…as she writes them Fans of Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Tuesday, took on Nigerian bloggers, calling them home breakers as well as warning them to leave their screen idol alone. The fans’ reaction came after Uche Jombo called out the bloggers via Instagram post to keep her family affair away from the media. Recall that news went viral recently on the Internet that the actress and her husband, Kenny Rodriguez are now separated. Angered by this unfounded rumour, the actress took to her Instagram page to vent her anger, calling out the bloggers to stay away from her marriage. She wrote, “Dear Nigerian Bloggers, If you are going make up stories about my life or marriage try facts. Normally I will look at this stupid trending story on me today and look the other way but not Today!!! Enough!!!!! I find your need to create mirage tales of rancour where there are none in chase of a story/news outrageous. There’s no story here except a woman trying to balance her family life and work in 2 countries. Please leave my family out of your manufactured, made up stories. There are more important stories, real issues in world people are worried about than little old me.” “My only social media cover-up is pretending You “Zero journalistic ethics” people didn’t hurt me by your unfounded and non-factual stories,” she wrote. Immediately, Uche’s fans started reacting to her post, as they blasted the bloggers, calling them busy body people. One of the posts by badgalshuga read, “Bloggers or whatever there are, they are trying to survive which I understand, but slandering and castigating people have always being their motives. They cook up lies and share the same to the public and then some illiterate people will grab their stupid posts and start commenting bullshit.” luchitricia10 wrote, “Until people understand what marriage is all about, they won’t talk about other people’s marriages like that, all this single bloggers we are waiting for you to taste marriage then we can reply you.” Also, @solasunzI wrote, ‘People need to stop lies all in the bid to make money.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/marriage-crash-uche-jombos-fans-take-bloggers/ |

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, made the appeal in a statement in Enugu. Amaraizu said that the exercise, which would last for a week, was meant to improve the weapon handling proficiency of the new intakes. He noted that the exercise would be carried out at the Superior Police Officers Mess within the ever busy Agbani Road in Enugu. “The command wishes to inform the public especially those living in the command’s shooting range located behind Superior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, that there will be weapon handling and shooting range exercise for police recruits of Police College, Oji-River. “The exercise kicks-off from Sept. 11 and will end on Sept. 16. “Members of the public are advised not to panic or entertain fear during the exercise as it is a routine training exercise carried out by the police to enhance professionalism in weapon handling,’’ he said. SUNDAY SERMON: THE TRUTH ABOUT TITHING I came across this piece on a Whatsapp page and it so represented my views on tithing that I could have written it myself. Please enjoy the read! The Trial of Pastor Jones (Author unknown) Judge: Mr. Jones you have been charged with multiple counts of extortion. Your crime spree covers 20 years and thousands of victims. You have defrauded people out of their money with fear and manipulation, telling them they had to tithe 10% of their income as per the LAW to your Regd. organization (called Church) and that God would bless them if they did. You also told them that if they didn't tithe God would curse them. How do you plead? Mr. Jones: I plead not guilty your Honor, I have done nothing wrong. I have only preached what the Bible says. In the Bible Abraham tithed to Melchizedek and God blessed him for his faithful giving. The Bible even says he was rich in silver and gold. Judge: Is it not true, Mr. Jones, that in Genesis Chapter 13 verse 2 the Bible says Abraham was rich with livestock, silver and gold? Mr. Jones: Yes, you are exactly right, that's what I just told you. Judge: Ok, we read about Abraham being a rich man in chapter 13 but it is not until Genesis chapter 14 that we read about Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek. So Abraham was already a rich man before he tithed to Melchizedek, wasn't he? Mr. Jones: Yes, I suppose you are right. Judge: So his riches were not the result of his tithe to Melchizedek? Mr. Jones: No. Judge: Mr. Jones, you also say God blessed him for his faithful giving. How many times is it recorded that Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek? Mr. Jones: Well, just once. Judge: So the Bible never said that he gave week after week? Mr. Jones: No it does not. Judge: Where did Abraham get the things that he gave to Melchizedek? Mr. Jones: Well the Bible says it was from the plunders of war? Judge: So you are telling me that he gave from the plunders of war? Mr. Jones: Yes that's what the Bible says. Judge: So he basically took things that were not really his in the first place and gave them as the tithe? Mr. Jones: That is what the scripture seems to indicate. Judge: Is it recorded that he ever took anything from his own possessions and tithed them to Melchizedek or anyone else? Mr. Jones: I guess not Judge: You guess not, you are a teacher and you are only guessing, is it or is it not written that he ever gave any of his own possessions as a tithe to anyone? Mr. Jones: No it is not written anywhere that I have seen. Judge: Is it recorded as to what exactly Abraham did give Melchizedek? Mr. Jones: I believe it says plunder? Judge: So plunder could be any number of things? Mr. Jones: Yes, I suppose Judge: It could have been food, cattle, sheep, the people's possessions or any number of things. It does not say it was all money correct? Mr. Jones: Yes you are correct, it does not say just money Judge: As a matter of fact money is never mentioned in that account at all is that correct Mr. Jones? Mr. Jones: Yes your