Foreign AffairsZimbabwe Declares Mugabe’s Birthday A Holiday by StateNews(op): 7:20pm On Nov 27, 2017
Zimbabwe has made former president Robert Mugabe’ s birthday a public holiday, a state daily reported Monday , nearly a week after the long-time ruler stepped down .

“ It is hereby declared that February 21 of every year henceforth shall be a public holiday to be known as the Robert Mugabe National Youth Day, ” The Herald newspaper reported , citing a government gazette .

The move follows intense lobbying by the ruling ZANU - PF party’s youth league and came weeks after the country ’s biggest airport was renamed after the veteran politician who ruled Zimbabwe for nearly 40 years.

His tenure withstood repeated claims of hanging on to power through brutal repression of dissent, election rigging and corruption, until concerted pressure from the military finally forced to quit .

Parliament had begun proceedings to impeach Mugabe
for allowing his wife and a coterie of followers to “ capture” the ruling party.
The 93- year- old was replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was vice president until Mugabe fired him just weeks ago .

The declaration of his birthday as a holiday is the latest of many accolades.
Zimbabwe’s school of intelligence was named after him while a $1-billion Robert Mugabe university is also in the works .

Several buildings and roads across the country are also named after him.
Zimbabwe’s opposition accuse Mugabe of spending scarce money on wasteful projects despite the country being forced to grapple with poverty and an unemployment rate of more than 90 percent.

PoliticsThree Hours With Kwankwaso: There Was A Governor! by StateNews(op): 8:11am On Aug 24, 2017
THREE HOURS WITH KWANKWASO: THERE WAS A GOVERNOR!

I have never attached any distinct prominence to his Excellency, distinguished Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso except the little prestige that accompanied his ability to defy logic and political projections by his defeat of the boisterous and crafty Atiku in the 2015 APC presidential primaries to emerge 2nd after Buhari in a shocker that left the political observers of that era in awe.

I have never dreamt of being in a close range with the grand commander of the Kwankwasiyya movement neither have I voyaged into the verisimilitude of addressing him or listening to tap from his ocean of experience as a pioneer of the Nigerian project.

I have therefore allowed mere speculations, assumptions and hear-say to form the fulcrum of my perception of him. I have learnt a lesson, judging from a distance leads only to impaired and uninformed conclusions!

I had thought that His Excellency is an old, overbearing and a tribal politician who if bequeathed power to would fast track Nigeria to precipice.

Three hours was able to disarm my feeble mind, decapitulate my delusions and place me in a more sophisticated position where rational thinking, dispassionate appraisal of his person, conclusions based on the deductable facts on ground were ably enough to shape my opinion of him.

It was Atiku who invited me to the Maitama residence of his Excellency on the 21st of August 2017. I met with Atiku at 8pm in Maitama guest house and at about 10pm we were already at the residence of the great "Nigerian" political enigma

Inside the building, hung the aura of celebration, festivity or even a carnival in a market-like atmosphere where both the well and shabbily dressed Northerners and southerners settled in a peaceful atmosphere and freely intermingled with one another. I was initially shocked, every little corner of the building was kept busy by three or more people(irrespective of religion, region and tribe) who convene to share their thoughts on the political happenings.

I was amazed. This was to me impossible in this era when the sound of disintegration has formed a rhythm in the ears of even the deaf and the drum of war agog in the most peaceful sanctuary. It seems to me that true Nigerians only lived or visited His Excellency's house or that it is only in his house that Nigeria is an indivisible nation whose unity is not negotiable. I was perplexed!

At about 12am, we matched into the glorious presence of the new Nigeria's political pathfinder who joined us after we sat for not over five minutes in his moderately furnished sitting room. What preoccupied my mind all through was whether the great Kwankwaso who has been deputy speaker of the house of Representatives, minister of defense, 8years governor of the commercial state of Kano and a current Senator of the federal republic could comfortably settle in such a humble abode. It was below my expectations. I expected a skyscraper with rooms adorned in gold and diamonds or a palace befitting of a king. After quietly reminiscing for a while in the innermost part of my heart haggling to come to terms with or to reconcile the profile of the great Kwankwaso with the humble and moderately furnished sitting room hardly different from that of an average Nigerian, I hurriedly concluded without any iota of the contradictions that Kwankwaso is not a "Nigerian" politician but a replica of Mallam Aminu Kano and could have grown under the direct tutelage of the great mahatma Gandhi of India

He is younger than what we see in the pictures, a fine gentleman with a marvellous smile capable of dousing a raging volcano. What a man!

