Nairaland GeneralJTF South East Operation UDOKA Commander Maj.gen Dada Takes On IPOB Propagandist by Spyetv(op): 6:12pm On Dec 12, 2024
The increase tempo of military operations in both Kinetic and non-kinetic has led to operational achievements of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA resulting to adversary’s casualties, recoveries of arms and ammunition, tame many security challenges bedeviling the entire South East (SE) region.

Appraising the Defence Correspondents from the Defence Headquarters Abuja with the Second – Fourth Quarter of Year 2024 operational achievements of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA, the 38th GOC/Force Commander, Major General Hassan Taiwo Dada noted that JTF OPUK has continued to optimize its operations against the terrorist group in the South East.

Major General Dada revealed how the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA engaged several propagandists in and outside the the Theatre of Operation to curtail dominant IPOB propaganda on social media platforms.

He explained that propagandists have been extensively employed to distribute propaganda content, such as videos, images, and written messages to counter the IPOB/ESN propaganda and narratives.

He noted that, the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA debunked false information, provide alternative perspectives and shape public opinion in support of our operations. This, according the General Dada has further enabled page handlers to share stories, showcase humanitarian efforts and highlight the positive impact of own operations towards developing positive public perception.

Major General Dada also revealed how JTF OPUK troops have been tenacious in ensuring that these sit-at-home orders are often thwarted to ensure economic activities thrive in the South East region, noting that troops of Operation UDOKA have conducted numerous operations and subsidiary operations to deny the ESN freedom of action in OPUK Areas of Operation. Some of the major operations conducted include OP CHANNEL SWEEP, OP RIVER SHIELD, OP DRAGON SPIT and the ongoing OP ARID STRIKE.

The major security threats in the region include the activities of the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) with emphasis on the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) that has continuously inflamed and instigated violence in the SE Region. Others are the IPOB militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), illegal oil bunkering/oil theft as well as weapon and ammunition trafficking. There are also cases of kidnapping for ransom, cultism, assassinations and communal clashes.

Besides kinetic operations, OPUK also engage in a wide variety of non-kinetic operations. Accordingly, the modest efforts of the Division in this regard are worthy of mention. The operational successes recorded so far in OPUK TOO wouldn’t have been possible without some non-kinetic operations. These were aimed at winning the hearts and minds of host communities as well as enhancing intelligence gathering. Besides the several visits and community-based projects executed, other activities include medical outreach, humanitarian support, educational support, engagement of propagandists, collaboration with National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Op CHECKMATE against extortion. For want of time, they would be discussed briefly. Starting with:

Medical outreach in areas like general obstetric consultation, dental care services, eye checks, ancillary laboratory investigations, free drugs/tests and featured health talks on prevalent health issues were carried out at intervals across the AOR.

Free medical outreach was conducted in Akpuoga Nike Community, in Enugu East LGA and Ivo LGA in Ebonyi State respectively, from 1 - 6 July 24. The selected communities were presented with mosquito nets, wheelchairs, crutches and other medical items.

Highlighting the kinetic operations major achievements, General Dada stressed that efforts sustained to check the activities of the terrorists and criminal gangs within the JOA brought some modest achievements were recorded but not without some challenges.

He affirmed that while the potency of the secessionist group has largely been degraded from what it hitherto was, the group of resilient and continues to employ opportunistic attacks on soft and hard targets to portray relevance.

The JTF OP UDOKA has continued to employ many non-kinetic operations to win the hearts and minds of the populace. However, the complex operational environments in the SE have necessitated the continuous conduct of kinetic operations.

The group's activities were primarily concentrated in Anambra and Imo States, however there is a gradual shift to Ebonyi State. The criminals have targeted military and police personnel on duty, especially police that are sparsely stationed in isolated areas.

These attacks are launched to increase their arsenal of weapons and ammunition in an effort to deplete the capability of security forces. About 21 police and the military rifle have been lost to attackers during the period under review. Other activities by the proscribed group that undermine civil security include Sit-at-home orders, kidnapping for ransom, arms and ammunition smuggling and trafficking, illegal oil bunkering, pipeline vandalism as well as assassinations.

