Career / The Ecosystem Of Uncertainty. (life & Tech) by StarOnEarth(m): 11:32am On Sep 08, 2023
A wise man once suggested that’s starting a new venture is a gamble and once you are starting a new business you are trading your sanity, money, time and relationships for potential wealth. It always seem like a good bargain if this potentials are eventually harnessed, but for the 99% that don’t get it right, what is your gain?

Putting little or so much money on a betting platform to make so much money seems like a good bargain if you are part of the 1% that goes on to win an exciting price within few hours, without really doing anything than staking few bucks, but what happens to those 99% of losers, dedicated day and night to find the right odds, the right timing, the right team only to keep losing, what is your gain?

Having someone to love and cherish sounds sweet, especially if the feeling is mutual and ends in a blissful marriage, with lovely kids and a beautiful family. This sounds exactly like everyone lives goal till we fall in that huge percentage of people that really never finds love despite how much love we give and how hard we try. Then what is your gain for trying?

It get worse when you decide to fall into the Ecosystem of uncertainty called “Tech”, despite how unpredictable and uncertain life is already. Creating tech solutions for various problems you perceive in your country, trading your 9-5, health, money, time and even relationships only to fall flat in failure any time you try. You are just so stuck and you just know you have to keep trying even when it looks like within your peers, you are taking 3 step backs yearly despite how hard you try to make a nationally accepted solution. Bruh, what’s your gain for trying?

We often wonder, "What's our reward here?" What's the return on our love, effort, righteousness, knowledge, and constant learning and unlearning?

I realized we’ve been treating life like a transaction, expecting specific rewards for each effort. But life doesn't work that way. It often gives unexpected rewards like lessons and experiences. Jessie Rittenhouse's poem sums it up: we bargain for a penny, ignoring the true value life offers. Embrace uncertainty, redeem unexpected rewards, and increase your bargaining power in life and tech.

The moment has come to establish a strong community because there are many fresh ideas and start-ups emerging in Abuja, unlike Lagos where there is an active community for networking and tech events.

This would give us a venue to network, meet up, discuss ideas, and grow our businesses.

Science/Technology / Nigerian Artificial Intelligence Food Delivery Company, "Foodr Eats" Raises Fund by StarOnEarth(m): 10:55am On Dec 09, 2021
The food delivery industry in Nigeria and Africa in general is about to witness a rave of excellent user experience with Foodr Eats launching their product in Abuja by the 10th of January 2022. Foodr is promising to bring an experience that has never being felt in the industry with its excellent user app and an open delivery system.

Foodr Eats is a logistic and supply Chain Company that allows users order food and drinks from various restaurant close to them on their mobile application and have it delivered to their doorstep using a well scrutinize open delivery system.

SOLVING A PROBLEM
Mayowa Oladipo (Co-Founder and CEO of Foodr Eats) says “Despite the many challenges facing Nigeria economy, the food and restaurant segment has remain growing rapidly. Like many areas of the economy, its long term potential stands out in a global context because of the Nigeria sizeable population, currently standing at around 200 million. But one will still wonder, why do some restaurant close up or go bankrupt even though everyone eats daily and why do user still find it hard, time wasting and expensive to order a meal online and have it delivered to them in the shortest period of time?
We have learnt so far that the two major factor that helps a restaurant grow aside having a lovely meal is “visibility” and “accessibility” and with the explosion and increase of internet users in Nigeria, it has become a case of urgency to allow a lot of people have access to infinite scrolls of various dishes through their mobile app and have someone deliver it to them within a short period
A lot of restaurant close up in their first year because customers could not find them or they don’t have the service to get their food over to their customers. In the current degraded Nigeria economy, it is quite difficult to rent a luxury and an open seeing space for a restaurant business or delivery system to get your food over. You can be in an environment and not know the restaurant around you which subjects you to go as far as taking a ride to get a meal to eat and this is where we come in.”

