HedwigesMaduro:Interesting. I have also heard many people say this. |
Covidodo:Perfectly put. If you even check well in most cases, the few muslim northern men you thought were Hausa' fulani could have been from the minority tribes in the north, but being muslims makes them somehow difficult to differentiate from the Hausa' fulani Kanuri. |
NYSC FOR ONLY MIDDLEBELT/SOUTHERN NIGERIANS ?? A few months ago, we all received the sad shocking news of five youth corps members who perished on their way to Katsina state from Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. Four of them were natives of Akwa Ibom while the fifth was from Imo state. Some few years ago, I was posted to serve in Kebbi state and I was residing in Rivers State at that time. I had to spend two days on the road to reach Kebbi state. On my way, I met with and travelled with many dozens of Southern/Middlebelt Nigerians who were navigating their ways to different parts of the Core-northern region. Some to Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Yobe, Kano, Jigawa e.t.c. Most of them have never gone beyond Abuja in their entire lives. Luckily for me, I had friends from Kebbi south, and as an Indigene of Plateau state, I could understand Hausa' language, so I got the perfect description to easily navigate my way to the camp at the Fulani dominated town of Dakingari. Many Southern Nigerians and some people from Benue- Kogi who have no knowledge of Hausa' or any friends from Kebbi state to make inquiries from had to spend 3-4 days just to get to the camp because they have no clue of the region or language and hence some of them were misdirected. On their arrival, some of them were already sick, others were shabby looking and seriously fatigued. Now, the idea of NYSC is not such a bad thing in spite of the terrible traveling experience corps members encounter sometimes. This is because NYSC was proposed for greater National integration. The only problem I have with this scheme is that the corps members of Core-northern (Hausa' fulani Kanuri) origin do not pass through the same experience and rigours that the Middlebelt and Southern Nigerians go through. I have lived in different cities and towns of Southern Nigeria for so many years and for once, I have never come across any Hausa' fulani or Kanuri muslim youth corps member. Most corps members serving in Southern Nigeria are still Southerners and Middlebelters. Most of my family members, relatives and friends from Plateau state were posted to serve in the South-east and South-South. I am the only one who was posted to the Core-north to serve. While in the Kebbi state camp, I also noticed that 90% of the corps members there were people from the South and Middlebelt. This was also the same scenario based on the feedback I got from friends who went to other core-northern states for youth service. The whole thing did not just add up. Now here was what shocked me the most while I was at the Kebbi camp. There were announcements for those who wished to redeploy. I went to the queue for redeployment and to my greatest surprise, I saw Core-northerners too on the queue. They wanted to redeploy to Kano, Kaduna, Katsina and the most shocking of all, Sokoto state! I couldn't fathom how someone redeploys from Kebbi to Sokoto state. It is just like redeploying from Anambra to Imo or from Ondo to Ekiti. Kebbi and Sokoto are neighbouring states for God's sake and the distance from the camp to Sokoto city was about two hours. Simply put, these people wanted to do their youth service in their streets or in their father's compound. Most Southerners do not even think of redeployment if they are posted to states within the South or their geo-political zones. This is in spite of the fact that the journey between some southern states like Lagos to Cross river can take an entire day. Many Southerners stayed back in Kebbi without redeployment and some did not even go back home on a visit till after the entire service year. Some still stayed back in Kebbi even after service and continued contributing immensely to the state. This is something that is almost impossible to imagine among the Core-northerners (Hausa' fulani and Kanuri muslims). We regularly hear of corps members all over the country who are awarded for the immense community development projects they embark on. I have hardly come across a typical Core-northern name like ABDULLAHI YUSUF or FATIMA MUSTAPHA attached to such projects. It is either that person is from the South or the Middlebelt part of the country. It seems almost impossible or unimaginable in Nigeria that a Fulani or Kanuri lady from Jigawa state will graduate from the University and be posted to Arochukwu town in Abia state, Ikirun town in Osun state, Oghara town in Delta state or Ogbadibo town in Benue state where she will reside for One whole year, immerse herself with the natives and the Yoruba, Igbo, Urhobo, Idoma culture, at the same time executing developmental projects in