I don't want to comment on your alleged relationship with the President, however, the rest of your posts are more of attacks and less of facts. I have been the most uncompromising critic of the President and First Lady, because they are corrupt.Evidence? but there is SCARCITY of KEROSENE. Is kerosene not fuel?Fuel is subsidized and regulated, kerosene and diesel is deregulated and not subsidized. Kerosene also is NOT scarce. It was scarce weeks back but things have been normal for a while now. The voters from the South East and South-South who support GEJ are doing so for their selfish interests and greed. You see nepotism and tribalism are evils.Following your line of reason, voters of Buhari from the North are doing so based on . . . ? |

I'm watching the crowd at Katsina on AIT. It is massive and very disorganized. I hope INEC can handle accreditation there. |

dayokanu:So it's only bombings that affect lives and property? And the bombs started in May 2010? Completely ridiculous!!! |
Kay 17:So life and property were safe before May 2010? This is ridiculous!!! |

GenBuhari:The only link you can remotely accuse of being biased is the dawodu link. And that depends from which glasses you look at it. The other links are non-nigerian and historical. Besides, facts are facts. I am a bit disappointed at this excuse. GenBuhari:Completely false. You know it and Buhari knows it. GenBuhari:Treated and exposed as part of what ruined his Economic Recovery. GenBuhari:Paid off some, unable to pay others and got us brand new $3bn debt which equates to about $450bn today (if direct inflation values are used in calculation) GenBuhari:May be good or bad depending on which side of the fence an economy is on in terms of exports. I have explained this using China's policy. GenBuhari:All the others actually, but that's a whole new discussion. Lets stick to what we have. GenBuhari:Actually you do need links to back them up. I do accept first hand witness narration in my arguments also. I have talked to a number of them who lived through his era. Some even worked as Junior Engineers in his PTF days. On the Economy, in terms of general job loss and scarcity of essential, they all support what I have said. I will be willing to listen to a different opinion if you know anyone however. |
Sagamite:MEND has been the main force for a while. Asari was quietened since during Obasanjo. Your history/knowledge on this subject is seriously inadequate. Sagamite:GEJ was the head of the committee setup by Yar'adua on the NigerDelta. He went to the NigerDelta when he was the VP and had several meetings with relevant personalities there. About the guidelines - nice we have an agreement. Will start after today's election. |
Maitama, Close to hilton, is peaceful but weather is hot. I think it is generally going well from updates. May the souls of Corpers killed in the deadly Suleja bombing rest in perfect peace. |
Where in Bayelsa exactly? It is peaceful in Yenegoa, Nembe and Yeneka. I just got off the phone with friends there. |
Can you go through each issue I raised up and offer a more intellectual rebuttal if you have any? Shying away from evidence with such bland statements doesn't cut. I displayed references that backed up all my claims. You can not accuse me of lying when you fail to even attempt to display any opposing references. I am at shock as to how you can accuse me of lying even when I backed up my claims with relevant links while you falsely claim Buhari paid of all our genuine debt and fail to show even a link from his campaign website to support this position. GenBuhari:What does this have to do with Buhari's collosal economic failure? |
@Sagamite, You are sounding (or writing) very much like an old nairalander I know from the sports section. Some Man U fan. ![]() Anyway, the issue below is an example of your skewed logic and for this reason we must have to agree on guiding principles to go further Sagamite:October 1st 2010 and January 1st 2011 bombings happened during GEJ. A series of threats from MEND hit our papers about 2 weeks ago. Your whole assumption is baseless and torn apart by these apparent facts and more. It is obvious that these facts totally disagree with your assertion that the militants cooled off because "their person is in power". Disturbingly most of your other writings are also organized around unfounded assumptions aka External Reserve and Bribery. Logic must have valid inferences and yours fall well short of that basic principle. Lets look again at the case of the militants. My claim is that the region is experiencing relative peace because GEJ is successfully implementing the Amnesty agenda. I also maintain that this is an achievement. Facts clearly support this claim. 1. You agree with me that the region is more peaceful than pre-GEJ 2. Amnesty agreements - allowances are being paid, skill acquisition, human capital development etc. 3. Even MEND came out to criticize sending militants abroad for job specific training. Militants were being sent to Malaysia I believe, to acquire the skills needed for work in the new refineries. MEND criticized this by saying that the militants would have menial jobs in the refineries and other areas of oil and gas. Sagamite:The above is fantastic, well most of it save your allusion. I forsee an ambiguous discussion so we need to agree on some guidelines - 1. Achievements based on antecedents are admissible. What I mean is this, if no one could achieve a feat in the past and someone now can this can then be accepted as an achievement no matter how small the feat may be. For instance, Nigeria is a country plagued by project failures during implementation phase. So if GEJ is implementing a project successfully, even though he did not plan this project, it would be acceptable to attribute this to him as an achievement. 2. Logic should be based on valid inferences or drawn from facts. Mere speculations should be discouraged except agreed by us both. 3. First hand experience without links can be admissible 4. Consideration should be given to the 10months period that GEJ has been in power. Expecting him to deliver a project that could take years to go from start to finish is simply ridiculous. In view of this, plans included in the budget and whose implementation has begun should be admissible, ongoing projects should be admissible once proof is provided that they are indeed being implemented. Tell me what you think and I can begin. |
