all in all, we are living dangeriously. there is a man tagged the best president nigeria has ever seen. he has been arround since 1999. he is still in charge. he imposed the dull man on us.
as long as that man remains in charge, nigeria will continue to go back day by day.
nigerians must in one voice ask obj to go.
old fools like him must learn to give way to new bloods especially when things are not going well.
there is one mugabe in zimbabwe and there is another mugabe in nigeria.
our mugabe must leave. the beast in him came onboard the day nigeria and nigerians refused him third term.
God Pls push obasanjo out for us that we will begin to move forward as he has become a stumbling block to the country.
obj must learn to leave with his evils loads.
Now you are talking gibberish – OBJ is not at the helm, go-slow yar’adua is. He’s responsible for moving the country forward, not Obj. If he’s too sick to do the job, he should handover to his VP. In the mean time get your gears ready for the march on Lasgiddi – some Star (or a beverage of your choice), your favorite snack, and meet us there. And stop the pointless talk – Mugabe is a dictator and a tyrant who has held on to power for over 30 yrs. Please allow Baba to enjoy his retirement – in retrospect, I wish he had gotten his 3rd term; we won’t be in this state of perpetual leadership vacuum.

A man messed the state for EIGHT solid years and another came in ILLEGALLY to deplete an already almost exhausted state treasury and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole came in and in the face of a PDP controlled Local Government and Legislative and DWINDLING monthly federal Allocation and he is trying to fix things ONE STEP at a time and the best u can offer is mouth diarrhoea?
The same despicable crook that bank-rolled Oshiom Ole’s campaign – how ironic is that, or should I say fitting?

Osumbo was thrown out and I am in full support of that, but your boss has not done anything for the state – you should take the message to him, that the electorate will send him packing, if he’s not accountable. In the mean time twist and turn all you want, you are not going to fool anyone. He has fooled us for the last time. When he start performing I will be the first to hail him on this forum and others. And please tell him to stay away from the US with his lies.

Benin — Edo state chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) Dr. Samson Isibor was yesterday arrested by the men of Edo state police command over alleged defamatory statements against the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Edo state chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) Dr. Samson Isibor was yesterday arrested by the men of Edo state police command over alleged defamatory statements against the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested him at the premises of the state high Court on Sapele road where he was moved to the state police command, Benin city, Edo state

Dr. Isibor was said to have been interrogated for several hours by a five-man team of the anti-vice unit of the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID).

In a petition from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Isibor was said to have between March 23 and 29, 2009 allegedly made some defamatory statements in one of the dailies which portrayed Oshiomhole in bad light .

Dr. Isibor made statements to the men of the anti-vice unit of the criminal investigation outfit at about 1. 45 pm.

As at the time of filling this report, a team of lawyers were making arrangement for his release.

The Edo State police image maker, A.S.P Mr. Peter Ogboi said he was not aware of the incident and that the case had not been brought to his attention

Please whats all these belly aching and crappy talk meant to achieve? Comrade Oshiomhole has been in power for less than one year under a not too cooperative legislative arm of government. He has started measures to massively boost the IGR of Edo State. Beautification of Benin City is going on, road rehabilitation and construction is in progress, unemployment is being aggressively tackled with placement of skilled youths in various fields of expertise. All these and lots more in the face of dwindling monthly allocation from the Federal Government! Haba!! What do u guys want?
When the imposter professor was governor, what did u guys say?
Where someone else was governor in this state for EIGHT (cool years, what were his achievements?
Anyone with half a brain knows all these crappy talks come from a particular political party who are obsessed with ruling forever in Nigeria.
Sorry, a change has come and it has come to stay!!
Lets us all join comrade Oshiomhole and build Edo State
P/S; as for @kosovo, your ignorance is mind boggling!!! Is comrade oshiomhole in charge of N.U.T (a national body) strike?
Bra, you are on your own on this one - maybe you are one of his thugs reeking havoc on the good people of Edo state. Osunbor did a lot more for the people of Edo state than this loud mouth communist wannabe goat. The truth of the matter is that this idiot is a corrupt hypocrite – he was when he was NLC leader, and he still is today.

His achievements thus far, as a governor of Edo state:
1. Increased joblessness
2. increased robbery
3. Increased kidnapping – essentially unheard of in Benin before Oshiom Ole
4. Increased thuggery – intimidating law-abiding citizens of the state
5. Now “marshal law” in the state targeting any one that calls him out for mis-leading the electorate and misappropriation. I guess he’s taking a page out of Starling’s tyrannical ideology.