BUILDING A FOOD CONCENTRIC ECOSYSTEM
The development team which includes Ifeoluwa Alao Ojo (CTO and Co-founder) and Ikechukwu Nwankwo (CPO and co-founder) says “We are trying to build a whole tech ecosystem around a food delivery app to create an experience that can’t be easily forgotten by our users. A lot of great and life changing features will be gradually added to the app as our MVP is ready for launch. We would build an eco-system around our user’s meals, with machine learning algorithm aimed at studying the user’s interactions with the meals and then serve and recommend more and more meals for users, giving them that experience that will last a long time.

TEAM, FUNDING AND LAUNCH
“We have a team of highly motivated individuals to help achieve our milestones till we get accurate funding to scale all around the country. We are solely focus on creating that perfect user experience either by using the app, customer support, interaction with delivery merchant and quick refund if need may be. Our team is fully dedicated to satisfy the users and create a cash inflow for our delivery merchant”.
Mayowa Oladipo (CEO and Co-founder) made it known that “Foodr Eats build up process was solely finance by the company founders but recently raised $20,000 to propel their launch in January” on if they were open to more funding “Our dream is to be able to reach the nooks and crannie of Africa and if more funding, partnership or mentorship will the catalyst to speed this dream up, we are definitely open to that.”

In preparation of the big launch in Abuja, Foodr Eats team are working on getting more foods on their platform and scrutinizing the drivers and riders that are willing to be on the platform. When asked about the choice of location of the companies launch, Mayowa said “Abuja is a fast rising state in Nigeria with high spending power and easy access to move around and deliver product with a reasonable amount of internet users, it will be reasonable for us to launch our MVP in a controlled environment such as Abuja and gradually spread our wings throughout the nation and Africa in general”.

This piece is really nice. This explains why founders have to try alot of things before scaling at one, why inventors had to do things over and over again before their "eureka" moment. For every step we take, even if it leads to failure there is always a positive point acquired and by the time it accumulates the big breakthrough comes.

Thanks for this.

Career / Being 25 In Naija by StarOnEarth(m): 12:26am On Aug 17, 2020
QUARTER LIFE CRISIS: LIFE OF A NAIJA YOUTH

One major fact every Nigerian youth would admit to is that growing up here and being successful is as difficult and unstable as NEPA light, one moment it seems like the star is so bright and your sky is all lit up and another moment you are looking for a candlelight to find your path and sometimes, the forces in charge of the country seems not to be doing anything in your favour. The sad part of it all is that when you are bent on making your riches legally, the society has its way of making one feel lazy, dumb, stupid and depressed. Well, one thing I have learnt is not to blame the society for how they react to how I make my money or how I live my life.

Being in my twenties in Naija seems more like a curse and a blessing at the same time, you can be very smart and still be confused, the fear of failure or letting your love ones down keeps ringing inside the head but yet the feeling of future regret needs to be avoided at all cost. Its scares me to be in my 50s and reminiscing about steps I didn’t take, the startup I didn’t create, opportunity I didn’t see and even ladies I didn’t date. This is why I keep trying different things lately but unfortunately, I have failed at most things I tried doing.

One major thing that has always affected me and a lot of youth like me is getting funding, especially guys that are given birth to with a “Plastic spoon” like me. The most likely way to get funds for a startup is to get a job, work like a machine and save up.

Before we got jobs, most of us felt we were been left-back in the world and all of our friends have gone farther than us and after getting a job “typical Naija 9 – 5” it now seems like we don’t have a life of our own and we are bottled up in the rat race, The thought of even getting married in this situation is as scary as entering a lion den. You see how you can be smart and confused at the same time in this country?

What would even tension you the most is seeing people that didn’t even take life serious doing better than you. See, this is Nigeria, I am used to that already, the society celebrates mediocrity of all such, especially when it entertains them or massage their ego. People don’t really pay attention to things that can really change their life. Well, that’s a matter for another article.

I know I am currently sounding like a frustrated Naija youth, but honestly, I am not frustrated, maybe I was at some point but it didn’t really last, I am just trying to make you guys relate to the reality of being a Naija youth. In the real sense I am grateful for this process, because with what I have learnt and still learning about growing up, I am confident that being 25 today is the beginning of extreme greatness for me.

