There have been speculations that ICAN exam for March/July diet will be by September this year 2020.
This was the latest speculation shared last week on social media,
“This is to inform you that the long awaiting March/July 2020 professional examination
comes up next month being September 2020.
The actual date would be communicated soon. This pre- information just came to me few minutes ago from the Institute examination department.”

Though the information has not been confirmed to be true,
but there could be an element of truth in it.

I am very sure that ICAN exams will still hold this year……… wondering why I am so sure?

…… Inter-state travel restriction has been removed.
…….WAEC exam is starting soon.
……..Domestic flight has resumed.
……..International flight will resume soon.

So, don’t be caught off guard, ICAN exam date will be announced soon.

I know Preparing for exams can be very demanding.

With these questions in mind, you will be able to strategize and eliminate every hindering obstacle.

Don’t leave your preparations to chance, as that might not guarantee you an adequate preparation; make sure you have a plan for this diet CITN exam.

There are still people like one of my senior colleague, in organizations.

We all have days where we don’t feel like studying,
we just keep postponing it and sometimes this feeling can last a whole
week without studying at all.


I can’t forget my experience back then in the university,
I felt the course was easy to pass, so I just keep postponing my study time,
Before I realized it was a week to exams. I now started marathon studying,
Unfortunately I had carry over (failed) in that course.

Most times, we normally do not feel like studying until there is
an immense pressure of deadlines.
By the time the deadline motivation kicks in, we realize that maybe it is too late.
Then, we start to panic, start studying hurriedly, skip the topics and
grasp nothing properly. Results are severely affected and there is no solid learning.

2. STAY OFF SOCIAL MEDIA FOR NOW:

Haba, wetin happen nah, just because of ICAN exam, we should leave Social Media?
Well, it is just an advice that could aid you to pass your ICAN exam.
….Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

To help you maintain your break from Social media, turn off social media notifications
or delete the apps entirely, you can always reinstall after the exam.
You can also just log out of these sites or Apps and applications on your computer and phone.
Having to log in every time you visit the site or use the app may reduce
the chance that you will check them.

If you are already addicted to Social Media, there is still a way out.
For instance, if you normally use social media for 4 hours daily,
cut your social media use back to 1 hour or 30 minutes per day.

Promise me that you will give it a try!!!

P.S: Without a good cause, you will have a hard time maintaining time
away from social media.

Have you ever been so afraid of failing an exam like CITN just because
you have failed before,so you decided not to try it at all?
Many of us have probably experienced this at one time or another.
The fear of failing can cause us to do nothing and therefore
resist moving forward in our career. But when we allow fear to stop our
forward progress in life, we're likely to miss some great opportunities along the way.

A student asked me what to do after failing CITN exams twice,
I asked him about is mode of preparations in the past exams.
He explained that he was always very busy at work and
also works on weekends , so he had no time to prepare
extensively for CITN exams. And he explained that he always
feel “paralyzed” by his fear of failing whenever he was in the exam hall.

Digging deeper, I discovered that he was always blaming himself for
his failure and was not doing anything new to change the situation.

If you find yourself in this situation too and you have already

Start by picking a past failure and writing out three things you learned from it.
For example, ask yourself;

you now but it has a devastating
effect, especially when you least expected.

I remember years back, after cramming
for an exam,
when I saw the way the questions were
‘twisted’in the exam hall, my brain just went blank.

So, let me show you the best way to assimilate more;

• SCAN THE MATERIAL FOR KEYWORDS BEFORE STUDYING

Before you begin to study, scan
the text for keywords.
Keywords are words thatappear in a text or
written materials frequently.
You can check ATS past question to
find keywords. Scanning for keywords would
help you understand thematerial when you
beginto read it properly.
In the case where youdon’t understand the
keywords based on the information provided in the text,
make use of the dictionary or the internet to check its meaning.

Understanding keywords help to better digest the
material and retain theinformation since you are familiar
with the essential words in the text.

