BlackManta: I have seen a lot of multiverse movies, the nostalgia bait can't get to me anymore.
This is nothing special Whatever nostalgia-bait the film contains is not intended to entice stvpid DC numb skulls who only make noise online and are unable to visit theaters to see their own films. The film is intended for people who back up their words with deeds, not for online noisemakers who only serve to boost audience ratings. |

BlackManta: It bombed like Quantumania It's always amusing when clueless DC ret@rds attempt to reference Quantumania or Eternals. Everyone is aware that those projects were failures, but the key distinction is that they did not have the same impact as any of your previous endeavors. Both of them were less disastrous failures than Black Adam, Fury of the Flops, or even The Flush. What really baffles me is the fact that you dropped 6 of the biggest flops in CBM history and one of your projects sits at the top spot but you foools like to set yourself up for dragging by making MCU failures the crux of your dumb viewpoints on CBM. |

It's going to be a cameo galore

Minemrys: It all depends on the films turning profit ASAP. Zaslav is not charitable. If the films keep on losing interest, them go pull the plug. Besides, I don't think you realize there's already a superhero fatigue creeping up. Just think of it in 2 angles not just the angle that after 2 films without profit, Zaslav won't start looking for alternatives. Permit me to add a little. While I don't believe they will completely stop making DC-based films, I do think they will slow down and pay close attention as time passes. A sizeable amount of their revenue is currently being invested in fresh creative concepts and the revival of other successful franchises from the past. As a result, I believe that although production of DC films will slow down, it will continue. |

abduleez1: Yeah, I was actually talking about Sony Pictures outgrowing Paramount Pictures in the theatrical business for the last 4 years. It's kinda shocking to me how a conglomerate like that could be so mismanaged. There was a time in 2018 or so when Paramount wasn't even among top 6 studios in US and Canada in terms of domestic box office for a year. Even minnows like MGM and Lionsgate they take over e position.
I digressed to Sony Group cos I thought you were talking about the parent company size when you mentioned ViacomCBS. I agree, their Transformers run then was unparalleled despite people complaining back then.
It's wait and see now sha, although Paramount looks like it's under better leadership now. Especially it's programming in horror genre. I like the smart decision of trying to expand the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe and explore it for theatricals. It's a smart move. Let's just hope Paramount can maintain the momentum they've gained in order to remain among the top 5 revenue-generating studios. I believe that the top positions are competitive right now, with only reputable names occupying them; there is no room for minnows anymore because the big sharks have improved. I also think they are being led more effectively too, and their revenue has undoubtedly increased significantly. They crossed the $30 billion milestone in 2022, which was a significant achievement for them as they had not done so in the previous ten years. Their own streaming channel was introduced, they increased their reliance on digital services and they acquired Miramax and MTV Entertainment Studios. They are now in a better position to ensure continued growth thanks to these and some of the other strategic plans you mentioned. Things are really looking up for them. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by SOZINN: 5:15pm On Jul 06, 2023 |
abduleez1: Yea, they possibly still has a billion in sight. Yep, SONY is bigger in box office revenue for some years now.
@ Bolded, Not really.... SONY Corporation is a bigger conglomerate than ViacomCBS (now Paramount Global).
SONY group has the video games and console, music industry, camera, consumer electronics, chipsets etc that makes the whole conglomerate far bigger than Paramount. Unless you talking specifically about their multimedia business.
Still, that doesn't mean they're less pressured to perform because they have other large arms to generate revenues. Each subsidiary should be responsible for itself. Paramount's former CEO had to resign early 2018 because of the disastrous box office of 2017.
So there's that, especially when you remember WBD has several subsidiaries they get revenues from but people mostly think they broke cos of their struggling theatrical business. Ofcourse SONY is bigger if you want to consider other factors outside multimedia but maybe I didn't get you the first time. When you said "SONY somehow became bigger than Paramount" what were you referring to? I agree that they are not less pressured to perform, success in the theatrical business is very, very important. Paramount's former CEO was just failing all round, aside the high profile creative failures at the box office, they didn't launch any new successful brands because of a host of other setbacks, even the TV section was not left out. On top of it he refused to bow to pressure and step down, and yes 2016 and 2017 were the worst years for their film division under his tenure. Although we still have to give him roses for the Transformers franchise and the Star Trek reboot. I think Warner Bros Discovery might be going broke because of other reasons as well not just their failed theatrical releases but I know there are some ongoing changes that are being made to ensure success in the long run but time will tell. |
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by SOZINN: 11:52am On Jul 06, 2023 |
abduleez1: Sadly this movie has incredible pressure to perform... It'd need Top Gun: Maverick level of BO performance to make some profit due to its insanely large budget.
Of course, everyone knows MI7 will easily do well against Barbie and Oppenheimer (except Barbie over performs). It's the blockbuster movie of July. However, It has to earn at least $1bn to be able to have a chance at profit.
Anyways, Tom Cruise somehow saved Paramount as well as good exec decisions from getting bankrupt. Their theatrical business has massively suffered since the past 4yrs after Transformers 5. 2022 was a good year for them and being back in the business with full strength. SONY somehow became bigger than Paramount. WB seem to be in this rut now. 🤔 I still think they can pull it off. The box office has been moving crazy this year but everything is going well for this franchise. It depends on how you look at it. In terms of box office revenue SONY should be bigger currently, they are seriously feasting on CBM. Paramount has their own projects that are sure to turn in bank profits per year but nothing comes close to Marvel CBM money. However, Paramount sits at the helm of a bigger conglomerate so there are still four big revenue resources to draw from; ViacomCBS, CBS, MTV and Nickelodeon. So it's possible that they are earning more than SONY if you look at the broader picture. |