Honor, money is never mentioned just goods and food and people. Judge: So there is no way you can say with any certainty that Abraham in fact gave Melchizedek any money at all? Mr. Jones: That is right. Judge: I only have one last question for you Mr. Jones, did God command Abraham to give this plunder tithe to Melchizedek? Mr. Jones: No, it appears that he did this voluntarily. Judge: So are you trying to tell me that because of this voluntary, one time gift by Abraham, that may not have even consisted of money, all Christians everywhere are obligated to bring 10% of their weekly paycheck to a local Regd.Organization-church? Considering all the evidence I would say you are beyond any shadow of a doubt guilty of deliberately trying to make the scriptures says things they have not said for financial gain. Mr. Jones: Ok your Honor, I can see how foolish I was to try and use the story of Melchizedeck to try and get the people to tithe money. But there are many other verses that will support my belief on tithing. Jacob said he would give God 10% of everything. I think we should follow his example. Judge: Let's see what Jacob said. Please read the verse you are talking about for me Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones: In Genesis chapter 28 starting at verse 20 it says. Jacob vowed a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on, so that I come again to my father's house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God, then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God's house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you." Judge: You said we should follow Jacobs example, is that right Mr. Jones? Mr. Jones: Yes that is right, he vowed to give a tenth and we should too. Judge: Let me point out one thing for you Mr. Jones, Jacob said he would Give God a tenth, ONLY if He blessed him first. So as you said previously, we should follow Jacob's example and tell God that we will only give him a tenth if he blesses us first. Is that right? Mr. Jones: That is not what I meant. Judge: What did you mean then? Mr. Jones: That we should give God a tenth also. Judge: There you go again, trying to make the scripture say what you want it to say for your benefit. I would also like you to tell me the scriptures that say that Jacob kept his vow with God. I would also like to know where he gave the tenth to because there was no temple or levites to give it to at that time. Mr. Jones: I can not think of any scriptures that say where or if he ever tithed after his vow. Judge: It seems fairly obvious to me that Jacob made a voluntary and conditional vow to God. This in no way can be used as a reason to demand others to bring their income to you or any other place. Mr. Jones: I do have a few more scriptures that I believe will show that we are supposed to tithe. Judge: You have not said anything yet to convince me one little bit that people are obligated to tithe money to the local organizational institutions -churches and that you were justified in what you were doing. You have taken scripture and misapplied it to your beliefs and for your gain. But in order to be fair to you I will allow you to present more evidence. Mr. Jones: In the book of Malachi chapter 3 starting at verse 8 it says, will a man rob God? yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, In what have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the store-house, that there may be food in my house, and prove me now with this, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. So you see your Honor, we are commanded to bring the tithes into the storehouse or God will curse us. Judge: Answer me this Mr Jones, Who was God Speaking to here? Mr Jones: To the People of Israel Judge: Can you please read Malachi 2: 1 Please Mr Jones Mr Jones: Now This command is for you O PRIEST !! Judge: Did God stop talking to the Priest in Chap. 3, Mr Jones? Mr Jones: No your Honor! Judge: Answer me this Mr. Jones, were you aware that God never required anyone to tithe money? Mr. Jones: No I didn't know that. Judge: The tithe spoken of here was always edible products never money. Mr. Jones: Well your Honor that is because they didn't have money at the time so God had them tithe food instead. Judge: Not true, money is first mentioned in Genesis and Malachi was written hundreds of years later. God had them bring food in so that the levites, the fatherless and widows may eat and be satisfied. The tithe was used mainly to take care of people. Also notice it says in the verse you quoted, that there may be food in my house. The food was the tithe. How do you completely overlook the word food in those verses? Mr. Jones: I don't know Judge: I also want you to know that these verses speak to nation under the Old Testament law. As you may or may not know Jesus fulfilled the law, it is no longer binding. Once again you have tried to completely take a scripture out of context and apply it to others for your benefit. Can you give me a single scripture where God changed the tithe from food to money? Mr. Jones: I do not know of any. Judge: So if God never changed it from food to money who did? Mr. Jones: Man must have. Judge: So far all you have done Mr. Jones, is take Old Testament scriptures out of context and try to apply it to believers under the New Covenant. Is this all the proof you have? Mr. Jones: I do have a New Testament scripture that will show that Jesus told us to tithe. Judge: Ok let me hear it. Mr. Jones: Jesus said in Matthew 23:23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone. See Jesus said we should be tithing. Judge: Let me ask you a question, who was Jesus talking to? Mr. Jones: The scripture says the Scribes and Pharisees. Judge: Are you a scribe or Pharisee? Mr. Jones: Of course not. Judge: Jesus also said in that passage, you have left undone the weightier matters of the law. Are we under the law Mr. Jones? Mr. Jones: No. Judge: Why not? Mr. Jones: Because Jesus fulfilled it. Judge: When did Jesus fulfill the law? Mr. Jones: When He was crucified. Judge: So the law was still in effect until Jesus death? Mr. Jones: That is correct. Judge: I think you know where