1. He is power hungry, was involved in 2 coups - The most important being truncating a civilian government, ran for Presidency 3ce 2. His economic recovery strategies were a colossal failure 3. He claims to be a man of integrity yet his colleagues in the military and PTF were corrupt thieves. He also says Abacha isn't corrupt. 4. His Human Rights record leaves much to be desired. 5. He suppressed freedom of speech, freedom of the press; outlawed Nigerian Medical Association and NANS 6. He supports Sharia, is lopsided towards the extreme Islamic Northern Agenda. 7. He has no plans, no implementation strategies 8. He incites his supporters to be violent. His supporters on nairaland cant type a line without resorting to abuses. First towards PDP, Jonathan then their supporters. Like everyone must support Him. 9. Did I say his Economy Recovery Strategies were a failure on epic proportions? The dude garnered at least $3bn of external debt in 1year. 10. He is old, has ruled before, has military background and bloody hell can have a heart attack as President leaving us with the man who's visions never seem to happen. |
Let me explain to you what happened before you veer off course. Buhari closed the border on import and imposed prices on goods. Say milk was 50k, he said it should be sold for 40k. There that's 20% reduction in inflation by Buhari for you. And what was the effect of that - companies going out of business; companies making losses; soldiers breaking into warehouses, causing mayhem, stealing product and arresting business owners for "hoarding" because they refuse to sell below cost price; scarcity of essential commodities; long queues for essential commodities etc. Does this sound like inflation reduction to you? You don't even want to look at the other part of the Economy because our external debts increased by $3bn, tens of thousands of civil servants were laid off, wage freeze, increased unemployment as a result of all these policies, school fees re-introduction, mass protest . . . and finally palace coup saves the day. Really, I don't think Buhari should ever mention the Economy in his campaigns. Better to stick with "PDP Haram"!!! |
So INEC cancels election and announces results? Doesn't add up people. Another opposition propaganda in the making. |
He's achievements in Power (Road Map and implementation), Transportation (Railways), Energy (Fuel availability and prices, Refineries, Proposed Refineries, PPP Refineries under construction) and Elections (support of Jega in every legal way possible. Like Seun said his press freedom has been the best so far. Way better than Buhari and Obasanjo. |
GenBuhari:Reducing inflation artificially by fixing prices on imported goods, wage freeze and prolonged border closing did not help the Economy. A buoyant Economy is easily noticed by unemployment ratio, purchasing power of citizen and perhaps the country's ability to service debts. During Buhari's era our external debt increased by $3bn in just one year, tens of thousands of civil servants lost their jobs, unemployment continued to rise, essential commodities became scarce, the country was bankrupt and began to barter our oil for good because we were not credit worthy. Buhari failed in the Economy and left it worse of than he met it in just a year. |
Errrr . . . huh? Your attempt to wipe away Buhari's huge Economic failure by such bland comment is comical. Seriously come on bro. Leave politics for now and be sincere with facts. My brother . . . Nigerian REAL External debt increased by about $3bn from $18.5bn when Shagari was ousted to $21.2bn in 1985. |
GenBuhari:This is what I want us to talk about. This is where I need exact facts. GenBuhari:As much as I would like to see some prove of this, you need to understand that inflation is primarily based on import/export ratio. How inflation reduction can be achieved artificially is to simply close your border to all imports. There was a prolong border closure during Buhari's era and that is probably why we may have had an artificial reduction in inflation rate. Now let us look at the Economy as a whole during his 1 year tenor. Our external debts increased by $3bn (yes that's three billion dollars in a year!!!). The percentage of GDP dependent on Agriculture reduced from 23.4% to 15.5%. Tens of thousands of Government workers (civil servants) were laid off, there was a wage freeze, re-introduction of fees and withdrawal of food subsidy; and increased unemployment. Unemployment was on the rise as the recession worsened . In October, 1984, General Buhari himself declared that the government was "to all intents and purposes bankrupt." Essential commodities even became scarce. |
9ijaMan:Both. The soundtrack was theirs and also the idea. |
9ijaMan:Totally false statement highlighted above. Unlike in the days of Obasanjo where outlets like AIT and several radio stations would have been closed. GEJ has left the media to say and print false and libelous information about him. Buhari however has a long list of journalists and people he arrested (Decree 2 and 4) concerning freedom of media and speech. Tai Solarin, Nduka Irabor and Tunde Thompson were imprisoned; Nigerian Medical Association and the National Association of Nigerian Students were outlawed; a N50,000 fine was imposed on The Guardian's publishers , Fela Ransome-Kuti was also imprisoned. |
damogul:You have not denied their position that their intellectual property was stolen. That is the issue here. Are these guys members of PDP? Please stick to the discussion and stop diverting our attention to an imaginative black hole. |
It is strange that some Buhari supporters are so blind. So since Buhari is your candidate, it now becomes ok to steal intellectual property and refuse to pay compensation or to offer an explanation to the owners of the property. This is not only wrong it is illegal. |