In line with the OPUK operational design, it has conducted series of kinetic operations that have significantly improved the security situation within its TOO. These kinetic operations include intensive clearance and raids operations, air interdiction missions, Artillery Fire Mission and attacks on IPOB/ESN camps. Others are anti-kidnapping and rescue operations as well as anti-illegal oil bunkering theft operations.

The sustained operations by troops of OPUK has resulted to an increase in the adversary’s casualties, number of recoveries and a significant reduction in violent crimes reported across the Theatre of Operation.

CrimeGen.musa Hails Clearance Of Military Personnel In North East Abortion Allegation by Spyetv(op): 12:20pm On Nov 09, 2024
The Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has praised the outcome of the Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in Counter-Insurgency Operations in North-East having cleared the military of an alleged termination of approximately 10,000 pregnancies in the North-East.

The Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations in Counter-Insurgency Operations in North-East, which sat for nearly two years, released its findings at the NHRC headquarters in Abuja on Friday

It could be recalled that the report of the panel specifically stated that the allegations of systematic abortions, torture, rape and extra juducial killings levelled against the AFN were false.

General Musa in a press statement signed by Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau hailed the 7- man panel for exonerating the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) from indictments by the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC) and Reuters regarding allegations on forceful abortions and other infractions in the North East.

The CDS therefore commends the 7- man panel led by Justice Abdu Aboki (rtd) for painstakingly carrying out a thorough job since its inauguration in March 2023 by the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.

Gen Musa also reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the defence of human rights and resolve to ensure peace reign in the country.

According to the Defence Chief "no amount of false accusations will distract the AFN from exercising its constitutional mandate of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation".

SpyeTV reports that the 7-man panel headed by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Abdul Aboki, described as false, the allegation that was contained in a special report that was published by a foreign media organisation.

NHRC Senior Human Rights Adviser, Hilary Ogbonna, said there was no evidence to back the allegations in the report.

“For the abortion assault, the panel did not find evidence that the Nigerian Armed Forces committed a systematic secret or policy-bringing abortion in the Northeast to the tune of 10,000 abortions. There was no evidence before the panel to prove that,” he said

In his remarks, NHRC Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu, said the commission would embark on a series of public consultations and conversations on the report to ensure the implementation of the report.

“The NHRC is committed to ensuring that citizens of the Abisari community identified in the report receive compensation and will continue to work with the military and the Office of the Attorney General to ensure that justice is served. Never again shall these kinds of atrocities go unaddressed,” Ojukwu said.

He stated that the commission would hold a civil-military forum where the report and its implementation strategies will be discussed with all stakeholders.

In December 2022, Reuters in its report accused the Nigerian military of perpetuating a series of grave human rights violations during the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East since 2013.

It alleged that the military carried out secret systemic and illegal abortion programmes, ending at least 10,000 pregnancies, recounting the experiences of some alleged victims who claimed to have witnessed the deaths resulting from forced the abortions by the Nigerian army. According to the report, the women were Boko Haram captives rescued by the Nigerian military.

According to the report, the abortions were mostly carried out without the consent of the women and girls.

CrimeCanadian Lady 'adrienne Munju' Bags 11 Years Imprisonment For Importing Drugs by Spyetv(op): 6:39pm On Oct 23, 2024
... Her conviction and stiff penalty will send strong warning to other traffickers, says Marwa

A 41-year-old Canadian lady Adrienne Munju was on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 convicted and sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos for importing 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of synthetic cannabis weighing 35.20 kilograms into Nigeria.

Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi made this known in a press statement made available to SpyeTV News in Abuja on Wednesday.

Babafemi explained that Munju’s conviction followed her arraignment on two counts charge before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of a Federal High Court, Lagos by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, which arrested her at the terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos on Thursday 3rd October 2024 during the inward clearance of in-bound passengers on KLM flight at the ‘D’ Arrival Hall of the airport.

In her statement after her arrest, she had claimed she was recruited to traffic the illicit consignment through an online platform for 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery in Lagos. She said she took the offer because she needed the money to pay for her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.

Justice Dipeolu convicted and sentenced Muju to the term of imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against her by NDLEA. Prosecuting Counsel, Barrister Abu Ibrahim, told the court that the illegal acts of the convict, contravened sections 20(1}(a) and 19 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act (NDLEA) Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the same Act.