For each of the ATS courses, list out the keys words
and get familiar with them all.
By the time you start studying intensively,
you will start coming across thesekeys words and
they will be automatically registered in your sub-consciousness.
You will notice how you can easily remember
those keywords when you start answering ATS past questions.

• TEACH YOURSELF BY READING THE MATERIAL OUT

Reading a material out helps you calm down
and pay attention to each word in the text.
I particularly use this method during
my undergraduate days.
Reading out the text makes it engaging. Sometimes,

or being alone in a room.

Don’t say this sounds like a secondary student’s method,
if it’s working for others, why not give it a try now.

It is actually difficult to study in the midst of this pandemic the world is
currently experiencing. The News you see on almost all TV stations is
always negative because they are mostly about COVID-19.
The thought of the news can send negative thought to your mind.
The negative feeling can discourage you from revising for your ICAN exams.
The iron of everything is that, when this pandemic is over, ICAN will announce the new exam date,
They will not cancel the exam because you were not motivated to study.

So it better to put aside the worries that we face now and focus more on the task ahead,
I know it is not easy but it is very possible.


What do you do when you literally have no motivation to study.

• USE REWARDS AND TREATS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF

I remember when I was preparing for a professional exam,
I had to buy myself a nice wrist watch for finishing the syllabus in a month.
I actually gave my wife the money to buy me the wrist watch if I succeed,
but if don’t, she can keep the money. I actually passed the exam at one sitting.
Rewards are powerful motivators. They train you to delay gratification in
order to get something important done.
If you’re literally struggling so hard that you can’t make it through one page of reading
without getting distracted, then start with a reward per page.
For example, after finishing a page or 2, buy yourself what you love as a reward.

Something I like about the use of a reward system is that it gives you that first
little kick-start to start studying, which could really increase.
You might force yourself to do that first few minutes of study for a small reward.
Your rewards will kick-start momentum.

The reward needs to be hard to obtain, though. It needs to be something that you will be genuinely proud of achieving.
It also needs to be something that you’re genuinely willing to deny yourself
if you don’t reach the goal. If you just throw in the towel and buy the reward even
if you don’t make it to the goal, then what’s the point?


• WRITE DOWN THE REASONS WHY DOYOU WANT TO STUDY WELL.
Writing down your goals and reasons why you want to study hard can encourage and increase your motivation in finishing your tasks. Post this on the wall of your bedroom or your study area so that you can see and always be reminded of why you are studying hard.
For ICAN exams, write down for PROMTION at work and for a BETTER job offer.

but why are student failing exams

In the previous article, I gave one question to ask yourself before giving up on your CIS career dreams, so today, I will be giving you three questions to ask yourself before you make that decision of giving up on your CIS career dreams

2. Is the reason I really want to quit pursuing this goal worth it?

Often the primary reason to why you want to abandon this project is because you are afraid it will be another wasting of your time and resources all over again.
Because you are afraid you are going to fail again
But if you don’t keep going, you will never know how far you could have gone
And you will miss out on being the person you would have become.

3. Am I acting on impulse or emotion instead of thinking things through?

Sometimes our emotions give us hints about what we want and what we should do,
But other times, they are just responses to stress, and maybe even indications we are on the right track.
If you act on that moment of intense emotion; be it anger, fear, or frustration,
You may regret it once the wave has passed.
So sit back, take note of what you are feeling
Feel it fully, without judging it or yourself.
Then act when you have gotten to the other side.
Then at least you will know you made the decision in a moment of peace and clarity
Which I know definitely would not be you quitting.

