Thanks for sharing...
Johnbosco1:
Hello Guys,

You don't get to read this quite often here, nevertheless, you may want to read this.

For those who have gotten their PPR, congrats to y'all. For those who are yet to receive their PPR, you will get it.

When coming to Canada, please get your shit together at the point of entry. Depending on the immigration officer that you will be meeting, they may be nice to you, while others will probably not be. Whatever tone they take with you, remain calm and answer to the best of your knowledge.
Please know the answers to simple questions, such as "What course are you studying?", "What is the name of your school?", "What's the duration of your course of study?", "When will you graduate (month and year)?", "where will you stay (address)?" - They may decide to call your contact should you say you will be staying with a friend - If you said Airbnb, please keep your receipt ready. If you did GIC, I'd suggest you log onto their Portal with your phone and have access to your transactions - be ready to show it.

As a JJC who is coming to Canada for the first time, please come with enough food items. Most airlines offer 23 x 2kg, so I'd suggest you have your clothing in one 23kg and food items in the other 23kg. No go pack cloth full everywhere, unless, of course, you carry better bar de come, otherwise na hunger go first kee u b4 cold and rent go use u play monkey post. Groceries cost o. Research abt Canada outlet (electric socket), if you ft get the appropriate adapter for Naija, I mean the one wey go match ur phone/laptop charger, carry am de come, e go save u a few dollars and waka around.

As per accommodations, you do not need to get here first before before looking for a place to stay. You can start the arrangements from Naija. I find kijiji dot com more secure. But Facebook is even cheaper but dem get plenty scammers. You can sublet a room from a student who is going for a co-op (internship) and may want to lease their room for a period of 4 to 8 months. Subletting is generally cheap, although some of them do inflate the prices of those rooms, but as naija pikin, always negotiate! If you are using Facebook posts to look for accommodations, do not pay until you arrive in Canada, and with your two legs and eyes, see the room. Please don't fall for a housing scam! If you are in doubt, always ask questions.

After getting your study permit at the Airport, ask a security person or a worker where you can get your Social Insurance Number (SIN). Remember to carry your luggage afterward.

Get a USD/CAD prepaid card from your bank in Naija, deposit some funds into it, and come with it. Or you can buy CAD from Aboki and come with it (Remember to check for fakes). No go carry USD enter here and come de change am to CAD for airport, their exchange rate is horrible.

Lyft (a rider app) is generally cheap (as compared to others) in my experience, you can download the app and book a ride to pick you up from the airport. There are also Uber and Airport Taxis, but I find them quite expensive.

The Nigerian community here is pretty much not as strong as our Indian brothers, but you will get to meet Nigerians who are quite good (and I don't mean carrying your burden or catering to your needs). You will also get to meet those who are aloof. If you meet a naija brethren here on the first day, you may think they are "feeling too big" but don't worry, you guys may soon become buddies. Always reach out, you just never can tell.

And don't worry, Nigerians de small for this country. Asians de run the streets, so no allow anybody tell you say pple dn full here, na lie, there's enough space for all of us. Depending on the Province wey u de enter, student work ft hard to get, especially in Ontario, you go suffer small oo, na y I de say, come with food (and money for rent, even if it for a few months b4 you find something doing) otherwise you might get discouraged, which may even lead to depression/break down.

Remember, do not take your eyes off the price!

I wish us success! And I wish us well!

I'm having same issue ih, I generated mbs from access bank with a lien on a particular amount, but when I printed my statement from the bank the total amount reflected in my cleared balance. Will this statement format be different from what is sent to the embassy?
Mamaoseme33:

No, as long as the lien was removed the day your "my bank statement" ticket was created for you by your bank. However, if the lien wasn't removed while creating MBS the money will not reflect in your available bal. Because of the lien. I think GLOBUS bank have a way they do theirs even with lien. But for first bank the lien has to be removed first before the money is moved to your available bal. I hope this helps

It will end in praise

Congratulations on your safe arrival to canada, I remember you saying you did application yourself, please I'd need guidance in filling some details on my form, on the imm294e form i am applying for a post graduate certificate what options should I select?
Ethanuella:
Happy new year everyone.
Landing gist

Left Ibadan to Lagos on the morning of December 31st. My kids were still asleep so I kissed them and cried heavily. I was going to really miss them. Lodged in an hotel close to the airport, slept a little, cried again, and finally left for the airport around 5pm with my husband.

We got to the first gate and they didn’t want to allow my husband in. We gave them what they wanted and he was allowed. Same also happened at the entrance.

Agricultural dept and quarantine asked what I had in my bag, they didn’t even allow me say anything before asking me to do end of the year for them. Sorted them and check in started.

I flew airfrance. The official asked for my enrollment letter, admission letter, and tuition receipt (I paid only deposit, showed them the receipt), was cleared to check in. Check in was very fast because I got there early. Collected my boarding pass and went to wait for preboarding at the new terminal. Said goodbye to my husband and proceeded.

Everything went smooth. We had a 30min delay and flight took off at exactly 12:00 on new year. Couldn’t eat their food. Landed in Paris after 5 hours….then something happened….I got lost.