What records? Point to facts please. |
Shame on Sahara Reporters. Totally false information. This is an example of how low the opposition is going as they continue on their campaign of lies and calumny. |
GenBuhari:Here's your link. I have come across more but this came to mind more quickly - http://countrystudies.us/nigeria/30.htm Can I see a link that places this on Murtala's doorstep? |
Please send me thread's link |
GenBuhari:Well this makes sense but like in politics these deeds come back to hunt you. GenBuhari:Once again I have seen no prove of one of his wife being a christian and remaining one until date. GenBuhari:Right GenBuhari:Buhari made the application and would have joined if there wasn't a coup. GenBuhari:I hate to be the one to tell you this but you need to pick a running mate which is from the extreme opposite tribe (North or South) and of a different religion (Christianity or Islam). This is merely a political point to score with voters. |
aisha2:Your honesty and sincerity can be shocking sometimes. I hate to think of how it would have been if some other supporters (both from Buhari and GEJ camp) were moderators. Well done Aisha. @topic I fail to see the sense in this topic or any supporting fact. Lets me more matured people. |
My brother, I have just responded to this in the other thread. Lets stick to the PTF topic here which I think has been thrashed out. ![]() |
I think he doesn't do justice to the question. When politicians respond to questions in this manner I personally take it as they have something to hide His Defense 1. He says you cant base your manifesto on religious sentiments 2. He says his statement was misinterpreted. 3. He meant that Sokoto residents know their people and should vote for people that would work for them and that would hold their trust. My thoughts 1. He chaired the launching of the book on Sharia which was a divisive and controversial issue at the time (in fact it has always been controversial from the 2nd republic). As an Elder statesman who was thinking of running for President, it may have been wiser to avoid being in that gathering. 2. It is very likely that He made a statement referring to or inferring that people should vote based on tribe or religion muslims voting for muslims (Hence (3) in Defense section) 3. His other controversies surrounding the issue of ethnic or religious sentiments - Organization of the Islamic Conference application, PTF issue etc - makes this all the more believable 4. On his side though, the reporter (according to him) who wrote the first article on Thisday wasn't at the meeting and may possibly have been a victim of hearsay retransmission inaccuracy. |
I don't want to get into an unnecessary argument because it seems to me somehow we have similar views. This is what I think. 1. If you make a claim, it lies within your responsibility to validate the claim. You do not ask someone who wishes to know the validity to go get the proof himself. ![]() 2. However, (1) is unnecessary because I also said, you sounded like you were given a first hand account of what you claim and at that I do not need you to proof your claim. 3. The link that has this report sites the PTF Situation Reports (Vol. 2 Dec. 98) as its reference so it is by no means false (or so I would infer). However, until we see the details of the exact projects i.e the roads rehabilitated, the school hostels renovated, the book donations to school libraries etc we can not put the issue to rest. Personally I doubt claims of government project when they come from government sponsored reports except I see such details about the project. The other day Fashiola claimed to have built about 471 (or was it 641) roads in Lagos. Without details on the roads I wonder how he came across those figures in small Lagos. So you see the more we lack exact details the more we raise more unanswered questions. |
Did you check the date? It was in 2001. |
9ijaMan:One of the problems with your comment is we have no supporting facts to verify it. However, I can take them because it seems to be a first hand account. Also I think you miss the point here because the allegation wasn't that no projects were carried out in the South through out Buhari's 5 year reign but that it was heavily lopsided to the North. Nevertheless, the only way to put this beyond reasonable doubt is if we actually see the details of all the projects carried out by PTF. That however is unavailable to the public until the FOI bill is signed and implemented. |

Good one Mr President. |
aisha2:We also have the NNPC allegation before he stole power with a coup and don't forget the PTF one. The same man says Abacha isn't corrupt. http://www.dawodu.com/omokri1.htm http://news.biafranigeriaworld.com/archive/ngguardian/2002/nov/03/article12.html |
Which of his wives? What is her name? Do you have any supporting facts to verify? Was the marriage ceremony performed in the church or in the mosque? |
I notice Nairaland is pro-Buhari because it's moderators seem to be his supporters. Take a look at the landing page; it's all Buhari. Anyway back to topic. . . This is a good development, irrespective of who started it. Planning is one thing and implementing is another but both processes are required. Whether we support Buhari or Goodluck we should be sincere enough to point out when Goodluck is getting it right. In this case he clearly is. |
We're playing as if we have won already. Not good. |
Na wa o |
BlueDiva:Yes we need Torres, both Kalou and Anelka can leave. Aguero may have been the better buy but we can't take chances with an Argentine who would be new to the EPL. |
I hear his new single is out, titled - Another way to dive. |