I am going with this don't you? Mr. Jones: Yes your Honor. Since Jesus had not yet been crucified and the law was still binding the Pharisees were required to tithe because it was part of the law. Once the law ended, tithing ended also. Judge: I want you to take a look at that verse again. Also tell me, what were they tithing? Mr. Jones: The scripture says it was mint, dill and cumin. Judge: Is money mentioned? Mr. Jones: No it was not. Judge: Once again it was edible products that they were tithing, not money. Do you have anything else you would like to say? Mr. Jones: If people only tithed edible products like the scripture says, then how would the church survive? We have our mortgage payment, utility bills, staff salary and a host of other things that we have to pay each week. We depend on the money from the people. Judge: By "church" you mean your organization isn't it Mr Jones ? -The need does not justify the means. In other words, just because you have all these debts does not give you the right to twist and manipulate scripture and cause people to give under fear of being cursed by God to meet your needs. Does It Mr Jones? In closing, let me recap a few things for you Mr. Jones. -The tithe was never money; -The tithe was an Old Testament law, which is no longer binding. When it was binding the tithe was used to take care of people, not buildings. - We are under a new covenant now. Paul instructs the Corinthian believers how they are to give. He says in second Corinthians chapter 9 verse 7, Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. So each believer is supposed to give as he or she has determined in his or her heart. If they determine to Give 10% well and good, If they keep aside some every week to meet this more better. If you are trying to make people give under the threat of being cursed or any other reason even blessing, you are wrong. Someone can not give cheerfully if they are being forced to give. If 'your church can not survive on freewill offerings maybe God is not part of your church at all. Mr Jones, do you intentionally put your people under a Curse or a Bondage? Mr Jones: Of Course not !! Judge: Can you Read in context Gal 3:10-11: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them .... AND Gal 5:1-4 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.... Mr. Jones: I never realized all these things, I have always been taught that we had to tithe money to the local church and that is what I have always taught. I can see now that I was completely wrong. I did not study the scripture for myself, I only took mans word for it. Yes ' am guilty. I will not teach this error anymore. Sentencing....... By Ike Uchechukwu CALABAR— There was pandemonium, yesterday, at 3, Okon Edak Street, off Atamunu, Calabar, premises of a church, when the fresh heart of a one-year-old girl, Miss Success Ime, was discovered in the church. Subsequently, the General Overseer of the Ministry, a Reverend, was arrested for allegedly using the girl for ritual. Vanguard gathered that other fetish items, including goat heads, dead chicken, male and female effigies, wooden boat, crafted camel among others, were uncovered by men of Uwanse Police Division. The grandmother of the victim, Mrs Arit Ime, told Vanguard that at about 3a.m. yesterday, they heard banging on their door, following which two masked men entered their room at 8, Okon Edak Street. Mrs Ime said: “We were sleeping and at about 3a.m. when two men, who were fully masked, entered and started ransacking the house. They told us to lie face down or we will be shot. “Initially, we thought they were robbers not knowing that they came for my little girl, Success, who was just one year and six months old. “They took off with her, after which we raised the alarm. In the process, some of our neighbours made phone calls to the Police and one of them was apprehended. “But as we speak, little Success is nowhere to be found. Part of the items we were told that was discovered included a fresh heart of a little child and we have no doubt that it is hers.” Police confirms incident A Police source told Vanguard that they got a distress call from the area and swung into action and that while looking for Success’ assailants, some people in mask were arrested. The source said: “Some persons have been arrested including one Okon, who said he was sent by the Reverend to kidnap the girl. “Six other persons were arrested alongside the General Overseer of the church with various fetish items, including a human heart in a bag with a photograph of a lady, effigies of both male and female, wooden canoe, goat head exhumed from the altar as well as other fetish items.” When contacted the Police spokesman, Irene Ugbo, told Vanguard that that the matter was now a murder case and that seven persons, including the General Overseer of the church have been arrested. By Tare Youdeowei FOR the contemporary tech-smart population, a laptop is often regarded as more than just a work tool. Many rely on the laptop for many purposes spanning social, entertainment, educational and business-related needs. This makes it imperative for the right decision to be made when shopping for a new device or a replacement unit for your old laptop. Though some things may weigh more than others depending on the purpose for which you are getting your laptop, here are six basic things to look out for when getting you next laptop. Size : Gone are the days when laptops weighed a tonne and took up so much space. On-going advancements in the sphere of computer manufacturing has seen a lot of refinements in laptop sizes. For students and busy executives, portability is a core requirement. The easier it is to fit your laptop PC into a small bag, the better. Therefore, a laptop with a screen size between 12.5 – 14 inches and weighing between 1 – 1.5kg fits the bill. When shopping for such a portable device, it is often best to go for a notebook. A notebook is a personal computer that foregoes some functionality to remain light-weight and small. Notebook computers are sleek, typically weigh less than five pounds and are small enough to fit easily into your briefcase or a