His sight alone took my mind to Singapore where Lee Kuan Yew, presented himself, built and transformed the country from grass to grace, gutter to an island against all odds and amidst the greatest difficulties.

He listened to everyone of us with rapt attention and while we spoke, he jotted down the points we made including the advice and solutions proffered. I couldn't brace up with the realities, I felt my eyes where still covered with the biblical scale that blinded Saul on that ignoble journey to Damascus. The great Kwankwaso taking advice from young us? We felt like we were the best political tacticians of the era and each and every one of us wore a face of pride and satisfaction. It was unbelievable to have advised Kwankwaso, our happiness was extensive without bounds.

Only in Kwankwaso resides, a reformer, humanitarian politician, Intelligent leader and an economic pace-setter. What an understatement!

What more can we expect from a true leader? It is a rare quality for a Nigerian politician to listen and assimilate the ideas of young us. A listening leader will meet not only the yearnings but also the aspirations of the people.

Sen. Kwankwaso rekindled, rejuvenated and reinvigorated my waned hope in Nigerian politicians.

That singular characteristic has placed him in a vantage position that is not provided by mere mortals but prompted and made inevitable by the current situation of the country to liberate us from the woes of this era and place Nigeria once again in the hands of Nigerians where everybody especially the youths, irrespective of religion, region and tribes would be provided with a veritable atmosphere to hatch and harness their potentials.

It is a call to duty!

He spoke in a low tone, he was very apt and honest in his speech. I expected a barrage of hate speeches, insults, and diatribes on his perceived enemies and political adversaries as is ideal of Nigerian politicians but I was roundly disappointed!

The three hours informed a lifetime opinion and the lessons of those hours are capable of leading me not just for the rest of my life but also enough to overflow in my next coming.

I could remember how he switched off the air conditioner when a lady in the delegation was being affected by it, he inconvenienced himself to please us. The Mr integrity of Nigeria was unveiled that day at Maitama.

A new generation leader and a healthy, dogged bridge builder lives in Kwankwaso!

It is not unbecoming to opine that Nigerian youths cannot be guaranteed of their future unless Kwankwaso drives the Nigerian ship, they can never be groomed to take over the polity in the nearest future without his political intervention.

It is a clarion call for the total liberation of the Nigerian youths from the clutches of the evil fists of Unemployment and utter dejection by the traditional government of Nigeria.

Only a healthy leader will guarantee a healthy nation through a healthy economy amidst a healthy unity in a healthy atmosphere.

HE Engr(Dr) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the answer to the Nigerian barrage of problems.

PoliticsEmergency youth Meeting In Abuja by StateNews(op): 8:13am On Aug 18, 2017
COMMUNIQUE RELEASED AFTER AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE LEADERSHIP OF PATRIOTIC NIGERIAN YOUTHS AGAINST CORRUPTION AND SOCIAL INJUSTICE

The meeting which held at Summerset continental hotels, Maitama from 11pm 17/08/2017 came to an end at about 2am this morning when the group's national publicity secretary, Comrade Okpe Sylvanus moved a motion for an adjournment which was seconded by the Vice President North, Comr Katuka. The meeting had in attendance the entire NEC of the organization and Dr Onugwu Hibiscus, a media mogul and the founder of statereporters newspaper also the convener of Arise all African Youths as an impartial observer.

The group keenly reviewed the dire situation of the country and came to the following conclusion(s):

1. That the call for succession by different groups making up the federation is unnecessary and warned that the youths must desist from towing this path of self destruction as Nigeria is stronger together and that political jobbers playing with the very foundation of our existence and nationhood by fanning the embers of division for flimsy political expediency do not mean well for the youths but only moved by cheap avarice and selfish interests.

2. That the politicians of this era have failed woefully in discharging their statutory functions for the betterment of Nigeria and the benefit Nigerians hence the inevitable call by distinct nationalities that make up the Nigerian nation for self government thinking that an alternative government by themselves will alleviate the woes of this era.

3. That the nation is currently sitting on a time bomb which might go out of control for the "coordinator of the national affairs" Prof Yemi Osinbajo and prayed that President Mohammed Buhari recuperates quickly so as to squarely match the numerous problems bedeviling the nation which he promised to fix during the electioneering. The group regretted that Osinbajo might be constrained by virtue of the Nigerian style of politics from adequately matching the issues on ground concisely and recalled that before this time, Osinbajo performed very well and wondered if the national coordinator position of this time has had an adverse effect on his performance.