Following her guilty plea, the prosecutor called his witness, Angela Mba, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics narrated how the Canadian was arrested with the illicit drugs, after which she tendered some exhibits, which include: two suitcases that were used in concealing the drugs, her Canadian passport, confessional statements, laboratory test analysis reports and samples of the illicit drug. All the tendered exhibits were admitted as Exhibits 1 to 13.

After the conclusion of the review of the facts of the crime, the prosecutor urged the court to convict the Canadian as charged based on the evidence placed before the court, the exhibits tendered and the guilty plea of the defendant. As a result, Justice Dipeolu after reviewing the facts of the case as submitted by Abu Ibrahim convicted the defendant as charged.

After listening to the allocutus by the defendant’s counsel, Justice Dipeolu sentenced Adrienne Munju to six years imprisonment on count one and five years on count two.

The judge however gave the convict an option of N50 million fine on each of the two counts, bringing the total fine to N100 million.

The two counts charge reads: “That you Adrienne Munju, Adult, Female, a Canadian, on or about the 3rd of October, 2024 during the inward clearance of in-bound passengers on KLM flight at the 'D' Arrival Hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja,

Lagos without lawful authority imported 35.20 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, otherwise known as 'Canadian Loud', you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to Section 20(1)(a) and punishable under Section 20(2)(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act (NDLEA) Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

While commending the officers and men of the MMIA Strategic Command involved in the arrest and prosecution of the case as well as the judiciary for speedy adjudication, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) said the prompt conviction and sentencing of the convict as well as the stiff penalty will send a strong warning to foreigners and others who may be contemplating bringing illicit drugs into Nigeria.

CrimeNigerian Army Demands Justice For Ex-soldier's Unlawful Torture By IPOB by Spyetv(op): 4:47pm On Sep 15, 2024
The Nigerian Army has called on all relevant international organizations, including Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court, to take immediate action and hold Simon Ekpa and other IPOB/ Biafra Liberation Army accountable for brutally tortured an ex-soldier, Corporal Toriola Adewale, who honorably retired from the Nigerian Army six years ago.

In a press statement issued by the Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army says villainous acts of terror by Simon Ekpa and his accomplices must come to an end, as justice will soon catch up with them. They can run, but they can not hide forever.

Explaining the heinous act, General Nwachukwu said the Nigerian Army has taken serious note of a disturbing video circulating online, posted by the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of IPOB, Simon Ekpa.

He urges all Nigerians to disregard this malicious video and stand united against the vile acts of terrorism perpetrated against Nigerians, and particularly, the good and law-abiding people of South East Nigeria by IPOB terrorists. It is no gainsaying that an overwhelming majority of Nigerians in the South East and across the nation have already rejected the criminal propaganda spread by IPOB.

In response to these threats, the Nigerian military, in close collaboration with other security agencies, has recently intensified operations aimed at eradicating terrorism and insurgency in the Southeast and other parts of the country. The recent annihilation of key terrorist leaders in identified terrorists' strongholds is clearly indicative of this commitment.

The savage treatment of innocent citizens like ex-corporal Toriola and other law-abiding Nigerians must not be teated with levity.

Nigerian Army will remain steadfast in protecting all Nigerians, including its retired and active personnel from such terror.

CrimeI'm Not Running Away From The Law, I Am Ready To Talk - Andrew Wynne Replies by Spyetv(op): 9:26pm On Sep 02, 2024
Andrew Wynne, the wanted Briton by the Nigeria Police for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration has denied the allegation levelled against him.

Wynne, who spoke on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today from United Kingdom, declaring that he was not aware he had been labelled a fugitive in Nigeria.

The comes a few hours after the Nigeria Police placed a N20m bounty on him along with a Nigerian, Lucky OObiyanb41 years old who has been described as an accomplice.

Addressing journalists on Monday, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, accused the Briton of building a network of sleeper cells to topple the government and plunge the nation into chaos.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wynee declared that he couldn’t have been scheming to destabilise the leadership of a country that accommodated him for 25 years.

In his word, “I am not aware that I am a fugitive. I am not aware that I am running away from the law. I have been visiting Nigeria for 25 years and have had a bookshop in the NLC office right in the centre of Abuja for seven years. All that time, of course, the security forces have paid no interest in me.

“I have always had one nationality. The name on my passport is Andrew Wynne and I operate with a nickname. I think it really started as differentiating in the sense of the broad political education work that I do with the bookshop.

