Ok, I misunderstood you. You are right, the only thing India really have is herb, they are also good in software development field too though, but if you compare there major software products with the ones from US or West, you will realize they are 'head turning'.

On their software development, yeah, that's where the "math proficiency" plays a part.
These days, major US companies out-source most of their 'software labour' to India and Malaysia - the biggest culprits being Dell, Microsoft and Adobe. Unlike China though, the Indians just seem content with their jobs as software/virus ghostwriters (for US-based conglomerates), and hardly aspire to build business empires on the rock of reverse-engineering like the Chinese do.

China is a fast-rising nation with the second-largest GDP. They're actually worlds apart.
