Francis Leavy’s Handprint

When we talk about a dedicated firefighter then Francis is one of them. The man cherished his job and this is one of the many reasons that made his friends and colleagues love him. He's always with a smile plastered on his face too.

Sadly, on April 18, 1924, something changed about Francis and the nice, smiling man was gone only to be replaced with a frowning one. He went to the window of the Chicago fire department and kept washing it.

He abruptly stopped, confessing to his colleague of a strange feeling down the pit of his stomach. Francis told them he had a feeling he would be dying that day. It was that moment they received a call that says a building was engulfed with fire.

They actually went to the building, helped people get out and it seems things will be fine, but it didn't turn out well.
Flames engulfed the lower part of the building, and the roof caved in. When this happened, the building crumbled and yes, Francis was killed in it.

The following day, his colleagues sat at the firehouse only to discover a handprint smudged on the window Francis was cleaning the very day he died.
It would have been no big deal, really but after several attempts to clean the handprint with water and chemicals, the handprint wouldn't budge.

Years after, a boy threw a newspaper at the window, shattering it and ending the handprint mystery.

Dorothy Eady and Omm Sety

Dorothy Eady played, laughed, ran, and enjoyed life like any toddler and her parents loved her dearly.
But something tragic befell her one day. As usual, the toddler ran down the stairs, slipped, and fell. The impact on her was brutal and was pronounced dead.

We can as well call it a miracle when she woke up again and was well and healthy for four more years, however, in 1908, things changed.

They went out one beautiful day to the British museum where they noticed how strange their daughter was becoming. When Dorothy got to the Egyptian segment, she became transfixed. The artifacts caught her eyes as she sat with a glass-enclosed mummy. She didn’t even want to go back home with her parents!

What worried her parents at that point was that she ran around the statues and kissed their feet.

Dorothy became depressed after the museum incident and would look at ancient Egyptian pictures all day. One time, she insisted Egypt was her home. Dorothy wanted to go back!

When she set her eyes on the picture of “Temple Of SETI the first Abydos” she showed her dad and insisted that she came from there. Strange right?

Before seeing this picture, Dorothy often had a dream about Egyptian buildings. Years later, she actually got married to an Egyptian man, had a baby she name seti but her marriage collapsed. Her husband was tired of her constant transfixion and trance.

Well, she also did a lot of writings and amounted to 70 pages, detailing Omm’s life in ancient Egypt. This says that she used to be a priestess at the Kim El Sultan temple and also mothered a child by Pharoah SETI at 14. The problem is that she’d broken a rule which says priestesses have to be virgins. Furthermore, the priestess took her life to save Pharaoh.

Dorothy died in 1981 but up till today, there were no logical explanations of her dreams and memories. Was she a reincarnation of the Egyptian priestess, Omm Sety?

China’s Dwarf Village

There’s hardly any country with no village and China won’t be left out. One thing is for sure; there are so many villages in China but one is pretty popular.

This village is quite different from any other because scientists have a huge interest in the people living in Yangsi village. There are only residents and they’re mostly dwarfs!

A lot of rumors flew around, saying people of Yangsi have been afflicted with a disease about 60 years ago and it has stopped young children between five and seven from growing.
From more research from experts, there’s a possibility that one out of twenty thousand people from Yangsi will be a dwarf.

Children of blood and bones

This debut by Tomi Adeyemi actually shook the book industry in 2018. This story is a Nigerian fantasy mythological story that centers around a world of magic. It's like killing two birds with a stone because it has a deeper meaning. Social injustice!

Blackass

This story by Igoni Barrett definitely looks interesting and it's also his first novel. Okay… here is the weird part of the story: Wariboko is black until he turns to a white man when he went for an interview. Oh, a part of his body was left as black though and that his is ass.

Nnedi Okorafor was born in the united states to two Nigerian parents and her love for Igbo fantasy is not surprising. This story is a combination of juju, rituals (the blood money type), and Nigerian festivals all blended into a fabulous YA fantasy story.

Still, I wonder if it's because they've never really found a very good African story to read. That's why I put together the list of books I have read. And yes, there are African fantasy novels that are great!

So Marvel fans, are you ready?!

