As parents, we become more anxious when our children get to the teenage; 13, 14, or 15years. This feeling increases especially in SS3 when your child is about to write his or her Senior WAEC, and most of this worry comes with the fact that a lot of students fail their WAEC examination or don’t get to pass all their paper in one sitting especially the important subject’s like Maths and English

I was having a chat with my neighbor on a Saturday morning about how our week went. He told me he will like to retire soon and start his own business but his major worry was his last daughter.

Then I paused and asked him why he said so.
He said he wanted her to quickly get into the university before he retires. His major concern was that she may have to write her WAEC twice just like her elder brothers did.

I was surprised so I asked why he thought that.
His take was that WAEC had been set up in a way that most students cannot pass their papers at a sitting
According to him, during her brother’s time, he made sure they went for extra lessons and even employed a private tutor for them but they still had to write the exams twice.

He just wished there was a way his daughter could write her exam in SS2 and quickly move to the university before his retirement
I sensed the worry in his voice so I told him he needs to do something different for his daughter if he doesn’t want her to repeat her exam twice

He was very interested in knowing how. So I told him about the WAEC video lecture.

I had prepared very well for this CITN exam and was so confident after finishing the video lectures twice and answered a lot of past questions and even score 80% in the mock exam I did.

Sitting down in the exam hall with a smile on my face that reflects the assurance of someone that is so sure of success. My docket, pen, and calculator were on my table.


As the exam begins, I read through the instruction first, then started solving the questions. I pick up my calculator to do some calculations and to my amazement, my calculator had stopped working….. “Oh my God, I was doomed”, that is what I said in my mind…… I started sweating profusely and I became so disorganized because the course was 90% calculation.


My confidence started dropping and I noticed I started forgetting what I have read….. my brain was going blank.
I summoned courage and decided to quietly borrow a calculator from a lady beside me, but I was caught and sent out of the exam……… I wept like a baby and went home so hopelessly.

Just as a reminder, it is just 26 days to this diet ICAN exams.

If you are very busy that you could not write last diet ICAN exam, please read this…….
The truth is that, it is not your fault that you are very busy at work,
you are actually busy because you are very relevant at work,
so don’t blame yourself that you could not write ICAN exam for last diet.

Over the weekend, I received WhatsApp chats from some of our students,
they all told me how they have been very busy and that they have not
started preparing for this diet ICAN exam.
The question is that, is it possible to study for ICAN exams if you have a very tight schedule?
YES IT IS.
The next question is, how is that possible?

……You need 1 hour per day for 30 days to finish a paper (inclusive of questions and answers)
……You need 2 hour per day for 30 days to finish 2 papers (inclusive of questions and answers)

You may ask, how can I spare 1 per day?
These are my suggestions;

• You can wake up very early on a daily basis and study for at least 1 hour before going to work.

• You can study for at least 1 hour before going to bed.

• You can study during your break hour at office.

• You can spend at least 12 hours to study on Saturday (not at a stretch though).


• You can spend at least 12 hours to study on Sunday (not at a stretch though).


The reality on ground now is that this diet ICAN exam is on 4th - 6th May 2021
it means you have limited time to prepare, so start preparation NOW.
If you think you are very busy now, you might be busier next diet.

During one of the previous CITN diet exams, one of my students had this issue- overconfidence.

Tobi last diet, finished the syllabus and
solved enough CITN past questions
and was ready to attack CITN from
anywhere CITN chose to pick questions from.
He did not know that he could fail that course.

Tobi had four courses left in Skills level.
He prepared well for two courses and the
other two courses, he did not prepare well for it.

In the exam hall, after attempting the two papers
he did not prepare well for, he did a re-check
to see any aspect that had errors and corrected it.
But for the other courses, he was too sure,
So he felt reviewing the work was not necessary
because he was so certain of what he wrote.

See some disadvantage here:

1. Overconfidence makes you to rate your

competence too high and makes you enter

into situations that are beyond your controls.

At the end of the day, there will be a

disconnection between what you think you know

(perceived ability) and what you actually know (reality).


2. It will allow you to start having

some thoughts that are not reasonable

which eventually leads to failure.


3. Overconfidence will not allow you

to do proper findings on the area of your weakness.

4. It will make you to be intolerant,

you will be so full of yourself,

you won’t want to hear other’s opinions



When CITN result was released,
Tobi with his confidence went to check his result.
Tobi was surprised at the outcome,
He passed the two courses he thought
he did not prepare well for.
And
failed the other two courses he thought
was a concluded matter. He felt disappointed,
and was curious about what happened.

My question to him was,
“Did you review your work before submitting?”

Sometimes, over-confidence will make you
not to review questions properly before giving solutions,
and you’ll end mixing things up-
giving the right answer to the wrong question
and this will lead to failure.


However, it is not an excuse for
lack of confident in yourself.
Believing in your self will come
when you are sure to have done your best
by solving past questions in the Member’s area,
covering the video lecture at least two times,
attending the telegram class and participated.

I trust you will put in your best
into this CITN April diet exam and
make sure you understand the question
before giving solution…. YOU ARE THE BEST…

It is few days to CITN exams……….. EXAMINATION DATES is Tuesday,
13th & Wednesday, 14th April, 2021.
Nothing dey happen, we go face the exam.

Years ago, few days to CITN exam, one of our students called and asked me that
“What are the areas of concentration as I conclude my last minute preparation? ”

I just replied him that “If you had asked me the same question two months ago,
maybe I would have helped you, but it is late now, just keep solving past questions”

Then he asked another question “since I am writing CITN exam for the first time, what are the do’s and don’t ?”

These are the some of the suggested DO’S and DONT’S few days to CITN exam.

DO’S

• Know your exam center ahead.

• Make a visit to your exam center if you are chanced.

• If your location is far from exam center, Move to a hotel close to your exam center.

• Make sure your calculator and writing materials are in good condition.

DON’T

• Don’t go late to your exam center, lateness could destabilize you.

• Don’t interact with anyone while in the exam hall, this could be passive as malpractice.

These do’s and don’t might seems too basic, but it is better to do the right thing to avoid the “stories that tough”

As the exam is approaching,
there is tendency that you are feeling stress out,
exhausted,
your brain is feeling empty,
you are feeling all choked up
and
you are having all kind thought like:

Am I really ready for this exam?

Have I read enough?

This causes you to lose focus, confidence and concentration.

The truth is, it's ok to feel this way
