With 50 points even, as you will get 10 point from the state sponsoring you.
Please for those that have assessed with TRA, can you share tips of the documents that you shared with them so I don't miss out on the details.
Thanks

Merry Xmas everyone.May all our prayers and heart desired be answered.

For my fellow ICT workers, i just saw that TRA cost twice as much as ACS for the assessment....How do i determine which one am to assess with. All i did was IT Support.
Also how do i get the job description for each Occupation?
thanks

You will definitely need more years of experience. however, there might be another option of accessing as a hardware technician but this profession is only on the 489 visa. @eladua can help with this or search his moniker and you'd see his posts here and how he went about getting his grant as a hardware technician.
So someone can get 489 visa easily with 60points?

Hi Stepo07,

My result was okay. Before the test I was worried I hadn't done any mock tests and wasn't sure what to expect. The most difficult parts for me which came as a shock / rude awakening were the re-tell lecture and describe image areas of the test. I employed Jay's (E2 Language) method of Title + x-axis (for Describe image) however some mixed charts caused me to just talk (fluency) whilst not properly interpreting the right data on the chart. As a result of just wanting to apply proven methods my vocabulary was poor, got lowest marks there. The others were pretty okay (Read Aloud, Fill in the blanks, etc). Essay was standard.

This was on the 19th of December. Left the center feeling down due to the few mistakes in my speaking. Hesitated once and the mic got cut off after 3 seconds. On another occasion I used up the time and was also cut off.

As I read earlier here I expected my results in two to three days but was shocked to see an email telling me my score report was ready less than 24 hours after my test. Long tori short see my result below:

Listening - 84
Reading - 90
Speaking- 79
Writing - 90

Seeing the result above, I now realize how lucky I was to have escaped with a 79 in speaking and run away with "Superior English".
I quickly logged in to SkillSelect, withdrew my Visa 190 application, and then updated my 189 points which stood at 60. At the end of the update, the new score changed to show 70 points.

Came back here on the forum to find out that I just missed out on an invitation round and that the next will be on the 3rd of January. I can't wait.

Breaking down the process so far:

Age: 33 - 45.
Work Experience: 8 years +
ACS - Positive Assessment in October (Acknowledged 6 years, swallowed 2)
IELTS: LRSW - 8.0, 8.5, 7.5, 7.5 (should have remarked but didn't have a clue I could do so with these scores)
PTE: December 19th, Got superior English
Total points - 70.

My advice like many here have given for the PTE is to keep practicing with Jay from E2 Language especially on the speaking part which a lot of folks have problems with ( I know I did). If you have the time to do practice or mock tests (which I didn't have due to a crazy work schedule) then by all means please do so. 79 on speaking was me pushing it. Could have gone terribly wrong.

All in all I thank God and am now waiting for the ITA. Also a big thanks to everyone here that has shared stories on the platform to help others. God bless all of una.
Wow really a narrow escape. thanks for the encouraging advice.

pele...you know what to do.practise more.you know your weaknesses when you pronounce words don't you?your writing and listening are quite good because you did not have to speak...tot u used the software for practise?in my case I used none of that.just give yourself more practise and watch e2 language videos on YouTube.
there's what is called the 44 sounds of English language.if you are good in pronouncing those you will be fine because the exams are programmed with native speakers English.
good luck!
Thanks Misoke.am back to practise.cant wait for the software to detect my pronunciation and I wish I knew the trick

I think one should aim for perfection. It's very possible. Factors such as environment, state of mind, anxiety could influence result.

You may get discouraged if you flunk one or two repeat sentences but the point is to keep going.

Content (which we are mostly bothered about) is only one third of the scoring. I reckon that with a lot of practice one may shift the attention to scoring high in fluency and pronunciation.

Oh listen to your self a lot. You can record stuff and ask someone how clear you sound and all that stuff. We share more tips as I'm currently studying too.
Thanks.will try this b4 next test.i was abit nervous

My last mock test result is similar to your outcome. I think you're on a good path considering that your fluency is okay.

The aim for speaking is to look out for model answers and try to answer the same way.

Trying to improve fluency may somehow backfire on pronunciation because the more you want your speech to be smooth without unnatural pauses, the more you find yourself speaking faster.

A tip to note when doing Read Aloud: in the time allocated to skim through the text, have a mental note of the focus words as much as you can and ensure you hit high decibels when pronouncing these words.