1. Iron Man

The Thousand Floors by Katherine McGee

The Thousandth Floor - Katharine McGee - E-book

What I actually love about this book is the futuristic technology, the whole issues brewing between the characters, and the seamless way the author blended the future to the present. All I see is a book that reminds me of Iron Man.

Blurb: A hundred years in the future, New York is a city of innovation and dreams. But people never change: everyone here wants something… and everyone has something to lose. Leda Cole’s flawless exterior belies a secret addiction—to a drug she never should have tried and a boy she never should have touched. Living above everyone else on the thousandth floor is Avery Fuller, the girl genetically designed to be perfect. The girl who seems to have it all—yet is tormented by the one thing she can never have.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

Amazon.com: The Thief (The Queen's Thief Book 1) eBook: Turner ...
I chose THE THIEF because the scenes and setting remind me so much of Iron Man!

Blurb: Eugenides, the queen’s thief, can steal anything—or so he says. When his boasting lands him in prison and the king’s magus invites him on a quest to steal a legendary object, he’s in no position to refuse. The magus thinks he has the right tool for the job, but Gen has plans of his own. Megan Whalen Turner’s Queen’s Thief novels are rich with political machinations and intrigue, battles lost and won, dangerous journeys, divine intervention.

Food18 Incredible Origins Of Famous Foods — Dear Weekly Magazine by sosa993(op): 11:07am On May 21, 2020
Ever wonder how your favourite food came to be? Uhm... right? Well, from Pastas to Amala to Hamburgers to pavlova, this is the content you asked for and you’re getting it! Can you guess where your favourite food really came from?

1. HAMBURGERS
Yea, hamburger took its name from a place in Germany, but you’d be surprised famous foods have origins you’d never expect.

It’s also a fact that the first patties were created in the 19th century with beef mince which is from Hamburg cows. It didn’t end there... this delicious food was taken to USA and it evolved into a sandwich we know today!

2. CHEESECAKE
It didn’t come from New York though, it came from the Ancient Greeks.

3. FAJITAS
Texas did that. That’s it. That’s the post.

4. IKOKORE
This sweet delicacy came from the people of Ijebu, Ogun State in Nigeria. The food Ikokore is also called ifokore and it is made from isu ewura.

5. NKWOBI
Nkwobi came from the igbos, an ethnic group in Nigeria and it’s a meal that should be enjoyed at the end of a day’s job. Yummy.

6. AMALA
You guessed right... Amala is the next on the list and you know why? Because Amala and Gbegiri are always good together. This food was first cooked by Aduke Agbedegbeyo Omo Onile ire.

7. GBEGIRI
This soup is very cool and it came from Oyo state in Nigeria. Gbegiri was prepared for the first time by Anike Onibudo Omo Ajanlekoko. She cooked Gbegiri fr the first time in 1156 at Tonkere village in Ibadan west local government Of Oyo state.

8. PASTA
Pasta is truly an Italian cuisine but historians have a strong believe that pastas originated from Chinese noodles. There are people who say that Marco Polo, a traveler brought noodles back to Europe with him in the 14th century. After this, Italians recreated this delicious starchy food and added their own spin which resulted in spaghetti.

9. VINDALOO
Although it's a staple on most Indian restaurant menus, the vindaloo originated in Portugal.
So what other food do you know? Please, tell me. My next stop is to learn how to make these dishes and eat them.

6 date night outfit-inspos from Tiwa Savage, Toke Makinwa and Tacha —Dear Weekly Magazine

Yea, steal and grab their clothes, lol.

Go for the leather jacket like Tiwa or just go all black.

Who said strapless tops are out of fashion? Well, Tiwa’s outfit will change your mind.

Tacha’s red hot gown is the real deal. It will certainly look good on you if you’re planning to go to a restaurant.

Tacha looks stunning in this gown-shirt. This will be perfect for a dinner in a restaurant you just need to pair it with stilettos. If you’re going to an arcade with your partner, then put this on with some sneaks.

I’m not surprised I found myself lurking through Toke Makinwa’s page to find some stunning outfits. Tell me this white, lace gown isn’t fine, try it.

Toke Makinwa wore a crop top here and a nice skirt to go with it. Believe me when I say I would rather go for Tiwa Savage’s all black look but really, the red flowers on this cloth did some justice.

