A consolatory article for every struggling Nigerian(zombies and wailers inclusive) D; No light, no water, no fuel, no food, no no no is the chorus sang all over the country at present. No doubt that times are really hard, but every man who sees beyond his nose can see a silver lining in the cloudy future. The hope that keeps a pregnant woman going, is knowing for sure that the pains will be over after a period of time. This hope is what keeps her alive, strong and up and doing. After more than 50 years as an independent nation, 3 republics past and 16 years wasted in an uninterrupted democracy, Nigerians for the first time elected a leader that didn't emerge by chance- but by a conscious attempt to being the president of the country. According to history, no Nigerian leader had emerged from a conscious preparation to being a president except President Buhari. Sir Abubakar Tafawa balewa the first and only prime minister of Nigeria never dreamt or prepared to lead Nigeria when he did, it was a chance provided by the great Sir Ahmadu Bellow the Sardauna of Sokoto who had every chance to become the prime minister but rejected, and sent his deputy at party level to fill in that space. Alhaji Shahu Shagari became president after Obasonjo willingly relinquished power to a democratically elected president. Then, he was vying for a senatorial seat but the calculation changed and he found himself on the presidential seat, the rest is now history. Ernest Shonikan came into power only to fill a vacuum created by the annulment of the June 12, 1992 elections by the them military president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's prison to president miracle is a well known story, and how he literarily dragged the unwilling and ill Umaru Musa Yar'dua to presidency is also a well known story. Sooner than we all thought, Goodluck Jonathan became a child of necessity- this necessitated his emergence as president of our country without ever preparing for the challenge of being a president. It took him almost his entire tenure to learn the act of being a president. Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Gen. Murtala Muhammed, Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Gen. Sani Abacha and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar were all "accidental public servants". Only President Buhari came to power with a conscious attempt to becoming a president. He had plans with a task to building the country from scratch, by firstly identify the menace in the system and deal with it head on. In every system, there is a critical sector that when fixed, other sectors will automatically fix themselves. In the case of Nigeria, this critical sector is corruption. Corruption is a lucrative sector in our system that is responsible for almost all ills and when fixed, insecurity will fix itself, unemployment will do same, power failure will exist only in history books, brain drain will turn the other way round, foreign investor and tourist will find home in Nigeria, and a lot more too many to mention. Isaac Newton's 3rd law of motion states "to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" this law explains the hardship Nigerians are faced with today. The action of President Buhari in fighting corruption provokes the reaction of the corrupt to fight back with equal if not more powerful reaction. They are fighting back with their lives. This reaction is responsible for the hardship we are faced with today, but with little more time, am sure they will be defeated because they are the treacherous enemies of the state. Buhari acted by implementing TSA, being a major step to plugging leakages, they reacted by changing their monies to dollars and starching them in suck ways, farms and villages. This resulted in the scarcity of dollar and the free fall of Naira in the parallel market. Buhari acted by reducing pump price by 50k and removing the controversial fuel subsidy, they reacted by creating an artificial scarcity, just to get back to the president with the people's anger. Buhari acted by producing an unprecedented budget with higher capital expenditure, which gives hopes for better days, but they swiftly reacted by paddling the budget, trying to ridicule the government at the detriment of the masses resulting to delaying the passage of the budget. Without a passed budget, it is always difficult to pay salaries let alone do anything significant. Buhari acted by "unbundling" NNPC into 7 units for transparency and accountability, they reacted by cutting off fuel supply chains to power stations, throwing the whole country into darkness for days. They will always follow the Newton's law, in an effort to bring back corruption while we will always be at the offensive to stamp out corruption. A little more patience is just what is needed... There is light at D end of d tunnel.. |

