POMR STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE " *Our sacred institutions must not be sacrificed on the altar of politics" - Obi reacts to the Court deregistration order.* The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has decried the growing damage to the nation's sacred institutions on the altar of politics. Reacting to the Federal High Court ruling today deregistering some political parties, including ADC, Obi remarked that the nation rises when institutions are stronger and not when they're politicised. Writing on his X handle, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate said, "When the controversy surrounding the removal of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, unfolded, I expressed a concern to a friend: that the greatest damage might not be immediate, but the message it sends about the sanctity and independence of our institutions to the world." "Strong economies are built on trust. Investors can manage security risks, policy risks, and even market risks. What they fear most is uncertainty in the rule of law and a judiciary that is perceived to be vulnerable to political pressure. "Today, many Nigerians have lost confidence in systems that should protect them. Businesses increasingly request that their contracts be governed by foreign jurisdictions because they have greater confidence in those institutions than in our own. That should concern every patriot. "We must never sacrifice our sacred institutions on the altar of politics. Nations rise when institutions are stronger than individuals. *The Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the ADC and other political parties is just one of those activities that further reduces the common man's trust in our legal systems*; it should be reversed." I pledge that we will restore the dignity, independence, and integrity of the judiciary. The common man must have a voice. The business community must be protected from legal uncertainty and intimidation. Justice must be impartial, accessible, and respected by all. "To our judges, legal luminaries, senior advocates, and lawyers: this is your moment. Rise, defend the rule of law, take back your country! A new Nigeria is possible. *E-sign* . Ibrahim Umar. POMR STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. *Peter Obi screams at Excessive Borrowing Without Accountability: ..........Challenges Tinubu to Explain the Whereabouts of Undeployed Funds.* The 2027 Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has uncovered stark impropriety in Bola Tinubu’s three-year reign and asks for an explanation. Obi, who took a holistic look at the borrowing habit of the APC-controlled federal government from the Muhammadu Buhari era, writes in his X handle on Tuesday that "President Bola Tinubu's administration has engaged in remarkably imprudent borrowing, escalating Nigeria's total debt to approximately N200 trillion. "This represents an increase of over N100 trillion within a mere three years, a stark contrast to the roughly N49 trillion accumulated during President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year tenure, which would have projected to around N80 trillion. "As millions of Nigerians grapple with the shock of this unsustainable debt accumulation, the situation is exacerbated by the government's reckless approach to borrowing and a profound absence of accountability and transparency in the utilisation of these funds. "For instance, data from the Federation's Budget Office reveals that the Bola Tinubu government borrowed N11.89 trillion in the first three quarters of 2025 (January to September), exceeding the planned borrowing target of N10.34 trillion by approximately N1.54 trillion. "Under a responsible and accountable government, such an overshoot would necessitate rigorous scrutiny and explanation from relevant governmental bodies. "Regrettably, this is not the reality under the current administration. Compounding this issue, only N3.10 trillion of the borrowed funds was allocated to capital expenditure during the same January-September 2025 period. "This constitutes a mere 17.66% of the N17.58 trillion earmarked for capital projects, leaving a deficit of roughly N14.48 trillion, or 82.34% of planned capital expenditure unfunded. "The most disturbing aspect of the financial management fiasco under Bola Tinubu is that there is no explanation or information regarding how the balance was utilised or deployed. "The question that Nigerians are rightly asking and deserve an answer to is what happened to the balance? Was it deployed for recurrent expenditure/ consumption, for the entertainment of guests to Aso Rock or transferred to the Renewed Hope Agenda 2027 Election Campaign Fund? Nigerians deserve an answer on how our economy and resources are most unpatriotically managed! A New and Productive Nigeria is Possible, and Nigeria will be OK! *E-sign* . NDC Clarifies on Party’s Primaries • Says there was no imposition of candidates The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has put a lie to insinuations that its recently concluded presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries were fraught with irregularities and alleged imposition of candidates. In a statement released to the press late Thursday, the NDC said the wrong narrative about its otherwise overwhelmingly successful primary elections nationwide was largely informed by both ignorance of the new party's constitution and established guidelines, and outright mischief by those, who are intimidated by NDC’s fast- rising profile. The statement, signed by Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu Esq, the party’s National Secretary, the NDC should rather be commended for the innovative way it carried out its primaries nationwide, pointing out that there was a huge emphasis on pre-election consensus building to reduce areas of rancour and disagreement The statement, titled Understanding the Just Concluded NDC Primary Elections, read in part; “The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the fastest-growing political party in Nigeria, is founded on the principles of leadership, consultation, inclusiveness, and consensus-building”. Enekweizu cited the specific instance of the South East, from where a lot of the misrepresentations have come from, saying the NDC approach proved particularly commendable. “In the South-East geopolitical zone, our presidential candidate, His Excellency Peter Obi, came into the party with an established leadership structure comprising respected elder statesmen and political leaders who serve as caucus heads in their respective states. The caucus leaders are: • Abia State – Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, respected veteran journalist and former Chairman of the NDDC Board. • Ebonyi State – His Excellency Dr. Sam Egwu, former Ebonyi State Governor, former Minister, and former Senator. • Enugu State – His Excellency Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Enugu Governor, former National Secretary, and former National Chairman of the PDP. • Imo State – His Excellency Chief Achike Udenwa, former Governor and former federal Minister. • Anambra State – Since His Excellency Peter Obi is our presidential candidate, his team coordinates the process in his home state, Anambra “ The NDC scribe explained that these leaders were entrusted with conducting stakeholder consultations, building consensus, and making recommendations to the party based on their understanding of the peculiar political dynamics in their respective states. “In addition, each state has recognized stakeholders and grassroots leaders who participate in consultations and make recommendations regarding party affairs”. Enekweizu said: “This process was conducted without prejudice to the rights of any aspirant. Where aspirants disagreed with recommendations made by stakeholders or caucus leaders, they were free to test their popularity through the democratic process at the grassroots level, and this was duly accommodated. “At no time has the NDC National Secretariat been involved in the business of picking, choosing, or imposing candidates on any constituency or state. Every aspirant who approached the party was received, attended to, and directed to engage with the appropriate caucus leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots members of the party in their respective states”. The statement further added: In line with its affirmative action policy, the party has demonstrated a commitment to encouraging and supporting female participation in elective office and has done so in some cases. The party has also expressed an interest in protecting and supporting serving members of parliament. Beyond these considerations, all aspirants were referred to their state caucus leaders and all those who bought Expression of Interest Forms were asked to go into the field and participate in the primaries. We are aware of reports of some aspirants prematurely declaring themselves as candidates, as well as complaints raised by others regarding aspects of the process. These issues have been brought to the attention of the Appeal Panel and the leadership of the party and have been addressed accordingly. “As resolved at yesterday's NEC meeting, we now look forward to the commencement of a comprehensive reconciliation process. We count on our esteemed caucus leaders, state chairmen, stakeholders, and party leaders to engage all aspirants and members in the interest of unity, cohesion, and the continued growth of our party. “For this reason, throughout the past several months, whenever aspirants or stakeholders approached the party regarding elective positions, we consistently referred them to their respective state caucus leaders. Likewise, those with concerns or grievances were advised to channel such matters through their caucuses for resolution.” The NDC Secretary said the party’s role during this period has been to receive new members and prospective aspirants into the NDC, welcome them to the party, reassure them of our commitment to fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness, and direct them to engage with their respective caucus leaders for guidance and participation in the process.” “This approach”, he said, “reflects our unwavering commitment to consultation, respect for established leadership structures, internal democracy, and the collective pursuit of unity and progress within the party.” The NDC which formally received its certificate of registration February 5, 2026, has within 90 days, been able to put in place much of the constitutional party structures from the Ward to the national levels, held two National Executive Committee meetings and organized a nationwide presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries. It is said to now be the second largest party in the country, by virtue of its representation at the National Assembly. https://newsense.ng/ndc-dismisses-allegations-of-candidate-imposition-defends-conduct-of-nationwide-primaries/