I'm afraid the only way is practice practice practice.
Thanks brother.i felt it's from retell lecture and describe image am getting this pronunciation mistake.as well as repeat sentence.

What you said about a typical Nigerian is true. Especially for those sounds that do not exist in our mother tongues.

For PTE pronounciation. I have seen someone who scored 58 in Pronunciation, OF - 86 and had 80 in Speaking.

Another 59 in Pronunciation, OF - 79 with 79 in speaking.

Also I had 50 in pronunciation, OF - 80 in one of the mock test and 80 in Speaking.

And someone who scored - 60 in Pronunciation, OF - 89 and 90 in speaking.

What i think makes the difference is the Content.

So, now my aim is to increase fluency without affecting pronunciation (if I can get 55 - 60 in pronunciation, I will be very happy:-)

Plus Good content.

Pronunciation is more than producing the sound and speech to text recognizing your words. Stress is very important. It determines if we get a score of 3 or 4 in pronunciation. And to score 60 or above out of 90 in pronunciation. We need to score almost equal numbers of 4 and some 3 out of 5 in each question where pronunciation is scored. thats like 3.5 out of 5 = 63 out of 90

have you done yours again? need someone to enlighten me on that pronunciation.

Hi All, I have been a regular follower of this thread since I came across it through google. I have learnt quite a lot here from the myriad of questions and answers. I would also like to acknowledge lots of beautiful minds here – belong, mctowel, bnimz, spiroxy, mamajaz, zany to name but a few.
Though am still waiting patiently for my ITA, I thought of sharing my experience with English exams.

I started my journey early this year, and have written 3 IELTS exams. I was able to achieve at least 7 across all bands on the second attempt after which i evaluated my credentials with CPAA. But then I needed more points to stand a chance for ITA under ANZCO 221111, so I did the third IELTS on 9Sep17, but it didn't turn out as expected. I had L=8, R=7.5, W=7, S=7.5 so 20points seemed elusive.

However, before the outcome of my third IELTS i was skimming through previous posts on this thread when I came across the part where @bnimz mentioned getting 90 on all bands in PTE. It inspired me to be frank. At this point i had known about this thread for around a month, but I wasn't following with keen interest. I wish I was, perhaps I would've had the 20points much earlier.
So I did a little research online and finally decided to go for PTE on 19Sep17 as a backup plan, since it proffers a more objective alternative to attaining the 20points from language. As it turned out above, IELTS wasn't good. Though PTE wasn't either, but the result gave me hope. My first PTE on 19Sept17 came out as L=90, R=81, S=78, w=90. You can imagine how heart-rending this result was, just one point to hitting superior points. Infact, at a time I thought Pearson did it on purpose. But then I gave it another try on 27Sep17, score was L=90, R=72, S=70, W=90. Worse than the previous, you’d say, but I learnt an invaluable lesson from this. So, I put in for another one on 03Oct17 and result was L=90, R=89, S=90, W=90. Now I will tell you what I discovered in the speaking.

In my first attempt, I had just a few hesitations or pauses here and there during describe image and retell lecture. And I spoke continuously with some speed all through the test, cause of another candidate’s loud voice behind me. However, on the second attempt there was no hesitation, false start or any other form of error, but then the result was bad. Reason, I was trying to game the system. I spoke slowly in the read aloud, so my pronunciation was better, but then I spoke at a faster pace in other sections. Apparently, the system monitors your pace all through the speaking exam, and any change is taken for speech at an uneven pace which lowers your fluency scores. To achieve a high score in PTE speaking, aside from avoiding hesitations, repetitions, and false starts, you need to speak continuously and maintain the same pace across all the speaking sections. Another thing I did was, for describe image and retell lecture, I included at least a sentence as conclusion.

Do not be carried away by the read aloud speaking section of the PTE exam, you would get about 30secs to prepare, this should tell you something. The preparation time is to familiarize yourself with the text, so when it’s time to start reading, you have to be fast, not rushing through anyway, but then you have to be continuous so you can achieve that “assimilation and deletions appropriate to continuous speech” of PTE that is ascribed to native-like score under the pronunciation rubric. This can be clearly observed when you listen to newscasters on BBC or CNN. You would notice how fast they speak as they read from the teleprompter before them.

