A year later.........








" No baby Ade. Bad! Bad" i grabbed the chubby little troublemaker, he was pulling the tray i left on the table.I carried him into my arm while the tray on the table crashed to the floor. My sitting room was a big mess, the cushions were on the floor. There was a puddle of water in the middle of the room, all thanks to baby Adeolu. I shrieked, pulling my hand away. The little devil had bitten my little finger. He was grinning happily while spittle dribbled down his chin. I placed him on the rug, made to retrieve the cushions and the little man pulled down another one.



" Daddy will be home soon! we have to tidy up on time " i complained. " naughty Ade"




He laughed and i grabbed him into my arms before he could dip his little fingers into the water on the ground. My phone rang, and i picked it up.





" Happy anniversary best friend" Linda shouted happily." How are you celebrating your first wedding anniversary? "




" Hello best friend" i said, " thank you! I should be sunbathing on some romantic island but here i am chasing after Ade! You won't believe how naughty your godson has been! My nerves are frayed already!"




My wedding and Ade' s birth had brought us close. We became even closer during her own wedding ceremony. She was so emotional because both of her parents weren't alive to see her walk down the aisle. Her fiancé' s grandma too didn't help matters. She seemed to find fault with everything Linda did, she always had something to complain about until i advised her to put the old woman in her place. The wedding had been a success in the end, everyone was teary eyed when the beautiful ceremony ended and grandma had cried the most, hugging Linda and welcoming her to the family. She had no choice tho, she had met a match in Linda. Her mother_in law had also reunited with her ex_ husband on the wedding day and they renewed their vows few weeks later although Tosin was yet to embrace his father.





She laughed heartily." Why don't you get a maid?"






" Someone comes to clean the house thrice a week. The wash man comes for our laundry on weekends. What else do i need a live_ in maid for?. What's up with you?"







" Guess!" Linda said, excitedly."







" Tosin bought you a new car " i said, " Perfect wedding gift".






" No. Its something better. I am pregnant!" She said happily.






" Wow! congrats girl! that's so fast.....hmmmn" i said, considering the fact that the wedding took place only five months ago.





We both laughed knowingly." We have been hard at work" She said.




" I am so happy for you Mrs.Williams. I welcome you to the club of sleepless nights and emotional rollercoaster days but i can assure you it is worth it." i said.




She roared with laughter. " Thank you for the warm welcome Ma' am".






" You are welcome" i said with laughter.




" I could babysit Ade while you go out with your boo tonight."



" Awww. Thank you..... His grandma has already offered to babysit him for us. You also need some alone time tonight with your boo or have you told him already?" I replied.



" No. Ermmm... well don't tell anyone yet, OK?"



" Alright. How's Vicky? i haven't seen her this week and her line is not available. She promised to come take Ade for a walk". I said





She sighed." She traveled out of the country with Dantata again. Honestly, i don't know what is going on with her. She has become so.....distanced since i came back from my honeymoon. Do you think she could still be in love with Tosin?"







" That is ridiculous! the only guy she has eyes for is Dantata. She has been through a lot and she might still feel displaced and lonely. You are married, Auntie Maggie is in prison and your dad is late. She's bound to feel lonely. I invited her to stay with us as long as she want but she didn't want to be a burden to us so she declined it, although she didn't actually say it. Dantata is good for her, he will treat her well. If junketting all over the world will make her happy then i think she deserves it. Give her time, let her know she has a friend in you and she will come to trust you with her problems in time." I said.




" Whew! i was worried sick. Thank you " Linda said.



The honk of a car sounded.



" Kelvin is back already! " i exclaimed." I still haven't put my sitting room in order".




She laughed. " I also have to pick Kelly from school"


" Hows she doing?"



" She's fine. She can identify her alphabets now. She's also reading little by little. " She replied.


" She will eventually overcome" i said.



" I am optimistic that she will. Talk to you later bestie! don't get knocked up tonight" she joked.



I laughed." I will try not to. Talk to you later" i disconnected the call, squatting down to retrieve the fallen cushions.



The door opened and Kelvin walked in. He reached for baby Ade, kissing me on my cheek without batting an eyelid at the mess in the room.



" How are you Wifey?" he asked.




" I am fine hubby"




" Mind stepping out with me?" He said, pulling my hand, i followed him out of the room. I paused in shock, staring at the new sleek black car in the compound. He fished out the key from his pocket, dropped it in my hand. I hugged him happily.





" Happy Anniversary baby" he said with a kiss.




" Awww......baby i didn't get anything for you..." I trailed off" this is just.....too much"



" You did." He replied, pointing to our son in his arms." He's the best gift i have ever received"






I hugged him,ran to the car happily and opened the door.The sweet scent of fresh roses filled my nostril. There was a bouquet of it in the car. I picked up the bunch of roses, in amazement.






" How? how did you get these my love? fresh roses......"




" Nah. Nah" he laughed " i can't tell you about that "




" What do you say we start the night early? let's take Ade to his grandma." I said, getting on my tiptoes to kiss him.






" That's one grand idea" he laughed.





" DA_DA" baby Ade squealed suddenly.





We both laughed heartily.




" Wow! he just called me dad! i feel on top of the world!" He screamed at the top of his lungs." and i just won myself the sum of fifty thousand naira.I bet he would say DA_DA before MA_MA. Wifey when do i get my money?"




" Oh come on! Can't i pay with kisses?"




He considered it briefly. " Can i have kisses for breakfast for the rest of our lives?"

He captured my lips in a kiss." Nice doing business with you, Mrs. Adediwura "




" I love you baby". I said, returning his kiss.