4. The group reiterated their disposition to using the over 2million supporters of the organization's ideology to catapult any politician with sincere intentions to end corruption and bring succour to the social menace the nation has been embroiled in since independence to power.

5. The group also promised to embark on a nationwide sensitization campaign to enlighten the youths on the need to actively participate in the governance of our nation if their future must be guaranteed.

6. The group also lampooned the political class for the organized looting spree with which they scavenged and emptied our Treasury. They recalled that in the 1970s Nigerian airways was a topmost revenue generating sector in Nigeria which attracted numerous countries to Nigeria wanting to learn the expertise with which the country's airways was turned into a major revenue generating centre. Where is the Nigerian airways now? Corruption finished it as it has finished other sectors of our economy and milked us to recession.

6. The group also regretted that under the incorrupt government of Buhari, the bureau for statistics recorded 400billion bribe to government officials from May 2015 to June 2016 and called on the federal government to put up a girdle of war so as to totally annihilate corruption from our shores

7. The group also thanked the Saraki led 8th assembly for the enabling framework they have provided to ending the drought of youth participation in the governance of our dear nation and called on the chairperson of constitutional amendment committee of the Senate, distinguished Senator Ikekwere Madu to ensure the timely passage of the not too young to run bill which will ensure that posterity remembers the 8th assembly as a pioneer leader of new Nigeria.

8. That should we fail to get it right by 2019 and with the present situation of the nation, the devastating situation must have entered menopause and thus be irredeemable.

9. The group prayed for the sierraleoneans who are currently passing through the evils of natural hazards and beckoned on the Nigerian government to be pragmatic with their Foreign policy which has Africa at the centre of it.

10. The group prayed for the unity, peace and progress of this nation.

It's a known fact that we Abians are intelligent. For the past 6years Abia state have maintained 1st or 2nd position in WAEC ranking. Federal government has not been fair to us by not giving us Federal high institutions like it had done to other states. Too bad. Abia state has only Federal University of Agriculture which has limited curriculum unlike other states that have up to 4 or 5 Federal High Institutions. E.g, Imo State has Fed Uni, Fed Poly, Fed College of Edu, and other Fed educational institutions. It's only Abia state that the federal has been very unfair to. That's why some people argue that Abia State do not rank high in Jamb intake because many of Abia students seek university admissions in other states.

Christianity EtcOkpaleke Can’t Be Bishop Of Ahiara – Thousands Of Imo Members Oppose Pope by StateNews(op): 10:02am On Jul 02, 2017
No fewer than 3, 000 faithful of Ahiara Diocese of the Catholic Church on Saturday converged on the Mater Ecclesiae cathedral, Mbaise in Imo State, for a rally to restate their total rejection of the embattled Bishop Peter Ebele Okpaleke.

Bishop Okpaleke, was appointed Bishop of Ahiara by then-Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, but has been unable to take control of the diocese because of protests by the majority of priests.

Okpaleke was later ordained a bishop in May 2013. The ordination took place not in the Ahiara diocese but at a seminary in the Archdiocese of Owerri.

But the priests argued and still contend that Ahiara is in Mbaise, a predominantly Catholic region of Imo State and that Bishop Okpaleke was brought from neighbouring Anambra State.

In reaction to their opposition, Pope Francis gave the defiant priests 30-day ultimatum, which expires July 9, to write a letter to apologize for their opposition, promise obedience to authority and accept the bishop appointed for their diocese.

At the weekend, the diocesan youths, clad in black attire, chanted solidarity songs to reaffirm their support for the position taken by the Ahiara Diocese clerics and the laity council’s to rejection of Okpaleke.

Punch reports that other Catholic men and women who dressed in different church uniforms, also participated in the rally, which started with a rosary procession round the cathedral.

Addressing the congregation, President of the Diocesan Laity Council, Mr. Gerald Anyanwu noted that the people of Mbaise were not against the Supreme Pontiff, Pope Francis I, but were against the irregularities and injustices allegedly perfected against the people of the diocese in the selection of the bishop.

Anyanwu insisted that Okpaleke was forced on them, and that he was not a priest “incardinated in the Ahiara Presbyterian.”

There was no time we insisted that the bishop of the diocese must be an Mbaise son, but the prelate must be a priest incardinated in the diocese. We shall accept any bishop whether an Hausa man or a Yoruba man as far as he is incardinated in Ahiara Diocese.”

He frowned against the activities of the Nigeria representatives of the church in Rome and urged them (cardinals) in the Vatican city to urgently look into the case of the Ahiara Diocese.