4. How much have I already put in?

How much have you invested?
How much money and time have you devoted to becoming chartered?
How many sacrifices have you made?
Are you really willing to chalk it all up as a loss Just because you are not feeling confident in your abilities?
What about the career opportunities that accompanies it?
Are you ready to take that risk to regret later?
I guess not…
Because as the saying goes; the pain of discipline is always better than the pain of regret.
Let me conclude by asking you this question;
Assuming your best friend was in your shoes, would you advise him or her to give up because he can’t possibly reach his goals?
I also guess not…
I guess you would practice your finest motivational speech and help him see what a great potential you see in him or her.
Unless you are secretly a “frenemy” who hopes he fails in life
The truth is that you would push him to his best…
So why not push yourself?
It may sound tacky, but you need to be your own best friend,
More than anyone one else in the world,
Deserve your own believe and motivation.
If after asking yourself all these questions and still feel determined about your decision to give up,
Then good luck to abandoning your dreams goal of becoming a stockbroker.
But if you don’t…
If there is some lingering doubt, then keep working towards that dream that you know will elevate your career and give you that self-fulfillment.

P.S. Take a different approach if you need to, but whatever you do, don’t give yourself a reason to one day tell yourself, “I quit because it was too challenging for me and scared because I believed it was beyond me.
Because you might regret it later in life, and if you’re delaying it, you’ll question yourself why didn’t you do it sooner?

Distraction has become our everyday way of life,
from phone notification, system notification, website notification,
social media notification, events, daily news, trends and a whole of other things.
The irony is that we have accepted all these as a normal way of life,
so we don’t see anything wrong with it.

You may ask , “Is it possible to remove all forms of distractions during study”?
Maybe yes,
You should always note that there are time and
place for everything and what’s important for you now is
to focus on studying and passing your CITN exams.

Let me show you how to remove all distractions during study;

• IDENTIFY CURRENT DISTRACTION:

List all the things that can distract you
while studying and label them distraction,
so that immediately when they happen, you will be reminded
that is a distraction. For examples, these are list of distractions when I studying;
Phone ringing, text message beeping, music, social media notification popup,
latest news popup, email notification and noise.



• SUSPEND ALL FORM OF DISTRATION UNTIL AFTER YOU FINISH STUDYING

I know that we can be very addicted to our phones,
so I won’t suggest you switch it off during study time,
you can actually put it in silence or vibration.
You can also deactivate notification,
so that you won’t get any app notification at that time.
And lastly, disable your internet during study time.
This is just a price to pay for your CITN exams, why not give it all it takes.
According to Sharon Salzberg, distraction wastes our energy, concentration restores it.


P.S: Your results are the product of either personal focus or personal distractions.

If you have been wondering if ICAN July diet exams would be possible
due to the fact that March exam diet is still on hold,
you need to know that it is time to start preparation for ICAN July diet.
Last week, the Registrar/Chief Executive of ICAN, Prof. Ahmed M. Kumshe FCA,
announced that ICAN March and July 2020 diets examinations will be merged.
He also advised ICAN students to continue with their preparations for the examination,
though no dates have been fixed for the next diet examination yet,
but as soon as it is feasible and the restriction on social gathering is lifted,
students will be informed of new ICAN examination dates.

It shows that there is possibility of writing ICAN exams anytime soon,

• Inter- state travel ban has been lifted
• Airports are opening soon for domestic flight.

There are lots of activities that could act as distraction whenever
you are revisiting for the fourth coming ICAN exams,
funny enough some of these distractions might be unavoidable.
But, you can actually minimize distraction.

Most of the time, notifications from electronic devices
(phone, tablet, laptops, desktop and others) only add to the distraction.
In fact, most of us are so used to getting interrupted while studying,
even when there is no notification on our phone, we still check just to be sure.
Seems we have been configured to be distracted…… smile!!!
There are other forms of distractions at work and at home….. we will discuss them all.


These tips may help you to minimize distraction, increase your
focus and assimilation while revising.

1. TURN OFF THE DISTRACTIONS
You may want to turn off all notifications from smartphones and
desktops applications. Consider checking email only four times per day and
handling each inquiry only once.
Controlling your devices and not having that technology control you,
may help reduce distractions and increase your focus and level of assimilation.
You have spent a lot for this exam, so don’t allow anything to deprive you of SUCCESS this diet.