back-pack. An Ultrabook also falls into this category as they are portable and light-weight. Processor Speed : Most computer applications require that the computer system meets minimum requirements in order for the installation to run. One of those requirements is processor speed. Processor speed measures (in megahertz or gigahertz; MHz or GHz) the number of instructions per second the computer executes. Intel’s Core-based processors including Core i3, Corei5 and Core i7 are usually the best bet for computing power as these processors deliver top performance. Screen quality and Resolution : Considering the length of time the average user spends working on a laptop, screen quality is a factor worth taking into cognizance when buying a laptop. The harsh glare from grainy laptop screens may pre-dispose users to side-effects as constant staring at the screen may result in redness, itching and blurring of the eyes, or headaches and migraines, in extreme cases. Touch-screen laptops, many of which are glossy, may also not be a good choice as these throw back a lot of reflections, thereby putting the eyes under considerable strain.Closely related to this, you must consider the resolution of the laptop before making the buying decision. If you fall into the class of heavy users who work on their laptop for upwards of eight hours in a day, it is more advisable to go for a High Definition (HD) screen with resolution of 1600 x 900 or higher. Random Access Memory (RAM) : This is a form of computer data storage which stores frequently used programme instructions to increase the general speed of a system. Depending on the type of laptop you wish to buy, a RAM of between 2G – 4GB and upwards will be required to get your system working optimally. Memory speed refers to the amount of time that it takes the RAM to receive a request from the processor and then read or write data. Generally, the faster the RAM, the faster the processing speed of your laptop. In other words, with a faster RAM, it is easier for you to use the laptop for your multimedia or multi-tasking activities. RAM speed is measured in Megahertz (MHz), millions of cycles per second, so that it can be compared to your processor’s clock speed. Battery : Bearing in mind the peculiar power supply challenges in the country, you are better off investing in a laptop with a strong battery that can guarantee at least up to 10 hours of battery life on average use. For a notebook, a battery capacity of 10,000mAH/3.7V or higher is adequately sufficient to begin with, especially as both the total charging capacity and life of a laptop computer’s battery will diminish as you use your computer. Price : Laptop prices are often predicated on the features of the device, especially the ones listed above. As such, a laptop with a faster processor speed and RAM would likely cost more than a model with less speed. However, increasing competition in the market and more attention to research and development of new products makes it possible these days to find moderately-priced devices boasting features that would naturally be found in more expensive models. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/look-getting-next-laptop/ |

A member of the House of Representatives, Rep. Abubakar Amuda-Kannike (Kwara-APC), has commended the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for constituting a committee on restructuring. Amuda-Kannike told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday that the committee would create a platform for Nigerians to express their views on the issue. He said, ‘’I am aware that APC, my party, has set up a committee to look at restructuring. “I believe APC as a party is trying to create a platform for people to ventilate and express themselves, so that we can understand what a common and popular opinion about restructuring is all about. “So, the party has a platform for pushing agenda for its supporters and Nigerians; it is ventilating restructuring. I think it is a very healthy thing to do.’’ The lawmaker explained that the committee would not determine whether it was going to support restructuring or be against restructuring but come out with a guide for the party. “I think what the committee is going to do is not to determine whether it is for or against restructuring. “The party has already decided on restructuring and the devolution of powers is just one aspect of restructuring. “So, the committee will address other aspects of restructuring and come out with a guide for the party. “Again, APC being very sensitive to the feelings of Nigerians, has set up the committee and should be applauded, it is very proactive and this is commendable,’’ he said. On whether Gov. Nasiru el-Rufai, the restructuring committee chairman, would jeopardise the outcome of the committee’s exercise, Amuda-Kannike said that he would not, saying that el-Rufai had made his interest known. ‘’What the committee is going to do is not to determine whether there is need for restructuring or devolution of powers. “For any responsible person that is given an assignment, you have to declare your interest. ‘’In fact, in the legislature, we are encouraged to disclose our interest. “In a way that el-Rufai is against restructuring shows that his interest is already declared. But that does not mean that he will jeopardise the exercise. “If they believe that despite the fact that he is against restructuring, he is credible enough to head that committee, he cannot bring his personal opinion to bear on the overall decisions of the committee. “That is what I expect from a person of his stature. And that is why the party does not have any concern that he has a personal opinion.’’ The lawmaker said that the intention of the party was to articulate opinions at the end of the exercise which would lead to consultations and be a platform for internal debate for superior arguments. He said the outcome of the consultations would show the popularity of the issue or otherwise. “The assignment is for the committee to articulate opinions and at the end of the exercise, there will be consultations and platform for expressions, internal debate for superior arguments among others. “At the end of the day, it is the outcome of those consultations which will show what is popular or not. “I don’t think the party will come out to say there is no need for restructuring or not; the party is already trying to articulate positions on what Nigerians want to restructure.” NAN https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/apc-constitutes-committee-restructuring-gets-commendation-law-maker/ |
