You guys should be calming down I and don't give yourselves unnecessary pressure, the TEF training officially starts on 3rd next month. The message you got to join a session was just seminar or awareness talk, I got the message too but I didn't attend, in fact I have never attended any of their seminar invites I got on my mail... me I was just patiently waiting for the training and now that it's here lets connect to help and learn from ourselves.

You can login to your tefconnect and connect with more Nigerian participants, or at least click on any of their profile and copy their number then start a chat on WhatsApp.

Hi guys. Things to consider for the Tony Elumelu Foundation
1. Be fluent in speaking
2. Know your product well
3. Have a proper pitch deck show casing your product
4. Do a summary video of your product not more than 3mins in video
5. Do a business plan for your product and have it ready (They might not need it)
6. Ensure to have at least one member of your team on ground
7. If you can do a brand (Tshirt of Cap) ensure to wear it during your pitch or video
8. Know your financial analysis well and ensure your business is able to make profit

I guess this could be kick starter for you.

Am here for further questioning. God bless you
how do you do all this for a startup

I don't know the reasons why you want to learn programming. But I think for most people, they learn because they want to make a career out of it. So, on that note, I'll try to answer your question:

Yes, one can learn different things together, but it's highly undesirable and won't help you go far.

Programming is a problem solving technique used in many different Fields (such as: Mobile, Web, Systems, Development. Etc.). The major element of PROGRAMMING is a programming language like Python you have mentioned. Python it self can be be applicable to solve problems in many different Fields.

Now, a company will want to hire you because you can solve problems for them. The more challenges you prove to them you can solve, the more likely they'll want to employ you. And you want to do that within the shortest amount of time possible. Now, these areas like Web and mobile are very wide and you'll never be able to know everything about any one of them even if you study for 100 years. Imagine moving from one place to another every single week? That is not the most effective and efficient use of your time and efforts.

Instead, pick one and stick to it until you master it and get a paying job. From there, you'll be able to make informed decisions because your wisdom is broader. I'll advise you pick web development first since it has more jobs on the market than Mobile development.

As for the materials, you can learn everything easily on the web for free. The only thing is that you just have to look for learn resources yourself and put them together to form a comprehensive knowledge base. You can go on a site like Udemy and pay for a video course if you think you can learn better that way.

Good luck on your journey.
thanks.i already started with web dev like you suggested and im doing it in a school like setting. i hope to delve into python soon when im done with web dev .

For web development and regular coding and script , plugin coding

What you need in 2020

Wide screen :
Infact when I see programmers saying ram , graphics etc I keep laughing in 2020 you need at lest 15.6 screen size that's the smalleat for programming
When you do web programming u will understand why u need wider screen

Keyboard :
You need keyboard which is upto 102 to 106 keys and such keyboard is what we called standard keyboard they are those keyboard that has number keys popularly known as num pads
Standard laptop keyboard sucks at programming , also international layout keyboard sucks go for us layout keyboard

Battery or power backup :
You need stable battery or power supply coz on pc 10 hours equals to 1hour when u dey code

Ram : 4GB minimum
Graphics :
This is where people gets confuse

If are going for amd :
Total system video memory should be : 2024mb and up
Dedicated : 128mb minimum

For Intel : 1600mb and up
Dedicated : 64mb minimum

For nvidia : 1800mb
Dedicated : 128mb minimum

Processor :
Make sure you are buying system that is amd64 which is the standard x64

Make sure your processor supports hyper threading And turbo boost

Anyway I can't just remember clearly which of the name the two processor use for the boost technology

Make sure your processor clock is up to 2.0Ghz both intel and amd

Dual core with two virtual processor or better
Something like i3,i5,i7

Amd x4,A6 , k8 etc are all good even legendary x2 amd will serve well for web programming

Operating system :
1. Linux - ubuntu
2.Windows
3.Mac os
I know Mac people will come for me but before you come for me , I have code on all this three operating system Mac native os sucks at programming , window is supposed to be first but Linux is distraction free than Windows

For easy set up window os , linux then Mac os

For storage :
Forget all this hype about big data 120gb is ok

If you have the money go for ssd , hdd dey cast most time

Then a working brain na must
lol @ a working brain but is true cause all this specifications cannot work on a dead grey matter

can one learn different programming languages eg python, web programming, mobile app dev and some others at same time without getting it mixed up or are they intertwined

