Can someone please guide me on what to do. I use an old dell laptop for my trading on Atlass Portfolios Cititrader, Having buy a more advanced HP laptop. the website became inaccessible on the New PC. It will do a partioal login and then throw a "not connecting" error message. I have complained to Atlass, they kept telling me there platform has no issues. i was told to speak with their Engineers, but they aren't reachable. what can I do. its affecting my productivity as i have to keep managing my old laptop but My Yakubu can no longer manage.
Please I need help on this
This problem is as a result of you permanently storing your login details on your old or other system.
Solution: completely delete/remove your login details from the old system. Restart the old system and check if your login details are still there or not. If still there, it means you haven’t removed it. Once deleted or removed, go on to login your details on the new PC.

My son recently experienced same issue when he stopped using his laptop to switch to his Ipad pro M1. And the above was what I did to resolve the problem.

So that means this summary is wrong ba?

Dangote Petroleum Refinery is raising funds primarily to support a massive expansion of its processing capacity from its current 700,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028,

The valuation by the production of 1.4 million barrels per day is supposed to be $50B. That is my own understanding
But Dangote recently revealed he rejected NNPC ‘s bid to increase their stake in his refinery. He has also repeatedly claimed he will be listing to allow ordinary Nigerians part ownership of the refinery. He also claimed he was selling only 10% of the entire refinery and it will be across some African exchanges.

Does this capture the informal tax? Hmmm, how I wish, so you can see a totally different data. Someone did a report on Agbero/ MC Oluomo tax revenue sometime ago. Their revenue was mind boggling.

I know for a fact that Nigerians pay more taxes.
Even this government used it to justify the need for a tax reform. Just too much multiplicity of taxes. And there are others that you just pay on your own so you can breathe! In 2017, I spent over 500k repairing a road leading to my street so i can drive to my house in peace. I am still spending my personal money on public facilities including private biz- Ikeja electric till today.
When I moved to my house in 2015, i used to have light upward of 3 days non stop but since last year that i am placed on Band A, I now get much less after taking my bill from 4naira per kilowatt to 200+ per kilowatt.
So we actually pay more taxes here to the government- three tiers and also to the informal. That is the reality!

BREAKING: Lagos Moves to Ban Illegal Roadblock Tax Collection, Offenders Risk ₦2m Fine, 3-Year Jail Term

The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to streamline taxation and eliminate illegal levies through a new bill designed to harmonise taxes, enforce electronic payments, and impose stricter penalties on unauthorized collections.

The proposal was disclosed during a public hearing at the Lagos State House of Assembly on a bill titled: “A Law to Enact the Lagos State Harmonised Taxes and Levies, to Provide for the Collection of Taxes by the State and Its Local Government Councils, and for Related Matters.”

Speaker of the House, Chief Mudashiru Obasa represented by Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, described the hearing as a platform for inclusive stakeholder engagement, stressing that effective lawmaking must reflect public input.

He noted that the bill is aimed at eliminating duplication in tax collection, improving coordination across agencies, and strengthening public service delivery.

A key feature of the proposed law is the mandatory adoption of electronic payment systems, which lawmakers say will reduce cash-based transactions, curb leakages, and enhance transparency in revenue collection.
Presenting the bill, Majority Leader Noheem Adams said the current system has been plagued by multiple illegal charges affecting residents and businesses.

He added that the legislation also aligns with recent amendments to Nigeria’s tax framework.

The draft bill further prohibits the use of roadblocks for tax and levy collection and introduces strong taxpayer protection provisions.

It also prescribes stiff penalties for offenders, including a fine of ₦2 million or up to three years imprisonment for unauthorized tax collection.

Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Femi Saheed, said the reform would improve governance efficiency and ease the burden of multiple taxation on businesses operating in the state.

Stakeholders present at the hearing included the Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi; Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue, Opeyemi Ogungbo; Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Ayo Subair; and representatives from professional bodies including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Now, they are trying to harmonize and capture these numerous taxes into State coffers, Not banning them but banning the illegal tax collectors.
I spent 4k yesterday on parking. 1k to pass through local airport to Ikeja. 1k to park at Ikeja Post office and 2k to park at Lagos State Fire Service at Toyota bus stop, opposite Ladipo Market. These payments go into private pockets.

With regards to corruption, as I have stated, corruption is not something that can be objectively measured and as such debating about it is pointless as everybody will be giving their personal experience which to them is valid.

With regards to security, the government can only protect you with the resources you give to them.

Does the "common man" feel he has any responsibility in life? It's the government's job to put in place policies and infrastructure to help the economy grow. It's the "common man's" job to take advantage of those policies and become prosperous.

This idea that government owes you a comfortable life has held Nigeria back for decades and it needs to change.
I think the basis for any government is to PROTECT and SERVE everyone especially the common man.
What keeps holding us back as a country is not the provision of a comfortable life for Nigerians but rather due to massive corruption by politicians. You keep hearing they shared billions to the poor but you will never find any real beneficiary.

I am a frequent traveler to Brazil and I can confirm that even as a foreigner you don’t pay a dime for medicals- treatment, drugs and even feeding while on admission in all Federal and State hospitals. Same for education to any level in public schools which also includes feeding and accommodation. Infact, some public universities pay as much as 2100 reais monthly to each student. One Reais is currently 270 naira. I can go on o. Yet, they haven’t been held back!