LiteratureThe Autobiography Of Lola Dideolu by sosa993(op): 9:13am On May 16, 2020
8:15 am

I don’t have a bucket list, but it’s all in my head. Engraved in my mind and they are: to avoid mom, confront Kim, avoid Dash, go to school, come back home and end it. Isn’t it funny though? For a girl who loves writing so much, why won’t I just write a list? For weeks upon weeks, all I’ve done was to write my story, bit by bit. From how it all started. It started with Demola.

My throat closes up like there’s a cotton ball stuffed in there and any moment, I know I’ll break down. Don’t cry. I try to still my trembling lips as I shove my journal into my backpack.

The tears drop and again, I'm crying. Can’t you just get a grip on yourself?! I’ve been crying too often these days. It’s why my eyelids are heavy, plus my almost lack of sleep. But how can I when the nightmares won't stop? One minute, I shut my eyes with tears streaming down my cheeks and—if I’m lucky to get any sleep—I find myself standing with Demola, my baby brother in the middle of a vast expanse of grassland. Most times, I beg him to hold my hand and come with me, but then he turns and disappears into thin air. Last night though, I held his cold, small hand and followed him.

It's a sign. You can ask the universe for all the signs, but ultimately, we see one when we are ready to see it. I have seen the sign, and it's time to join him.

Snif, snif. I swallow the lump in my throat as the pink, empty walls in my room bluI beneath my tears. The walls are blank now: Nicki's, B.O.B's, and a ton of movie posters on my walls are gone now. So are my pictures, shoes, and clothes—all gone! All packed into boxes. Empty. My eyelids flutter, and more tears fall. It's like something is right there, in my chest twisting over and over and I can't stop it. It's the type that doesn't just tug at your heart, but it sits there, waiting until the end.

I move to the mirror, sniffing and wiping the running snorts off my nose with the collar of my black, long-sleeve shirt. It stinks like sweat and weed. The odor is enough to make a non-smoker puke, but for me, it makes me feel better.

Researchers believe suicidal people care less about their looks, and maybe it's true, but I wear these clothes stinking baggy shirts to repel everyone and hide my scars. It's crazy how things change. Former Lola strives to look happy even if it means partying, drinking, smoking, and all sorts, but sad Lola is skinny with papery skin.

I sigh, pick my backpack on the bed, head out of the room. I try keeping my hands anywhere but my hair but I can't. So I run my hands over my kinky hair each step of the way then wipe my cheeks dry. Downstairs, my mom—-clad in her grey dress-uniform, an apron around the waist and hair packed in a neat bun--- is arranging the cutlery on the dining table. This means Mr. and Mrs. Carter will be out at any moment for coffee.

A weight settles on my heart when a spoon falls from her shaky hand, causing a loud clatter. I make a move to help her but stop when I remember the things she said last night: You're ungrateful.

Why should I be grateful—

"Yea," Dash’s voice floats into the dining area, always sounding like he has thick phlegm sticking in his throat. But you can't take one thing from him; everything about that guy is imposing. Even mom jumps before regaining her composure. "The locker. Yea, yea. Get it done." He speaks to someone on the other end of the call.

He doesn't regard my mom's presence. Dash regards no one.

I clench the straps of my backpack and tiptoe straight for the door and out into the warm morning. Dash mustn't see me. Last night, I did something I had never imagined doing—I walked out on him. He would have been thrilled beyond words if he saw me now. I can already guess what he would say to me in that irritating, taunting tone of his. "Heyyy, Lola." That voice sends chills through my bones every single time.

I hate him. I hate Dash so much I want to do something terrible... anything that stops him from breathing.

I quicken my pace through the tree-lined driveway and the ornate main gate and glance at the beige, stone, and brick mansion one last time. It's hard to keep going even though I can never get used to the lavishness that is everywhere in the Carters' house, this is my home too. This morning, I’m walking out of here but tonight things will be different for everyone, even for the Carters.

The almost-quietness in the neighborhood is deafening; I can only hear Mrs. Montgomery's heels clicking on the tarred road as she tries getting her two young boys into the vehicle.

They don't listen; they never do, no matter how much she screams. She’s a stoic kind of person who thinks everyone should bow to her wishes, but it surprises me her children never listen to her. Mrs. Montgomery visits Dash's mom once in a while, not because they like each other though (I’ve caught her glaring at Mrs. Carter before) but because they love gossip. It's what the rich people in Castle-way do when they aren't outside the country on vacation.