As for the retell lecture, my strategy was to listen attentively to the lecture (I did not write anything – my style). Focus was on the lecture. I was writing down keywords in my first and second attempt as advised by several blogs and videos I saw, but when I sat down to understand myself before the third attempt, I realized putting my focus on listening works best for me. After listening, I then spoke with the understanding of the topic. This enhanced my fluency as i was able to relate the talk as though I was telling a friend about a movie I saw.

For describe image, I employed e2language’s style of title, x-axis, a few points from the graph, chart or diagram and conclusion. Please see e2language videos on YouTube for this. Remember, always add a conclusion or implication to your response.

Repeat sentence is quite straight forward. Just try to develop your short term memory. In my opinion, please do not write down the sentence. Just focus on listening and repeat as you heard; same stress patterns and rhythm.

For answer short questions, please look up wenbo.tv, the site has a lot of practice questions. This part requires familiarity with the mode of responding. I guess most people do well in this section because they are probably things you come across every day.

I’ll stop here for now; this is already getting too long.
Here are a few sites that helped me during my preparation:

www.wenbo.tv/Practice-V3/home.html (has lots of practice materials)
www.coursera.org/learn/interview-preparation/lecture/fB5fE/using-phrasing
www.englishlistening.com

Well done bros.did it mean that you never make single spelling mistake and pronunciation error and grammar error in those ones that you had 90 throughout.

They compare whatever it is your employer wrote in your reference letter to the Job description they are accessing you for.
If your HR is flexible and someone you can speak with, draft your duties yourself so it's closely related to what you want to be assessed for and let you HR use that as guide line for your reference letter.

If they aren't flexible, get your letter, look through your duties and Pick occupation that's closely related in ACS site . You do this by comparing duties in your letter with their own JD for each job.

Whatever you do, don't copy and paste their JD oh.
Also read the website and understand the requirements like eladua said before going ahead.

If I'm not mistaken, U.I is a Tier one Uni, which means you get ur degree assessed as a Bsc. (15 points)

Also, your degree will most likely be assessed as ICT major but not closely related to your work experience (I don't think any school in Nigeria offers a curriculum that's closely related as far as ACS is concerned.)

Anyways, if you are lucky and they say it's closely related, you need two years experience to be eligible.
That leaves you with two years work experience point to claim..

If they feel it's not closely related , then you need 4 years. Which means, your get 0 years of experience (0 points)

There's no ICT job on the 189,190 that's not or Pro-rata now.. I think. So your chances are rather slim with 0 point for experience.

However, u can still access with ACS, get your positive assessment and then use it to pursue 489 visa if u are in a hurry. Several ICT jobs are available on 489.
Or go the TRA route.

I think ACS is easier tho. I've read the TRA site over 3 times and my head wants to scatter.
Plus ACS is cheaper.
Wow.so detailed and useful.last question, do they use your CV to check or your letter of appointment for the job description

What course did you study?

And if all you did was IT support I doubt the work experience will fly for security and network professional, check the job description of those occupations and see if what you do is close to them. However, I think you should also know there is ICT customer support or something like that, you can go for such or Hardware technician.

Well yea you should aim for 189 or 190 provided you can get like 70points because there are people with 65points that have been waiting in line for several months, so decide on what's best for you.
I studied computer science.i will look for customer support and hardware technician.i can always switch when I get there.

With TRA, you are accessing other occupation that's close to your ICT occupation not the same occupations assessed by ACS. Eg. Hardware technician.

This is available on 489 visa and he advised to do that because some people have a better chance of getting a positive assessment and higher points with them more than they do with ACS. (That's putting into consideration your University and years of experience. )
Eladua advised that because he's done it and he has gotten a grant.
Thanks for the reply.like for me , my job has been IT support and for 4 years.i schooled in university of ibadan.i know I think system analyst is out
Wanted to find out if computer network professional and database and systems administrator and ict security specialists is ok?
Truth is am aiming for either 189 or 190.

I think you should be careful assessing for ICT Security except your work experience is in that line and you can get reference letter from work to back it up. In addition to that, since ACS will likely assess your degree to be equivalent to Australia associate degree, you will be required to have at least 4years experience to get a good outcome. I'd advice you read the requirements of that occupation well before you go ahead with it.

But if your work experience is related to IT support, hardwares and installations and you are single too grin, you can check out Hardware Technician assessed by TRA, you will likely get your 15points for education from them, at least I'm a witness of this.

Best.
Bro pls I have a question.if Thier site says asses is through ACS, can one decide to change to TRA.? Would it be valid
For yours, were you pursuing the 190 or 489 visa?
