Please forgive my ignorance, would it not have served the Dr Esenowo better if he had simply changed the order of his name and reapplied rather than going through this prolong court case? Or was he just trying to prove a point?
Some mistakes are just costly, unpardonable and with severe consequence. Simply changing the name to align with the register was not the issue but providing the documents/proof with which to support it.

Hence, in the recent times, human educational records are now collected/supported in several ways such as passport photograph, biometrics, etc and not just the name.

In the instant case, the only proof of him they have, is his name in their register as it is. Meanwhile he brought his documents showing his name written in another form different from the name in their register.

Audacius:
On the issue of frustration by registrars, maybe this experience might help some persons:

I once had quite a number of pending e-dividend requests and was frustrated after multiple submission of applications to my bank, and DHL of requested documents to my stockbroker.

I recall I had to go update my ID document at my bank and a customer care staff observed that the order of my name on the ID document was different from that on my BVN, hence the bank account. BVN was done at an e-branch of the same bank and the mistake was made. I had observed it on my ATM card but didn't think much of it.

Someone I consulted told me that, legally, the BVN name order and name order on my ID documents are for different persons. E.g. Adekunle Chukwuma Ciroma is different from Chukwuma Adekunle Ciroma even though it's the same person writing their name differently.

I went through an arduous journey of swearing an affidavit at the court and going to the line up at the notoriously queue-laden, few branches, you-know-which orange bank for the name to be corrected.

After that, the dividends started pouring in. It was a delight actually. You are just on your own doing your thing and a random look at your phone Afriprud has paid all dividends from a particular stock for so many years. Yes, that was when I got my pending dividend from JB's GTL Registrars.

The sad thing is no one told me NAME ORDER was the problem until that chance observation by the bank staff. I think about this possibility as one of the many problems whenever I see news items about the billions of unclaimed dividend and how government is unable to sleep well because of it. I think a feedback system is going to reduce it. Let people know why that form they submitted is not being treated. That should be easy in this digital age.

SUMMARY:
If you are having problems getting your dividends, check if the order of your name on BVN is same as on your ID document. Seems registrars' system will flag it as not to be attended to once name orders don't match.

SUMMARY OF SUMMARY Check the NAME ORDER on your BVN and your ID documents. Do they match?!

Peace!
Find below a court judgement in full support of your write up.

Esenowo v Ukpong [1999] 6NWLT [PT 608]* 611. CAN THE WAY ONE WRITES HIS/HER NAME TURN THAT PERSON TO SOMEONE ELSE BEFORE THE LAW?*
*In short, it may interest you to know that the way you write your name can make you someone else. Does it sounds funny?*
This was established in the celebrated case of *Esenowo v. Ukpong* The fact of the matter was Dr. E. J. Esenowo applied for reimbursement from Nigerian Medical Council but the Council because there is no E. J. Esenowo but Esenowo, J. E. in the register of the Council denied him his demands.
He approached the High Court and was refused his prayers. On appeal, Court of Appeal held that what the first defendant wrote in Exhibit H was true because the professional register for 1980 and 1981 entered the name “Esenowo, J. E.” not “E. J. Esenowo”. *In professional matters it is always of great importance to have one’s name inserted correctly.* The Court of Appeal therefore held that the Dr. Esenowo in the register of medical practitioners was J. E. Esenowo and not E. J. Esonowo, a correct statement of fact.
*Is it true that the register of Nigerian Medical Council for 1980 and 1981 did not contain plaintiff/appellant’s name?* There is a world of difference between “J. E. Esenowo” and “E. J. Esenowo”.
*The surname is Esenowo, the first and middle names being “Johnson” and “Esenowo” respectively. This will be rendered into “Dr. J. E. Esenowo” not “Dr. E. J. Esenowo” that the appellant in his pleading and evidence clearly claimed to be the correct name.*
On appeal again the five Justices of Supreme Court *unanimously refused him his prayers because of this fact and agreed that the way someone’s name is written makes a whole world of difference.* The Court held as follows:
*The surname is Esenowo, the first and middle names being “Johnson” and “Esenowo” respectively. This will be rendered into “Dr. J. E. Esenowo” not “Dr. E. J. Esenowo”*
*That whole world of difference that the arrangement of one’s name makes, led the Supreme Court to hold specifically that “Dr. E. J. Esonowo is not registered with the Nigerian Medical Council.”*
*The normal way of writing your name follows a specific order: First name (first) Middle name or Middle names (next) Surname (last). Example, in this case: Johnson (first name)*
Esenowo (middle name) Esenowo (surname), i.e. Johnson Esenowo Esenowo
The said normal way of writing your name should change only where any form or document you are required to fill out specifically states that you should write your surname first. In that case, the proper order is: Surname (followed by a comma), First name Middle name Example: Esenowo, Johnson Esenowo
*But where the form or document provides boxes or different places labelled “Surname”, “First name”, and “Middle name”, simply write the required name (do not add any comma after your surname). Example: (1) Surname: Esenowo (2) First name: Johnson (3) Middle name: Esenowo.*
Never write your middle name before your first name. It does not matter whether you are writing just the initials of your first name and middle name instead of their full version. *That was the mistake of Dr. Johnson Esenowo Esenowo. The Supreme Court held that he was Dr. J. E. Esenowo, not Dr. E. J. Esenowo. You can imagine the huge costs, embarrassment, and loss that the “simple” or “little” mistake of writing his name in the wrong order caused him.*
*Be careful, therefore, to ensure that you write your name (whether in full or initials) in the proper order always and everywhere. Remember, the way you write your name can make you someone else, as it happened, unfortunately, to Dr. Johnson Esenowo Esenowo. This is the law on how you should write your name properly.*
Thank you very much
RomanceRe: My Fiancé Disregards Me, How Do I Handle This? by sophy17(m): 10:16pm On Sep 09, 2020
Sessanvandy:
Good evening Nairalanders, please i need your sincere opinion on this issue bothering me.

