The simple meaning of that verse is that long exposure to the sun had darkened his complexion which is a normal thing.. in fact some people actually sun tan their skin by staying under the sun for a long period

U probably didn't read the line that said it was a prophecy about Africans. Solomon wasn't black but the prophecy helps us to know why Africans are dark in complexion. Bible is a book of prophecies and was written in such a way that we cant undetstand it except by revelation.

It's not just about farming.
