obowunmi:Huh? Did you really mean that (in bold)? You only see that kind of stuff in those "Success" books. Most futures are shaped by parents/environment/circumstances surrounding or arising. The determination to succeed helps you to break free or fight against the circumstances you are in but still you need that "lucky break" and or a nudge/support from (either parents/relatives/friends or even a stranger). Though (as I pointed out in my earlier post) there are things the OP has to improve on (which he himself even highlighted & acknowledged). Please, don't go knocking someone that is already down further so, a little bit of hope keeps us moving. @OP - just be proactive and tactful in enlisting the help of your parents (in my prior post) as they are already placed in a better position to make any hardwork or the plans/ideas you possess to work (than going alone/relying on friends). You just have to win them over. |
This is Nigeria not some developed country for goodness sake. Why are people comparing things relatively while fully aware everybody's case is different, (i.e some saying those that are orphans are getting by, God kept his father alive for a reason; Or those equating him to themselves i.e they stopped receiving/asking for money at NYSC stage, how so? Answer - must be because you found a glimmer of hope on how to survive and having been in Naija throughout, know your way around while maybe already having some spare change to hang on to while waiting or it might be that your parents/sponsors were struggling hence no option.----All this does not apply to the OP, his father is blessed with riches and for a purpose which doesn't include exclusively, only himself as he chose to bring people into his life & this world - family. As a parent you're responsible for your kids till they are able to fend for themselves and in this case I don't think it is yet so. @Dayo- what is the privilege in sending him abroad at such a young age with no real plans for him and then washing your hands off. Puhlease! You spend all the money on education (as a rich man) and allow him to come back to Nigeria of all places after all those years with no plans/support!! Been sent to a new country and having to face a new culture and no protection/guidance etc is tough enough for an adult not to talk of a 16yr old more susceptible to influences? Why didn't the Dad advice him to find a way to stay put where he was or move to another place where opportunities are as he(Dad) knows he is not willing to give him the support and guidance he needs to start up again in Nigeria? I believe the most important duty for a parent is GUIDANCE and ADVICE Not to write an epistle----- Do you start a business, after investing years of planning/money etc and then quit prior to making any revenue? That is the case and what some are advocating on here. Finish the investment you have started and done as a father by making sure you tried hard(advice, capital, connections etc) to make your investment start receiving some revenue then surely sooner or later it will yield dividends for you (we all hope to get old and I bet it won't be your business partners/friends/concubines that will be there for you, nothing like an empowered family anyday for me). @ OP Go out of your way to please them, wake up early in the morning, wash the cars, sweep, organize etc. Ask Dad if he needs help to get anything done. Just be doing good stuffs in the house and wait. In a month or two, approach your Dad and ask him for advice on how to make it here in Nigeria as there are hardly no jobs and difficult to secure one, hence you will appreciate it if he can PLEASE help you. |
@OP, thumbs up for sharing information, no mind KOBO, na so im dey do, trying to show off and of course hoping to stir up senseless arguments to pass time. Hope the project will be completed in a timely fashion, though and the trains will be modern ones, Happy at least something (no matter who (FG, State or local) and how small) dey work. |
Or maybe she's trying to nudge you to the next level, She's had enough of relationships, hence it is getting boring(same o'l same) hoping you take it to the next level - marriage (a new exciting experience/prospect and most/some girls ultimate relationship goal) Dude, girls have different styles of hinting on what they want without ever saying it (as she obviously can't in this case) |
@Nayah Thank goodness you said "Really subjective for me" The portion of my quote you highlighted is my own personal opinion and conclusion so far from my own little experiences and research, guessing you didn't see my disclaimer Also I never mentioned anything about beauty lasting longer be it white or black. That is simply because I have no strong convictions on that and don't want to really go into that as I know all beauty fades with time (black or white; male or female). Though you have a point cos I have had numerous white dudes and girls say "Black don't crack" Still re-iterating, more beautiful or not; ugly or most ugly; attitude or none; as for marriage, a black girl for me all the time ~(my personal opinion and conclusion) |
8 out of 10 white girls are beautiful, while 4 out of 10 black girls are beautiful ~(research conducted by my eyes and on a small sample size of a few North American cities). There are more beautiful white girls from my personal research than blacks but putting the most beautiful white girl and the most beautiful black girl up for comparison, I am confident the black girl will win unchallenged As an African born man, coming to the West, of course most of them will be curious to experiment, taste or sample what is not readily available where they came from. Apart from the struggle for papers and social status, I find it hard imagining an African born and brought up man marrrying a white woman (only in the very few exceptional cases of true love which is very very hard to find). Having said this, as for me, you won't find me dead marrying a white woman. Fun and casual relationships, Yes, Marriage NO!!. Marriage is not about beauty(loses its shine with time) but more about compatibility, tolerance and compromise. My Black (preferably African) Babes all the way for marriage as we have more things in common and less things to change or compromise on. |