POMR STATEMENT FOR release *Obi to Kidnappers- "Please release these children for the sake of our shared humanity"* Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Presidential Candidate for the upcoming presidential election in 2027, Peter Obi, has pleaded with kidnappers holding school children and their teachers for over two weeks to release them for the sake of humanity. writing on his X platform on Wednesday, Obi said, "I am deeply shocked and heartbroken by the condition in which these abducted school children are, as seen from their flagellated bodies. It is a painful reminder of the depth of insecurity in our land. "I have always made it clear that the society we abuse today will take its revenge on our children tomorrow. When I first began making that statement, some of these children were not even born. This is a classic example of how the abuse of governance and society today can produce devastating consequences long after the abusers are gone. "It is on the same line that I argue that the loans our leaders take today will hurt our children in the future, as many of them will mature for repayment and consequences long after we are gone. "To those holding these children, I make a direct appeal to your conscience. Remember that these are innocent children - sons and daughters of people who have placed their hopes, dreams, and entire future in them. In every one of them, you will find reflections of your own children, your own family, and your own humanity. "No grievance, no hardship, no justification can ever outweigh the sanctity of a child’s life and innocence. Whatever path has led to this moment, there is still room for remorse, for humanity, and for a change of heart. I therefore appeal to your sense of mercy: release these children immediately. "Let them go. Return them safely to society to reunite with their families" *E-sign* . Constituents hail Alao Akala for meaningful developments …as he promises more dividends of democracy as next level agenda Constituents in Ogbomosho North, South and Orire Federal Constituency have lauded the member, House of Representatives (MHR) representing the constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala for providing purposely and impactful leadership for them. They described him as a leader who has translated promises into growth and dignity for the ordinary man. Particularly, Alao Akala was eulogized for consciously adopting a development strategy to boost the growth and development of his constituency right from the day he got into the House of Representatives. His people noted that he expressed desires to adequately represent them by deploying all energies towards advancing the development of his constituency. In a statement signed by spokesman of his support group, Ogbomosho People for Akala (OFA), Mr. Gbenga Osho, and made available to newsmen, Akala, the son of former Oyo State Governor, late Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, was appreciated for his own track record in youth empowerment, grassroots development, and facilitation of national projects that have defined his tenure. The statement reads in part: “The activities of Alao Akala have translated legislative mandate into tangible benefits for the downtrodden, with his model of constituency engagement drawing attention beyond Ogbomoso. When he assumed office in 2023, he made a deliberate choice: ‘adequate representation’ devoid of a style that only surfaces during elections. He established a constituency office in Ogbomoso that operates five days a week, with staff trained to receive petitions, process scholarship applications, and coordinate project monitoring. A toll-free line and WhatsApp desk were added in 2024 to capture complaints from rural areas with limited transport access. “Youth unemployment has been a challenge in Nigeria and Ogbomoso is not an exception. With Ladoke Akintola University of Technology producing thousands of graduates annually, the gap between education and employment is a daily reality. The 2024 National Bureau of Statistics report placed youth unemployment in Oyo State at 19.8%, higher than the national average. Akala’s response to this has been targeting skills, capital, and access to markets. In 2024 and 2025, over 1,200 youths from the constituency underwent training in ICT, fashion design, solar installation, welding, and agro-processing through partnerships with the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, and private training firms such as TechQuest and Solar Academy Nigeria. The training was not ceremonial. Each participant received starter packs: laptops for ICT graduates, sewing machines for tailors, toolkits for electricians, and start-up kits for agroprocessors. A 24-year-old beneficiary, Aisha Yusuf, who is a graduate from Ogbomoso North, now runs a graphics design business from her home. “Before this training, I had my certificate but no laptop and no client. Today, I have three clients in Lagos. The starter pack changed everything. I can pay my rent and support my younger brother in school,” she disclosed. Olawale Gbadamosi, 28, who trained in solar installation, said the programme gave him confidence to leave okada riding. “Now, I install solar for shops and churches in Ogbomoso. I earn more in a week than I earned in a month before,” he disclosed. Praising Alao Akala further, the statement continues:”..Beyond skills, the lawmaker facilitated access to low-interest loans and grants through the Bank of Industry. and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN. More than 300 small business owners in the constituency have received support, ranging between N100,000 and N500,000 for petty trade, poultry, and food processing. He also revived dormant cooperative societies in Oriade, linking them to federal agricultural intervention funds. The result is visible in the expansion of cassava processing clusters in Ajaawa and Ikoyi Ile, where women now produce garri and fufu for markets in Ibadan and Lagos. To reduce dependency, the office organised financial literacy workshops in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Consumer Protection Department. The goal: ensure beneficiaries understand record-keeping, savings, and reinvestment. “ They recalled his exploits in education, and other essential social amenities , saying:”Over 500 students have benefited from bursaries and scholarships covering WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and tertiary institution fees. The scheme prioritises orphans, children of widows, and students with disabilities. In addition, the office distributed 5,000 exercise books, school bags, and uniforms to public primary schools in 2025 to reduce the burden on parents. A “Back to School” medical outreach was also introduced, offering free eye tests and glasses to pupils. At the project, over 1,200 pupils were screened, with 340 receiving corrective glasses. Rural roads, drainage Several rural roads that had been impassable for years are now graded and fitted with culverts. The Oke-Ogun to Oriade farm road project, for example, has reduced post-harvest losses for farmers who previously lost 30% of produce due to bad transport. In Ogbomoso town, drainage works in Sabo and Idi-Ape areas have reduced flooding during the rainy season, protecting over 200 shops and homes. The lawmaker also pushed for the inclusion of the OgbomosoIresaapa road in the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, 2025 intervention list. Work commenced in March 2026. Through collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, 18 solar-powered boreholes have been sunk in communities that relied on unsafe streams. The boreholes are managed by local water committees to ensure sustainability. In areas with high iron content, water treatment units were installed. The “Ogbomoso Health Cares” initiative has provided free medical screenings, eye care, and distribution of drugs to over 8,000 residents across the three local government areas. The program partners with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure follow-up for patients with hypertension and diabetes. “ During the 2025 Lassa fever scare, the office distributed 5,000 hygiene kits and worked with the Oyo State Ministry of Health to conduct awareness campaigns in 15 wards. Recognising the cost of diesel and irregular grid supply, the lawmaker facilitated the installation of solar street lights in 25 communities and markets. The lights have extended trading hours and reduced insecurity at night. A mini-solar grid project for Laduba Market is currently under procurement, expected to power 120 shops.” “The lawmaker in his activities placed a deliberate focus on the most vulnerable. His office has built a reputation for prioritizing widows, the elderly, and persons with disabilities by embarking on the following: Quarterly, the office distributes food items, clothing, and cash stipends to over 1,000 widows and elderly citizens. During Ramadan and Christmas, the program expands to include interfaith support, ensuring no community feels excluded. Beneficiaries are selected through ward coordinators and verified by community leaders to reduce duplication. In partnership with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, NCPWD, Alao Akala’s constituency office facilitated the distribution of wheelchairs, hearing aids, and prosthetic limbs to 120 beneficiaries. The office also advocates for inclusive employment in federal agencies and has secured internships for 15 persons with disabilities in federal parastatals. A beneficiary of his agricultural support, . Chief Adeleke Adegoke, a farmer in Oriade, said the new farm road had cut his transport cost by half. “Before, I paid N3,000 to move a bag of yam to Ogbomoso. Now it is N1,500. That is profit I keep. My children are back in school because of it.” Funmilayo Olayinka, a widow in Ogbomoso North, said the quarterly food support had helped her feed her three children during the last inflation spike. “He does not know my