– Fani Kayode is to remain in EFCC custody for about 21 days

Chief Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi (Mrs) of an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court, today, May 23, granted a remand application brought before her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC seeking to remand Mr. Femi Fani Kayode on alleged N1.4 bn fraud.


Fani Kayode to be further remended in EFCC custody

Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi granted the remand application after listened to the argument of lawyer representing the anti-graft agency, Mr. A. N. Anana and Faki Kayode’s lawyer, Wale Balogun.

The EFCC had argued that the remand application which was pursuant to section 261 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2011, of Lagos State, was to remand the former  spokesman for the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in the 2015 general election, pending when he will be properly arraigned at the appropriate Court.

However in opposition to the EFCC’s remand application, Fani Kayode’s lawyer, Balogun argued that the anti-graft application is move was to breach his constitutional rights, adding that the defendant had being granted an administrative bail by the EFCC but was never allow to perfect such.

He also informed the court the anti-graft agency had gotten the same order of remand before an Abuja Chief Magistrate court.

He therefore urged the court to disregard the EFCC’s remand application against his client.But Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi while dismissing Kayode’s application ruled that he failed to exhibit any document before the court to show that the former Minister of Aviation has been charged before any court for the alleged offence.

Consequently, She ordered that Fani Kayode be remanded at the EFCC’s custody for 21 days pending when he will be arraigned at the appropriate court.

Fani Kayode who was brought to court in white caftan and a pair of rubber slippers, was driven away in a white Hiace Bus marked Abuja BWR 641 GA, after the remand order .

Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced an undergraduate of Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University, Malaysia, Hope Olusegun Aroke to 24 years imprisonment for his involvement in an internet scam that fetched him Four Thousand riaait (N25million)

A statement from the antigraft agency, EFCC, states that 25 year old Aroke, was arraigned before Justice Okunnu on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence; cheque cloning, wire transfer and forgery. The court found him guilty of the two charges and was sentenced to twelve years imprisonment on each of the two counts.
Aroke was arrested when an anonymous petitioner wrote to the EFCC alleging that the Kogi state-born undergraduate was involved in sundry fraudulent activities on the internet. The EFCC swung into action and investigated the internet dealings of Aroke.
Investigations showed that he was involved in several romance scam that fetched him a total sum of 4,000 riaait (Malaysian currency). Aroke admitted sending the money to Nigeria through one Angela, who later helped him deposit its naira equivalent, N25, 000,00( Twenty-five million Naira only), in a new generation bank.
Upon his arrest, two exotic cars valued at N23,000,000( Twenty-three million naira) were recovered from him. Justice Okunnu ruled that the sentence should run concurrently. Meanwhile, Aroke has two other matters yet undecided before Justice B. Idris of the Federal High Court Lagos.