Fall In Value Of Naira: Ben Bruce Blasts Nigerians We're to Be Blamed, Not Buhari Senator Ben Murray-Bruce is bruised and this time he wants you guys to see how far he has gone to GrowTheNaira. He thinks we are fooling ourselves by blaming the government for our woes. See His CommonSense rants below: Many Nigerians are complaining about the constant fall in the value of the Naira and they blame the Government. But is the government really to blame? In truth, our insatiable appetite for all things foreign is to blame. I always fly Arik Business Class whenever I am traveling abroad except Arik does not fly on that route. Not only is an Arik ticket a fraction of the cost of a British Airways ticket, but the money I pay to Arik circulates in Nigeria and helps firm up the Naira’s value. As I speak to you today, a British Airways Business to London is ₦2,103,666 while Arik Business is ₦551,545 yet our elite still fly BA But though Arik offers an affordable alternative to British Airways and other foreign airlines, our big men prefer to pay double what Arik charges to BA and other foreign airlines for the same services and yet they complain about the value of the Naira. I have Nasco cornflakes and I have eaten Kellogs cornflakes. In terms of nutrition and taste they are almost indistinguishable. Yet our elite who will rather eat Kellogs than Nasco cornflakes, wonder why the Naira is falling! Even something like Quaker Oats can be substituted with corn meal known locally as pap. Obasanjo Farms of Nigeria and other large scale poultry farms have the capacity to provide chicken for the entire nation. Since that is the case, why are we even buying imported chicken? In fact what is wrong if every family in Nigeria has a poultry in their backyard to give them eggs and meat? My steward went to Makoko, which is one of the largest fishing communities in Lagos. He wanted to buy fish and they were selling imported frozen fish! Yet in the very waters in front of them, there exist fresh fish that is more nutritious than the cheap frozen fish they were selling. We keep spending over 1 Billion Naira importing rice when our own farmers are capable of meeting our national demand for rice. But for some reason, Nigerians just prefer to buy imported rice. The imported rice we buy in Nigeria is not as good as our local rice because it has been stored for years in silos and treated with chemicals. Moreover, every time you buy it, your money is going out of Nigeria to service an economy in Asia. The end result is that their currency gains value while ours loses value. Have you ever wondered why European Premiership Clubs are so interested in Nigeria? It is because Nigerians spend billions traveling to Europe to watch their games, buy their merchandise and promote their leagues. Yet, back at home, we would not be caught dead watching our own local league. If we will not spend money on made in Nigeria goods and services, how can we expect our Naira to hold its value and appreciate? Obviously we can not cut ourselves off from the world. No nation is an island, but at least we can fly Nigerian airlines, eat locally produced food and patronize our football league. If we do this, not only will our economy grow and produce jobs for Nigerians, it will also make our goods and services improve in value such that they will be attractive enough to be imported. I bought Innoson vehicles as official cars for my staff. I have never lived to regret it one day. They are comfortable and durable. But most of all, I know that my purchase helps to keep jobs in Nigeria and improve the value of the Naira. I urge you to do the same. We have no other country but Nigeria and it is you and I that will make it what it is. If we buy Naija We Will Grow Naira. My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make Commonsense! |
Sunnypar:Your royal uselessnes I see no way my question as anything to do with a dimwit like yourself.... But it seems you haven't learnt from trespassing a military barricaded zone. Last time I checked this thread priortises the need to clearly state out job opening location, to allow for easy assessment for those that might be interested..... So why you decided taking daga and phensic tablets for another man's head and body pain beats my mundane imagination. If the poster of the job advert was the one who reprimanded me I wouldn't get pissed ,but a good for nothing busy body like yourself trying to take a shine off my innocuous question won't ever be over looked by me!!! Be warned scallywag!!! |
GoldenDr:Please sir do you have an idea of the location where the tutorial is?? |
A pitiable case of good intentions turning into a complex case of regret..... If the lady in question as any conscience whatsoever then she should calm down and lower her demands as regards the phone. |
Orente21:I am also based in IB... UI province to be precise, graduate of economics..... Just incase you know of any teaching job around Ibadan that I could give a try. |
Na b4 dem say waffy no dey carry last... Nowadays abokis self no dey dull nor carry last!!! |
serendipityF:Where you serving if I may ask?? |
manie:Like i said there are still goldmines in nigeria that are yet to be explored, personally to me i feel agriculture is more of a neglected goldmine than a yet to be explored one, real estate like you mentioned in your post is also a goldmine thats mostly capital intensive and with the elimination of the middle class in the nigerian class strata, the real estate market for now isn't going to be booming as expected simply because you are left with only two target market when the middle class is non-existent ,which is the uppper class and the lower class... Like we all see every day the upper class real estate market is already saturated ,places like abuja would give you an insight of what i mean... Most of the top notch houses in high brow areas there in the FCT hardly have people living in it and most have not been bought outrightly by those who can afford it,as for the lower class which needs more supply of low costs housing ,hardly do private investors look to invest in such ventures simply because the nigerian mortgage plan is not viable neither can the lower class afford to buy houses outrightly even if it is termed a lowcost building. As for me i feel the IT world and technology industry is yet to be fully tapped into in the nigerian economy, there is still much ground to be covered and it is yet to be saturated, for those who have foresight and passion for IT ,they have envisaged it to be a potential goldmine in the making compared to what is being realised presently!!! |