name, but he knows my pain. When I received rice and garri last December, I cried. For the first time in two years, my children ate rice on Christmas.” Tunde Adebayo, a solar technician trained under the youth program, now employs two apprentices. “The starter kit was not a handout. It was a key. Now I am opening doors for others. I have trained two boys from my street for free.” Hajia Rukayat Bello, leader of the Ogbomoso Women Cooperative, noted that the tractor allocation had reduced the cost of land preparation by 40%. “Before, we paid N15,000 per acre. Now it is N9,000. That means more women can farm.” Security challenges pose a risk to agricultural expansion, particularly in border areas with Kwara State. Promising to fix this, Alao Akala declared: “the next phase will focus on consolidating gains: completing ongoing projects, scaling up the ICT hub into a tech incubation centre, and pushing for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic satellite campus in Ogbomoso. We are also in talks with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to establish a light industrial cluster for agro-processing in Oriade.” Alao Akala who has clinched the candidacy of his party ahead of 2027, promised more dividends if democracy. On youth engagement, he plans to launch the “Ogbomoso Innovates” challenge in late 2026, offering seed funding to 20 tech and agri-tech start-ups from the constituency. Testifying that his tenure has been a stand out for its quiet, and consistent focus on delivery, constituents added that: “He has shown that when youth empowerment, grassroots development, and national project facilitation are pursued with intentionality, the downtrodden benefit. They see change in the road they walk, the light that stays on at night, and the skill that puts food on the table,’’ noted a member of his constituency. “For the people of Ogbomoso, that is the definition of representation. For Nigeria, it is a model worth studying as the country grapples with youth unemployment, rural poverty, and the need to restore trust in governance,’’ https://newsense.ng/constituents-hail-alao-akala-for-meaningful-developments/

*ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY MR. PETER OBI FOLLOWING HIS NOMINATION AS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE NIGERIAN DEMOCRATIC COALITION (NDC) – MAY 30, 2026* Protocols, Esteemed citizens of Nigeria, It is with deep humility that I accept the role of presidential candidate for our party. I express my profound gratitude to the leaders of our party. His Excellency Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, National Secretary and the National Working Committee, NWC members and members of our relentless supporters, and the Nigerian populace who have steadfastly kept the spirit of hope alive. I commend those who have made the journey from every region of our nation to convene here in Abuja. I wish to assert unequivocally: a New Nigeria is Possible. This conviction has united us; it must serve as our compass on the challenging road ahead and sustain us through all trials we may face. This pivotal moment transcends the individual ambitions of Peter Obi; it concerns the essence of our nation and the future of our children. It is about rekindling hope for millions who have faced adversity yet remain committed to Nigeria. Today, our nation finds itself at a crucial juncture, enveloped in uncertainty. Families are anxious about their safety; parents are concerned for their children's futures; and talented youth increasingly question their prospects in their homeland. Businesses are struggling, communities are suffering, and an alarming number of citizens have lost faith in the very concept of governance. Yet, I stand before you filled with optimism and strong faith in the resilience of our people, for I firmly believe that a New Nigeria is possible. *UNITY* To realise this New Nigeria, we must first mend the foundational elements essential for the success of any nation. Nigeria cannot advance while fragmented by ethnic, religious, regional, or narrow political divides. We may communicate in different languages and practise diverse faiths, but we share a singular destiny under one flag. Our diversity should not be a source of division; rather, it is among our greatest strengths. We should build bridges where others erect barriers, replace mistrust with confidence, division with understanding, and resentment with a collective purpose. A united Nigeria is indispensable. As Will Durant wisely pointed out, "A great civilisation is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within." We must never self-destruct. We must heal, unify, and progress together. *INSECURITY* In terms of security, the situation in Nigeria has considerably worsened. The global terrorism impact assessments ranked Nigeria as the 8th most affected nation in 2022, 6th in 2024, and 4th in 2026. Yet, for many years, Nigeria garnered global recognition as a reliable contributor to peacekeeping, regional stabilisation, and conflict resolution. Our troops have not only displayed bravery but have also shown professionalism, discipline, resilience, and empathy in the most challenging operational contexts. Our officers and personnel have successfully commanded multiple international forces, safeguarded vulnerable civilian populations, monitored ceasefires, reinstated constitutional order, and contributed to rebuilding efforts. Nigeria became one of the leading contributors of troops from Africa to UN peacekeeping missions and earned widespread admiration for operational effectiveness and leadership in various countries, including Rwanda, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Western Sahara, Congo, Lebanon, Cambodia, Haiti, and Kuwait. At one point, a Nigeria, Lt. General Isaac Obiakor (rtd) even led global peacekeeping initiatives. We must address insecurity with resolve and urgency, for no nation can thrive while its citizens live in trepidation. The primary responsibility of government is to ensure the safeguarding of lives and property. Farmers must be able to return to their fields securely; students must be able to learn without fear; communities must be able to rest peacefully; and investors must regain their confidence in Nigeria. Our strategy will be intelligence-driven, technology-enhanced, proactive, and community-focused. We will fortify our security institutions, enhance operational coordination, support our courageous personnel, and tackle the underlying causes of insecurity—namely poverty, unemployment, and marginalisation. *HEALTHCARE* Regarding health, Nigeria is currently ranked 157th globally, placing it in the lower echelon of healthcare worldwide. Primary healthcare, the cornerstone of our medical system, remains severely not functional with only 10% to 20% of approximately 30,000 primary healthcare centres operational. As a result, Nigeria suffers from one of the highest infant mortality rates in the world. Furthermore, health insurance coverage in Nigeria hovers around a mere 10%, in stark contrast to countries like Indonesia, which boast over 90% coverage. This situation is regrettable. I pledge that within four years, our health insurance coverage will more than double to over 20%. Within these four years, we will increase our healthcare budget to a minimum of 10% of our GDP, up from the current level of below 5%. We will invest heavily in and support our healthcare institutions to ensure the massive training of our healthcare workers, including nurses and other professionals. We shall also adequately staff our medical facilities. In four years, there will be a fully functional and properly managed primary healthcare centre in all 8,809 wards across the nation. By the conclusion of our term, Nigeria will ensure that at least 50% of its 30,000 primary healthcare centres are fully functional, properly manned, and dedicated to serving the populace. *EDUCATION* Education will remain at the forefront of our national revival, as no country can grow beyond its educational system. Nations that have transformed successfully have done so through sustained investment in human capital. Our children are not burdens; they represent our most valuable assets. We will invest heavily in schools, teachers, technology, and vocational training, ensuring that education equips our youth not only to seek employment but also to generate it. We must pivot Nigeria from a cycle of shared poverty to one of collective prosperity through knowledge, innovation, and productivity. *HUNGER AND AGRICULTURE* In 2023, when the present government took office, Nigeria ranked 109 out of 150 nations on the Global Hunger Index. And by 2025, our ranking further plunged to 115th, placing us among the hungriest nations globally. Currently, the World Food Programme estimates that over 35 million Nigerians will face acute hunger and food insecurity this year. This is unconscionable, given our vast expanses of uncultivated land. Rice remains the most consumed food in Nigeria. To illustrate our level of unproductivity, let us compare our capabilities with those of leading rice-producing nations. India is the largest producer of rice, yielding approximately 200 million tonnes of unmilled rice. Bangladesh is the third largest producer, produces around 60 million tonnes of unskilled Rice, while Vietnam is the 5th, produces about 42 million tonnes. Let us consider the land-to-population ratios: India has a landmass of 3,287,263 square kilometres. Distributed across its population of 1.4 billion people, this equals roughly 2. 