In his remarks, Provincial Ambassador, Laity Council of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Mr. Lawrence Opara, dismissed as propaganda, reports that the Mbaise priests would be sanctioned by the Pope if the agitation continued.

Opara, who is also the Secretary, Ahiara Diocese Laity Council, wondered why the case was different and difficult to resolve since it started in 2012.

He said, “This is time of propaganda but the truth must be told. They gave us a bishop by hook and crook means. We cannot accept him.

“It is biblical that if a priest is given to a people of God and he is rejected, he should go and be assigned to another people, who will accept him.”

Opara described the rumour that the Mbaise priests would be sanctioned as false, maintaining that no priest had been derobed without his bishop’s consent and approval.

The traditional ruler of Okirika-Ama, Umuokirika in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, HRH Eze Dominic Okoro, also faulted the claims that some traditional rulers from Mbaise visited the Pope in the Vatican.

He said, “Those people they said went to Rome to see the Pope were not our true representatives. Those who went from Nigeria deceived the Pope by telling him that they were the representatives of the Diocese.

“I am a traditional ruler and in the way we conduct our traditional institution, no royal father would leave for the Vatican City without all the Ezes knowing.

“We are not in any way against the authority of the Pope, but what we are fighting is injustice, corruption and evil among other vices in the Catholic Church.”

BusinessNCAA Issues First Drone Operator Certificate To Oando by StateNews(op): 8:32am On Jun 30, 2017
Oando Plc has become the first organisation in Nigerian to be issued the Remotely Piloted Aircraft/Drones (RPAS) Operators Certificate (ROC).

The certificate was issued to the oil company in Lagos, by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) at its headquarters at Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos yesterday.

A statement by Mr. Sam Adurogboye, spokesman for NCAA, said that the certificate was issued to the company by Capt. Muhtar Usman, the Director-General of the agency.

He hinted that the certificate was collected on behalf of the company by Mr. Anthony Sawyer, Oando Plc’s General Manager, Operations.

Adurogboye said that Oando Reservoir and Production Services Ltd. received the certificate having satisfied the requirements and found competent to secure the safe operation of the Lockheed Martins SN 248-255 aircraft.

The certificate, according to him, was for flights with the purpose of environmental observation monitoring and protection.

Oando Plc team, led by Sawyer, received the certificate on behalf of the oil company.

Speaking during the presentation, Usman advised Oando to ensure strict compliance with all the requirements for the grant of an approval.

He urged the company to adhere to all requirements for the maintenance of an approval applicable to each of the operations specifications.

He also enjoined the recipient to expect some initial minor challenges, which he said, were not entirely unexpected in any new initiative.

He, however, promised that the regulatory agency would respond to these challenges.

He added: “Taking cognisance of the rapid pace of technological development, the DG said the RPAS regulatory framework is a work in progress and we shall continually engage the industry stakeholders to review the regulations when necessary.”

Sawyer described the NCAA team as very professional and thorough during the processes towards attaining the certification, saying that the procedures were rigorous.

“We were convinced the authority was doing the right thing in line with its oversight responsibilities. Oando will definitely abide by all the conditions attached to the certificate especially with our pioneer status.”

To qualify for the issuance of certificate, applicants the statement said were expected to undergo five phases, which he itemised as pre-application, formal application, document evaluation, demonstration and inspection and certification phases.

The certificate would be valid till June 15, 2019, to be carried on site during each authorised and approved operations.

PoliticsIgbo Quit Notice: Kano Governor, Ganduje Speaks On Fate Of Igbos by StateNews(op): 10:17am On Jun 29, 2017
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has declared that Igbos residing in the state will not leave.

He made the declaration against the backdrop of the quit notice issued by the Arewa youths asking Igbos to vacate the North by October 1.

The governor said this while addressing reporters at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, on Wednesday.

Ganduje maintained that everybody resident in Kano was an indigene of the state.

He disclosed that his administration had abolished the indigene/settler dichotomy in running the affairs of the state and as such Igbos were free to remain.

According to Ganduje, “Nobody gave a quit notice in Kano. Even when they heard (about it), they (Igbo) said they were not going anywhere and we too told them that they are not going anywhere.

“So, it is an issue that we in Kano, want to show as an example of national integration.

“Therefore, in Kano we are speaking with the people and, in fact, we have even abolished the issue of indigenes versus settlers.

“Everybody in Kano is an indigene of Kano but there are some indigenes of Kano with primordial claim which is a fact.”