GoldenDr:Sir that wish of yours might take a little more than a century to become a reality simply because Nigeria tends to discover crude in other part of the country presently, though it has no major positive effect on our economy at present due to the astronomical drop in the value of crude oil . But the fact is Nigeria is so blessed with both liquid and solid mineral resources that would make us weather the storm even with crude oil drying up or the market value reducing, if our leaders could get rid of there mental laziness and unrepentant greed while embracing the act of selfless service to the people then we can get to breathe a sigh of relief that there is a glimmer of hope in the long run. |
manie:I am actually an economics graduate and I have got passion to teach and be a teacher at some stage in my life be it short or mid term...... But all in all entrepreneurship does it for me,because I see and envisage so many unexplored goldmine in the Nigerian economy if I can get the right platform, though the situation of things might be discouraging for enthusiastic youths like us,but persistence, perseverance and an undying passion to succeed would surely supersede whatever economical obstacle in the way. That I believe!!! |
manie:Though this might sound cliche, but the only effective way the FG can stimulate the cripling economy of nigeria is by promoting SME's and providing funds that can be channeled into viable business ideas,as complex as the situation in the country presently it can be solved gradually if the FG stops looking at solving the economical slump from the macro to the micro level, but rather look to solve it from the micro to the macro level. Once unemployment is reduced to some extent by funding SME's that creates employment with the little available at the governements disposal presently this would tend to increase revenue for the government in the long run and would have solved the problem at the micro level, the m... Though our condition is in dire straits, but i believe we can overcome coz we have what it takes to do so. Countries like japan, switzerland and the likes have no mineral resources but still survive, the UK relies mostly on business ventures and establishments to generate funds used in running its economy, all we need now is reduce corruption to the barest minimum and the little the country as now would be enough to set things right once again. |
maryjoyce:please am looking to try out the valencia school tomorrow.... The test you where given was it based on your area of specialisation or general knowledge??..... From the look of things are they still looking to recruit other intending applicants?? |
Lawyers should Never ask an elderly woman to be a witness in court if they are not prepared for the answer. In a trial in a southern small town in lagos the prosecuting lawyer called a grandmotherly elderly woman to the witness box and asks her , alhaja Balogun do u know me??.... she responded, why? Yes i do know you Mr Uche . I have known you since you were a boy,and frankly speaking you have been a big dissapointment to me. You lie ,you cheat on your wife, you manipulate people and talk about them behind there backs. You think you are a big lawyer, when you dont have the brain to realise that you would never amount to nothing more than a petty no good doing charge and bail lawyer, yes i know you. The lawyer was stunned not knowing what else to do,he pointed across the room and asked, alhaja balogun do u know the defence attorney also ![]() She again replied, why Yes i do... I have known Mr danjuma since he was a youngster,he is lazy, bigoted and he as a drinking problem,he cant build a relationship with any one,and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with 3 women one of which is your wife, yes i know him.The defense attorney nearly fainted. The judge asked both lawyers to approach him and in a very low voice said. If either of you two idiots asks her if she knows me,i would make sure i send you both to death by firing squad with no chance of appeal!!! |
Naomite:It would be a pleasure if I can help lift u from low key to hi-key..... Hope u don't mind? |
Naomite:Happy birthday to you dear... Wish you LLNP.... How we celebrating it now ![]() |
As far as I am concerned I feel lil kesh deserved the award more than reekado banks did, most of lil kesh's singles were hits and club bangers unlike reekado banks that rode on the back of mavins groupie songs to get hits and be known. Aside from this two I feel kiss Daniel deserved it better than both of them ,though his songs wouldn't be taken for club bangers but they were hits that relates meaningfully well to all and sundry.... His undoing would have been the fact that he didn't have a popular, solid and efficient record label to ride on like YBNL n MAVINS. |
avicky:you are very much welcome!!! |
avicky:''regardless'' as an english word isn't wrong and it can be used depending on the context of your statement, but in this case and context it wouldn't fit in. The use of the word in this case wouldn't have anything to do with being a grammatical blunder , but rather everything to do with contextual grammatical concord. |