these communities. However, go to Daura in Katsina state which is a stone throw from Niger republic, you will find Southerners and Middlebelters there doing exactly as described above. My own uncle from Plateau state was awarded among the best ten corps members by the Enugu state government in 2007 due to the immense developmental projects he carried out while serving in a village in Enugu state. So, the question now is WHO IS FOOLING WHO in this country of ours? Now, some may say the Core-northerners are not well represented in the NYSC scheme due to their lower level of tertiary education. This is somewhat true. However, among the over 1 million Nigerians who graduate from tertiary institutions every year, at least 10% (over 100,000) of them are Core-northerners. There are hundreds of thousands of Core northern students across tertiary institutions in the core-north. So, it would still not be a reason good enough. These are some of the reasons why I, who was formerly a very patriotic Nigerian completely lost hope and faith in this terrible country called Nigeria. This is because I clearly discovered that the existence of Nigeria is based on deception, fraud, lies, manipulation and injustice. In 2011, dozens of youth corps members were killed across Core-northern states by pro-Buhari mobs when Buhari lost the elections. This was just because they are not of Hausa' fulani extraction and as young patriotic Nigerians they decided to obey and serve their father land in any part of the country. This case is only but a few among many other terrible experiences Southern and Middlebelt youths have faced while serving in Core-northern states. If Gbenga, Chioma and Esosa can travel as far as Jibia, Daura or Gashua at the boundary with Niger republic in the semi desert climate for days just to serve a fraudulent Nigeria. Why dont we ever see Zubairu and Zainab using canoes and speed boats to cross the rivers and creeks in order to serve Nigeria in Ilaje, Ogbia or Opobo in Southern Nigeria ?? Yet we will always see names like Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi talking about keeping a UNITED NIGERIA on national television. efficiencie:You are very correct about your definition of compatibility, unfortunately this definition does not include the people of an Islamic civilization. Yorubas, Igbos, Niger deltans and Middlebelt people for example, we are quite different in customs, mentality, orientation, ways of life e..t.c, but in spite of our differences, we still tolerate each other. For example, Yorubas (most of whom were muslims) came to Jos at the same time the Hausa' fulanis came to Jos, but have you ever heard of any clashes between Middlebelt people and the Yorubas? The population of Igbos outnumber Yorubas in many parts of Lagos, but hardly do we hear of escalation of conflicts between the 2 groups. This is what you can call compatibility. The Hausa' fulanis however due to the kind of Islam they practice have become easy tools for manipulation by jihad sponsors. Whose fault is that? Take a good look at Mozambique, a country where muslims barely make up 10% of the population, see how they have destroyed the Northern part of the country. When someone always have problems with other people and is an easy victim of manipulation, such a person needs to first check himself and work on himself before coming into contact with others. We cannot be forced to carry the cross of Hausa' fulani masses and their gullibility to religious manipulations. It is their problem. They should solve it by themselves. And until they do that, there is absolutely no way anyone can be compatible with them. Did you hear of the CAN chairman of Sumaila LGA that was killed in Kano? The man is an Indigene of Musawa LGA in Katsina state. He is a real Hausa' Indigenous Maguzawa Christian, yet his own people snuffed his life like it was nothing, just because of religious extremism. Are these the kind of people that need big grammars on COMPATIBILITY? Are they worth it? It is just like talking of compatibility with Afghanistan or Somalia. How does that even work? |
efficiencie:Nope, We are not compatible, especially with the Core northern Hausa' fulani muslims. Do you know how many thousands of lives has been lost to Yoruba vs Hausa' fulani clashes since the last 20 years? Do you want me to give you a timeline? That of Middlebelt people against Hausa' fulani settlers cannot even be calculated. The same Hausa' fulanis, how well do they flow with Igbo people? When a group of people living together are always having regional frictions, it is a clear indication that they cannot be together. Yes, the elite class will never fight themselves, but they are heavily involved in sponsoring the masses who do the fighting. Is there any difference between the one who sponsors a conflict and the one who executes it? Jews, Arabs, Hindus, Whites, Chinese, Buddhists and Black Africans all do business with each other and even intermarry each other at the elite level. Does that mean that they are all compatible or can be able to share one country in equal proportions and live in peace?? |
