Mine is just a similar case. All I could remember was that I was being thrown up by the stream, my memory was hazzy as I was almost at the verge of journeying to the world beyond. The stream I'm talking about was a very deadly one, people hardly went there alone; they do go in droves. I witnessed countless scenes of a bottle of Fanta probably used as a sacrifice there refusing to break after using even a hammer to try a breaking it on few attempts.
How my neighbour managed to surface there at that point in time still baffles me. The hour was awkward and people hardly visit the stream by then.
I'm still grateful to him till date; I never fail to pay homage each time I step into the village.

Drowning has got to be one of the saddest way to exit this world.
Imagine gasping for breathe with no help forth coming. I was nearly drowned when I was 10 years old but was lucky an older neighbour rescued me that afternoon from the deadly stream.
The thought of that still terrifies me, I fear water to high heavens. Anything that makes me accept to cross a body of water must be very serious, it must be a matter of life or death.

Had same experience at 10.
We travelled to the village for an
Uncle's burial.
On a particular day i went to the
Village stream to fetch water alone
And it was not the usual morning
Stream rush hour but around 11, 12
When everybody had left the stream.
It was also during rainy season when
The stream was slippery.
I didn't factor all this b4 coming
To the stream cause i was from
The city.
As i stepped inside the stream i lost
Balance and started drowning.
My saving grace were two boys that
Were swimming nearby.
If they were spirits or humans i
Have no idea cause that time was odd
As i was told later.
When they had finished laughing me
To scorn, they now came to my rescue.

I will live long as i no die that day.