Kobojunkie:I think you are right on this one. Much of my discussion on this like I noted in my response to Sagamite has been on the premise that GeJ has carried out implementation. Kobojunkie:I think I included links where asked. Just specify exact areas you have issues with. |
Sagamite:Explain to me if we are talking about plan or achievements because you seem to balk anytime I throw up plans? Sagamite:You have no facts and I still do not agree this is a valid inference because of the threats, kidnapping and bombings that went on in the early periods of Jonathan's era. Please drop this assertion except you are ready to show valid facts or line of reasoning. Sagamite:It was $42bn. See my source here. Actually it is $32bn now. It was $36bn for a few days in May. Also how foreign reserves are used would be too complicated for us to trash it out here. Also it will be based on possible inferences and/or speculation and as you can see, we don't exactly agree on how we accept validity on those subjects. It is just going to derail the thread. One thing is for sure, it is near impossible for the Government to deep it's hand in the external reserves to bribe delegates or militants. This is as baseless as it is as laughable. CBN gives a general use of foreign reserves but the data isn't up to date. Whoever was updating this site must have resigned after 2007 See this link.Sagamite:10 months!!! Sagamite:Jega has not failed. We can only discuss this under those circumstances. Sagamite:It would be logical to put nearest accuracy into consideration and it's both ways - UNICEF Data (See Definitions and Data Sources) and INEC's Registration figures (double registration and underage registration) Sagamite:Like I said earlier, everyone is disappointed with the postponement. I am not arguing this. What I said and still stand by is GEJ can not be blamed if Jega postpones due to logistic reasons. Is GEJ in charge of logistics? Jega has been given all the legal support to carry out his duty. Now if the election fails, that is another discussion. Sagamite:Apparently where you are, the govt have a good record of taking high profile cases to court in 10months and get convictions. This is laughable. There are numerous murder cases that took years to get court in the US. If the cases are under investigation, then we have to wait to get the report of a concluded investigation i.e prosecution or not. GEJ ordered an investigation into the Haliburton scandal in June 2010, I believe. Sagamite:• http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/electricity-output-now-4000mw-fg/ • http://allafrica.com/stories/201103071045.html Sagamite:Kidnappings have reduced. It was mostly in the South East. As for Jos a committee was set up to find a solution to the crisis. They have since handed in their recommendation which is being carefully considered. Soldiers are also in Jos to maintain peace. Granted the situation is worse that we expect but this is a crisis that first showed up in Jos during Obasanjo's era and it is being tackled. Crisis in the Northern states predate independence and has taken place through every dispensation. Sagamite:He has been there for 10months so it is only realistic that some projects will be ongoing. However, concluded ones were included I believe. somze: Sagamite:Aviation and Petroleum are ministries. Sagamite:Refineries went from performing below 30% to the figures I gave due to rehabilitation work done by GEJ. See links below • http://af.reuters.com/article/investingNews/idAFJOE7180E420110209 • http://allafrica.com/stories/201102110573.html • http://allafrica.com/stories/201102080396.html Sagamite:Stick to discussions. Avoid personal references or insults. Sagamite:It has been just 10months!!! |
Sagamite:Jonathan initiated integration programs for the ex-militants thus encouraging human capital development, including the granting of scholarships and establishment of skills acquisition centres. Some of them were sent out of the country to places like Malaysia for human capital development. This led to substantial increase in crude oil production from 1.7 million bpd (barrels per day) to the present 3.2million bpd. Yes in 10months!!!. Sagamite:Seriously dude, stick to valid inferences based on facts!!! Sagamite:Our Foreign Reserves at December 2009 stood at $42bn, now it stands about $36bn. Sagamite:Increase in power generation in 10months. Sagamite:Postponement of the election does not indict GEJ's govt one bit. GEJ has supported Jega in every legal way possible. If we were to take an overview of reactions on this subject, we would see that most people, though disappointed at Jega, supports the postponement as opposed to carrying on in the circumstance. Regarding the 60% of our population being under 18, please