34 Square meter per person. Bangladesh, with a landmass of around 148,460 square kilometres and a population of 170 million, has less than 1 square metres per person. Vietnam’s landmass covers 331,000 square kilometres. Divided by a population of 102 million, it yields about 3.25 square metres per person. Nigeria has a massive landmass of 923,768 square kilometres. Divided by our population of approximately 230 million, this results in about 4.00 square metres per person. The foregoing clearly illustrates that we have absolutely no justification for being among the world's hungriest nations. Transitioning our nation from a state of consumption to one of production, through significant investments in agriculture, is the sole dependable strategy to escape the current depths of hunger and poverty. As I often emphasise, the uncultivated lands in our northern region represent our most substantial tangible assets. Transforming this sector is our direct pathway to prosperity. ENERGY SECTOR Nigeria today is the nation with the highest number of citizens lacking access to electricity globally. We currently generate and distribute a mere 4,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity for a population exceeding 200 million. In contrast, comparable nations worldwide - including several African peers such as South Africa and Egypt - each generate and distribute over 40,000 MW, despite both countries having less than half of our population. This considerable power shortfall continues to cripple businesses, choke industries, and stall overall economic growth. Over the next four years, I commit to ensuring a minimum of 10,000 MW power increase generation and distribution. *UNEMPLOYMENT AND UNDEREMPLOYMENT* Our large pool of talented youth remains largely unemployed. The current official unemployment rate of 4% grossly misrepresents the true situation; actual underemployment and unemployment in Nigeria exceeds 30%, with youth unemployment sitting at over 40% - among the highest globally, necessitating urgent intervention. We will address this by aggressively supporting the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through targeted tax incentives, special interest rates, and accessible funding in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, entertainment, sports, and distribution. These improvements will be both measurable and verifiable. C *ORRUPTION AND GOVERNANCE COSTS* Nigerians will witness a tangible and verifiable reduction in corruption and the baseline costs associated with governance. Public resources will be managed with absolute transparency, prudence, and accountability to ensure that every naira spent yields demonstrable value for the citizenry. * RULE OF LAW* The rule of law will be fiercely upheld, and adherence to it will be sacrosanct for both government officials and citizens alike, strictly in accordance with our constitutional frameworks. DEMOCRACY Our democracy will exemplify true governance of the people, by the people, and for the people, completely free from interference by the ruling party. Instead, we will institutionalise deep respect for opposition parties and foster constructive engagement in governance. Under my leadership, democracy will be pursued with integrity, fairness, and transparency. May God bless you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. https://newsense.ng/peter-obi-accepts-ndc-presidential-ticket-unveils-vision-for-security-economy-and-national-renewal/

PRESS RELEASE May 28, 2026 *Omo-Agege joins NDC, to contest for Delta Central senatorial seat* Six days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to give vent to his desire to return to the Senate. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege will team up with Mr. Peter Obi, the party's presidential candidate. In press statement he personally issued on Thursday, the Obarisi of Urhoboland declared: "Today, I formally announce my decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC). "This decision is the product of weeks of reflection, wide consultations, and honest conversations with the people I serve. I have consulted with my political associates nationwide, supporters, and stakeholders who are the backbone of our communities. Across all these engagements, one truth stood out: Deltans want leadership that listens first, acts with integrity, and delivers results that can be seen and felt in daily life. "I thank the leadership of the NDC for reaching out and engaging me in this process: Senator Seriake Dickson, Leader and Founder; Senator Moses Cleopas, National Chairman; Governor Peter Obi, Presidential Aspirant; and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and NDC Chieftain. Their commitment to building a credible, people-first alternative gives me confidence that the NDC is the right platform for Delta State and Nigeria. "The NDC represents that kind of leadership. It is a party built on the principles of inclusion, accountability, grassroots participation, and true federalism. It is a platform where decisions are not made in closed rooms but through open consultation with stakeholders and members. It is a platform where public office is treated as a duty to the people, not a privilege for a few. After careful consideration, I am convinced that the NDC offers the clearest path to advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria. "On this platform, I will contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. Let me be clear: this is not about me. This is about the mandate you entrusted to me in 2019 and the renewed call from our people for my return to the Senate to provide effective representation. That call is loud, consistent, alive, and urgent. I cannot ignore it, and I will not betray the trust you have placed in me. "Delta State holds a position of immense responsibility in Nigeria. We are among the largest producers of oil and gas, resources that have sustained the national economy for decades. Our agricultural lands are fertile and capable of feeding millions. Our business community has shown remarkable resilience despite harsh economic conditions. Our young people are educated, innovative, and ready to lead if given the opportunity. Yet the reality on the ground does not match this potential. "In too many communities, roads have collapsed and remain impassable for months. Primary health centers lack drugs, equipment, and staff. Schools struggle with overcrowding and inadequate facilities. Young graduates return home without jobs, and small business owners battle a hostile environment and poor infrastructure. Meanwhile, federal allocations to Delta State have consistently run into hundreds of billions of naira annually. The gap between these resources and the lived reality of our people is unacceptable. "Right now, too much of Delta’s wealth sits in CBN accounts while our people suffer from bad roads, collapsed hospitals, and abandoned communities. This is not governance. It is a failure of leadership and a betrayal of public trust. Deltans deserve better than press releases, billboards, and photo-ops. Nigeria deserves better than a political class that treats public office as a personal business. "I believe this situation can and must change. Change requires a platform committed to discipline, transparency, and service. The National Democratic Congress was built for this moment. It stands for accountability, for justice, for inclusion, and for true federalism. It is the only platform strong enough to challenge the cycle of failure and return power to the people where it belongs. That is why I am joining the NDC. "I know what it takes to build a political structure and make it competitive in Delta State. We did it before for the APC when many said it was impossible. We mobilized at the grassroots, organized our people, and changed the political equation. I bring that same resolve and experience to the NDC. Our immediate priority will be to strengthen the party from the ward level upward, register new members, and prepare a credible slate of candidates for the 2027 elections. "I will not go to Abuja to warm the bench. I am going to fight for Delta Central, and as your senator, my focus will remain on delivering representation that matters. I will take the concerns of Delta Central directly to the National Assembly and ensure they are debated, addressed, and followed through. I will push for fair allocation of federal projects and resources to our senatorial district. I will work to ensure that every kobo released to Delta State is accounted for and applied to projects that improve the lives of our people. I will also advocate for policies that create jobs, support small and medium enterprises, improve agricultural productivity, and expand access to quality healthcare and education. "I will represent Delta North, Delta South, and Delta Central with fairness and balance. A divided Delta is a weakened Delta. When we speak with one voice, Abuja listens. When we work together, we can secure the infrastructure, investments, and policies that our state deserves. "Beyond the Senate, the NDC will field candidates for the governorship and other elective positions who understand the challenges of Delta State and have the competence, humility, and character to address them. Nigeria itself needs a reset. We need leadership that truly restores hope, protects citizens, grows the economy, and respects the rule of law. I will work tirelessly for the victory of our presidential candidate and for a government that puts Nigerians first. "This is more than an election cycle. This is a defining moment for Delta State and for Nigeria. It is a choice between continuing with a system that rewards silence and mediocrity, or choosing a new direction built on accountability and service. "To the youth of Delta State: your time is now. Do not accept the lie that you must wait your turn. Organize in your communities, register to vote, and make your voices impossible to ignore. Your energy, creativity, and courage are the most powerful tools we have to change this state. "To the women who hold our families and communities together: mobilize your networks, your markets, your churches, and your neighborhoods. Your participation will determine the outcome of 2027. "To our elders and traditional rulers: your wisdom has guided us through difficult times before. Speak now for the generation coming behind you. Your voice gives legitimacy and direction to this movement. "And to every registered voter: your Permanent Voter’s Card is your greatest power. It is stronger than money, stronger than intimidation, and stronger than propaganda. Protect it, use it, and use it wisely in 2027. "In 2027, we will end the era of excuses, empty promises, and leaders who vanish after elections. We will return power to the people of Delta State and to the people of Nigeria. "Together, under the banner of the National Democratic Congress, we will reclaim Delta State. Together, we will reclaim Nigeria. "The work starts now. The time is now. The people are ready." *Sunny Areh* Media Adviser to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege May 28, 2026 https://newsense.ng/breaking-omo-agege-dumps-apc-for-ndc-declares-delta-central-senate-ambition/