Oba Charles Ibitoye, the Olomu of Omu-Aran in Kwara on Thursday appealed to Nigerians who engage in hate speech and rumour mongering to desist from the act. Ibitoye told Newsmen in Omu-Aran that the call was informed by the need to ensure a peaceful country. He described as worrisome and unpatriotic, rumour mongering and unguarded utterances that emanate from some people in recent times. He reiterated that the development, if not urgently checked, could be a stumbling block to the sustenance of the country’s democratic system. The monarch urged religious leaders irrespective of their callings to use their preaching to spread unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the people. “We in the traditional institution look up to religious leaders to use their ordained position for the benefit of all. “We urged them to play their roles as God’s representatives to douse tension already created by hate speeche, rumour mongering and unguarded utterances in the land,” he said. Sheik Sodiq Afolayan, the Chief Imam of Omu-Aran, expressed the concern of religious leaders to the recent clamour for succession by a section of the country. “It is better for us as citizens, irrespective of our religion, cultural and political background to remain one indivisible entity as championed by our founding fathers,” he said. The cleric urged Muslims to continue to maintain the spirit of generosity, obedience; tolerance and kindness in order attract God’s favour and blessings. He also reminded the faithful to continue to intercede through prayers for solutions to the nation’s insecurity and socio-economic challenges. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/monarch-cleric-appeal-nigerians-eschew-unguarded-utterances/ |

Professor Alphonsus Nwosu, the former Minister of Health and the man who emerged the first governorship candidate of PDP in 1999, was recently appointed the Anambra State Caretaker Committee of the party. Nwosu would have become the first civilian governor of the state under the present political dispensation, but for intrigues that played out in the party then. When, in 2003, the party wanted to appease him with the ticket of the party, he declined and advised the party to consider a younger person. In this interview, Professor Nwosu explained why he accepted the position and the mission of his team. Excerpts: By Vincent Ujumadu How do you intend to carry out your new assignment as chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee? I regard myself as the captain of a first class team of elders on a rescue mission in Anambra State. We thank those who appointed us for having confidence in us. Prof Nwosu: We have a simple objective to reopen the political space in Anambra so that the people will choose who they want to represent them. Simply put, we have promised to keep the front door open so that people will not attempt to use any back door and other means to thwart the will of the people. We intend to succeed. Prof, why did you accept to lead PDP at the state level and at the age of well over 70 years and having served as Minister of the Federal Republic among so many other positions? I recall Professor Chinua Achebe’s answer when he accepted to be President-General of Ogidi Union Nigeria. It was in the process of that assignment that he had the accident that confined him to the wheelchair. He simply answered that one cannot be greater than the soil from which he was created. In other words, you can’t be greater than your brethren. I therefore consider myself privileged to be leading the kind of team on this salvage mission and we are all making immense sacrifices to serve our beloved Anambra State. The calibre of membership which I will reveal to you later will assure you of the integrity of this committee on a mission to reduce the financial and human costs of election in Anambra State. Anambra must cease to be a cash-and-carry state. Anambra being a difficult political terrain, can you effectively lead the party to victory? Anambra is not a difficult terrain in my view. I was the first gubernatorial candidate produced by the party in 1998. We can do it again. All that Anambra people need is for us to be open with them and show them that conditions of life will be better under our political party and that they will be allowed to choose their representatives. This is what I am determined to lead the team to achieve and we are certain that we have the capacity to reconnect with both the elite and the masses in Anambra State. Our objective is that Anambra can be better. Anambra has not yet reached where it ought to be and it is our determination to realign Anambra along the track that produced development in the past for greater achievement in the future. The state that produced the great Zik, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the first Igbo PHD holder, Nnodu Okongwu, Sir Louis Mbanefo, Chinua Achebe, Pius Okigbo, Cardinal Arinze and so many others, must fly again. Anambra’s strength lies in human capital, that is, Ndi Anambra amongst whom are the world’s most talented people. You came in at a time election is a few months away. The party has been in crisis with so many factions, what are you doing to unite the aggrieved parties? Well, the universal answer to grievance is justice and fairness and the caretaker committee will ensure fairness to everybody. We will do everything to be fair because anybody denied justice is not really interested in peace. We shall make sure that the party is not owned by anybody or any faction. The party shall go back to Ndi Anambra, who are the original owners so that they choose who they want, not those who the committee wants or the factions want. We are here to ensure a level-playing field, to enable Ndi Anambra choose their governor. That is our promise to Anambra State and to Nigeria. What about the stakeholders? Are you reaching out to them? Yes. As you can see the caretaker consists of stakeholders from different factions who are solid PDP members. I am a stakeholder and that is why I am the captain of the team. Iyom Josephine Anenih is a stakeholder, Senator Annie Okonkwo is a stakeholder, Elder Linus Ukachukwu is a stakeholder, Senator Ugochukwu Uba is a stakeholder, Chief Obiora Okonkwo is a stakeholder, and many others. And we plan to reach out to all the stakeholders not only in Anambra, but in the South East zone led by Chief Austin Umahi. We will also reach out to stakeholders in Nigeria because the National Secretary of our party comes from Anambra State. And our committee was set up by a resolution of the National Convention of the party. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring all the stakeholders back to the PDP fold and we shall work hard to bring Anambra State and its governor back to national politics and produce the next governor in the state. Do you intend to reorganise the party structure in the state before the November election? Yes. As per the mandate of the National Convention we inaugurated members of the Local Government Committees on Thursday, 17th August 2017 at the PDP State secretariat in Awka for them to go back to inaugurate the various ward executives. In doing this, all stakeholders and elected members under the PDP were consulted. We are also going to make necessary inclusions to accommodate any interest that has been inadvertently missed out in the compilation of the final list. The new structures will be charged with the responsibility of selling the new PDP message to the grassroots. What is the new message of PDP? The new message is simple – raising the quality of human beings in Anambtra State through quality education and meaningful employment. We want to produce new Dr. Nwafor Orizus, new Dr. Ernest Obiejese (Nestoil), Barrister Onyema Allen (AirPeace), Chief Innocent Chukwuma (Innosson), Chief Vincent Obianodo (Young Shall Grow), Chief Augustine Ilodibe etc etc . To do this, of course, requires improved infrastructure. This is what the PDP promises for Anambra State. What strategies are your committee putting in place to effectively deliver Anambra State to PDP? Our strategies are our main weapon for reconnecting with the people of Anambra State and getting their mandate. Since we are determined that the people must choose who governs them, our main task is therefore to connect with Ndi Anambra so that they can choose our candidate to govern them. What we shall do to reconnect cannot be revealed to our competitors. Our promise, however, is that we shall be open, we shall canvass superior solutions to Anambra problem and we shall unveil a superior vision of where Anambra shall be and how we shall get there and finally we shall be decent in executing our strategies because Anambra State in recent weeks has seen the kind of violence that is abhorrent to the human soul. There are challenges from APGA and APC, how do you intend to surmount them? The beauty of politics is that the eagle shall perch and the kite shall perch. Even the vulture will not be driven away. The people shall look at the eagle, look at the kite and look at the vulture and make their choice. What the eagle should not do is to descend to the floor to be looking for earthworms with chickens or struggling with dead and rotten cadavers with vultures. The PDP shall show that it remains the eagle and we hope that Ndi Anambra shall choose the eagle because Ndi Anambra are eagles. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/anambra-will-show-pdp-back-prof-abc-nwosu/ |
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA — NATIONAL leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, said it was not true that the indefinite strike declared last week had been called off. There was a report, weekend, that the strike had been suspended after the Federal Government representatives led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, and Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, met with the leadership of the union in Abuja, Wednesday. But the National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, told Vanguard on telephone, yesterday, that there was no truth in the alleged suspension of the strike. Instead, he said the union was still consulting with the relevant stakeholders on the outcome of the meeting it had with government representatives. Asked when the union would meet again with government and when the National Executive Council, NEC, of ASUU would meet to take final decision, Ogunyemi said for now he was not aware of when to meet with government representatives and that it was after consultation that the NEC would meet. Vanguard reliably gathered that the principal officers of ASUU, including zonal officers, met on Saturday at the union’s secretariat Gwagwalada to review the meeting with government representatives and the offer so far made by government. A source within the union said it was not possible for the national executive to call off strike without consulting the zonal and branch executives which will meet to get mandate from members before taking any decision. Recall that ASUU declared indefinite strike on Monday last week over contentious issues with the Federal Government which included the non implementation of the 2009 agreement the union and the government entered into. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/weve-not-called-off-strike-still-consulting-ASUU/ |