BafanaBafana:Availability of land is not the problem. Hausa' fulanis are dragging land and always having conflicts with many Middlebelt people. Why is this so when they have so much land in the core-north? Secondly, are you aware that Cross river state which is a stone throw from Igbo land is the 2nd biggest state in Southern Nigeria (after Oyo state) and it is like 80% forested? If it was just a question of availability of land, Igbos would have bought up all the lands in Cross river state and settled there, at least it would still be very much close to home. So it is not entirely a question of land. We Middlebelt people have more lands than Hausa' fulanis but we still buy lands in Southern Nigeria and build our houses there. Why are the Hausa' fulanis not doing that. Can u care to explain? Your accusation of Plateau or Middlebelt Christians having victim mentality is your own headache, not ours. Yes we may speak Hausa' language. India and Pakistan speaks the same language, but go and learn about the bloody partition history between them because the Muslims could never accept to live under a Hindu majority country. Religion has proven to be stronger than language so many times, especially when ISLAM is involved. |
efficiencie:Yes you are correct. But other than secession, what on earth could be the possible solution to the current problems we are facing as a nation? Believe you me, many people who are scared of the division of this country are those who are currently benefitting from the dysfunctional system. These kind of people do not care about the other lives being wasted unless it comes to their doorsteps. That is extreme selfishness. Nigeria is clearly a union of incompatible bedfellows. It's not really about Abuja controlling everything. Even if Abuja was controlling everything and we were very compatible. There wouldn't have been so much killings, destruction and grievances. |
horsepower102:You have a strong point. This is a very cowardly character. Only cowards are afraid of taking their destinies into their own hands. |
richmond500:Go to Facebook, search for the same article and page, my identity is there. |
IGBOS, THE TRUE BELIEVERS OF ONE NIGERIA. As someone from Central Nigeria commonly known as the MIDDLEBELT, I really cannot understand how I still find a significant number of Middlebelters, Yorubas and even Niger-deltan ethnic nationalities speaking against the agitation of the Igbos to secede from Nigeria. Although, over time, I have come to understand that this character comes from the 'fear of the unknown'. Most of us are afraid of what will come with and after the division of Nigeria. So we think that no matter how terrible and unworkable Nigeria is, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW IS BETTER THAN THE ANGEL YOU DON'T KNOW. However, this is a very false and terrible narrative mostly adopted by cowardly people. In the Nigeria of today, there are many unscrupulous people who preach PEACE and a ONE NIGERIA, but this does not reflect in their actions. Unfortunately, these people succeed in fooling and deceiving lots of gullible Middlebelters and Southerners with their empty words. Nobody actually believes in a ONE NIGERIA more than the Igbos. You can take that to the bank. I am from Gindiri, a small town of about 30,000 residents in Mangu LGA of Plateau state. There are Igbos who have not just been living in Gindiri town, but have been living in the surrounding interior villages for ages. Now, this is not something that will come as a surprise to most of us. However, the point I want to emphasize here is that, most of these Igbos actually own the houses and lands that they stay in my hometown. They paid for these lands and built their houses with their hard earned money, thereby contributing immensely to the development of the community and the real estate value. This is something Igbos are known for all over Nigeria. Go to the core north, you see Igbos with landed properties not just in the big cities like Kano, Katsina or Sokoto, but even in the smaller towns as far as areas close to the border with Niger republic like Jibia, Daura, Gumel, Nguru, Gashua, Hadejia e.t.c. You can hardly see other Southern Nigerians or even Middlebelt people in some of these extreme Core-northern towns, not to even think of us owning houses or properties in these towns. Now, many of us may say, "But the Igbos are business people, they make huge profits from all these places they settle, so what is so special in them owning properties in those places?". Well, Core-northerners (Hausas, Fulanis and Kanuris) are also very good traders and business people. They control the Bureau de change In Nigeria, they control the transportation and sales of foodstuffs and livestock all over Nigeria, they have a strong influence in the importation and sales of