" I love you more" he replied.





We both laughed happily.He placed his arm around my shoulder and we walked back into our messy but love filled home.

" Ama We are here" I nudged her awake.

She blinked her eyes open and smiled at me " Wow! Lome at last! God bless Togo" she said alighting out of the bus.


The journey was peaceful and uneventful. The driver drove at a slow pace and since most of the passengers were middle age they didn't complain. Lome is a beautiful city, i had heard about her beauty but i was stunned at the sight of the beautiful street lights and the tall skyscrapers. People were going up and down, Ama and i stood on the boulevard of Lome looking like a couple of lost kids. The unspoken question hung heavily in the air between us ' Where to'?


" Are we going to stand here all day?" Ama asked.

" let's look for a cheap hotel"

" Hotel! No way am going to a hotel!"

I laughed at her naivety until tears rolled down my cheeks " Seriously Ama! where would we sleep if not in a hotel?"

" But......but..... that's where Hampo ( Slang for hoe/ LovePeddler) stay."

" No! They stay in brothels and guest houses" What do i know myself about where they stay, i only said that to change her mind. " Come on "


We moved along the streets, searching for a cheap hotel, we walked like what seem like an eternity to us.

" Hey Frere (bro) " A young boy called out to us. " Are you lost?"

We ignored him and kept walking. I looked back and saw him in a heated argument with two older guys. They ran and caught up with us.

" Hey we know you are lost" The older of the trio said. " We have been seeing the two of you going round in circles."

" Usually we try to help just to pick pockets" he continued.

" What's stopping you this time" I said in my meanest voice.

" I don't know. Am king, this is lion." He pointed to the smaller boy. " This is Tiger" he said pointing at the third boy.

" Just point us to where we can get a cheap hotel and leave us the hell alone!" I barked at him.

The trio burst into laughter.

" Only rich men sleep in hotels" Lion said.

" Or rich couple " Tiger chipped in.

" We only trying to help bro, come this way" King said.

The trio led us to a slum street. They told one bady joke after the other laughing at the top of their voices. The boys left us at the entrance of the hotel promising to check up on us the next day. Ama and i sighed in relief, happy to be rid of the urchins. We paid for a little room with a tiny bathroom and water closet. Ama used the bathroom first while i went to buy us fried yam with peppered chicken. Later that night, we laid on the cosy little bed in each other ' s arms. Absently my hands caressed Ama ' s body, i leaned in and kiss her on the lips, she opened her mouth a little and our tongue met and danced. This was a first for the both of us.

" I should sleep on the floor" I heard myself say.

" Afraid of ravishing me?" She laughed.

" Ama....." My voice was thick with lust.

" Kojo you worry too much. I trust you. We would sleep on the same bed "

I wasn't sure if i trusted myself but i knew i won't ever do anything to harm her.

Someone knocked loudly on our door. I got up and opened the door, the three boys strolled into the room as if they had paid for it. King sat on the edge of the bed while Lion and Tiger sprawled on the floor. I groaned in frustration.


" Where is your wife " Lion asked.

" what do you want?" I shouted at them.

" Easy bro ". King said. " We only being friendly"

Ama came out of the bathroom, a towel tied around her chest to her knee " Morning boys, thanks for yesterday"


They all gawked at her and stammered out greetings to her, i shoved them out, i locked the door and waited with them outside until Ama called us back in.


" You know guys we appreciate your help but we would also appreciate it if you stay away from us " I said. " Forever!"

" You are new here, you need friends" Tiger said.

" Yes friends like us " lion seconded.

King went out and came back with Plates of pack rice and salad. During the meal, i asked them about their real names, families and background. King now 18, ran away from at home 13. Lion and Tiger only 14 years old grew up on the streets. Somehow i felt kinship with the homeless trio. King and i had something in common: ' Our love of money' . They told me they were also business partners and i could join the business if i wanted. They treated Ama with respect and kept to themselves whenever she was in the same vicinity as them.

I was reluctant to partner with them but our money was slowly running out, i had no other choice than to partner with them. We would wear our best clothes and go to the beaches where we pick the pockets of rich tourist. King reassured me the tourists were too rich to care about the little we took from them. King would brag about making it big and recruiting talented " fingers" who would operate his ' business' . I shared my dreams of seeking out the devil to collect wealth from him but he laughed it off saying " Seeking out the devil is too long a process."

We got to Ajah within matter of an hour I drove down to our estate, everywhere looked changed to me, I called shade to come outside.


She came out and told the gateman to open the gate, I drove in and parked behind Mum’s car.

Deji got down first while I opened the Boot, Shade came to me and hugged me tight before pecking e telling me how much she missed me.


The gateman came closer and shaked me telling me he missed me so much, I gave him the I go see you later look and walked inside the house.

Immediately Michael saw me he ran to me and hugged me, I missed him so much I saw my mum in the parlour deji and I prostrated which she answered positively before asking what we going to eat, I looked surprised and happy, when last have I eaten in my own house.

I left the parlour and walked to my old room, it looked tidied, am sure its shade handwork, I heard her calling my name asking if I was in the room.

Shade: Egbon mi, It’s your name have been seeing on television everyday, oga o

Me:I miss you so much sis, come here (I dragged her closer hugging her tight)

Shade:I miss you more bro, I saw some expensive cloths and a wristwatch, are they mine to.

Me: Yes dear, Cara bought them for you, oh she even gave me one of her shirt to give you, she signed on it

I called Cara who was so happy to talk to shade on the phone, My sister is very beautiful that sometimes I pursue guys away from her, I called Michael over to the room leaving Deji alone with mumsie.