By Nwafor Sunday Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, yesterday, at the state house told newsmen that the six selected governors who went to visit President Muhammadu Buhari in London advised him not to hurry back, but to take care of his health pending when his doctors clear him. According to Ortom, “We were happy to see the president in high spirit, jovial and not on wheel chair nor bedridden. He asked each and every one of us about our state and security situation in the country.” “Our prayer is that God will complete his healing. We asked him not to hurry because there is no vacuum, the Acting President is holding forth for him and he is doing very well and he has his confidence. By the grace of God I believe that very soon he will be with us.” However, Sunnewspaper reported that Ortom said, “It is our responsibility not to be castigating Mr. President or be wishing him ill or whatever. We should be praying for him. If Mr. President is sick, it means all of us are sick, the whole country is sick. So, it is our responsibility to pray that Mr. President gets well so that our country too will be well” he said. From Obinna Odogwu, Abakaliki Tragedy struck yesterday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State as a 32-year-old man, allegedly attacked six members of his family with a cutlass. Eye witnesses accounts said Henry Igwe, swooped on the family members at No 10, Barrister Egbu Crescent, Aguogboriga and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them in the early hours of the day. Two of the victims included the Personal Assistant to the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Mr. Tobias Igwe and his wife. A close member of the family, Nwabuchi Onuagaba, said given the peaceful atmosphere in the family, they had no premonition of the impending tragedy. Daily Sun gathered that given the severity of the machete cuts, Tobias, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Enugu, while his wife and four others were receiving treatment at the Plastic and Surgical Unit of the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki as at the time of filing this report. One of the victims, Miss Ijeoma Igwe explained that their brother, Henry attacked them early in the morning while they were still on their beds. She pointed out that it was an unprovoked attack as he was not known to be mentally ill as at the time of the incident. “We were woken up by a heavy sound suggesting a fight between two or more people. “I ran upstairs to find out what was wrong, only to behold my brother and his wife lying in the pool of their blood,” she said. Another victim, Miss Florence Igwe said Henry first launched the attack on Igwe and his wife and further attacked them when they intervened to stop him. “I was awakened from sleep by the commotion that early morning. I was running up and down, asking them what was happening. Immediately, one of my brothers, dashed out from the house with blood all over him. “His attacker descended on me too, when I wanted to intervene. He cut me in the head. He has been rushed to a hospital in Enugu with one other person,” she said. The Public Relations Officer of the state Judiciary, Eugene Okafor, confirmed the attack, noting that he was responding to treatment. However, when contacted on telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Jude Madu, could not react to the incident, saying he was indisposed. By Boluwaji Obahopo LOKOJA— The crises rocking Kogi State House of Assembly took a new dimension yesterday, as, unexpectedly, the Speaker, Umar Ahmed, resigned his position. Umar Imam Ahmed’s resignation came exactly a week after the 25-member House passed a vote of confidence on him and less than 48 hours after the Assembly was invaded by hoodlums that disrupted plenary. His letter of resignation was read by the Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi, who presided over plenary, which later elected Majority Leader, Kolawole Matthew, as the new Speaker, unopposed. Also, former Chief Whip, Hassan Bello, was elected Majority Leader, while Wale Omofaiye was elected as the new Chief Whip unopposed. The House has been embroiled in crises, with the executive arm alleged to be plotting the removal of Umar Ahmed as Speaker, culminating in the last Tuesday’s invasion of the Assembly by hoodlums. The session, which was attended by 20 out of the 25 members, also saw the retention of Hassan Abdullahi (Dekina/Okura constituency) as Deputy Speaker, even as the sitting was held under tight security. I resigned to save my life — Ahmed The ex-Speaker, Ahmed, in the letter dated August 3, said he decided to throw in the towel to avert plunging the state into another round of crises and to save his life, which has been under intense death threats. In his acceptance speech, the new Speaker, Kolawole, expressed gratitude to the members for reposing confidence in him, promising to do his best to take the assembly to enviable heights. Vanguard , however, gathered that it took the intervention of Senator Smart Adeyemi, who brokered peace between the Assembly and the executive to ensure the “amicable” resolution, prompting members of the House, which had initially adjourned indefinitely, to swallow their pride and call for a sitting 24 hours after the hoodlums’ invasion. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/08/kogi-assembly-speaker-resigns-save-life/

copied from Sunday AnuFalade AFTER YOU HAVE READ THIS...ONE THING MISSING FROM JOE IGBOKWE, LIKE ALL UNGRATEFUL IBOS...IS TO SAY THANK YOU LAGOS PEOPLE AND LAGOS STATE, FOR GIVING ME THE LOVE TO THRIVE IN YOUR ENVIRONMENT. This attitude is almost tantamount to most IBO beliefs...WE MADE YOU...WITHOUT US YOU ARE NOTHING. WHERE WERE IGBOKWE's ancestors, when Lagos produced the first...Lawyers, Physicians , Surgeons, Land Surveyors, Missionary Bishops, that went on to preach Christianity , education and civilisation in the NIGER DELTA AND BEYOND. ALWAYS LEARN TO BE GRATEFUL, FOR EVERY LITTLE THAT YOU GET, AND NOT BELIEVE THAT WITHOUT YOU , NO ONE ELSE CAN SURVIVE... You will soon learn that without OTHERS you cannot SURVIVE !!! Joe Igbokwe wrote NNAMDI KANU CALLED ME A HUNGRY SLAVE RESIDING IN LAGOS AND I HAVE FOUND THE NEED TO TELL MY STORY AGAIN FOR RECORD PURPOSES. I WANT NNAMDI TO TELL HIS OWN STORY TOO. PLEASE READ THIS: In 1971, after my primary school education, poverty drove me to Lagos to find something to do to help my poor mother and siblings. Civil War devastated my father’s thriving business in Onitsha and we all suffered from 1966 to 1970 when the war ended. With four wives and 34 children, my