textiles, jewelleries, wristwatches, amongst many other things. Today, the core northerners are found in almost all the nook and crannies of Southern Nigeria, raking in Billions of Naira on a daily basis through these avenues. However, in spite of this, it is almost like an abomination for them to secure landed properties in Southern Nigeria. Most Core-northern traders and hustlers residing in Southern Nigeria usually live in congested slums, shanties, temporary structures and shabby looking almost dillapidated rented houses. These places are usually called HAUSA QUARTERS. Now, I understand that a lot of the Core-northerners who come to the south are terribly poverty stricken and most of these ones are wheelbarrow pushers, Metal scrap gatherers, Sugarcane hawkers, labourers e.t.c. These ones may not be able to afford a decent appartment. However, some are very rich, like the ones who control the Bureau de change and the ones who own the trailers of foodstuffs and livestocks offloading daily in every Southern Nigerian city/town. The issue is that, these ones still do not acquire landed properties and build high quality houses befitting of their financial status. This is in spite of the fact that some of them have lived in Southern Nigeria for generations. I have lived much of my life in Southern Nigeria and travelled across almost all the states in Southern Nigeria. I find lots of my Middlebelt people who work in Southern Nigeria and have made wealth through the Federal civil service. A good number of us buy and acquire landed properties in Southern Nigeria. My own family members own landed properties in different states of Southern Nigeria. However, I have hardly come across a Hausa' fulani or Kanuri Muslim who is a senior/rich civil servant acquiring lands to build his mansion in Port Harcourt, Calabar, Benin, Lagos, Onitsha, Owerri, Warri, Ibadan or Oshogbo. It is very rare! The population of Core-northerners in Lagos outnumbers the population of Igbos in Kano by a wide margin, but go to Sabon gari in Kano and see the mansions and estates owned and dominated by Igbos there. Land and rent in Sabongari is almost as expensive as Lekki because of the Igbos. Meanwhile, where is that beautiful estate in Lagos which is dominated by mansions owned by Core-northern muslims?? In spite of the thousands of core northern millionaires residing in Lagos? Those millionaire Alhajis who are the top officials of the Nigerian Immigration, Customs, Ports authority, Police, Military, Civil defense, e.t.c serving in Lagos? Where are their estates and mansions in Lagos? The millionaire Bureau de change operators and transporters of foodstuffs/livestock who own multiple trailer loads of products offloading in Southern cities, where are their estates and mansions in Southern Nigeria?? Fulani Herdsmen have refused to acquire lands in Nigeria to ranch their cattles. They roam around freely causing havoc, living in people's ancestral lands and forests rent-free and completely tax-free, yet they are not the major consumers of their cattle, rather we are. Now, If the Core northerners want the rest of us to so much believe that they stand for ONE NIGERIA, why don't they invest in real estate in Southern Nigeria? How do you live in a land for decades, make millions of Naira in profit/salary from that land and then you simply go back to Sokoto, Kano or Katsina with your prayer mat/kettle and a Ghana-must-go? Then you come out in public to preach ONE NIGERIA?? During election times, Southerners and Middlebelters residing in the Core-north remain in their respective locations to cast their votes, meanwhile in the South, trailers are used to evacuate Core-northerners back to their respective states to vote. Why does this happen? These are some of the reasons why I as a Middlebelter whole-heartedly support the Igbos in their quest for self-determination. I also support the Oduduwa republic agitators and definitely give all my support to a proposed KWARARAFA REPUBLIC for Middlebelt people. Self determination is a fundamental right and not a criminal offence. The Igbos have clearly come to an understanding that they have been giving so much more to Nigeria, while they get very little to nothing in return. That is a clear case of a parasitic relationship. The current existence of Nigeria is nothing but a parasitic and toxic relationship and that is why the country is currently collapsing. The parasites have started to outgrow the hosts in size. The Igbos immensely contribute to the development of wherever they migrate to by acquiring landed properties and paying their taxes as law-abiding citizens. They are the true believers of a UNITED NIGERIA based on their actions!! I refuse to be among those gullible, confused and brainwashed Middlebelt people or Southern Nigerians who will still fall for the message of a deceptive ONE NIGERIA built on lies and fraud. You cannot preach ONE NIGERIA to me by your mouth only, it has to show in your actions.