How long does one has to program or how many softwares does one has to build to be called a programmer? This a question beginners need an answer to. They want to know when they should start applying for job as programmers. I will answer this question based on my accumulated experience so far in this field. When can you start telling yourself, your friends and family that you are a programmer? Do you need to show them the web application or mobile application that you have built? Of course, faith without work as they say, is dead, you really need something to show. But when we examine carefully what tech companies look for in an interview, we can see that their view on who a programmer is, is different from this general conception . Let's consider these two, the same thing applies to all tech companies including Amazon, Facebook, Apple, Dropbox etc

Job Interviews at Google

100% of the questions at job interviews for software engineers at Google, Zurich, are about data structures, algorithms and algorithmic thinking. At such an interview you may have to implement on a white board a linked list or come up with an algorithm for filling a raster polygon (given in the form of a GIF image) with some sort of color using for example BFS(Breadth-first search). It seems like Google are interested in hiring people who can think algorithmically and who have a grasp of basic data structures and computer algorithms. Any technology that candidates would afterwards use in their line of work can be quickly learned.

Job Interviews at Microsoft
A lot of questions at job interviews for software engineers at Microsoft, Dublin, focus on data structures, algorithms and algorithmic thinking. For example, you could be asked to reverse the words in a string or to implement topological sorting in an undirected graph. Unlike Google, Microsoft asks a lot of engineering questions related to software architectures, multithreading, writing secure code, working with large amounts of data and software testing.

With these two, we came to a conclusion. One becomes a programmer when he has a solid grasp of algorithms and data structures. This is what being a programmer means, being able to command a computer what you want it to do through your code. Whatever technology you will use can easily be learnt once you grasp concept.

As improbable as it might seem to you, the basic principles of writing computer programs have not changed all that much in the past 15 years. Programming languages change, technologies get modernized, integrated development environments get more and more advanced but the fundamental principles of programming remain the same. When beginners learn to think algorithmically, and then learn to divide a problem instinctively into a series of steps to solve it, as well as when they learn to select the appropriate data structures and write high-quality programming code that is when they become programmers. Once you acquire these skills, you can easily learn new languages and various technologies – like Web programming, HTML5 and JavaScript, mobile development, databases and SQL, XML, REST, ASP.NET, Java EE, Python, Ruby and hundreds more.
i already started off on web programming and mobile app dev.does it mean this ones are not in high demand?
Programming / Re: Which School To Best Apply For Computer Science In Nigeria. by Sososo(f): 11:57pm On Mar 01, 2021
enyichiA:
Who said you need a computer Science degree.

You don't need it for anything

At this point in software development, job postings do not require you to have a degree in anything

Even some people that work for Google don't have degrees

You don't need to waste money sitting for waec or neco or read chemistry and physics.

Just make sure you get very goooood at programming and opportunities would come your way

Computer Science degrees are trash in Nigerian schools anyway. You'll never remember what you were taught after writing the exams.

That's 'cause the lecturers teach you so you can pass their courses. Full stop.

I'll suggest you study something else you're interested in (business, arts, English) if at all you feel you need to go to the university

PS: Incase someone thinks I don't know what I'm saying, I'm a programmer, also a student of UNN studying computer Science and Statistics. So I know how the university system operates, as it relates software developers.

Provided that you have a laptop of at least 4gb and data

Firstly: Download Android Studio and the sdk,
And install it,
Then you can now head over to YouTube where you'll surely spend lots of time, first learn Java or Kotlin, Java is preferable by me, after learning Java and Java OOP.

Secondly on YouTube search for mobile development course and tag along, it's gonna take a long time, but try building apps, so you'll learn faster, things might look bulky at first, just chill Google, Google and Google you'll surely also have gradle issues once in a while just Google.
"Codinginflow(.)com" and coding with mitch are part of the YouTube channels to learn about mobile dev....

Since you are in Lagos search for Facebook developers circle on Facebook, join them is android studio same with visual studio? were can one download it.? is the studio up to 5gb?
Or Join Any Developers Student Club (DSC) in your school or locale, or GDG Google Developers Group or so...
