Nateevs,

Ibime na trouble maker. I don leave this one go.

Sauron
SAF spent huge bucks before his first trophy.
Pallister was bought for £2.3m - a record in England.
Most players he brought in were of the £1m region and above. What are we saying?
If a team can constantly afford to throw away huge sums on players how can they be regarded as so poor compared to the leaders?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 1:51pm On Mar 10, 2009
Please just explain what you mean by "Utd were so poor"?

So poor as compared to what team? When all SAF's acquisitions in his first 4 years failed to perform?

How could a Team that was "so poor" then afford to buy Cantona, Bruce, Hughes, Roy Keane, Schmeichel etc. SAF bought players for prices above £1m 20 years ago and you consider the club "so poor"?

Damn, I wish I was "so poor"

AF bought players with the money he made for Man Utd.
United were so poor in the late 80s, they couldn't attract good players in Europe/UK.
Every good player wanted to play for Liverpool and Fergie had to rely on his academy to win the Premiership.
Now I've not seen a more biased, inaccurate and blatantly false statement in ALL of Nairaland.

Please Crown Sauron King.

It's funny no one talks about Ranieri, no one talks about Grant. No one will talk about Scolari.

People only talk about winners. Agents only lie about winners. Ibime will only bring out strange links about winners.

Who says Muntari has to be great in his first season? Was Ronaldo half a player in his first season? Who says JM has failed in the transfer market. Muntari is playing. Quaresma is on loan so Inter is actually saving money at the moment. Inter is in all competitions.

Ibime, Sauron, Nateevs and the rest of the anti-JM squad are champions at setting a higher standard for JM than any other manager.

It is hilarious that people actually think Inter can even win ManU. That says how highly JM is rated. I'm sure if JM succeeds at Inter (and tomorrow) we would have a theory on how Mancini helped him on.

ManU should have made Inter pay for defensive errors in the first half but they did not. Inter should have made ManU pay for the kindness in the 2nd half but they did not.

At the end of that Match all I can say is the only reason why people even bother with Inter is Jose. Also Drogba can learn a few tricks from Ibramovich.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 8:28pm On Feb 21, 2009
Failed to see the game . . .

A win at this stadium is very good. Also a good start for Guus.

I hear everyone generally had a good game and it also seems Anelka can't stop scoring. At this rate it would be difficult for me to continually criticize the guy. I can't argue about the goals.

I saw the goal highlight. Was just a beauty. The build up, quick feet by Lampard, then a nice pass and an exquisite finish by Anelka. Good to behold.

Nice start for Guus. Lets hope this continues.

Boo to a Guus
Merson backs Villa to secure massive win

Paul Merson Posted 19th February 2009

The jury's out on Guus Hiddink in my opinion. Is he really as great as everybody says he is?

His Holland team were poor in 1996. South Korea needed some lucky refereeing decisions to get through in 2002. Russia only got to Euro 2008 because England shot themselves in the foot against Croatia. He did nothing at Fenerbahce, nothing at Real Mardid, nothing at Valencia,

Don't get me wrong, you need a bit of luck in football, but I think Hiddink has been a very lucky manager. I don't know if he's the answer for Chelsea and he's got a very difficult job ahead of him, especially if he's doing the Russia job at the same time.

He's got to get all of the players on his side. There's no point getting rid of the players who fell out with Scolari because Chelsea need all hands on deck to make sure they finish in the top four - that is not a gimme at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, you need a bit of luck in football, but I think Hiddink has been a very lucky manager.

They need to look over their shoulders because Arsenal have some very kind fixtures coming up. And I agree with Sir Alex Ferguson when he says Chelsea are out of the title race, although to be honest everyone is out of the title race apart from Manchester United now. Nobody is making up a five-point gap on them with 13 games to go.

Confidence

Saturday is a massive, massive game. If Villa win they'll be full of confidence and I can see Arsenal beating Sunderland so they'll be right on Chelsea's tails. The problem for Hiddink will be that his team is not playing well or winning games.

Chelsea will also have half an eye on the Champions League next week. I don't think they'll rest players, but they'll be thinking they can't win the Premier League so that competition is their best chance of a trophy. I hope they don't take their eye off the league because if they lose on Saturday they could be struggling.

Villa might be a little bit more focused. They were absolutely slaughtered when they went to Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and they will see this as a vital game.

They haven't got the biggest squad. I don't think any of the players on the bench against CSKA Moscow would get into a Premier League side (apart from Brad Friedel and maybe Marlon Harewood). Thankfully they've been lucky with suspensions and injuries up until now and I suppose that's the luck you need to get in the top four.

Attack

I don't think a draw is much good to Aston Villa. I would say Chelsea will get better in the last 13 matches, but I'm not sure if Villa will. That's why they need to go out and win this game.

When you're winning, as they have been for a long time, players don't feel tried. If that points gap starts to get a bit tighter then the players will start to feel the pressure. So for me, Villa have got to go out and attack Chelsea.

The game could be won in the battle between Ashley Young and Jose Bosingwa. At Stamford Bridge, Young spent most of the game chasing Bosingwa in his own half and was almost playing like a full-back.

If that happens again it will take away half of Villa's attacking threat, so he has to make sure he's pushing the Chelsea defender back.

PAUL'S PREDICTION

Home win - I just don't think Chelsea were the team they were and if Villa go positive they can win this. Villa must not play for a point and if they have a go I can see them winning 2-1.