*Politicians are the Goliaths in our polity; Nigeria must find its David* .- Peter Obi Peter Obi, the front-runner for the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria, explicitly identified politicians as the Goliath obstructing progress. He emphasised that Nigeria needs a David to rescue the nation. At a Youth Conference in Abuja, organised by Rev Fr John Chinenye Oluoma of the Abuja Archdiocese, Obi clearly stated that Nigeria must raise a David capable of defeating the Goliath within its polity to forge ahead. "Today, at the David and Goliath conference in Abuja, aimed at empowering Nigerian youths to confront their challenges, I made it clear that the Goliaths in Nigeria’s political landscape are the politicians who divert public funds for personal gain. I told the youths that these politicians are the primary Goliaths because they refuse to prioritise the country's interests. All critical sectors—security, power, healthcare, and education—are suffering because of the leaders’ corrupt tendencies. The youth delegates at the conference posed tough questions about overcoming the Goliath in their lives as Nigerians. From their questions, I identified the key areas where Nigeria is failing: security, education, health, and unemployment. I challenged the youth to be realistic in their pursuits—live within their means and reject artificial lifestyles—as a way to conquer the Goliath in their lives. E-sign. NDC Primaries Hold Nationwide May 29 The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has made clarifications regarding its scheduled Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries. The primaries are still scheduled to hold nationwide on May 29, 2026, in keeping with the original May 28 and 29 timetable. However, in view of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and the resulting public holidays, major transportation and logistical challenges have arisen, including the non-availability of flights. Consequently, many aspirants who were in Abuja for the screening exercise, as well as members of the screening team, are currently stranded in Abuja. Consequently, the party has decided that May 28 should be used for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, consultative meetings, and other preparations, while the actual primaries will now hold on May 29. The teams will use May 28 to also hold meetings with stakeholders, party elders, as well as aspirants in their respective states. No agencies of the state, viz: Police, INEC, DSS, etc., are to play any role in the programmes and meetings of May 28. Any activities carried out outside these guidelines would be unauthorized and deemed illegal. The processes of the primaries on May 29 will be as follows: 1. Presidential affirmation 2. National Assembly primaries/affirmation 3. State Assembly primaries/affirmation 4. Governorship primaries/affirmation The respective teams will collate and process all results and forward them to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will announce the results. No state executive or team has the mandate to announce any results. We call for understanding and urge all participants to conduct themselves responsibly, as the party has zero tolerance for violence, disorderly conduct, and hooliganism. Kwara 2027: Group slams Ajaikaye on Offa/Oyun/lfelodun representation …says he isn’t a grassrooter for the race A group, Voice for Good Governance, (VGG) based in Kwara State, has slammed Dr. Rafiu Ajaikaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, over his interest for representing in the National Assembly for the constituents of Offa/Oyun//lfelodun federal constituency in the state, saying he is not a grassroot politician who will be able to win the poll. In a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, signed by Kayode Olorunsola, who speaks for the group, and titled: “The Ajaikaye Gamble: Why APC’s Ticket Choice in Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Will Test Kwara’s New Political Order”, CGG examined the political dynamics in the state regarding the chances of aspirants for the political position and rated Ajaikaye having zero grassroots structure that could guarantee him winner of the poll. "The statement reads in part: ”The race for the All Progressives Congress ticket in Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency is shaping up to be more than a contest between aspirants. It’s a referendum on how political power is being built in Kwara State after the 2019 “Otoge” revolution. At the center of that debate is Dr. Rafiu Ajaikaye, Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Recounting the personality of Ajaikaye as merely a journalist who is not having the required political base in his constituency, CGG said:” Ajaikaye’s public profile was built in journalism before he moved into government in 2019. As Chief Press Secretary, he has become the administration’s front-facing communicator, handling press statements, media engagements, and the defense of government policy. That role has made him visible statewide. But visibility in the press room doesn’t automatically translate to votes in ward meetings. Unlike many federal constituency aspirants in Kwara South, Ajaikaye has not spent years building an independent ward-by-ward structure, running constituency projects, or holding elective office at the local level. His political capital is tied to his position in government and his relationship with the governor. “The candidacy conversation is happening against a backdrop of speculation about the governor’s post-2027 plans. After dismantling the Saraki political structure in 2019, the AbdulRazaq administration now faces questions about what replaces it. Kwara politics has historically been organized around strongman-led structures that extend from the state capital to the grassroots. The Saraki model lasted four decades. The current administration has signaled intent to build a structure of its own, with loyalists placed in key positions across the state. Ajaikaye fits that pattern. He is widely described as a protégé of the governor. If he secures the APC ticket and wins the seat, it would be the clearest sign yet that the administration’s structure is moving beyond the Government House into the National Assembly. “The comparison to the Saraki dynasty isn’t accidental. Both models rely on a central figure building a network of protégés who hold office and extend influence. The difference is that the new structure is still being tested for depth and durability”, it argued. Hinting on Ajaikaye’s inability in delivering dividends of democracy if elected member of the House of Representatives for the federal constituency, the group says : “Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun has a political culture that rewards local presence. Candidates who have worked the wards, funded small projects, and maintained consistent contact with community leaders tend to outperform candidates who rely solely on state-level backing. The constituency also carries unique challenges. Parts of Ifelodun LGA, including Ajaikaye’s hometown of Alabe, have experienced security incidents linked to banditry and insurgency in recent years. For voters in those areas, the immediate concerns are security, access to roads, schools, and economic opportunity. In that environment, voters often ask two questions: Can this candidate bring federal presence and projects? Is this candidate accessible and interested in the constituency beyond the election season? A candidate without an established grassroots network starts with a gap on both questions. “The APC’s calculation in Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun is straightforward. Ajaikaye offers direct access to the governor and the state’s administrative machinery. That access can translate to projects, appointments, and campaign resources. But it doesn’t automatically solve the problem of mobilization on election day. In Kwara South, elections are often won or lost on the strength of ward structures, youth groups, and local leaders who can turn out voters. The Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition groups still maintain active structures in the constituency. If the APC fields a candidate perceived as lacking grassroots depth, the opposition has a clear opening to frame the race as “government candidate versus the people.” That framing was effective in 2019. It could resurface if the ticket goes to a candidate seen as an outsider to local political networks.“ It also reflected on what the forthcoming APC primary could be, saying: ”The APC primary will do two things: First, it will show whether the party’s internal process prioritizes loyalty to the state structure or rewards independent political organization. Second, it will signal how much influence the governor’s office can directly convert into electoral outcomes in Kwara South without the support of established local power brokers. If Ajaikaye wins the primary and the general election, it validates the strategy of building a centralized structure and extending it through surrogates. If he loses, it suggests that Kwara’s electorate still places a premium on candidates who have built their own base over time. "The APC can win Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun with Ajaikaye on the ticket. But the margin for error is smaller. The party’s ward and local government structures would need to carry more of the mobilization load than usual. The risk is clear: if structure doesn’t compensate for the candidate’s gap on the ground, the seat becomes competitive in a way it wouldn’t be with a candidate who has both state backing and a local network. For Kwara politics, the outcome will be an early test of whether the post-Otoge order can replicate the longevity of the order it replaced.“ https://newsense.ng/kwara-2027-group-slams-ajaikaye-on-offa-oyun-lfelodun-representation/