I have been dating this guy for 9 months and our relationship has been going well except for this issue.

My boyfriend or should i say fiancé ( he has introduced me to his family as the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with and my family is in support of the relationship) has been in contact with his ex-girlfriend who is married with a son.

My man spends 1-2hrs on phone with his ex girlfriend in my presence and when i confronted him, he told me to bear in mind that he can never stop talking to her because she didn't offend him and if she needs any monetary support, he won't hesitate to help.

They have no intimate relationship maybe cus of distance, He agreed not to call her but promised to take her calls when she does and she calls frequently.

Her husband also warned him to stay away from his wife but he wouldn't listen.

He is a nice guy with a good heart and we are planning introduction by December

I told him that if he can't stop communicating with his ex girlfriend the relationship is over but he still insist on maintaining contact with her...

Pls am i overreacting, How do i handle this??....mature advice needed!

sorry for the long post.
I think you should immediately create a fake relationship that will do exactly (with you) what he has been doing with his married ex. But be careful to use a male family member he does not really know because he may claim the guy is actually dating you and you may not be able to prove it.

If he complains, ask him why, when he sees nothing wrong with what he's been doing with his ex. If doesn't, then he is actually not seriuos with you anymore and has actually even been doing that to get rid of you.

Even if he truly has nothing fishy with the ex, he is not right doing that and it is only a matter of time, they will.
BusinessRe: Alaba International Market, Correcting The Populace Mind And Setting The Record by sophy17(m):
Onlinealaba:
I will start by quoting Edmund Burke where he stated “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Yesterday after a busy day at work I was just on my stroll on nairaland front-page when a particular topic caught my attention I carefully read all the comments and I think it's necessary to create this topic to correct notions identify many issues concerning the market and business related activities and set the record straight.

Alaba international market is a very big market(biggest electronics market in west-africa) even though we have the electrical section, industrial section, fancy and furniture section that is categorised , each of this section of the market have their union leader with a task force set up in over seeing the day to day activities of the Market. The electronics section is splitted into two the IMAE( You get most of the new electronics here and also tokunbo though not major) and is headed by the able leadership of Evangelist Paulinus Ugochukwu( MD sound prince company limited) then the St Peter's axis this where you get most of your tokunbo items.

As a first timer at Alaba you will be approached by a lot of osoafia hustlers some are genuine(looking for their daily bread and hustling to better their lives) while most of them are there to rip you off without conscience now most times they work on your greed, someone will approach you to tell you he will give you a Samsung 32" LED TV for 15k and so many outrageous prices like that if you fall for this first and cheap scam then you are your way to come create more topics about how you were scammed at Alaba.

These scammers and fraudsters have their rings and are connected it's likely you don't escape their bitter pill when you fall in the hand of one of them the best to do is to be wary of their subtle devices. It's worthy to also note that these set of people are both Yoruba and Igbos because it was terribly seeing so many people playing the tribal game and associating a particular tribe to the cheap scam that happens daily, the Yoruba osoafia guy will approach you and poison your mind on why you shouldn't patronise a Igbo guy and with trust you believe him the same thing an Igbo guy will do too(note that are all same ring both the Yoruba and Igbos) their major aim is to rip you off.

I stated earlier that there are task force that handles all the issues concerning each section of the market the main thing is identifying the section you transacted from and go and report immediately , identify the task force chairman it will be easier solving your case.

There are alot of genuine and hardworking traders in the market the same way you can't Cross out the bad guys in such a big market like that(they always have their way round) the only thing is making sure you are observant and detect any shady deals before paying for an item, read the receipt issued to you before signing.

And lastly that an item is tokunbo doesn't mean it should go for an outrageous pricing unless you are buying non tested, some particular item in tokunbo are costlier then the new ones (depending on the country of import and manufacturer).

A submission from a trader at Alaba int'l market Ojo Lagos
All I can understand from your post is that Alaba market is full of scammers disguised as traders and that the task force is only waiting for victims to report rather than getting rid of them from the market.

I vowed never to visit alaba market electronics. Even when you face scammers, you still contend with harassmeent from thugs you call osoafia hustlers. I only buy from lagos Island all my electricals.