abduleez1: And this is why I've upped my projections.... Me smell over a $100mn bucks on premiere weekend. Could do $120mn. 😉😉 Finally, you've made a box office forecast that I can concur with, although I tend to agree more with the predictions that hover around $90 million. However, given the fact that the previous film made over $750 million globally, this one might surpass that amount. Tom Cruise is an unstoppable force, and his persistent hard work in this franchise has been paying off ever since the first flick dropped. None of this scientology rubbish is holding him down. Not to mention the promotion for this film and the generally positive early reviews from critics. Although there is undoubtedly fierce competition this month, I am confident that this film will be the biggest. Oppenheimer and Barbie fans will both agree that this one is worth seeing. |

phr0nesis: No answer? Greta still has age on her side and there's a lot of potential to tap into while Kate is in her 70s and could be retiring anytime soon. I think Kate is at the end of her career while Greta is still coming up so we don't know what the future holds and this makes the comparison quite uneven. However there are several reasons anyone (including me) would easily go with Kate. Kate is a pioneer and she set the table for Greta's generation. Kate is way more experienced with several critically acclaimed projects to her name while Greta has only two. I'm not a big fan of awards but if you are, Kate has won several more including two academy awards. She is also a bigger box office icon. But all this shît I'm saying is because Kate has spent more time in the game and we don't know what Greta will achieve in her own time, so that's why I said it's unfair to compare. |

abduleez1: First off, no one takes CBR seriously these days... 😂 All they do is clickbait headlines and stories so ppl can visit their dead website.
Also, it's not a must to make $1bn before your movie is termed a success. I don't understand you peeps obsession with it when not even ⅒ of movies released yearly will even get near it. Hundreds of movies are released yearly and just one or two and at most 6 movies will make it to that spot. And even Disney ain't smelling that either this year.
Wrong!! 2019 had Godzilla: King of The Monsters with $170mn and Detective Pikachu $150mn. Even WB smaller movies that were expected to do decently almost all flopped that year. 2019 is widely regarded as WBs poorest year box office wise and 2022 slightly contends with it.
Very smart decision judging the rest of the movies for the year as flops since the first few ones missed target. 🙃🙃 I only said I was expecting two movies to flop and those are CBM, and it's not about the first few missing the target, the DCEU brand is dead. A lot of information CBR shares can be verified with other news outlets, they don't deal on rumours. They were one of the few that predicted that The Flush will open it's 3 day weekend with $75m or less while you were running around with info from "industry experts" betting your kidney that the flush will turn a huge profit. 😂 |

abduleez1: CAP!!!
When WB lost money massively in 2019 with ALL their movies that year premium flops, Joker was the one to save the day. Same thing happened in 2021 with most WB movies underperforming except GvK. The Batman gave WB the profit margin they needed early 2022 to get back up.
WB just needs similar movies like that with probably Dune 2 and Barbie. Only The Nun part 2 will cover half that expenses. Alright, only time will tell. First of all, CBR are merely questioning; no conclusions have been drawn yet. Second, if you compare 2019, 2022, and 2023, you'll discover that WB is on course to lose more money this year than those other years. In fact, I don't think you should even bring up 2019, because there were no projects with a production budget of more than $100 million in that year. Now there are still six major projects to be released this year, two of which are CBM (which I think will be two more flops), I just don't see any of the other four movies breaking the $1 billion mark, but time will tell. |

Me, I no fear o. Aquaman debuted with $67mn amidst a very competitive December opening and came out tops with a billion dollars. I remember how people were laughing then because it had the weakest DCEU opening.
From what I've seen and heard from almost every top film industry analyst or commentator, WB have struck GOLD with the critics. And all concur it'd be a crowd pleaser.
It's only the big stiff competition this summer that's making me cautiously optimistic.
With TLM underperforming overseas and Fast 10 losing NA audiences, and a soft anticipation level for Transformers, I'm sure the Flash will tap these audiences. Sure. |
