Leo Messi opened his interview with ‘La Nacion’ by saying: ”I’m from a neighbourhood like any other, that stays the same as always. Rosario is the place where I was born, and I spent my childhood there very happily, and that will never change regardless of goals or fame.”

The Argentine revealed anecdotes of his childhood, and noted that his love for soccer started at a really early age. He recalled: ”Where I grew up, I learned to play football and to love the game. My mom would send me to run errands, however, I only went if they let me do them with the ball.”

Leo Messi noted who first inspired him into the sport in the first place, he mentioned: ”I do not know if my first ball was bought by my mother and father or my grandmother, Celia, however, I’m certain that she was the one who insisted that I start taking part in football in a team.”

The Barca star also commented on why he never thought of playing for Spain: ”Argentina is my country, my family and my way of expressing myself. They always ask me why I don’t have the Spanish accent in spite of everything, and the reply is straightforward. I do not need the Spanish accent or to lose the identification I’ve with my country.”

According to English publication ‘The Sun‘, Spanish giants Madrid are preparing a €350m bid for PSG star Neymar in an attempt to persuade the French side to part with their star man.

The report states that sources close to Madrid have informed ‘The Sun‘ that Neymar’s contract at the Parc des Princes contains a release clause stipulating that he may leave the club for a fee of €300m, however not until September 1, the day after the closing of the transfer window.

There has been a relentless circus surrounding the top job at Real Madrid however ‘Los Blancos’ have still not found a suitable candidate. However, one name that continues to resurface is that of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.



Club hierarchy at Real Madrid was not anticipating the shock departure of Zinedine Zidane, and his choice to leave has left the club floundering a little. After an initial sweep of the market, Madrid has realised that finding a replacement to the Frenchman won’t be an easy job.

At first, all eyes went to Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, who had not too long ago renewed his contract, however, based on Spanish radio station ‘COPE’, Real ruled that option out due to the difficulty of possible negotiations with Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy.

Regardless of having their first probes rejected by the Argentine, ‘Los Merengues’ were still holding out some hope for Pochettino, who has never hidden his desire to manage Real, although negotiations can be long, onerous and very sophisticated.

Lionel Messi once again finished the season as the top goalscorer across Europe’s top 5 leagues, but who made up the rest of the top 10?



10. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

30 goals in 39 games. The Argentine suffered a series of injuries throughout the campaign, but that didn’t stop him from reaching the 30-goal mark for the fourth time in his career.

9. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund & Arsenal)

31 goals in 38 games. Despite switching clubs in January, rendering him ineligibil for Arsenal’s run to the Europa League semi-finals, the Gabonese didn’t lose his nose for goals.

8. Luis Suarez (FC Barcelona)

31 goals in 51 games. After being hampered by a knee injury early in the season the Uruguayan refound his scoring form in the league, though he failed to live up to expectations in the Champions League.

7. Edinson Cavani (PSG)

40 goals in 48 games. Another fine season from one of PSG’s most consistent performers in recent years.

6. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

41 goals in 48 games. The England number nine broke the Messi/Ronaldo dominance to emerge as 2017’s top goalscorer and he continued to find the net as the season went on, though it wasn’t enough for a third straight Premier League golden boot.

5. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)

41 goals in 48 games. The powerful Pole continued to show why he is one of Europe’s most-feared strikers as he propelled his side to another Bundesliga title and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

4. Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

41 goals in 47 games. the Italy international finished the season as Serie A’s top goalscorer, whilst he also shone in the Europa League, albeit in a disappointing campaign for his club.

3. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

44 goals in 44 games. the Egyptian enjoyed a simply stunning debut campaign with the ‘Reds’, brekaing all manner of records as he announced his arrival among Europe’s elite forwards.

MOHAMED SALAH may still feature for Egypt in the World Cup this summer regardless of the worrying shoulder injury he sustained in the Champions League final.



The Liverpool winger tangled with Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos in the 26th minute and despite his attempts to play through the ache was substituted off in tears as the Reds went on to lose 3-1 in Kiev.