You can get knowledge of law without reading it in school, anything that will not bring you money, no waste time actually paying for it.
Yes but not as in when you actually study it.
Who says Law will not bring you money. It does. I am a lawyer and I make lots of money from it. I had to sponsor myself to read Law as a second degree.

What you have is actually a blessing but you don't know yet.
It is all about perception and how you make sure you are in charge or in control of the situation and you will be fine.
Latter in life you will be very happy with yourself when you see your mates looking very very old and weak while you are still looking sharp. I am a good example today. I use to feel somehow too but I conquered with my inteligence, wisdom, hardwork and achievements.

CBN's ill advised increase in LDR has exposed many banks to significant risks. Non performing loans have exponentially increased. While official CRR is 27.5, through sporadic and punitive take over of bank fund, many bank's CRR is as high as 60% limiting their ability to maneuver in these unusual times.
With all that you know and say concerning Banks in Nigeria, I don't expect you to still have and operate a Nigerian bank account otherwise please calm down.

Nigerian roads are dead traps on all fronts. Travelling by road is like going on a suicide mission. From Bad roads, to kidnappers den, robbers and bandits hideouts, and to security agents extortion ground, While also being used for sham contracts to siphone money year in year out by the politicians.

What a big loss for the entire nation.

Not yet oo. Sent mails without any reply from d registrar.
Two things you should do.
1. Request for Share transfer form from your broker. Sign the transferee side of the share transfer form and send or scan it to your broker, who inturn will process it with the cscs.
2. Download, Fill, sign and scan your completed e- dividend mandate form to the appropriate company's Registrar.

Make sure 1 and 2 above is received/acknowledged by your broker and the Concerned Registrar to be sure they received it, and it will be treated.

In this game, one cannot be too sure.

I don’t want to believe anyone here will buy a liquid ZenithBank at 100 naira at the same fundamentals as now because Zenith is ready to sell face masks or something.

Not to talk of an illiquid asset, that a couple of thousands will move down or up.

If you like do all the Jacobian transformations or Laplace transformations you know. It doesn’t change what it is.
Nobody know it all here or anywhere. Hence we are here to learn from each other which I believe can be done by listening and reasoning together.

I hold the view that any stock can be a subject of pump and dump. It only depends on the players involved and at what time and space.

To me a pump and dump is when a stock suddenly goes from zero bid to full bid and no offers and then suddenly goes back to full offer and zero bid without any visible or corresponding fundamentals or reasons. This is the obvious signal I am seeing in Neimeth.

I have not been enjoying their services since the merger. It is just unfortunate that I have most of my dividend mandated with the account.
My ac was actually opened with the then Intercontinental bank b4 it merged with Access and then the corporate pilfering started and I abandoned the ac. Hence, I stopoed funding my diamond ac immediately after the merger with Access, knowing what to expect. Though painful "cos I opened the diamond ac since 1992.
I have noticed a trend that they do this things when they are about to prepare their coy financial result and also when perparing to pay dividend.

They didn't do anything different. All banks have been doing the deduction silently without alerts. grin
They are doing some things differently that calls for concern. Maybe not with you.
They have been deducting atm card maintenance fee from my account that I do not possess atm card. On one occassion that I went to my branch for another lingering complaint, I seized the opportunity to drop a letter of complaint. My money was refunded aftet 48 hrs only for them to deduct it again after 24 hrs.
Anyway, I am not surprised, as it has been their way. I stopped using my access bank ac many years ago. I only find myself in their trap again after they merged with Diamond and I immediately stopped funding the ac so they are only deducting the change left in my account.
I blame CBN for this mess. They are only quick to saction banks when it will generate income for CBN as against when it will benefit bank customers.

Yes, because you can still pay 10% for that same property to process LA notwithstanding you already paid or have been paying LUC
In addition my points are:
1. You don't pay 10% on stocks to process LA.
2. From the time of Jagaban, you cannot undervalue a property in lagos to the extent of 160m to 40m.

Yes, it was the norm before, but no longer feasible.

[quote author=emmanuelewumi post=90916800]You can avoid the 10% tax by writing a will, transfer the assets to your children before transition or transfer the assets to a Family Trust Account.

Very difficult to under declare the value of the stocks, but the value of real estate are usually under declared.

My cousins inherited 4 properties worth a minimum of N160 million, but the lawyer who helped them with the letter of administration declared N50 million as the value of the properties. They quickly used N5 million rental income from the property to pay government.[/quote

It is no longer possible to undervalue property in lagos state right from the tenure of Jagaban. In fact, at a point during his administration, he appointed independent estate valuers to do the valuations on behalf of the state.
And the trend has continued with the subsequent Govs, though they now have regularly reviewed rates for different locations, that reflect true value.

And you pay the government 10percent of the value of what you want to claim up front. Then after all the up and down the government will publish the notice in daily newspaper for a month for any interest party or contention. And if none then you become the administrator to only the assets listed in the form be it shares, houses, cash in bank, cars etc.It will take not less than six months.Note is only applicable if thr was no will
10% is only charged on real assets and bank balance. A minimal fixed amount is charged per stock not units in view of the volatile/unstable nature of stock prices.
