Fib and the Axe of fury to be in stores soon... Excerpt Chapter 1 She took my hand and placed something in my palm, which I knew were my glasses. I felt the lenses, and true to her words, they were broken. I groaned in frustration as my mother's insistent reminder flooded my mind: never take your glasses off outside the walls of our home. How the hell was I supposed to check the extent of the damage these people did to my glasses if I couldn't open my eyes? I blew three breaths and blinked. My eyes met with a blur that made me squeeze them shut again. Everything was a blur. “Mo?" I called, but no response returned, not even an annoying giggle. The noise from passengers laughing, talking, and walking had stopped. In fact, the entire station had gone silent. Where did everyone go? The air smelled different now, like fish and garlic. It was an odd combination, but a distinct upgrade from the stench of rotten beans. "Mo?" Again, no response. I swallowed hard. "It's not funny!" I tried to make my voice as strong as possible, because with a best friend like Mo, I couldn't be too sure she wasn't playing pranks on me. Slowly, I opened my eyes again. Thankfully, this time I caught a glimpse of a figure across the subway platform. A lump like an egg formed in my throat as I looked around the platform, trying to make sense of what was happening. Hazy white light and curls of smoky air obscured everything from view. The fluorescent lights on the roof flickered and buzzed. I glanced over my shoulder and saw a greenish-brown fog shaped like a human. The outline was dressed in a shredded black top that hung loosely from around its neck. The abeti aja cap covered most of its dark face, if you could call what it had a face, but I could still see two flaming, red orbs glowing from inside its sunken sockets. The functioning part of my brain urged me to run away, but my feet refused to move; it was as if they’d been glued to the floor.... *** Hope you liked it! 10 Stephen King One of the most sought-after out-of-print books is a violent early novel by Stephen King that he removed from print because he feared it influenced kids to shoot up their schools. Although King wrote the novel "Rage" when he was still in high school in 1965, he didn't publish it until a decade later after his other works found success. It first appeared as a paperback under King's pseudonym Richard Bachman in 1977 and then was published in 1985 in a collection of short novels, titled The Bachman Books. A few years ago, I discovered "Rage" when I bought the collection at a used book store. After realizing it was out of print, I learned the story of why King grew concerned about its circulation. "Rage" is about a psychologically troubled high school student who brings a gun to school, kills faculty members, and holds his Algebra class hostage. In a 2013 essay published as a Kindle Single, titled "Guns," King acknowledged he wrote the novel in a world very different from the present-day. "I suppose if it had been written today, and some high school English teacher had seen it, he would have rushed the manuscript to the guidance counselor and I would have found myself in therapy posthaste," King wrote. "But 1965 was a different world, one where you didn't have to take off your shoes before boarding a plane and there were no metal detectors at the entrances to high schools." However, the world started changing after King published the book. He asked his publishers to remove "Rage" from publication after the novel was linked to four real-life school shooting incidents: In April 1988, a California student held his high school humanities class hostage before backing out and telling police he got the idea from "Rage." In September 1989, a Kentucky 17-year-old held his classmates hostage for 9 hours in an apparent attempt to act out "Rage." In February 1996, a 14-year-old boy in Washington state who was apparently inspired by "Rage" shot and killed his algebra teacher and two classmates. In December 1997, a Kentucky 14-year-old fired on a prayer group at his school, killing three, while a copy of "Rage" was in his locker. |
I remember promising to post book two here but as it is, good things took over. My plan was to self publish my novel by June but I got a publishing deal which is freaking amazing. I'll no longer use this purple cover and my book is undergoing a thorough edit. ![]() For those of us who didn't get to read my novel when it was free here, there's a chance to order it either in hard copy or soft copy. As time goes on, I'll keep posting series of development done on my manuscript on this thread. Thanks for all your support. |
