The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has told President Muhammadu Buhari to probe all past governments since 1999. The PDP, in a statement by its Director of Publicity in the state, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, on Thursday, alleged that President Buhari was selective in his plans to recover looted funds and prosecute corrupt public officials under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration alone. The party, said though it supports efforts to rid the country of corruption, Buhari’s selective approach was ridiculous. The party wondered why anti-corruption agencies were yet to go after loyalists of the All Progressives Congress, APC. According to PDP “It is important to stress that we will not allow him to make selective prosecution of corrupt persons as the battle against corruption must be total. “We have taken due cognizance of the fact that since President Buhari assumed office on May 29, Nigerians are daily getting accustomed to declarations about corruption and how Mr. President’s administration is gearing up to take decisive actions on such development. “It is getting alarming that the only agenda that Buhari seems to have is to ridicule the tenure of his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, through the numerous declarations that seem to suggest that every action of that regime was corrupt, and obviously this is not true. “Therefore, our intention is to awaken Buhari to the fact that there remains many assignments of the nation begging for attention and sadly enough, he does not seem to recognise this fact as his attitude continues to suggest that corruption remains the only problem that Nigeria faces.” The PDP said Buhari’s latest accusation that former ministers who served during the Jonathan government sold one million barrels of oil per day was not only sensational but a mere gimmick to divert the attention of Nigerians. The party said since Buhari became President, he has failed to address the issue of fuel scarcity, and the sale of fuel above the approved pump price, while insurgency had assumed a more serious dimension. The party said, “We also wish to remind Buhari that the issue of stealing petroleum is not a new development in our nation, it is a crime that dates back to many decades. So we query what he stand to gain by seeking to attach this crime to the Jonathan administration alone. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/24/buharis-probe-of-only-jonathans-government-ridiculous-selective-pdp/ |

By Chris Ochayi ABUJA: The Catholic Arch-Bishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to carry out his anti-corruption fight in a way that will not be seen as humiliating suspects. Cardinal Onaiyekan, who spoke at an dinner organized for Catholics in Politics, Tuesday evening at the Church of the Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja, further advised the administration that its actions in prosecuting anti-graft war are not to be seen as persecution. Cardinal-Onaiyekan According to him, “We have to tackle dishonesty and I believe we need to retrieve stolen goods, especially those that are just piling up other peoples money. While we do that, it is my strong feeling that we should try to avoid as much as possible humiliating or disgracing people who may indeed have tried their best to serve the nation. Prominent politicians, who graced the dinner, themed; “Cardinal-Catholic in Politics” include, former National Chairman of defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, National Chairman of All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun and ex-Governor Orji Ujor Kalu of Abia state. The Cardinal, who pointed out that fighting corruption goes beyond making few arrests here and there, therefore urged President Buhari to carry out his anti-corruption fight in a way that will not be seen as selective. Onaiyekan insisted that the fight against corruption can only succeed where there is transparency and honesty. “How to do this and keep these two elements together requires a lot of sagacity and clear mindedness. But we should pray for our leaders to be granted the grace. “We must be clear minded on this matter and not allow ourselves to be naïve thinking that it is just enough to make few arrests here and there and the matter is settled. Let us pray that God will guide our nation.” Others are former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, former Minster of state for Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Chuka Odom, Senator Ndoma Egba, former Deputy Governor of Plateau state, Mrs. Paulline Tallen, DG, National Orientation Agency, NOA, chief Mike Omeri, and former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Celestine Omeiha among others http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/corruption-dont-humiliate-suspects-onaiyekan-tells-buhari/ |

Splashme:I expected this kind of swiftness in the implementation of the National Conference. Buhari is infested with Boko haram mentality. He knows what he's doing |
The President should reverse it to assuage the feelings of Ndigbo - Ekueme Former Vice President of Nigeria in the Second Republic, Dr. Alex Ekwueme has said that the plan to bring Boko Haram detainees to Aguata Prisons in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was hatched during the former President Jonathan’s administration, but was resisted and protested against by the people which made the past administration to drop the idea. Speaking with newsmen at Aguluzigbo, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State during the end of tenure Thanksgiving Ceremony of Chief Victor Umeh as APGA Chairman, Chief Ekwueme said, “I am aware that the plan of bringing Boko Haram detainees to Aguata prisons in Ekwulobia came up a while ago and there was reasonable protest to the then President Jonathan against it and he dropped the plan. “I was out of the country when I heard that Boko Haram detainees were brought to Aguata Prisons in Ekwulobia, Anambra State. I started wondering how the idea of bringing them to the South East and my local government area came up again after the people thought the matter has been rested. “I am sure the new President must have seen the records and proposal and decided to implement it, but since there was initial protest against the relocation of the detainees to the South East, I’m sure President Buhari will do something to assuage the feelings of the people of the South East,” he said. On the alleged delay in appointing ministers, Chief Ekwueme said he cannot start passing judgment now on the President because “every leader has his leadership style, everybody will not approach that exalted office with the same style. You have to watch and assess each person based on his style. The important thing is that we get the right result. “Another important thing is that we have peace, prosperity and unity, and better quality of life as Nigeria attains her God given-position as a great nation and leader in the comity of nations. “So, I wish the President well in running the affairs of Nigeria. I cannot start assessing his performance now, it is too early,” he said. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/relocation-of-boko-haram-inmates-hatched-during-jonathans-govt-ekwueme/#sthash.8NRMAev7.dpuf |
