off driving them around, only remembering when to refuel their tanks.

For those who just want to buy a car that meets their needs, they might not be interested as there is no shame in not knowing, but there’s also no excuse for not getting educated and as Nigeria is becoming more and more automobile enlightened, I would hate to see you fake your way through your conversations with your guys or worse, an auto dealer. So let me explain some basic car specs involved in the performance of a vehicle.
Engine Type and Capacity

Engine type refers to the configuration of the engine. Most cars produced are in a multi-cylinder configuration and the cylinders usually are arranged in one of three ways: inline, V or flat. Each cylinder has a volume of fuel and air mixture it can take, which together make up the engine capacity. So when you hear a 3.3 liter V6 engine, it simply means that it is a V engine with 6 cylinders and a 3.3liter volume capacity. The bigger an engine is, the more power it can produce, but at the expense of more fuel. It is wise to note that there is no ideal engine as automakers are constantly tweaking engines in order to deliver a variety of performances in relation to fuel efficiency.

Horsepower (hp)

Horsepower is the common measurement of an engine’s output. By pure definition, 1 horsepower is the power needed to lift 550 pounds one foot off the ground in exactly one second. In simpler terms, horsepower is one figure to consider for mid- and upper-range engine response. It is usually attributed to the top speed of the vehicle. There’s no magic number for ideal the horsepower for an engine, as other variables like engine torque, vehicle weight, aerodynamics, and gearing all play supporting roles in the car's overall performance.

Torque (lb-ft)

Torque is a force applied at a non-zero distance from an object's centre will tend to rotate the object. If a wrench is placed on a bolt and a force is applied to the end of the wrench, the bolt will turn. If the same pulling force was applied directly to the bolt, it would not turn because the force's direction passes through the object's centre. The amount of torque is determined by multiplying the magnitude of the force by the force's distance from centre. It is measured in pound-feet. One pound-foot equals the twisting force produced when a one-pound force is applied at the end of a one-foot-long lever. You’ll see the pound-feet measurement of torque touted with horsepower, even though horsepower often gets all the credit for an engine’s performance. Remember, though, low- and mid-range response is where torque plays a big role. Torque is attributed to the car’s acceleration.

0-100 km/h (0-62Mph)

This term refers to the length in seconds to accelerate to 100kilometer per hour from a standstill. It is used more as a bragging term. In the United States, they use 0-60mph (miles per hours). Movie involving car racing like ‘The Fast and Furious’, enjoy the use of the phrase. It’s not uncommon for sports cars to clock four-second runs, while a typical SUV trails behind at around nine seconds or more. However, bear in mind these numbers are typically gleaned by the factory and/or professional drivers on a test track under optimal conditions. So beyond bragging rights and for real-world practicality, it’s good to know this figure as an indication of how quickly a vehicle can accelerate to highway speeds.

All-wheel drive (AWD) vs. four-wheel drive (4WD)

By definition, the commonly understood difference between an all-wheel drive and a four-wheel drive boils down to your involvement with the vehicle’s power train operation. Four-wheel drive modes are usually controlled by the driver, engaged either by dashboard controls or console shifters. All-wheel drive typically refers to automatic, seamless operation with little or no driver intervention. Either way, you get extra traction in many conditions at the expense of more fuel and maintenance to run an all-wheel/four-wheel drive vehicle versus a comparable two-wheel drive model.

Transmission: Manumatic vs clutchlessmanual vs CVT transmission

Transmissions have evolved into role players. In the past, it was just a manual or stick shift versus automatic transmission but as technology has advanced, Manuals now want to work like automatics while automatics are into getting shifted around like manuals. Therefore, transmissions have become highly sophisticated. While some interchange the terms, many refer to a manumatic as an automatic featuring a separate driver-operated, gear-changing mode. On the other hand, clutchless manuals may require full-time gear selection by the driver for the smoothest shifts, but usually feature a separate fully automatic mode. A CVT automatic is a continuously variable transmission. It infinitely adjusts its ratio in response to factors like load and throttle position without the perceptible gear changes of a conventional automatic. From the driver’s seat, the response feels much more linear. Depending on the setup, a CVT can also return better gas mileage versus an old-school slushbox.

Having a good knowledge of what's under the hood of a car gives one the confidence needed to face the daily challenges that lay in wait on the roads of Nigeria.