Mrs. Montgomery claps, snapping me out of my daze. "Get back here." She barks, storming towards the car door, but before opening it, a man driving white, moving-van punches the horn and stops before crushing her kids.

"Frank!” Mrs. Montgomery cries as a man wearing white washed jeans rushes out of the van. "Oh, God!" he says.

I'm frozen to a spot, and it takes every nerve in me to look away. I’m too dazed to do anything, not even to rush over and help the kids. It's too much for me. Seeing them brings back haunting memories, I’ve tried so hard to bury.

No. No. No. I swallow. You’ve got to forget it.

I can see Demola's face.

No. Stop thinking about him.

I close my eyes. Look away.

Demola’s lying in a pool of blood.

No. Just walk away.

It's your entire fault—

The blaring sound of a car horn jolts me out of the torturous memory. My shoulders stiffen when I remember it could be Dash, but on turning, I see Chase, Dash's twin brother, driving slowly next to me. My body slumps and a slight groan escape my mouth.

But then again, I tense. It’s Chase. He’s still a Carter. He shares a family with my nemesis, and no matter how much they hate each other's guts, Chase can never be my friend. Why doesn't he get this?

"The weather guy says it’ll rain today," he says, and on instinct, I look at the clear blue sky then frown at him. "So... you need a ride? Look, I know you won't answer me, but I won't leave you."

You sound like a stalker. I want to say to him rather, I say, “No, ” my voice is calm but firm.

I don’t need a ride, but will he ever stop trying? Doubt it. For two months now, ever since he found me crying, he's been trying so hard to play nice. Talk about being a coward. He waited until Dash and I was officially done.

Whatever his problem is, I don’t care, and he shouldn't too. It's not like he knows what my plans are, but if he doesn't stop knocking on my door, offering me a ride or sitting behind me in class, he may hinder everything

Chase rests his arm on the car door, plastering his face with a smile. "Please, get in. You know it's faster."

I cross my arms over my chest, watching him as he replaces his right hand on the steering then fingers his honey blonde hair. He doesn't hold it back with a rubber band this time. He lets his hair rumple down at the sides of his face, cupping his high cheekbones.

"Lola?"

"Go away, Chase," I scowl at him, clenching the straps of my backpack.

"C'mon, get in. I want to help," he says. "Pay me. I can be your taxi driver. So get in."

I hate it when someone tries to tell me what to do. It makes me feel worthless like a dummy that can’t think without someone's help. Maybe I’m a failure, but still... I hate the feeling of being controlled or restrained. It reminds me of everything. It reminds me of Dash.

A small wind swings the trees on the sidewalk and swirls the leaves on the floor. I keep my head down as tears threaten to fall again. Don't be a weakling. But Dash. I want you dead.

"Don't do this to yourself," Chase breathes hard. Is he mad? Oh no, he has no right to get mad at me. "Who prefers walking to getting a ride? I'm trying to help."

Chase is right. My gut keeps churning, and my legs are weak. Each step I take reminds me I'm fragile and hungry, but at the sight of food, my appetite disappears. Yea, I do need a ride, but I won't take any help from him.

"Thank you very much; I can walk."

Why does he suddenly want to be my friend? I’m just their maid’s daughter, and if we never left Nigeria for the United States, we would never have met. He’s way out of my league, the same with Dash, and if I had listened to my mom, maybe I won't be this broken.

"I tried," he grunts, and I don't have to look at his face to know what he's thinking or know how hurt he is. I expect him to speed past me, but he doesn't. Just go, Chase.

I’m about to pull out my earpiece and phone from my backpack when I spot Dash's red Jeep wrangler leaving their compound.

My blood turns chill.

I don’t know what I was expecting o? Okay, let me get it out, I applied for this job because I needed to work as an estate manager. Right? Isn’t that the normal thing?

Finish school and work and don’t forget, get married.

Wait, let me go back to how I got the job offer. I finished my service last year 2019 and it was pretty exciting for me to print out my cv and share it to offices.

And that’s what I did.

A week after finishing service, I took a bike and started roaming the streets of Ibadan to share my CV to people who could give me a job.

Fast forward to a month after or so, I got a call.

“Hello,” a calm voice came from the other end and the woman quickly introduced herself and told me she got my cv. “Would you be available for the interview today?”