*_For Immediate Release. POMR Press Statement.*_ *Why Peter Obi's political fame is not an online fad.- Media Office.*** The media office of Peter Obi has again noted the deliberate attempt to tag the meteoric political rise of our principal an online movement—often characterised by the highly vocal, youth-driven "Obidient" digital phenomenon. These belyching critics frequently dismissed it as a mere flash in the pan or an internet fad. But the Obi Media office is here to show them a deeper look at political and economic data on Obi revealing that this online trend is heavily anchored in tangible historic antecedents. The digital enthusiasm is essentially a reaction to a proven track record in private corporate governance and public fiscal management which none of his opponents can display. *In Corporate Governance and Financial Prudence.** Long before entering politics, Obi established a reputation in the private sector for asset management and corporate discipline. • The Fidelity Record: He remains notably recognised as the youngest individual to hold the position of Chairman at Fidelity Bank Nigeria. His corporate career spanned executive roles across multiple financial and logistics firms. • The Transition to Public Policy: When his online supporters advocate for "cutting the cost of governance," they are echoing his corporate philosophy. In office, he famously converted private-sector cost-minimisation strategies into state policy, dismantling bloated executive apparatuses. *In The Anambra State Metrics (2006–2014)* The core data justifying the online momentum stems from his two tenures as Governor of Anambra State. His administration utilised the Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS), mapping state development directly to Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The table below breaks down the key performance indicators from his administration that form the bedrock of his modern political profile: *The Digital Alignment*. The alignment between Obi’s actual antecedents and the modern online trend boils down to three primary socio-economic pillars: The " *Go and Verify"* Mandate: The internet movement adopted this catchphrase because Obi's public policy claims—unlike typical political rhetoric—were easily cross-referenced with public records, central bank data, and independent peer reviews (such as the Nigeria Governors' Forum state assessments). • *The Anti-Corruption Narrative:* In a political landscape defined by systemic leakages, an antecedent of leaving measurable fiscal surpluses makes his digital platform highly attractive to a youth demographic desperate for structural transparency. • *Human Capital Focus:* His current online advocacy—criticising high borrowing thresholds, public office luxury spending, and declining per capita metrics—is deeply authentic because it mirrors the exact frugal, education-first policies he executed a decade prior. Ultimately, therefore, Peter Obi Media office is insisting based on empirical evidence adduced above and supported by the figures below that the online trend is not a synthetic social media fabrication but the digital amplification of a pre-existing blueprint of governance that stands out in Nigeria's modern political history. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻_Here’s a paraphrased version of the text in a standard tone:_ "**Key Achievements of Obi's Tenure by 2014** **Fiscal Contributions:** He left behind certified assets totaling #75 billion and around $500 million in cash and sovereign bonds for his successor. **Education:** Anambra faced challenges with low enrollment of male children and inadequate infrastructure. He restored schools to missionary management and provided direct funding, resulting in Anambra achieving the top position in WAEC/NECO performance rankings. **Security and Infrastructure:** The region of Onitsha and its surroundings experienced high crime rates and poorly developed road networks. He constructed over 658 kilometres of both urban and rural roads and systematically supported local vigilante groups to enhance economic stability. **Public Integrity:** The state often had confrontations with anti-corruption agencies. Throughout his tenure and afterwards, he maintained an unblemished record, with no post-office legal issues from the EFCC or security agencies related to fund misappropriation." E-sign. Ibrahim Umar. New Video Emerges Over Rescue Operation as Security Operative Appeals for Backup ... (VIDEO) Fresh concerns have emerged over the ongoing rescue operation for abducted teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following a distress message reportedly from a security operative involved in the mission. The appeal comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to rescue victims kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities in the Ogbomosho axis of the state. In a video circulating online, the operative appealed for urgent reinforcement, suggesting that security personnel on the ground were facing serious operational challenges while pursuing the abductors. “In this video, the only thing you can help me do now is for you to share. Battlefield is not smiling on us. If you come across this video, the only thing you can help me do is share it as much as you can,” the operative said. “We need on-chamber backup. Share it until it reaches the right people that will be able to send us backup. We are not flying like a wave. Mains are going down. On-chamber backup needed.” The development has further heightened anxiety among residents and families of the abducted victims, especially after reports that some security operatives were injured during rescue operations following explosions from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by the kidnappers around the Old Oyo National Park. Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier confirmed that members of the joint security team, including operatives of the Amotekun Corps and military personnel, sustained injuries during the operation and were receiving treatment. The governor also assured residents that the government would continue to deploy both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students. Security agencies are yet to officially react to the latest viral video, but coordinated operations involving the military, police, Amotekun Corps and other security outfits are ongoing across the affected communities. The attacks, which occurred on Friday, led to the abduction of dozens of pupils, students and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, deepening concerns over insecurity in rural communities across the state. https://newsense.ng/new-video-emerges-over-rescue-operation-as-security-operative-appeals-for-backup-in-ogbomosho-abduction-crisis-watch/

Abducted Oyo Vice Principal Begs FG, Makinde, CAN for Rescue in Distress Video Fresh concerns have emerged over the abduction of students and staff members of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, following the release of a distress video by one of the victims. In the video sighted on Sunday, Mrs. Alamu, identified as the Vice Principal of the school, appealed to the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, the Christian Association of Nigeria and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and secure their release. Speaking from captivity, the visibly distressed school administrator said she and several students and staff members had remained with their abductors since the attack on Friday. “I am Mrs. Alamu. I am the principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government of Oyo State. On Friday around 9:30, we were attacked by a certain group of people and a good number of us were abducted, the staff and the students as well, and we have been here since Friday,” she said. She pleaded with authorities to ensure a peaceful resolution to prevent loss of lives. “Today, I am making this video to ask for help from everyone, starting from the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Oyo State Government, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and all well-meaning Nigerians, that they should come to our help and settle this thing peacefully so that our lives will not be lost,” she added. The victims were abducted during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday. The Oyo State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, stating that armed hoodlums riding motorcycles invaded the schools and abducted pupils, students and staff members, including Mrs. Alamu. The Command also confirmed the killing of an Assistant Headmaster identified as Mr. Adesiyan during the attack, while an okada rider was reportedly shot dead after resisting attempts by the attackers to seize his motorcycle. Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified rescue operations across the affected communities, with the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, leading tactical and intelligence operations aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators. The Oyo State Government has since ordered the reopening of schools in Oriire and neighbouring local government areas following the deployment of additional security operatives to the area. https://newsense.ng/abducted-oyo-vice-principal-begs-fg-makinde-can-for-rescue-in-distress-video-watch/

Press Statement NOMINATION FORMS: NDC MAKES SPECIAL DISCOUNTS FOR WOMEN, YOUTHS, PWD The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has restated its commitment to ensuring that women, the youth and persons living with disabilities are fully integrated into the electioneering process in Nigeria, and also present themselves for elective positions in the 2027 general elections. This is in keeping with a key promise of the new party to carry every Nigerian, both at home and in the Diaspora along. A statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said that “the fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building”. According to the NDC scribe, “Women, due to cultural and other inhibitions, have also been largely receiving the short end of the democracy stick. They, therefore need some form of affirmative action to give them the needed push to participate and contest”. He said this is so, because the NDC feels that Nigeria would be short-changing itself if it unwittingly shuts out about 50 per cent of its population, as represented by women, from the democratic process. To this effect, Enekweizu reaffirmed that all women aspirants on the platform of the NDC are to pay 50 per cent of the advertised costs of both the Expression of Interest Forms currently on sale, as well the Nomination Forms which is currently on sale. Similarly, aspirants aged between 18 years and 35 years are also to pay 50 per cent of the advertised fees, while Persons Living with Disabilities are to pay 25 per cent of the advertised fees. The statement also clarified that while Presidential, Governorship and National Assembly Forms are to be obtained at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, those for the State Houses of Assembly are to be collected at the party state office in their respective States. Addressing the gathering on behalf of the caucus, Hon. Ogene said the visit was aimed at reassuring the leadership of the party of the lawmakers’ commitment to the ideals of the NDC and their determination to serve Nigerians through effective opposition politics. “This evening, we are here as members of the House of Representatives Caucus of the NDC to reassure you of our commitment to serve the people of Nigeria in keeping with the motto of our party, service to the people,” Ogene stated. The Minority Leader stressed that the caucus would remain focused on ensuring accountability and democratic governance in the country. “In rendering this service, we will hold the government of the day accountable to the people so that they would render to the Nigerian people the basic necessities associated with democracy and civil rule,” he said. Ogene described the NDC as the leading opposition force in the National Assembly, particularly in the House of Representatives, adding that the party’s growing numbers would strengthen its voice nationally and internationally. “Your Excellencies, we are now the major opposition party in Parliament, especially the House of Representatives from where we operate and with this number our voice will be strengthened, it will be heard, it will revibrate across not just Nigeria but across the world to hold the government to their responsibilities,” he declared. He further assured the party leadership of the caucus’ unwavering allegiance to both the NDC and the Nigerian people. “We assure you of our commitment, we assure you of our loyalty to the party, and we assure you of our loyalty to the Nigerian people. Thank you for receiving us, Yiour Excellencies,” Ogene added. Responding on behalf of Senator Dickson and other party leaders, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso commended the lawmakers for their loyalty and dedication to the party, describing loyalty as a rare virtue in contemporary Nigerian politics. “Your Excellency, the leader of our party, the NDC, Senator Dickson, your Excellency, the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter O’Dea. Honourable members, your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, on behalf of my humble self, the leader, and of course the former Governor of Anambra State, and all other leaders, the young men and women who are here, I would like to welcome you to the Leader’s House,” Kwankwaso said. We appreciate you and we want to assure you on behalf of the leader and the party that we’ll continue to do whatever it takes to carry you with us so that together we can succeed,” he stated. Kwankwaso also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to register with the NDC and participate actively in the electoral process ahead of the next general elections. “Let me take the opportunity also to urge Nigerians to ensure that they register with the NDC and also register with INEC as voters. That will give everybody opportunity to bring the required positive change that is coming by the grace of God in 2027,” he said. The former Kano governor further charged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across their constituencies, particularly among youths and supporters of political change. “I also want to urge our members, all of you, to go back to our constituencies, mobilise our people, especially the young men and women, and of course the nationalists that are supporting the change we are talking about in this country,” Kwankwaso added.i https://newsense.ng/ndc-reps-caucus-pledges-unrelenting-opposition-role-loyalty-to-party-ahead-of-2027/

Obi, Kwankwaso Back NDC As Party Zones 2027 Presidency To South, 2031 To North Abuja witnessed a major political realignment on Saturday as key opposition figures across Nigeria converged at the maiden national convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, jointly declared that Nigeria’s democracy must not be allowed to slide into a one-party state ahead of the 2027 general elections. The high-profile convention, held in Abuja on Saturday, May 9, 2026, drew delegates, party leaders, political stakeholders, youths and supporters from across the federation, as the emerging opposition coalition formally launched what its leaders described as a nationwide movement to “rescue Nigeria from insecurity, poverty, injustice and bad governance.” The convention also produced major constitutional and political resolutions, including the formal zoning of the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria and the 2031 presidential ticket to the North as part of an agreed rotational arrangement aimed at promoting national balance, inclusion and political stability. Delegates at the convention further endorsed a four-year rotational presidency framework, which party leaders said would help stabilise the country, reduce regional grievances and strengthen national unity. The landmark resolutions were adopted after a motion moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi during proceedings at the convention. The convention equally ratified the composition of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), following a motion moved by Senator Victor Umeh, while amendments were also made to sections of the party’s constitution as part of efforts to strengthen the internal structure and ideological foundation of the NDC. Earlier in the proceedings, the National Chairman of the NDC formally declared the convention open, charging delegates to remain committed to democratic ideals, national unity and the collective vision of building a credible alternative political platform for Nigerians. The Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, in his welcome address, warmly received delegates from across the country and described the gathering as a defining moment in the evolution of opposition politics in Nigeria. He commended party faithful and stakeholders for their commitment to the party’s growth within a short period of its emergence. In a passionate address that electrified delegates at the convention arena, Obi declared that the NDC represented a platform for “national liberation,” insisting that the opposition would resist every attempt to undermine democracy and credible elections in the country. Obi, who disclosed that he and his supporters had now become part of the NDC family after political engagements with other opposition platforms, accused beneficiaries of Nigeria’s democracy and judicial system of allegedly turning into agents of democratic destruction. “Today in Nigeria, we are seeing beneficiaries of democracy, beneficiaries of the judiciary and beneficiaries of good governance turn themselves into agents of destroying democracy and injustice,” he said. The former presidential candidate commended the leadership of the NDC for insisting that Nigeria must remain a multiparty democracy, warning that any attempt to entrench one-party dominance would be resisted by Nigerians. “We cannot have one party in Nigeria. Nigeria must have democracy. Those who think there will be no free and fair elections in 2027 should rethink because Nigerians will insist on credible elections,” Obi declared. Painting a grim picture of the nation’s socio-economic condition, Obi lamented rising insecurity, unemployment and widespread poverty, claiming that over 140 million Nigerians were living in multidimensional poverty while millions of youths remained unemployed or underemployed. He said many Nigerians now live in fear, uncertain whether family members who leave home daily would safely return. According to him, Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, hunger and economic hardship were not signs of a poor nation, but evidence of a country “looted into poverty.” “Nigeria is not poor. Nigeria was looted into poverty, and we are coming to reverse that situation,” he stated. Obi further said the NDC would focus on moving the country “from consumption to production,” while prioritising national unity, justice, security and economic productivity across all regions. He also dismissed insinuations that opposition leaders joining the NDC were motivated by political transactions, insisting that the coalition was driven by principles and a shared desire to build a “new Nigeria.” “We are not changing parties for transactions. We are here because we want to build a new Nigeria that is possible,” he said. In his keynote address, Dickson described the convention as a historic turning point in Nigeria’s democratic evolution, saying the NDC was founded to preserve multiparty democracy, protect civil liberties and offer Nigerians a credible alternative platform. The former Bayelsa governor recounted his long political history in opposition politics dating back to 1998, noting that he had consistently resisted intimidation, inducement and political pressure throughout his career. “In me, you have a hard-boiled opposition operative,” Dickson declared to loud applause from delegates. He said the political convergence around the NDC would permanently alter Nigeria’s political landscape, stressing that the party was rapidly growing into a national movement. According to him, millions of Nigerians from across the country had already identified with the party within a few months of its formation because of growing public frustration over governance and democratic decline. Dickson called on the judiciary, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission to protect democratic rights and guarantee credible elections in 2027. “We count on all institutions of government to ensure that democratic rights are respected and that free and fair elections are guaranteed,” he said. Speaking further on the zoning arrangement adopted by the convention, Dickson said the decision to allocate the 2027 presidential ticket to the South and the 2031 slot to the North reflected the party’s commitment to fairness, equal citizenship and national stability. According to him, the NDC was determined to build a political culture anchored on inclusion rather than domination. “We want a balanced and stable Nigeria. We do not want a Nigeria of divisions and grievances,” he stated. He said the four-year rotational arrangement endorsed by the convention would help deepen trust among Nigeria’s diverse regions while reinforcing national cohesion. Dickson also used the occasion to unveil the ideological direction of the NDC, saying the party intended to evolve into a stable, enduring and principle-driven political institution comparable to enduring political movements around the world. “We do not want a transactional party that changes arrangement every election season. We want the NDC to outlive