MERSON'S MAGIC MAN

Ashley Young - No question he's the key player - and how he doesn't get in the England squad is beyond me. I watched him against CSKA and his crossing at pace was superb. But he has to make sure he isn't chasing Bosingwa for 90 minutes.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 10:15pm On Feb 18, 2009
We gifted them the title. Scolari and Liverpool failed to increase the gap when ManU was away on the Fifa Club Championship. When ManU drew, everyone else drew. It was just crazy.

Then the Refs began dashing them penalties . . .

5 points clear. Liverpool and Arsenal are the only hope for a competitive season. They have to make ManU drop points.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 11:16am On Feb 18, 2009
Nateevs,
Thanks for that.
I just checked Goal.com and it somewhat correlated with your observations.

I'd like to see new things at Chelsea, new experiments, and possibly the use of younger players. Note however that it may take a while or a few games to produce results. Aston Villa is a huge test for a new Manager introduced at this part of the season so lets see how things go.

I'm with Hiddink 100%. I think he could be the man for Chelsea.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 4:50am On Feb 17, 2009
Ibime,
1. Some of your links, viz-a-viz the Juve fan forum failed to open. I can also google up a few sites that fails to agree with you.

2. Henry's view of Drogba's ability is personal, just like yours, mine and your imaginary seasoned observers. Messi and a host of fans think Ronaldo is not a great player, what are your views?

3. Granted, a few times Drogba's touch has let him down, there are also times where it has produced world class goals - Is this true or false?

In view of the above, we can establish that Drogba's imaginary constantly woeful first touch is just in your head, Nateevs' head and possibly in the heads of your 8 imaginary friends.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 2:18pm On Feb 16, 2009
Only 2 people on this planet think Drogba's touch is woeful - Just 2!!!

This same Drogba that scored countless goals with one deft touch and a sublime finish is being totally harangued and castigated through the anti-Drogba gospel of the duo - Nateevs and Ibime.

I accept that, thanks to Scolari and perhaps injuries, Drogba fell a little below expectation and has not been quite himself this season. This is totally understandable. Sometimes players go through rough patches but they're still great players. Take Shevshenko for example, he was useless at Chelsea; failing in first touch, positioning, movement and finishing as a result of the change in location. Thierry Henry too has or had issues at Barca. These do not make them terrible players with respect to any of those skills.

Why I argue with you guys concerning this issue is beyond me.

A few mistakes does not make Drogba's touches woeful. He's a great player and he delivers against ALL opposition whether great or small unlike some others.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 9:50am On Feb 16, 2009
Ibime:
What history? Drogba had no history before 2003! The difference between me and you is that I have been concerned about Drogba's drop in workrate for the last 2 years because I realise that Drogba is deficient in basic technique and his workrate is the only thing that makes him a great player. You, on the other hand choose to idolise him, not adhering to basic objective analysis.
It is obvious you failed to watch the game and probably a lot of other games. I'm sure Anelka never misses a pass or fails to trap adequately.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here by somze(f): 10:48pm On Feb 15, 2009
Ibime:
My friend sharrap! Anelka is not my cup of tea but the technique with which he finished off Watford is something Drogba could only dream about. I have said it before and Ill say it again, Drogba without stamina is as useless as John Carew.

Class (Anelka: 1997-2009) is permanent, whilst form (Drogba: 2006-2007) is temporary.

Drogba needs to go back to being a workhorse, because he is no use to me unless he runs like a slave.
1. Call me when he finishes against Pool, Arsenal, ManU or Juve.

2. You are a bit too quick to talk about history, perhaps you know little about Anelka's problematic history.

That was not entirely his fault. There was a different price for Chelsea and a different one for any other club. With the pressure to get results he had no choice but to buy the players.

Somze,

Can you provide explanations for Thiago, Kezman, Nuno Morais, Lassana Diarra, Scott parker, Sheva, Pizzaro, Ben haim, Sidwell, SWP, and others
#SWP - Was affected by his inflated price. He just failed to live up to expectation.

#Tiago - Was by no means a failure. He netted goals even against ManU at OT. He needed time to settle in but asked to leave as he did not want to compete for places.

#Kezman - 5m failure

#Nuno Morais - Was this guy signed by JM? I watched a match where he played well. I'm sure he left as a result of competition.

#Diarra - Was a good player but left due to competition for places, why don't we ask Arsene why he failed at Arsenal?

#Scott Parker - Injury prone. Was not bought by JM.

#Sheva - Was not bought by JM

#Pizarro - On a free, played a handful of games, scored and got injured b4 JM was sacked.

#BenHaim - On a free, Jm left early in his season.

#Sidwell - On a free.

Understand the players JM got on a free was as a result of his inability to buy the players he wanted.

What about players like Del Horno, Jarosik, Maniche, Huth, Boulahrouz and other big money waste pipes??

Young players Mikael Forsell and Carlton Cole. . . . . These players woulda gone places like Rooney n Ronaldo if Mourinho didn't join Chelsea.
He never gave these lads any chance to cut it at the top level.
Del horno - 8m was timid and unlucky
Maniche - loan
Jarosik - less than 5m
Huth - Was not a JM buy.
Boulahrouz - was Arnesen's buy and was timid.

Carlton Cole wanted to leave in order to get more playing chances. He was crap but seems to have improved remarkably this season. Forsell . . . need I get into an argument about this. The injury destroyed the guy. Tell me how well he has done since that injury.