Ehn? Why not, I said in my mind. “Yes ma.”

Luckily and unluckily for me, the venue for interview was pretty close to my house so it was pretty walkable.

Sharp sharp, I had my bath, got my low heels on, a nice pants and decent shirt.

In minutes, I got to the venue. Note: I don’t know if it’s weird to get to a venue for an interview too early. Does it make you look desperate? Well, I’m not a professional sha so I don’t know.

The woman told me to tell the gateman I’m asking for Mrs. R. That is the first letter of her name and she refers to herself as a property management guru. Lmao.

Anyway, she interviewed me late because she came about forty five minutes after I got to the venue.

So, she took my cv and read through it. Remember I already submitted my cv to her long before the interview.

“Your cv is useless to me?” She looked at me.

My jaw almost dropped on the floor. If she thinks my cv is useless shey I’m not useless like this?

She continued. “Why would you do your industrial training at the ministry of works? Why not an estate firm?”

What?!!! I was looking at this woman like, “what is wrong with her?”

I did my industrial training at the ministry of works in Akure, at the department of estate management so what the hell is the problem?

I didn’t know that moshenmu eyé bolapo ni. Ehehe. Meaning we were just getting started.

That one already drained all my confidence. Then we started the interview proper and then boom, she told me to mention all my lecturers’ name. I was happy o, because in my mind I was mentioning their names and the males were plenty on the list.

She asked why I mentioned mostly males. I knew exactly what she was driving at. In my mind, I’m saying this woman doesn’t know I usually sat at the back of the class back in school to avoid any lecturer’s attention. So she shouldn’t even have those crazy thoughts towards me.

I smiled. I do that sometimes when I’m angry but I know I can’t say a word.

So I kept smiling like an idiot then she said. “You didn’t mention the major name I wanted you to mention.”

Then went on to ramble about my inability to mention my lecturers’ names. “Woman, I have freaking mentioned their names!!!”

I didn’t dare say it to her face o. I said it in my head. Then she mentioned her name. “Dr. O.”

“I expected you to mention her name,” she ranted and ranted. But in my head, I know that woman but we all gave her a nickname back in school and I wasn’t about to say the nickname out loud. To cut the long story short, she knew some of my lecturers.

Then she asked for my gp and I said. “2. —”

She didn’t even allow me to finish o. I had second class lower and I’m proud of myself. I did this as a freaking loner back in school.

Then she went on to talk abut her disappointment in me because as a woman, I should know women weren’t common in the field blah blah blah.

She knew I was into writing and blogging. And so, she slammed me with it. She said I allowed blogging to take a space in my brain and now I might not be able to work as an estate manager. What she doesn’t know is this: even if I work for anyone; government o, private company o, I will always settle down later in life to be a writer.

She asked me why I served in Ibadan and said I must’ve “worked it.” Note that the story about my service year was a terrible one. So stay tuned for that.

She said I was spoilt. What really pissed me off the most is the fact that she called herself a property management guru. Smh. Who boasts that way?

6 Women Reveal What It’s Like Having Sex With A Micropenis — Dear Weekly Magazine

1. “It's so hard for me especially knowing how much I love him... I don't want to cheat on him but at the same time, I've been lying about our sex life. I love him so much. Back in school, he helped me raise half of my house rent (I used to live off-campus). He is perfect in many other ways except the sexual aspect. I'm certain his penis can't be more than three inches. the first time we had sex, I was very disappointed even though we did lots of pre-intimacy to cover up for it. My ex-boyfriend has been trying to come back and it's been tempting to go back or at least sleep with him behind my boyfriend."

2. “Any girl who says big d**k is overrated has definitely not had sex with a man with a tiny something. I had sex with one guy like that and I swear, it was disgusting. The annoying aspect of it all was the number of times we've flirted and the whole insinuations like he would shift my womb. Lol, I pity who will marry him. No be me sha."

What worsened the whole thing was that he even allowed me to pull down his shorts in the dark. I gave him head and it was as if I was licking stick sweet."

4. “I know some men will hate to hear this and as a woman, we are not allowed to make choices about sex. but come to think of it, shey men don't complain about small breasts? anyhow sha, I broke up with my boyfriend after two months. He is broke with an average face, tiny dick, empty pocket... everything na promises for his side."
