Kunle Falayi A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Bak-Abasi Umoh, who went missing for 10 days in the state, has been found. Her mother told our correspondent over the phone that she returned to Ile-Ife, Osun State on Tuesday, December 22. “She told us she was robbed of her phone and all the money she had,” her mother, Elizabeth, explained. The girl’s mother said she was thankful that no harm had come to her daughter after being incommunicado for 10 days. Saturday PUNCH learnt that when her family in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, could not reach her on the phone, they called her school friends, who said the last time they saw her on campus was on December 12. As of the time our correspondent spoke with Bak-Abasi’s mother on Wednesday, she said her daughter was already on her way back home from Ile-Ife. Her parents have been tight-lipped about the details of what really happened to her and where she was for those 10 days. It would be recalled that when Bak-Abasi, said to be a Law student of OAU, was declared missing a week ago, her pictures circulated on the internet as her classmates and friends pleaded for information that might help in locating her. Meanwhile, the Law students’ association of OAU said it has no evidence that she is a member of the department. According to the President of the Law Student Society, OAU, said in a post on Facebook, “The news about this lost lady has been a subject of concern for Ife Law students as she claimed to be part of us but all evidence shows she is not. “Our concern was only that a Nigerian was lost and needed to be found rather than a Law student. I salute the effort of the entirety of the law students for the love and concern in the search.” www.punchng.com/missing-oau-law-student-found-after-10-days/

BALLOSKI:Thanks so bro. I appreciate! |
I experience nervousness whenever I find myself among people especially those that I am not familiar with. I sometimes end up with a shaky mouth whenever I want to speak. This has been happening to me for the past 4 years but it seems to have graduated to something else. A bit of encounter with even one person is enough to keep nervousness in me for the whole day. After a hectic day at work with tiredness, a normal body is expected to have a sound sleep. Mine is different. If I manage to sleep around 11pm, my eyes would be wide ope around 2-3am. I have done all I could to change the situation but all my effort have been met with futility. Little things now put a long lasting fear in me. I am afraid I may lose my life anytime soon if my condition is not changed. I was told by a friend that it could be General Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Pls, is there anybody with useful tips that can change my condition? Thanks in anticipation! |

Vice President Osinbajo, Here’s A List Of Outstanding Youths In Nigeria (1) Igboeli Arinze — Oct 19, 2015 2:49 am | Leave a comment Following the submission and unveiling of President Muhammadu Buhari’s two ministerial lists to the Senate, Nigerians have largely been at a crossroads on whether the proposed cabinet meets the change agenda of President Buhari. Truth be told, the 37 man cabinet list has a number of proven technocrats, public servants and integrity driven politicians to give Nigeria the desired change its citizens crave for and any criticism on the #List based on the issue of competence and integrity is self serving and quite immature. However, one thing is wrong with the list and it is in the fact that in the names submitted, President Buhari did not find it fit to appoint a couple of youths as ministers. As a matter of fact the youngest member of the cabinet, Abubakar Malami is two years away from clocking 50! My grievance with President Buhari is that he seems to have forgotten that the awareness and the votes that gave him victory at the last polls came majorly from the youths who engaged the shambolic administration of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and showed Nigerians that he, Buhari was a far better leader than Jonathan. For me, President Buhari’s refusal to appoint a youth as a Minister is an attestation to the continuous marginalization of the Nigerian youth, not because we are not qualified or fit for such, but because the Nigerian elite have so conspired amongst themselves to keep the Nigerian youth out of the picture. But my grievance was further aggravated when a tweet from the twitter handle of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo read as thus, “That we could not find some outstanding Nigerian youths to form cabinet is a challenge to the Nigerian youth to brace up #MinisterialScreening.” The tweet instantly drew condemnation as a number of Nigerians online picketed the Vice President describing his tweet as outrageous. I for one deem such a tweet as irresponsible and unbecoming of Professor Osinbajo, a man I had known and admired as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God before his emergence as VP. The tweet was most unfortunate as yours sincerely is surely confounded by Osinbajo’s logic that in a country as big as Nigeria, with a youth population of over 60,000,000 million persons, we could not get a youth as minister. It is therefore my purpose to assist Vice President Osinbajo by throwing up a list of outstanding Nigerian youths for his consideration. Sometime in 2013, I remember asking my SS 3 students the professions they will like to venture into. I was astonished when one of them mentioned 'Teaching'. The inquisitive part of me posed another question to her as to why she would like to venture into teaching profession considering the fact that the profession has been bastardized. Her simple response was " Impacting knowledge in people is what gives me joy and it is exactly what I will like to do". The prospective teacher was not only a brilliant student but one of the best in her class. As expected, I encouraged her. It is unimaginable what the noble profession has been reduced to especially in this part of the world. There is no gainsaying the fact that most people teach because its the only thing they can lay their hands on. The question you ask yourself at this point is ' where have we gotten it wrong?' This piece is not to answer that question but to salute the courage of those that have taken it upon themselves to train and develop young people to become responsible adults despite the harsh conditions inherent in the profession. Needless to say that being a teacher is very demanding. The herculean task of writing lesson notes, the rudiments of impacting difficult concepts in learners with varying learning abilities (fast learners, average learners, slow learners and extremely low learners). But at the end of the month, his salary is not even enough to pay his bills. His reward is in heaven abi? While a lawyer rides in the latest car, a medical doctor can afford to travel to any part of the world for his vacation, an engineer can afford to build a mansion.... What then happens to a teacher? He grapples with debt? What could lawyers, doctors, engineers, pilots, pharmacists, accountants, public administrators, political scientists, linguists etc have become without a set of people called teachers? As the world celebrates teachers today, take time to appreciate your teachers. Remember, you can read this post because somebody somewhere has sacrificed a lot for you! God bless you as you do so!!!! |
