African_queen:

It is not advisable. Your best friend should be your spouse the others should have their limits. Cos it through friends and family that the devil creep in marriages. One should be careful bout who to draw close to and how.

I like this, it is very true

You base it on d female aspect alone. So are you people saying its ok for guys to have best friends but not for ladies to? A wet kitty doesn't care bout a vow either.
I notice this too from the guys, maybe double standard?

So in a marriage, would you feel it's ok for your spouse to be best friends or close friends with someone of the opposite gender. Close personal friend NOT mutual friends with the both of you but their own friend whom they are in CONSTANT and DAILY talking and texting (late night texting included) and occasionally hanging out when their schedules permit? Would this be ok with you if it were you with a spouse who has this kind friendship/relationship or could this potentially lead to problems in the marriage?

Hey soserious, a few tips while learning Igbo are:

remeber, think like an Igbo when speaking it not like youre speaking English because thigns like adjective order and verb use come into place. For example in Igbo "ulo ukwu" meaning "big house" would result in "house big" if literally translated into English.

Another way is to live and work with native speakers so that you will understand the language naturally rather than memorization. With this in mind, Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I'm not often around any native speakers though.

Hi,
I'm looking for resources to strengthen my Igbo as I don't really speak it much in a number of years. Please direct me or it would be nice to have a live voice to practice it with me. I want to learn some Yoruba too but Igbo is my native tongue. Thx

The misinformation on this thread is breathtaking, though there have been a few informative answers.
This is not a cut and dried question - The consensus amongst enlightened nutritionists is that Milk does have some good properties, but they are far outweighed by the bad properties.

Milk has been subject to extreme hype and misinformation through the media. A general agreement is now forming that humans were not really desigend to ingest Cow milk. Remember, milk from any animal, is intended, and therefore biologically created, specifically for the young of that animal. In fact, humans are the only animals to ingest the milk of another species. Also, no adult animal delibrately seeks out milk to drink aprt from humans. To compound this further, most of the milk we drink is from intensively farmed animals an contain antiibotics, growth hormones, fat, cholesterol and allergenic proteins. All this lends to the hypothesis that milk is indeed bad for you.

Good properties -
- Milk contains proteins, and has a decent Biological Value (BV) - but its by no means the best. You can get better proteins from a multitude of other sources.
- Milk contains Calcium, which is more bio-available than other sources, but you can also get Calcium from green leafy vegetables. In fact,it is now common scientific knowledge that excess calcium from milk DOES cause Oesteoporosis
- Milk contains Vitamin D

Bad Properties
- Milk contain saturated animal fats - unless its skimmed or semi-skimmed. Excess fat consumption can cause Heart Disease and High Blood Pressure
- Pasteurised Milk contain antibiotics, Oestrogen precursors, Growth Hormones(BGH) , etc. All these are given to the cows to help them grow quicker, produce more milk, and combat infections. Unfortunately, when we ingest the milk, we also ingest these compounds. This has has been attributed as the number one cause in increased pre-pubescent maturity/early onset maturity of children in Western societies ,and increased tolerance and resistance to antibiotics. It has also been lined to certain cancers.
- Milk consumption promotes mucus formation in the body - if you drink a lot of milk, you will surely have this problem
- Milk consumption promotes an "acidic" state in the body. This has been shown to increase the incidence of cancers, allergies and general unhealthiness.
- Pasteurised milk has lost most of its enzymes, vitamins and trace elements.
- Intensively farmed cows(that produce the milk we drink) are fed high protein and soy/corn based meals. This makes their milk/meat high in Omega 6 Fatty acids. Excessive consumption can lead to cardio-vascular disease and also depression in some individuals.
- Milk is a leading cause of Ear Infections in infants and babies
- Most infants are allergic to Cow Milk Proteins (this is not the same as Lactose Intolerance)

westernization i guess.

but hey--some nigerians dont's promote the culture. how about nigerians abroad? the only thing most kids abroad know about 9ja culture is party party party--going from one convention party to the next.

look at some of these francophone countries like senegal. their govt is so involved with promoting its culture with a national sengalese dance troupe that performs all over the world. same with south africa. nigerian govt needs to promote the culture worldwide.

nollywood was doing a good job but why do the characters in these movies now have names like David Williams and Lisa Johson-- Lisa Johnson from Anambra??

This is so true and the last bolded part had me LMAO!!