all of us,” he said. The NDC leader particularly appealed to young Nigerians and women to take ownership of the party, describing them as the real beneficiaries and future custodians of the political movement. Also addressing the convention, Kwankwaso said Nigeria was currently facing one of the most difficult periods in its history due to poor leadership, worsening insecurity and economic hardship. The former Kano governor said the country had failed to adequately position itself for changing global realities because of governance failures. According to him, millions of Nigerians had been displaced by insecurity, while investments, education and infrastructure had continued to deteriorate under the weight of poor governance. “Insecurity has created widows and orphans across the land. Investments are fleeing and the education sector is collapsing,” he lamented. Kwankwaso, however, said Nigeria’s history showed that national progress often emerged through broad-based political alliances and coalitions. Drawing references from historical political alliances involving leaders such as Nnamdi Azikiwe and Aminu Kano, he argued that the NDC coalition represented another historic opportunity for national unity and democratic renewal. He openly backed the party’s decision to zone the presidential ticket to the South, describing it as a step toward fairness, healing and national cohesion. “This presents a true opportunity for national healing,” Kwankwaso stated. He added that the NDC would prioritise leadership based on competence rather than ethnic or religious considerations, while working to restore Nigeria’s dignity both locally and internationally. Party insiders at the convention said the ratification of the National Working Committee and amendments to portions of the party constitution were designed to strengthen internal democracy, clarify party structures and position the NDC as a long-term ideological platform rather than a temporary electoral alliance. Saturday’s convention ended with chants of “A New Nigeria Is Possible” from party supporters as opposition leaders vowed to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. The convention is expected to reshape ongoing political realignments across the country as opposition figures continue consultations aimed at building what many observers now see as a formidable coalition capable of challenging the ruling establishment in the next general elections. https://newsense.ng/obi-kwankwaso-back-ndc-as-party-zones-2027-presidency-to-south-2031-to-north/

Yesufu Dumps ADC, Joins NDC, Declares Bid for FCT Senate Seat Prominent activist and political figure, Aisha Yesufu, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring her intention to contest the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat. Yesufu made the announcement on Wednesday via her official X account, citing her continued political alignment with former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom she described as a symbol of hope for a functional Nigeria. According to her, the decision to switch parties was driven by a deeper understanding of the country’s political direction and her commitment to supporting Obi’s leadership. “The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she stated. She explained that her initial decision to join the ADC was influenced by her early support for Obi, noting that her latest move is in fulfilment of a personal commitment. “When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC,” she said. Yesufu further disclosed that her move to the NDC goes beyond membership, as she is now formally entering the race for the FCT senatorial seat. “This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she added. Obi, Kwankwaso Join NDC as Coalition Politics Gains Momentum A fresh wave of political realignment appears to be taking shape in Nigeria as former presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso were officially handed membership cards of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), signalling their formal entry into the emerging political bloc. The high-profile event drew party leaders, lawmakers, and supporters from across the country, reinforcing what stakeholders described as a strategic step toward building a formidable, broad-based coalition aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections. Presiding over the ceremony, the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, welcomed the duo into the fold, characterising their entry as a major milestone in the NDC’s expansion and national outreach. He reiterated that the party is anchored on ideological principles centred on integrity, inclusiveness, and service delivery, with deliberate emphasis on youth and women empowerment. “We are united in purpose, and we appreciate the value you bring into this movement. Together, we will unfold the political processes within the party in a way that is fair, transparent, and progressive,” Dickson stated, while expressing gratitude to supporters both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. In the same vein, the National Chairman of the party, Moses Cleopas, described the development as a defining moment, not only for the NDC but for the broader political direction of the country. He urged members to remain steadfast in their commitment to what he termed a collective mission of national renewal. “We are inspired by God to lead this party in the mission to rescue Nigeria,” Cleopas said. Speaking after receiving his membership card, Kwankwaso revealed that his decision to join the NDC followed extensive consultations and a convergence of policy ideas, particularly in key sectors such as education, youth development, and national cohesion. “We came here to familiarise ourselves with the ideology, the blueprint, and everything this movement stands for. From our discussions, it is clear that we share common ground,” he noted, adding that the platform offers a credible pathway for inclusive governance and development. He further called on Nigerians, especially aspirants seeking elective positions, to take advantage of the party’s registration window and actively engage in its internal processes, while reaffirming his commitment to unity, peace, and progress. On his part, Obi pledged unwavering support for the coalition, stressing the urgency of refocusing national priorities toward addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. He lamented the high level of economic inactivity among citizens, warning that such trends could hinder national growth if left unchecked. “It is unacceptable that over 50 percent of our population is not actively participating in productive activities that can move this country forward,” Obi said. He also advocated for an end to internal political conflicts and called for a unified approach to governance, emphasising the need to confront poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship. https://newsense.ng/20205-2/

PRP Dep. Chairman Tunde Ali, APC’s Hon. Agbonayinma, NNPP’s Guber Candidate, Others Join NDC The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has continued its political expansion ahead of the 2027 general elections as prominent politicians from across the country formally joined the party at a well-attended reception held in Abuja. The National Leader of the party, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and the National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, alongside members of the National Working Committee, Saturday, received the new entrants in what party leaders described as a growing wave of confidence in the NDC nationwide. Among those who formally joined the party were former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Comrade Babatunde Alli; NNPP governorship candidate in the 2023 election in Taraba State, Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya; and former member of the House of Representatives and ex-board member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, all of whom joined with thousands of their supporters and political structure. A key highlight of the event was the formal decoration of the new entrants with the NDC fez caps and the presentation of official membership cards, symbolising their full integration into the party. Senator Dickson, while welcoming the new members, said their decision to join the NDC reflects growing confidence in the party’s vision for national renewal and inclusive governance. The National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, also urged the new entrants to uphold the party’s core values and work within its structures to strengthen internal cohesion and national reach. Speaking at the event, Comrade Babatunde F. Alli said his resignation from the PRP followed deep reflection on internal party dynamics. “Every political party in this country needs inclusivity, youth participation, and fair processes. When those principles are weakened, it becomes difficult for some of us to remain. The emergence of the NDC has given me renewed hope that politics can be done differently, with fairness and purpose,” he stated. Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya, who was the NNPP governorship candidate in Taraba State in 2023, declared full support for the party from the grassroots level. “From the polling unit, ward, local government, and state level, we are joining the NDC in total. We have built a foundation already; what remains is to complete the structure, and that structure is the NDC. Insha’Allah, 2027 is our time, and we are fully committed to taking the message of the NDC to Taraba State,” the former guber candidate declared. In his remarks, Hon. Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma expressed concern over the state of the nation, while affirming confidence in the NDC as a credible alternative. He said, “Nigeria is bleeding and searching for direction. What we were promised as ‘Renewed Hope’ has, for many Nigerians, turned into renewed hopelessness. Our country is blessed, yet badly managed. We must confront corruption and rebuild trust in governance. I believe the NDC offers a platform for that renewal and for restoring hope to Nigerians.” The event marks another significant milestone for the NDC as it continues to attract high-profile political actors and strengthen its national structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. https://newsense.ng/prp-dep-chairman-tunde-ali-apcs-hon-agbonayinma-nnpps-guber-candidate-others-join-ndc/