So there was this guy, his family and two other ladies I hooked up with. Whilst waiting for our connecting flight, he decided to go find something to eat. He called his wife after about an hour and said he was lost and was trying to navigate. He called back and said he was at one gate but will need his boarding pass to cross. His wife couldn’t go because of their kids, she begged me to go. I did

Met up with him in less than 3mins, and that was where the wahala started. ‘Twas a one way in, I couldn’t go back. We went round the airport, and asked questions, but no one could understand or reply us well…even the immigration and security officers. Everyone spoke French

After about 3 hours of merry-go-rounding, including preboarding for a flight we didn’t need just so we could go out and connect through another door, took two trains and one bus, we were still lost. In my mind, I was like “my village people don finally catch me”. God so good, my connecting flight was still in 2hrs.

Finally met an official who could understand us a little but couldn’t speak. She snapped our pictures and was able to locate our other group. She kinda linked us up, and all of us connected.

We connected and touched down toronto. I was scared because I hadn’t paid my fees yet. We got there and immigration asked all of us to line up, collected our LOI together, printed our study permit, called our names, and asked us to form another line. There were just 3 CbBSA officers on seat, others were on holidays for the new year.

I already had my study permit at hand, and joined the queue. Got to my turn and was asked if I had meat, I said yes. Asked for the course I was studying, then she stamped my passport, wrote something on it and cleared me to go.

Waited again for my connecting flight to Halifax. Got to Halifax, cleared my boxes, couldn’t change money. Called my flat mate, ordered my taxi and got home.

I pray all of us here will have breath-taking testimonies very soon…in Jesus name

Happy new year everyone

Thank you so much for your responses to my question, pls I'd also like to ask, I am paying for a post graduate certificate programme, on the part of level of study, what's the appropriate option to chose? Ans also how do i sign the imm294 form?
MatrixReloaded:

Like I said already, your complete 2 years tuition fee as it was stated on your acceptance letter. Do not put lesser cos that form any misrepresentation will be total refusal.
Your room and boarding is not compulsory to be stated as your will notice asterisk sign for compulsory input. Those ones will be mentioned in your SoP and sighted in your POF. Available funds should be mentioned in the form

Thank you.

The whole tution fees for your entire 2years duration in Canada.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Stardor: 6:22pm On Dec 31, 2023
I mean on the Imm294 form, the part that talks about tuition, room and board and others, then the available funds, am I to fill my complete tuition fee for 2 Years and living expense as well?
TradeSunMoore:

You will put cost of 1 year tuition plus the new 20,000 CAD plus others . But, since course is 2 years, you have to show how you will pay subsequent year fees.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Stardor: 9:39am On Dec 28, 2023

Abigbo:

Good morning guys, please I am in the process of filling my imm294e form, I'm a bit confused on the part of how much to fill as tuition and room and board, my program is a 2 years course, am I to fill tuition for the 2 years or one year tuition amount?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Stardor: 3:41am On Dec 27, 2023
I appreciate your take on this, Thank you.
kweje:

I am quite concerned about some aspects of your response. It is unauthorized and not legal to give a customer’s banking balance or details outside what the client has authorized to a 3rd party. To suggest that IRCC is engaging in this is disturbing.

When an applicant submits a MybankStatement (MBS), IRCC has access to only period given in the SOA via the proper channels.

It would be worrisome if IRCC bank verification goes against privacy acts of clients and banks.

While it is possible to get a request for updated bank statement, it is NOT the norm.

Generally, it is advisable to keep the POF intact while waiting for visa decisions as much as possible.

Anyways.. if any one has proof of those acts let them share for others to learn.

Cheers

All these story. Make I no talk wetin I don experience for this Canada journey.
You will be shocked.
People with genuine account statement dey collect pfl while.....
You know the rest.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Stardor: 3:55pm On Dec 26, 2023
Thank you for the advise.
MatrixReloaded:

No. They will check and if the funds isn't there you will be refused. Nigeria banking system doesn't just freeze your account when you commit fraud and gets reported by financial crime commission. Same way a bureaucracy whom u gave a SOA will fish out the truth about your SOA. They have Insider in all the commercial bank
Firstbank
Zenithbank
GTbank
Access bank
UBA
Heritage
Stanbic
Fidelitybank
Ecobank
Providusbank
All the external agents/reps on this banks will receive your SOA in a screenshot on their admin portal, it will only take few mins to detect misrepresentation on your file. So in such case if you present MyBankStatement, the embassy will locate your SOA on there portal which you provided. So its easier for them to double check than wait on there reps to help them. Often times reps make mistakes or reluctantly pin 📌 misrepresentation that's why they give option of clearing your self whilst sending PFL.
They only do this scrutiny if you are self sponsor or close relative sponsorship. Regardless keep thr funds until u hear the gold news because even as you present MyBankStatement they can make u-turn and ask you for updated bank statement to be sure the funds isn't recycled.
So they can tell you to submit a Bankstatement from the date of your submission to the last day before they sent you the message.
E.g(if you submit Dec 1 and remove the money. They might say submit from Oct 1 - Dec 25th.

Pls is it advisable to move huge funds from the account submitted to the embassy after statement has been printed and application has been submitted?

Finally, Nairaland is back.

PPR dn drop, finally guys!
It dropped 30 minutes after my deferral request to was approved. 😂

Timeline:
Submitted application on October 18
Upfront medicals and biometrics had earlier been captured in my 1st application (This is my second application)
No update or progress whatsoever on my dashboard until Dec 18, when I received PPR. Till now, eligibility is still in progress as with background check. Lol

I wanna thank y'all for your contributions on this platform, all of you! Y'all have such a great community. Didn't have to ask many questions because the questions were already asked and the answers provided accordingly, all I needed to do was to read through each page.