I can go on forever – the one good thing is that this fool will be sent packing come 2011.

Your excuse on his behalf that the legislature is PDP, does not hold water. If he’s performing, the people of the state will support him 100%, and ensure his mandates are met. Your have forgotten how he got into this position – if the people of Edo state didn’t support him, you think he’ll be the governor?

--- Hinting at his frustration to offer his services to Nigeria, Mr. Igwemezie said, “as a Diaspora person, I kept coming back, knocking, to help Nigeria. On the other hand I can’t knock forever.”

Problem of railway in Nigeria

Mr. Igwemezie, who wants to build a standard guage railway system from Lagos to Calabar, believes that Nigeria is a place where railway service is going to be “profitable and successful because of its size and population and because we have a demography similar to that in Europe”. However, he said, the bane of railway in Nigeria is that “we have brought the wrong people to help us”.

Hey Porker,

Patrick Utomi is a political economist, management lecturer and entrepreneur. He was the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Nigerian April 2007 elections.

Born February 6, 1956, Utomi is a fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria and was a Senior Faculty of the Lagos Business School (Pan African University) as Director of the Centre for Applied Economics

I'm speechless.Why?

I want a firearm but again, to get gun na one thing, to use blast person na another. And trust our NPF, even if you shoot a robber with a licensed firearm, they will turn the tables on you.Next thing, you are facing charges for murder, man slaughter, arm robbering, aggravated assault, public negligence and refusal to pay "fine" grin grin
You got it Bra, I'll rather pay the bribe, negotiate the ransom - afterall the same police rob us all the time on the highway for N100. If you kill one of them (or one of their boys), while robbing you at your home, they'll concoct some story why they had to take you out. I'll rather they kill each other while they're trying to split the money they stole from me. I can always make more money with my education and good job.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 8:26pm On Sep 29, 2009
We are far from being a Switzerland - I am sure before it bacame a developed country with strong law and order, their citizens were not allowed to own guns. My take is, law and order, socio/economic advancement, first, then gun law debate.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 8:16pm On Sep 29, 2009
Jakumo:
I hear you, Spot, but may I remind you that Nigerian law does prescribe a gallows death penalty for premeditated capital murder, and any registered gun owner who forgets that fact does so at their peril.

Given a choice, however, between imminent death at the hands of invading robbers, or a possible death penalty for opening fire in ambiguous circumstances, most gun owners under siege would instinctively shoot first, hire a lawyer later and let God sort out the morality considerations after the smoke clears.
Every adult man and woman in Switzerland who has completed their compulsory military service is entitled to keep their assault rifle at home and to use it for self-defence if needed. Despite the prevalence of such serious firepower in the hands of civilians, Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in all of Europe, simply because everone there talks softly but carries a very big stick .
But the other side of the coin is that the armed criminal knows you are packing, so he ambushes you and shoots first. Don’t forget you are a law-abiding citizen, with a job and family to worry about.

Bra, we can do this all day long – gun ownership works in the US because a law-abiding citizen has backup – the police. In a chaotic Nigeria, you have no backup.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 8:02pm On Sep 29, 2009
Jakumo:
Well actually I have no desire to kill, but would do so in a hearbeat if my home were invaded by murderers and I was within reach of my hardware.
If everyone is allowed to own a side arm, your home won't be the battle ground, it will be on your way to work, to school, to the airport, etc.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 7:56pm On Sep 29, 2009
I hope I am not being misunderstood here - I am not against gun ownership, but gun ownership without law and order equates to total anarchy.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 7:48pm On Sep 29, 2009
Jakumo:
The genie is already out of the bottle regarding gun ownership in Nigeria. Commencing during the lead-up to Nigeria's most recent federal and state elections, contesting politicians imported shipping container-loads of AK47 rifles and distributed them to jobless young men for the purpose of intimidating opposition voters at the polls.

Those light machine guns have since then become the ubiquitous weapon of choice for blood-thirsty home invasion gangs and highway bandits. In parts of Nigeria today, forested areas alongside main highways reek with the smell of the dead, who were herded there and killed by swarms of robbers that also stash their guns in the same bush.