can I know where you got this from? Again, this is about Nigerian election so look at precedents in the country not that of Haiti. However, I am lost at your logic here also knowing Haitan elections were marred with violence and fraud allegations. "In a January 2011 report the Center for Economic and Policy Research concluded that 71.5% of the eligible Haitian population did not vote during the first round of the election on November 28th 2010.Furthermore, from the remaining votes 8.1% were considered to be invalid, leaving only 20.1% of the votes being cast on one of the candidates in the election" From Wiki Sagamite:- Corruption: New charges filed for Igbinedion, Ibori escapes the country, Siemens pays fine. - Electricity: Increase from about 2800MW to about 3800MW in 10months. - Security: Relative peace in Niger Delta - Infrastructure: Lagos-Ore-Benin road is currently undergoing major rehabilitation by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). Construction ongoing on East/West road. Trains are back. Five functional international airports. Total Data Coverage. Upgrade of Enugu Airport to International Status. Twenty-seven (27) earth dams have been sited in the six geo-political zones while a major irrigation project is ongoing in the northern part of the country, including the proposed supply and installation of water treatment plants capable of treating fresh water, brackish water and salt water in all the states of the South-East. Government has also taken over and completed the Edo State water supply project hitherto handled by the Petroleum Trust Fund. Proposed rehabilitation of over 150 dysfunctional hand pump boreholes in the rural parts of the South-West. Dredging of the Niger project, which was initiated by former President Umar Yar’adua was accelerated due to increased funding by President Goodluck Jonathan. The dredging is already 90% completed. Renovation and equipping of all Federal Medical Centres across the six geo-political zones. The upgrading of University Teaching Hospitals and specialized Tertiary Health Centres is also being done, as well as the training of medical and paramedical staff. Rehabilitation of Refineries. Refinery Output Capacity from below 30% output capacity are currently working 60-75% capacity depending on exact refinery. Ongoing upgrade of flow stations. Construction of NNPC mega stations around the country for increase supply of fuel and price stability. NNPC is also entering PPP with fuel station owners that are having difficulty in running their stations. That’s why you see some branded NNPC stations that are small. Like the one in Wuse 2 that was former Iluobe filling station. Ongoing rehabilitation of th atlas cove jetty that was blown up during Yaradua’s govt. - Education: Bring Back the Book Project which plans that by 2015, every Nigerian child would be able to read and write. 2011 Budget allocation of almost N1 trillion (N933 billion). Construction of six additional federal universities in the six geo-political zones in states that do not have a federal university. Spply of science and technical equipment to all the federal and state polytechnics across the country. Change of Curriculum for all Polytechnics including Entrepreneurial studies. - Jobs: These bills and plans should create jobs. Local Content Bill, Implementation of Power Roadmap, Gas Revolution Plan, PIB Bill, Planned refineries in lagos, Kogi and Bayelsa, State PPP Refinery projects in Abia and Akwa Ibom. The government does not need to create direct jobs. Jobs are created when the government creates the right environment for investors, privatizes previously government owned industries or creates policies that could lead to job creation. There is an allocation in 2011 budget (about N50bn) for Entrepreneurs and also part of the Education allocation allocation is to rehabilitate or create new techinical schools/programs that offers trains student in informal education and direct skill acquisition. |
GenBuhari:See the above. It fits with the exact situation I've been trying to explain to you. Buhari's Economic policy was a collosal failure. aisha2:History is so glaring, only does who live in denial think otherwise. Who is lying now? |
Buhari also retrenched 53,000 government workers in a bid to cut cost and reduced LGA from 1000 to 301. Buhari also set controlled prices on food items and rationing system where essential commodities like rice, sugar, salt and toiletries. [13] Buhari closed the country's land borders for a period to identify and expel illegal alien workers (about 700,000 were expelled) [13] and placed severe restrictions on imports and heavy penalties on smuggling and foreign exchange offenses. The austerity measures made it difficult for local industries to procure essential imported raw materials, leading many of them to close or to operate at greatly reduced capacity. Many workers were laid off, and government itself retrenched many workers to increase its "cost effectiveness." All of these actions were accompanied by high inflation. The price of basic food items rose, and life became increasingly difficult, even for the affluent. Agriculture – At independence in 1960, the proportion of the Gross Domestic Product accounted for by agriculture and petroleum stood at 67.0% and 0.6% respectively; by 1974 the proportions had been reversed to 23.4 and 45.5 per cent respectively. In 1984, (Buhari’s era) the shares of agriculture and petroleum went down further to 15.5% and 28.0% respectively. [4] External Debt – In just one year of Buhari’s reign, external debt increased by $3billion from $18.5 billion in December 1983 when he took over by coup to $21.2 billion by 1985. [4] Recovery Measure Failure: Buhari's political and economic aims were almost identical to those of the NPN which he overthrew. [11] Buhari's economic recovery measures included a currency change early in 1984 which involved prolonged border closure, wage freeze, cut-back on government spending, and other "tough medicine." This led to large-scale retrenchment of public servants; students' unrest in tertiary institutions against the re-introduction of fees and withdrawal of food subsidy; and increased unemployment. Unemployment was on the rise as the recession worsened [11]. In October, 1984, General Buhari himself declared that the government was "to all intents and purposes bankrupt." Lots of new names here . . . Hello ya'll |