“I am more than happy to talk to the police and have a discussion on WhatsApp or Zoom. I am more than happy to go to London and meet with officials from the Nigerian High Commission. If they want to start a conversation, then I think that is more than adequate.”

Also, Wynne’s wife (names withheld), who also spoke on the programme, distanced her husband from the alleged terror act, saying the allegation was deliberately concocted to witch-hunt him.

CrimeMilitary Advocates For Transparency, Accurate Metering To Tackle Oil Theft by Spyetv(op): 2:11pm On Aug 29, 2024
As part of the operational effort in a bid to eradicate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta Region, the Nigerian military on Thursday has urged International Oil Companies operating in the region IOCs for more transparency, and deployment of accurate metering system.

Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba made the appeal in Abuja while briefing media on the troops operations in six geopolitical zones of the country urging for cooperation of stakeholders in the oil sector as well as cooperation of the local communities.

General Buba emphasized that the military will enforce the monitoring of the prosecution of culprits perpetrating crude oil theft. This is recognised as critical in the fight against crude oil theft.

He noted that during the month of August 2024, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE arrested 54 persons involved in crude oil theft and denied the oil theft of 3,776,500 litres of crude oil, 800,800 litres of AGO, 100 litres of DPK and 27,500 litres of PMS.

Furthermore, troops recovered 163 assorted ammunition and destroyed 94 wooden boats as well as 339 illegal refining sites.

Others recoveries made include over 3,776,500 litres of stolen crude oil, 801,800 litres of illegally refined AGO, 100 litres of DPK and 27,500 litres of PMS amongst other item.

It would be recall that in July the Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote recently accused the IOCs of manipulating prices and obstructing crude oil supply to the refinery and also, local refiners supported Dangote’s claim, prompting the House of Representatives to launch an investigation.

The Nigerian military therefore assured that troops are intensifying operations in the North West, North Central, South East and South South. Our focus is to defeat and dismantle the threat posed by these terrorist.

When Soldiers are killed in the north, they do not go and close down mosques and markets.

But when it happens in southeast, they start behaving like bandits

Many checkpoint there but hoodlums are still operating. What then is the benefit of having military presence?

SpyeTV News believe that with the introduction of a Toll-Free Line/number 08000020204 for reporting security related issues it would assist to proffer pragmatic solutions to the security challenges in the North-West.

The Chief of Army Staff, COAS, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja has said that the killings of 17 of the Nigerian Army’s finest men, who were gruesomely murdered in a reprehensible manner on 14 March 2024 in the Okuama community of Delta State while they went on a legitimate peace-making mission by the very people they are trained, equipped, and took an oath to protect, is highly demoralizing.
General Lagbaja who in a sober mood noted that military profession deals with matters of life and death said when soldiers die in the hands of the enemies of the State, we take it as dying for what the nation has considered a just cause; we celebrate them as gallant heroes.

"It grieves my heart that it took our search and recovery effort over 72 hours to recover some vital organs of the decapitated and disemboweled bodies of my men that were scattered all over the Okuama community by the community youths and their friends.

"I consider it the most barbaric act any citizen or community can commit against the authority of the state, and I must place on record that a lot of restraints have been exercised so far in our search and recovery efforts for missing arms, ammunition, other equipment, and body parts. " he noted

He said the Okuama killing has added to the care of the Nigerian Army and, by extension, the Nigeria state - 10 widows (three of whom are 4, 5, and 8 months pregnant), 21 orphans, and many other dependents which include parents.

While commiserating with the families of the gallant soldiers, General Lagbaja assured the families of the fallen heroes that the Nigerian Army and the good people of this country will not leave them in the cold. We shall do all within our power to provide succor to them and preserve the memories of their departed loved ones.

The COAS assured President Tinubu and all Nigerians that the Nigerian Army remains committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will not be deterred by setbacks such as witnessed in the Okuama community.

"As tasked by Mr President and Commander-In-Chief of our Armed Forces, the Nigerian Army, with the assistance of its sister services and other security agencies, is committed to bringing the perpetrators of the Okuama murder to book and recover all service and personal belongings taken from the murdered troops."he affirmed

The Nigerian Army will continue to seek the cooperation of all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly in the affected area, toward swift and successful conduct of our search and recovery operations.
