FamilyRe: Should A Stranger Discipline My Nephew? by stephy10(op): 9:18am On Sep 25, 2013
veave: that was very wrong... a kid is a kid...
i would not tolerate someone else spanking my child...
you'll definitely get it hot!
My cousin was more distressed than angry, her hubby though was livid!

natasha: a child that hasnt been trained at home would be trained by "Outsiders". there is an african proverb that says, it takes a village to raise a child. If the parents are not training the child properly then society would help them.
When my son was 2 yrs old, we never used "shut up" on him (we still dont use it), instead we use "keep quiet". And despite the fact that he's been brought up in a western environment, i would like to think he is quite respectful to all around and we have managed to instill the "dont talk back at your elders" african shish.
Before your cousin flares up, she should ask herself, if her son had said shut up to her in the public or said it to her mother in the public, would she be huffing and puffing and angry as she is now? in all honesty?

The child is obviously towing the spoilt brat lane otherwise, children that age, scream for attention and once you tell them sorry they keep quiet but a child that carries on screaming till he gets home is intentionally pulling the strings of his folks......
In all fairness, his mom hasnt been the tolerant kind of parent. Infact, she tends towards being stern but that boy hmmmm he can try the patience of a saint.

@Gudintent I agree and as a matter of fact my cousin hs been after that boy and I had to intervene on halting her always spanking him so he doe not harden up. I am thinking he is at that age when they think its cool to shock elders. You know trying to see how far they can go.
FamilyShould A Stranger Discipline My Nephew? by stephy10(op): 7:59pm On Sep 24, 2013
My cousin called me today to tearfully report her exprience today' She asked her sister-inlaw to take her mouthy 2 and half year old son to buy things in her neighbourhood and he came home howling because a woman smacked him when he retorted 'shut up' to a statement adressed to him(horror of horror). The woman was amazed and angry with the boy, abused him (and I imagine his parents too) and smacked him hard.

Now I agree he has been constantly been reprimanded by his parents in his sassyness and should have learnt but is it right for a stranger to smack him for his parents?

Science/TechnologyRe: Just 34 Lions Are Left In Nigeria As West African Lion Population Declines by stephy10(f): 1:08pm On Sep 23, 2013
My peeps, this is a serious issue. Look at it from this point of view; will our kids have to travel abroad to see lions in their generation? or only view it from movies shot from decades ago? For those who mention the lions in the zoo, its not thesame and those are not counted by conservationists. Such a pity!
TV/MoviesRe: Briggs Family Wins Maltina Dance All Season 7 by stephy10(f): 5:29pm On Sep 22, 2013
We voted for the Ebute Family because we felt they were outstanding and resilent. See their daddy and his stunt eh! Such a pity they didnt win. Expected 2nd postion for the Briggs sha.

I was also expecting to see a real performance from the judges and not that mere ' glimpse' they presented at the end haba! for me that is one of the highlights I look forward to. Last year's show was better for me.

FamilyRe: Is A Woman Suppose To Claim The State Of Origin Of Her Husband? by stephy10(f): 10:13am On Sep 13, 2013
jennykadry: I started this topic two years ago and I stand by what I stated on that thread(check below for link), I am not from my husband's state. I married into that state but my state of origin is same as my father's. My husband's state can never be my state of origin neither can I claim or tell people when they ask me I am from there.

My kids (not I) come from daddy's state of origin.....because a man married me does not automatically turn me into Oliver Twist that claims and wants all....I had an identity before I married him and will continue to have it until the day God calls us home in good old age

https://www.nairaland.com/716421/where-exactly-it
Gbam!!!! exactly my point! like I said earlier, my kids are half me, half my hubby as a matter of fact. That is a way to enjoy the rich cultural heritage we love when we marry from different races.

Sounds rediculous to me. Yes you cnage names but for heaven's sake you dont change your DNA jare. Matter of fact, if a woman from Plateau state marries a man from Ekiti state, as far as I am concerned, the kids are half Plateau half Ekiti finish