Ibime:My brother, how you dey? I checked the thread yesterday and it seem like the last post was days back. I go soon holla. Telecoms (GSM) was introduced in 1991, went commercial in South Africa (1994), Zimbabwe & Mozambique (1997), Botswana & Rwanda (1998)Source. In Nigeria however it started in 2001. A Government does not necessarily have to create jobs. They just have to enable investments that create jobs. A PDP govt did that. Also the recapitalization of banks brought resulted in thousands of direct employment. |
Sagamite:Walking along your lines, If he has maintained it, and we have seen improvements (relative peace in the south, increase in barrels per day), then logically it means he should take some glory in this achievement. This is clearly logical as the opposite holds also. Also the inference that Niger Delta is calm because GEJ is Niger Deltan seem lose water as it is clear that threats (and action in some cases) still exist from the main agitators. Sagamite:Understand 2 things. GEJ's roadmap builds on what Obj started - IPP and Privatization/Un-bundling of PHCN. PIB Bill will also play a huge role since it covers PPP refineries. See these links Goodluck’s Power Roadmap • http://www.nigeriapowerreform.org/rokdownloads/Roadmap%20for%20Power%20Sector%20Reform%20Full%20Version.pdf More companies bid for electricity distribution companies • http://www.nigeriannewsservice.com/nns-news-archive/news-blocks/more-companies-bid-for-electricity-distribution-companies Power Situation under PDP 12years • http://thenewsafrica.com/2010/09/06/jonathans-power-roadmap/ Plan of implementation of distribution of Power Supply by Plants and States • http://www.goodluckjonathanfor2011.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=369:roadmap-targets-10-cities-for-stable-power-supply Increase in Power Generation • http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/electricity-output-now-4000mw-fg/ • http://allafrica.com/stories/201103071045.html Sagamite:Looking backwards we can see clear signs of improvement. In the appointments of Jega, RECs etc, funding and the belief/interest in the elections. More Nigerians actually believe that the coming elections would be free, fair and credible. We have 73m registered voters, freedom of press/media and a more independent INEC. It's looking bright and in about 4 weeks we can give clear judgments on this process. |
Case of kettle and pot. Your arguments lacked logical cohesiveness. I can't being to explain to you the difference between when a service is absent or insufficient. Take the job case - Telecommunication and Re-capitalization of the Banking Sector are introductions of PDP administration that created thousand of jobs. In telecoms there were thousands of direct employments in GSM and CDMA operators, hundreds if not thousands of SMEs started up as a result - from the recharge card sellers on the streets, to recharge card printers, to main distributors, to companies involved in Field Management Services, Diesel Supply etc. When you so effortlessly type that there are "no jobs" you should have considered how totally and logically false that was. |
nateevs:I don't know how you moved from the comments made by a supporter to making those comments GEJ's perspective on the matter. Beats me. How are you btw? |
Kobojunkie:You mean the whole nation is in perpetual darkness Get real!!!Kobojunkie:It's funny how you can call (b) when some non-pdp Governors claim their healthcare meet global standards now. Anyhow I have no arguments on this one. (c) Isn't logical or true. You can name a few bad roads but saying there are no good roads is a false generalization. I can name a number of roads built by PDP Govt. Kobojunkie:e. Like all your other assertions this is logically baseless. Thousands of Jobs were created by the PDP government. f. References please? |

GenBuhari:My brother all the information available to us from first hand experience, books written and web pages do not support any of this. Unemployment increased, industries closed down. Even in federal parastatals Buhari had to cut thousands of jobs, recession worsened, essential commodities became scarce. . . Long and short is the Economy became far worse. His Economic policies were a failure of epic proportions. The artificial reduction of inflation failed then and is impracticable now. Democratic markets are largely open markets built on competition. For example Glo came in and reduced call prices. Etisalat came in and further took down the prices. Its 20k per minute now. |
Kobojunkie:All this is either totally false or lacks any evidence whatsoever. Also how you equate what PDP spent in 12 years at federal level with Jonathan who has been at federal level for 4 years and as a leader for only 10months is beyond me. |

See this
Get real!!!