Any relaxation of Nigerian gun laws that enhances the firepower of LAW ABIDING civilians would serve to balance the equation of terror, so as to give pause for thought to outlaws planning mayhem, instilling in their thick skulls a measure of reluctance to die from retaliatory fusillades laid down by a once helpless populace.

If guns are outlawed, then only outlaws will have guns.
If you feel that strongly about it, then get your gun and kill anybody that threatens your life. I can assure you it is not easy for a law abiding citizen to take a life.

Beaf:
There are a lot of contradictions in what you've said. How can corrupt govt and police protect anybody? Maybe one day, but nobody has that time, we have waited too long.

We just need to vomit the system out of our guts. They say, God helps those who help themselves. Yeah, self help is the in thing.
There are no contradictions here at all – Nigeria is a work in progress. That is, there are more people who think Nigeria can get better. Just 10 years ago, you can get killed if you say anything bad about the government – so things are changing albeit slow – progress nonetheless.

If on the other hand majority of the populace living in Nigeria feels Nigeria is now a failed state, then you wouldn’t need any permission to get your own side arm – there will be no law – just survival of the fittest. In which case Armageddon in Nigeria is closer than we think.
PoliticsRe: Should Private Guns Be Allowed In Nigeria? by spoOne: 7:05pm On Sep 29, 2009
Absolutely Not!!

The Police and the government need to do more to protect the law abiding citizens of Nigeria. After this is done, then we can talk about citizen’s right to bear arms.
Nigeria is in chaos right now, NPF is marred with miscreants, the president is weak, the judiciary system is as corrupt as the politicians - citizens carrying guns will only exacerbate the situation. We can not like animals in the jungle, advocate survival of the fittest.

Can you imagine a doctor, lawyer, engineer, CEO, or a law abiding citizen, getting into gun battle with a hardened criminal? And, don’t even think of getting a bodyguard – why will he want to protect your behind when he can rob you (worse yet, kill you) with impunity; and take your money – and become a warlord.

Maybe we should revisit the woes of other failed states in Africa and the middle east.

My one advice to you would be that you try to avoid asking contributors to identify themselves – Anonymity is one of the reasons this forum is the most popular for Naija folks. They can vent their frustrations with the polity and socio-economic woes of our beloved nation without fear of reprisal. Furthermore, avoid using words that can not be found in simple English thesaurus – folks on this forum come from all works of life from the agbero to medical doctors. Keep it simple so your view point can be understood.

PoliticsPolice Arrest Edo Crpp Chairman - Oshiom Ole in action! by spoOne(op): 4:29am On Sep 29, 2009
By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—Edo State chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), Dr. Samson Isibor, was yesterday arrested by operatives of the state police command over alleged defamatory statements against Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Officials of the CID unit of the state Police command had trailed Dr. Isbor to the High Court premises along Sapele road, Benin City, where he was whisked to the state command.

But reacting yesterday, the state government through the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. John Mayaki, dissociated the state government from Isibor’s travails, saying that “it has to do with the police and not the state government”.

According to a petition from the state government, Isibor is accused of allegedly defaming the name of the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, between March 23 to 29, 2009, and at the same time intended to incite the people of the state against the governor.

At about 1:40pm yesterday when newsmen visited the SCID unit of the command, Dr. Isibor was sighted making statements to the men of the anti-vice unit of the criminal investigation outfit.

The ordeal of the CRPP boss, Vanguard learnt, may be connected with his recent attacks on the state governor, based on his policies which, according to Isibor, wereharsh on the people.

Abuja — The little hope raised by President Umaru Musa Yar'adua on assumption of office has vanished due to the emptiness of the 7-Point-Agenda, indecision and failure to provide leadership, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has said.

A communiqué issued at the end of the associations's two-day quarterly meeting in Abuja and signed by its chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa also chided the president for not admitting mistakes.

Balarabe Musa had said that the main thrust of the meeting is the dangerous slide of Nigerian democracy into one party state dictatorship and the lethargy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescue the nation's economy from the abyss.

"The inordinate ambition and obsession to rule for 60 years is driving Nigeria towards a failed state; where the individual rather than the state provides himself security, provides himself electricity, provides himself education, medicare, water etc. We are compelled to ask, what is the fate of majority of our compatriots who cannot provide security, electricity, and water individually to themselves or take their children to school in Ghana, US or UK? Or what of those who have no money to pay for medical bills abroad?" the communiqué said.