@all, please kindly disregard and ignore Kobojunkie, she is not here for any rational discussion, enligtenment or constructive argument. @Kobojunkie, once again you did a good job of leading them on, thinking you have anything to contribute apart from asking questions, having them answered then evading the answers or any questions asked meanwhile following it up with new questions; all without ever offerring or backing up a single claim of yours. Guess you didn't record your CNN, FOX NEWS AND ABC brain-washing sessions. Hope to see you attacking me when next you get on here to unwind and chill, enjoy and have fun at it(my free gift to you)! |
Joagbaje:@Joagbaje, you are missing the point, the OP kept on emphasizing that it is not all but some "pastors" are all out for business and profit. The original poster even admonished, "PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP ON JESUS", and for me that is the greatest thing we should ascribe to by been Christ like people hence following the life and words of Christ which is in the new testament (Bible). It is all good and dandy to use and have tapes and books to help motivate but the trend I see now is that many Christians rely solely on the tapes and books of their pastors forgetting the HOLY BIBLE (which is even the basis of the existence of the church, pastor and your going there). So the original poster never condemned that but specifically said that if it is so much more than the cost of production and also if you're been compelled to buy it as a sign of loyalty or whatever, then it ain't good or adviceable to do so (especially as in most cases, the proceeds does not go to the church but regarded as the author's (which in this case the Pastor) revenue). If you read the HOLY BOOK - THE BIBLE, you should know it is found and written everywhere that we should watch and pray, cos in the end times there will be many false prophets and doctrines, hence exactly what the OP is enlightening(not compelling) you on doing. We need as christians, to familiarize ourselves with the Bible, works and words of Christ, emulating it especially the NEW TESTAMENT which is the extension of grace to all, not relying heavily on been spoonfed (might get unknowingly fed the wrong diet or dose, lol). Even in the Bible, we are admonished to "TEST". We (Christians) should not get all defensive everytime there is an article pointing out some irregularities or educating on ways that can help discern "Men of God/ Pastors" who put material things (wealth) above the message of God they purport to preach and propagate because it is written, that "not all who call me by Name (Jesus) is from or for me". |
@kodewrita, Nigeria is next for your so called emancipation by the west but in this case not dictatorship, probably the excuse will be terrorism (just like Iraq). Hope all you Nigerians are getting ready, CIA boots are already on ground in Nigeria now. Have you wondered why the United Nations Building was the one bombed, not US or even Nigerian government buildings. That is to invite the US in a subtle way and that has already been accomplished. For all I know, the war in Libya is not a revolution but Divide and Rule. Nigeria can be next in that we have rebels too - MEND (the ones we can see) and Boko Haram (the invisible ones sponsored by ??). When the west decides it is in their best interest or the Nigerian government doesn't dance accordingly, then be sure we will be hearing about REBELS but rather in the vein of either NIGERIANS RISING UP or NIGERIA HAS BECOME A THREAT TO THE WORLD BY BEING A TRAINING GROUND FOR TERRORISM. Anyway this war against a legitimate Libyan state is a warning to all African leaders and states to Obey. Also, I bet as he is out of the way, the US will get their long wanted wish for a permanent Military base in Africa which Gaddafi has been a party in opposing all this while. @Kodewrita, hope you will be saying thank you to the World police when Nigeria is destabilized too or rather NOTE - Tunisia and Egypt had a real revolution, by the masses (NOT Heavily armed and funded rebels) without lifting up or firing a shot. But I guess OIL ain't there or in Yemen, Syria, Sudan etc |

@Charlie, Would have been on same flight. Mine is KLM on the 31st. Hope you are keeping an eye on flight cancellations due to the weather. Pray that wont be any of our portion. Sent you a mail. |
@guddylover, Yes, you can do the visa thing very much by yourself. Going through this thread and packaging your documentation with prayers is all you need. Sent my add across. @ Charlie Thanks for the congratulations. Seems you have a large heart, love your kind (always willing to help). Going to Uni Windsor, Ontario.Yours? You've booked your flight? Can see you are an engineering colleague. |
Cavad4real:@cavad4real, if its visa application forms then I subscribe to Charlie193's above advice but as it is school admission, you can say yes (gives the school the mandate that your brother can act on your behalf) which comes in handy in following up your application and its status. |
@ Lanreade Where are you heading to (Uni)? @ all Anybody going to Windsor this Winter 2011? |
@guddylover, Sorry for the belated response. Been running around in preparation. I think Charlie has addressed your questions. Go with Maple if you have the money to spare, but the main thing is your documentation, packaging then prayers. You shall have success. God bless |
@MARCELO Just keep praying, your visa is on the way. My own case was, I did Medicals in the last week of October, with no response for more than 5 weeks. Had to send them mail and 3 days after the mail I sent, the called me for an interview. It was just a small thing which the wanted to clear up that was holding up my stuff. Got it that day (3days ago) after the interview. So all is good. Just send them a mail, pray, believe and we will be hearing the good news from you here soon. |
WHAOH!! GOD BE PRAISED! The Lord has done it for me. I got my Student visa after my interview today at CDHC. Jehovah I thank you. Am so happy. Prayer and fasting for almost 3 months, who said God doesnt answer prayers. To God be all the glory. Windsor here I come. |
I got an invitation for interview on the 14th. Please what kind of questions should I expect? Any info on the interview process or format will be highly appreciated. Thanks @harry - "Out of Office Reply" is an automated email reply for mails entering after office hours, Thanks |