They have one of the best medical institutions in the world! It is 24hrs. I always enjoy it each time I travel to Brazil and it is completely free.

I attended MBHS on broad street in this same Lagos. I only paid schools fees to enter class one because Alhaji Lateef Jankade was later sworn in as Governor of Lagos State and made sure everything was completely free. We were regularly given textbooks and writing materials. His children attended public schools with us while he was Governor of Lagos State! One of his daughters Dupe attended Maryland Comprehensive high school, Lagos. She later attended Ogun State University with his brother while I was there. Same for Segun Awoloeo who died recently. My seat mate at some point in MBHS, Christopher Agbamuche was the son of Senator Agbamuche. Then he lived at 1004 estate with his dad Senator Agbamuche while i lived at Palm Avenue, Mushin with my parent in a room face me i face you, but yet school mates with a serving Senator’s son. Can that happen today in Nigeria? No, because rogues have taken over governance in Nigeria and it is very unfortunate to see many defend and make excuses for them!

Anyone that's been able to teach recently should please share how they did.

Disappointing.
It is so bad now! After previously sending two mails without any response, I called them on WhatsApp and they instantly rejected the calls 3x without any message. I then messaged them that it wasn’t their fault, that I will do the needful so I won’t ever have to call them again.

And I am currently on track on my promise although i had already moved more than half of my funds from them as at October last year when they increased their fees.

@Sophy17, please note the following about Norrenberger dollar fund:

The Norrenberger dollar fund is a mutual fund denominated in USD.
You can also do a top-up with any amount that can get you a unit.
The fund is price-based, unlike MMF, which is always 100. So, because of that, the value fluctuates but is not volatile like stocks.
The underlying asset is basically Eurobonds, hence the price fluctuation. It's currently $106.13.

Funding can be done by transferring from your dom account or by cash deposit into the fund manager's collection account.

Holding period is 90 days

Interest doesn't accrue daily, but dividends are paid every quarter, and value can also rise because the price can increase. As of January, the price was $105.

The minimum initial deposit is $550, while you can top up with a minimum amount that gets 1 unit.

You are free to reach out if you need more clarity.
Many thanks

The beauty of an alternative to real estate (physical property) - REIT

SFSREIT is to distribute 28.3 to unitholders for the year ended 2025.

Imagine an investor who bought early in 2023, around 110/unit

If he bought 1,000,000 units, then at the cost of 110,000,000

2023 year end - 14,500,000 @ distribution per unit of 14.5
2024 year end - 21,500,000 @ distribution per unit of 21.5
2025 year end - 28,300,000 @ distribution per unit of 28.3

In 3 years, the investor will have 64,300,000. Currently, the price of SFSREIT is 418.75

That gives 418,750,000 if he sells today, so in 3 years, with the dividends added, he realizes 483,050,000

Let's assume he uses 4,050,000 as the cost of transactions, which gives a net of 479,000,000
All of this happened without the investor buying a piece of land or building any house. May not have even stepped out of the house.

Be in touch if you wish to come on board.
Pls what is the qualification and payment date for the 28.30 distribution?

Please, how long does it typically take to get CSCS registration done by stockbrokers. ARM has been on CSCS registration for someone I introduced to them for so long. To even open account and get kyc done was a hurdle. Been on the whole process for over 3 months. Is it that opening new accounts is made more difficult by regulatory requirements or this particular stockbroker has had enough clients and can't take more. Mails yield nothing beyond how deeply sorry they are.

You’re right. I was tempted to ask the guy celebrating his win in NCR if he bought Niger Insurance. I bought 2.5m units with about 520k naira and still seeing the loss in my portfolio.

I ran into an old friend i saw last since 1987, last Friday at a funeral party and realizing he was the company secretary/legal adviser for 15yrs for Niger Insurance, I asked him if there is any hope for the coy. He said, non, that the coy is already under Receivership. That he severally warned the management and that those responsible for the misfortunes of the company leading to withdrawal of its license are walking freely!
So sometimes it goes beyond our permutations but luck

You don't pay CGT each time you sell.
You wait for the year end and file your returns.
Please note that there is so much confusion emanating from the tax law itself and the guy Taiwo Oyedele. Besides, he has never been completely transparent and truthful regarding the tax law and its implications.

For clarity, your statement only applies to if the proceed of sale remains with your broker. It does not apply if you’re withdrawing after sales within the tax year. The tax is immediately triggered the moment you try to withdraw your sales proceeds once either of the threshold is met from 1st Jan, 2026 and it does not matter whether it happened within the first month of the year!.

He has repeatedly said they would work with the brokers, Ngx and CSCS and even our bank acs through our bankers to track/ monitor stock accounts transactions, and other credits and possibly debit tax or raise tax advice as the case may be, while also saying at different times that people will be expected to keep their own records and file their tax returns at year end. Recall the prostitute example he gave at a church event.

I am just happy that even though majority of the players in the market do not really understand the law, the few who does have and control huge stake in the market rejected it loudly through their massive dumping which sent a clear message and the resultant reaction from Wale Edun.

The NGX reaction of mass sell off is the loudest message. Even up till now, despite passing the law some months ago they don’t have any tangible framework or structure in place for implementation.
