Politics / Re: Can Nigeria Police Be Reformed? How? by spoOne: 12:55am On Sep 01, 2009
NO! The ranking files are way too corrupt for there to be any kind of meaningful reform. One possible solution would be to form a new state and city police force that cater only to their respective states, while the EFCC operates as a Federal police with jurisdiction across state lines – similar to the FBI in the US. And the minimum requirement for entry into the City force would be University Degree or equivalent degree through the police academy. Entry into the State Police would be at least 4 years service in the City Police Force. And minimum pre-req for entry into the EFCC would be 4 years service in the State Police.

I feel sorry for the foot soldiers and the ND communities needing development – they will be worse off in due course. But their leaders (the Henry Okahs) will go on to become the next corrupt government officials. Sad to think that so many lost their lives in the hands of the JTF.
Politics / Re: Cecilia Ibru’s Many untold Sins by spoOne: 11:24pm On Aug 31, 2009
NL is ruthless when it comes to thrashing elites that have squandered public trust – and in some wacky way, this is seems ok. Since this is the worst that can happen to these people, anyway. But in this particular instance, however, the thrashing is discouraged – leniency is sort, accomplishments are projected to support the same. Would some of us be called hypocrites? Are we softer on this particular elite because she is a women, or the name Ibru means more to us than a few mismanaged 100 billion Naira? I can’t help but wonder if the name was “other”, we would want due process under the law before casting stones. Maybe this is why this the politics section.