There are certain way I have felt since I clocked 20 which I am sure I have not been the only one feeling this way. Feelings like:

Being unsure
Scared
Feeling of rejection
Desperation
Confusion
Anxiety
And a lot more, but you know what? I’m cool with all this feeling, the one that scares me the most is the feeling of regret in my 50s.

Today is my 25th birthday, it’s been a crazy year for me, having moved to a new state, new job and trying a new startup, ill like to share some life fact that has helped keep my insanity in check.

1. “Life is a race but we all have different starting line”:

See fam! It’s easy to compare ourselves with various people but things we don’t seem to put into consideration is that we all have a different background, different family fortune, different grace and luck. Someone might be born on the same day as you but that doesn’t mean your success would start and end on the same day. Imagine you comparing yourself with “kiki osinbajo” because she is age mate with you while your dad is just a civil servant. This doesn’t mean you won’t be successful too but have it in mind that the starting line is quite different.

2. “The best takes times”:
Two diggers are digging the ground to find resources to sell, one saw stones and the other saw diamond. Who do you think saw his first? Anytime I feel like my business is not tapping and I see others doing well with theirs, this is one phrase I use to console myself.

3. “There is a high probability that a stranger will support your business than people that you know”: I use to feel bad when I start a new business and no one on WhatsApp reposts or encourage, then I start to feel like the business will not do well because they don’t find it lucrative enough, then later I found out that strangers who don’t even know me would always repost my work and even give a good review. I remembered when a writer message me that she really wanted to know how to write poems like me. Then I found out that the reason people I know don’t promote is because of “See Finish” since then I don’t let it get to me anymore.

4. “Most people we envy are not doing better”:
Believe this or not, most people we want to be like don’t even want to be like themselves. We are currently in a confusing world where everyone wants each other’s lives, it’s like an endless circle. “Give yourself brain and be the best version of yourself, success is now defined with a clear camera and good background”.

5. 20s is not that fun:
I might be wrong with this but I personally feel like 20s is really for strategic hustling and enjoyment will be the rest of our lives.

6. Good Friendship is better than meaningless romantic relationship: Being in our twenties is that time we engage in so many romantic relationships which is cool and adventurous but neglecting good friendship and connection because we are occupied with one special person can actually stunt our growth.

Its been a crazy 25 years and I'm still hoping to have better days and fulfilling years. Naija is not that bad when you eventually find gold in the land which ill definitely find soon.

Security - Decentralise the Police, given the constitution makes provision for that. Establish a zero-tolerance policy in the Police Force and the Military. This approach is a strategy to eradicate the abuse of power by law enforcement on citizens. Push a bill that allows for a jury of citizens to serve as the balanced check that needed to keep the force accountable. This will reinforce the idea of a government by people in the our democracy.
Nysc - Mandatory 1 year military reserve service for all citizens. Eligible for enrollment by the age of 18 and must be completed by age 35.
Citizen database - for identification

Infrastructure - Leverage the service of the enlisted Nysc members in a Govenrment driven accelerated infrastructural development, obviously cooperation with experts. we'll create 3000 miles of roads and 1500 miles of rail line respectively every year. Increased infrastructural capacity will positively impact investments in logistics and transportation and industrilization.
I'll further deconstruct power distribution, will allow distributors to compete for customers without location restriction.

Education enormous investment in Public schools starting from Elementary all the way up to the University. We'll rennovate our schools, provide adequate supplies for the classrooms, build Federal public Libraries in every capital city.
Open up Federal Universities for international research purposes, sponsor research in Medicines, Science and Technology
Incentivize computer and information technology/science/engineering studies all across the country.

Tourism, allow ease of access for innovative ideas from local start-ups, international brands to launch their businesses. this will be another avenue for job creation creation through small businesses, and possible investment opportunities.

And finally use my execute powers to push for a decentralized federal government, and more independent states, a change to the constitution that will define clearly the rights of persons and institutions and firmly uphold those rights with the necessary checks and balance in place.

This is the most reasonable thing i have seen so far.