parents could not cope any more. My brothers and sisters dropped out of school to learn a trade. Because I was a little ‘sharp’ in school, my father encouraged me to finish primary school. It is needless here to recall how I and few of my siblings survived to finish our primary education. Consequently when my mates were taking Common Entrance Examination, I did not because there was no need to do so. No money, no three square meals a day, no good clothing, just nothing. My mother encouraged me to travel with friends to Lagos. We landed at Sawmill Ebute Metta where I worked as a sawdust carrier at seven Shilling, six Pence a day. My job was to pack sawdust from the Machines to the Lagoon from 7am to 5 pm daily. I did this for nearly two years and later I became a danfo conductor plying Idioro/Ajegunle axis. From there I joined my brother in a supermarket business at Ijesha Road, Surulere. I did this until I returned home during Christmas in December 1973. I came home to meet my friends I was beating academically in school trying to make me feel and look inferior. Again I also noticed while in Lagos that if I fail to go to school, I may end up doing menial jobs meant for illiterates till the end of age. I decided to go back to school to add values to my life. But where are the school fees? There was nothing. How I managed to get the first school fee to start and what happened thereafter will take a book to do the narrative. In 1979 I left Okongwu Memorial Grammar School Nnewi with Division One and was the school Head Boy. I taught in the same school as an Auxiliary Teacher from 1979 – 1980. In 1980 I got admission to read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and graduated in 1985. I did my Youth Service in Ogun State and thereafter I returned to Lagos in 1986 to begin a journey to where I am today. I walked the streets of Lagos from 1986 – 1988 until the then military government headed by Gen Ibrahim Babangida set up the National Directorate of Employment, (NDE) to encourage graduates to start their own businesses. I got a loan of N27,500, using my NYSC discharge Certificate and my Degree Certificate as collateral at 9% interest rate. I set up a Restaurant Business in Western Avenue, Lagos and hit an instant success. While doing this business, I spread my nets also to the auto spare parts market in Lawanson, Surulere where my brother thrives as a very successful importer. I opened a shop there and got a boy to take charge of the business. From there, I entered into Auto dealership in Western Avenue Surulere. I paid back that loan in full and collected back my certificates. In 1995, I wrote my first book, Igbos: 25 Years After Biafra. I also established National Vision Newspapers in 1997. In 1999, I wrote my second book: Heroes of Democracy. In 2004 I co-authored 2007: The IBB Option with my good friend, Peter Claver Oparah. One thing led to another. I became an opinion molder, a public commentator, political analyst, writer and an advocate of the peoples’ cause. I bought my first car in 1990 and became a millionaire in 1995 after launching of my first book. In 2006, the then Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made me the pioneer General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure & Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) and I was there for almost 10 years. I served Asiwaju’s government for the remainder of his days as Lagos Governor. I served His Excellency Governor Babatunde Fashola for 8years. In September 2015, His Excellency Governor Akinwunmi Ambode moved me to Wharf Landing Fees Collecting Authority Apapa as Chairman. I became the Publicity Secretary AC, ACN, and APC since late 2006 till date. By the grace of God I have been the Chairman of Conference of APC Publicity Secretaries (CAPS) in Nigeria since 2014. These positions and exploits have put me in the limelight in Lagos and Nigeria since the early 90s, and God has been kind to me. These offices have opened the doors of the rich and poor to me. They have opened the inner ways, byways, subways, expressways and highways to the corridors of power in Nigeria. I have been connected to the pace setters, policy makers, the movers and shakers of blue chip companies, newsmakers and the powers that be in Lagos. The magic of Lagos, the beauty of Lagos, the dynamics of Lagos, the glory of Lagos, the momentum of Lagos, the capacity, capability and the strength of Lagos touched me in no uncertain terms since 1986 (32years ago) till date…..and still counting. My sojourn in Lagos for 32 years has also opened my eyes as a historian as to what Lagos has done for my people from South East. Today as I write this Igbo do not have a quarter of what they have in Lagos in the South East in terms of investments. As I write this book, Igbo are the second most populous ethnic group in Lagos. Today, Igbo exert tremendous influence and capacity in Lagos and its success story. Few years back two prominent sons of Nnewi told me in confidence that they did not know they have been wasting their time in Nnewi until they came to Lagos. They said Lagos opened doors for limitless opportunities and endless possibilities. I have seen people come from other parts of Nigeria to hit gold mine in Lagos. I got married in 1990 and all my five kids are all Lagosians and so are millions of Igbo kids born in Lagos. They have lived most of their lives in Lagos, schooled in Lagos, worked in Lagos, made friends in Lagos and have keyed to the Lagos success story. They know any other place except Lagos. Lagos is their home. This is not limited to Igbo alone but all other ethnic groups and of course Yoruba from outside Lagos. Lagos is a melting pot, a mega city, a cosmopolitan beehive. Lagos controls the heartbeat of Nigeria, its wealth, its influence and its strategic socio-economic and political hub. Lagos changed my thinking and original thoughts, Lagos emboldened me, Lagos motivated me, Lagos challenged me and Lagos made me. I can say no less. This is the story of Lagos, my Lagos. It is still unraveling, not for me alone but millions of other Nigerians, to the glory of God." As written by a Facebook user
