9jacrip: You should be the one to get this well - read:
Oduduwa married more than one wife and these different wives gave birth to these different kids with the first child being a female. Oranmiyan and others didn't have one mother as you claimed.
Oranmiyan didn not feel betrayed about anything and did not go to rule Benin out of betrayal accept to rule Benin. He left for Benin before properties were shared and since he was the last and everything had been shared upon his return.
As a result his father gave him earth which signified ownership of the places his brothers set up shops and to get a period tribute.
Ooni as a title was the term used to refer to Oduduwa has owning the crown and stuff but not owning the land - Oonile.
The person who tendered to Orisas and played the personal assistant role to Oduduwa was Adimu.
Oyo Ile - the actual place Oranmiyan set up Oyo which was referred to as Katunga by Hausa and people from the north.
Igboho was the place seat of power was moved to after Oyo was first sacked by Nupe.
The present Oyo was originally known as Ago-Oja.
Oranmiyan ruled, not as Alaafin but as Oranmiyan. The first Alaafin was his son, Ajaka, Sango's brother. Thanks for the correction. But I didn't say Oranmiyan left for Benin because he was betrayed. |

NigerMan1: stinggy - you rushed to conclude the Ilajes are "Yoruba" when we all know that the word "Yoruba" was used to group people who spoke similar language as the Oyo in the Mid 19th Century. What you failed to tell us, is what is the ANCESTRY of the Ilajes?
What is the ANCESTRY of many other tribes known as Yoruba today?
You wrote: "Ilajes are Yorubas who found their selves surrounded by Ijaws
You are fast in eliminating the influence of the Ijaw while claiming they are Yoruba. How did the Ijaw surrounded them, or do you want to claim the Ijaws are aliens on that land? What is the origin of the word "Yoruba"? Your argument fails on so many fronts. Yoruba used to group people who spoke something similar to Oyo? Really Show me any similarity between Oyo language and Ijebu, Oyo language and Igbomina. And what is the ancestry of Igboho Yorubas whose neighours are Tapas/Nupes? Or would you argue they are not Yorubas? War unsettled most of these Yoruba groups you see scattered around. So many of their founders take off to avoid some kind of punishment and wherever they found their selves is where they settled at. |

NigerMan1: stinggy - don't confuse the 21st century happening with ANCESTRY. From all available record, the Ilajes ancestry is 100% from Oyo. As for the Olugbo King, yes, that alignment is merely political and does not change their ancestry, which is partly link to Benin. If Olugbo is Ijaw as posited by you people, wouldn't it make more political sense to flock with mainstream Ijaw kings and enjoy windfall, as the President is Ijaw too? And take this correction; Ilaje's ancestry can be traced to Ife, not Oyo. |

NigerMan1: stinggy - can you please tell us why those "few misguided ones will refute" being Yoruba? Am sure you're not Awori, so why must you insist? I can tell you that until the you guys started fighting and claiming "Lagos is Yorubland" immediately after the 3rd mainland bridge was commissioned in 1990 Babangida, most yorubaland people use to (and still) hate the Awoiris with perfect hatred. Many people from Oyo, Ogun and Oshun regarded the Aworis as aliens. I will answer the part with a question too - why are some Ikwerre people claiming they are not Igbos? Simple - distortion of history! There was never any hatred, it's just a normal Yoruba way of making jests, which you and I know. It is the same way omo eko will regard omo-oyo or omo ibadan as ara ilu oke. It's not hatred. |

You also have a tendency to procrastinate. • You are very helpful in nature but are also short tempered which might hamper your relationship with others. • You are independent and love to help those in need. You are also stubborn in nature. • Due to your stubborn nature you find it hard to work amicably with others and find difficulty in dealing with situations where some compromise and conformation is required. You ought to change your attitude otherwise you might find it hard to survive in your workplace.

tonychristopher: i like you, i must be honest, you are not insultive like others, very intellectual
Egun are Ewe language based
Ilajes are purely Ijaws speaking Yoruboid same as kalabari are ijaw speaking miasma of igbo langauage even otuoke also Ilajes are Yorubas who found their selves surrounded by Ijaws just like the Olukumis in Aniocha. Itsekiri drew their language from Ilaje, with a mix of Ijebu, Bini and Portuguese. There was a guy that visited Ilaje/Ese-odo community and shared his findings on NL sometime ago (can't vividly remember the title). He confirmed this through the findings he got from the natives. It is noteworthy too to point out that there are various dialects of Yoruba language which when spoken, an average Yoruba Ajumolo (central yoruba) might find difficult to understand, Egun, Ilaje and so many others belong to this group. But for easier communication between the Yorubas, a central Yoruba was adopted (Yoruba Oyo). |

words like Idumagbo Idumota Eko Lekki Oniru Oshodi
and many more, I am in lagos and I have asked many yorubas these none can give me the real answer
Left for me the true owners of lagos are the Edos and Aworis
And Aworis have made it clear that they aint yoruba
So I am trying to know the truth of LAGOS AS A NO MAN LAND...from historical and archeological fact, it seems that the notion is true cos I cant see any pointer that Yorubas own LAGOS Wrong! You wouldn't say true owners of Nigeria are the Brits because they colonized us at a time, would you? Aworis are the owners, and are part of the larger Yoruba tribe, only few misguided ones will refute this. |

So no validity and credibility... Remeber, Muslims claim Jesus christ was a muslim, Jewish/christian claimed he was not. People write history to lay claim of what its not theirs. Benin are not the first people. I'm not Bini, and if you read well, many parts of the write-up conforms with earlier-held beliefs. And btw, Benin's claim of being the first people is farce - Ile-Ife was also in existence when Bini was. |

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE WORD IDU IN YORUBA

IKOYI
I AM WAITING FOR ANY PURE YORUBA THAT CAN PICK UP THE CHALLENGE PLS
THIS WILL PUT THE LAGOS NO MAN LAND AT REST To answer your question.. The Aworis were the first settlers of Lagos. At the time, the influence of Benin kingdom was very strong. The Awori didn't treat Bini representatives well during trade, when the Oba heard this, he sent emisarries who were attacked by the Aworis. The angered Oba now sent his son - Ado, with an army to demand an explanation from the Aworis, but he was surprisingly well-received and even asked to be their leader. Oba agreed to this and later sent some chiefs to assist Ado in running Eko. Ado was responsible for naming of the areas of Eko, that's why they bear bini names. |

That's why you should always read wide. He left because of the 'ibinu'(anger) in Bini people when he couldn't take it again, with the aim of taking up Ife stool but to his dismay, it has been occupied, so he had to leave again to set up his own kingdom. kalakuta100: nobody that is not a Benin prince trained in the arts and traditions of Benin can rule the great land of igodomigodo... Please look at history and talk like some a someone educated.. This your story is half baked this is the real gist .The exiled Prince Ekaladerhan who was not known in Yoruba land, somehow earned the title of Oni Ile-fe Izoduwa which is now corrupt to yoruba language as Ooni (Oghene) of Ile-Ife Oduduwa and refused to return, then sent his son Oranmiyan to become king. Prince Oranmiyan took up his abode in the palace built for him at Usama by the elders (now a coronation shrine). Soon after his arrival he married a beautiful lady, Erinmwinde, daughter of Osa-nego, was the ninth Enogie (Duke) of Ego, by whom he had a son. After some years residence here he called a meeting of the people and renounced his office, remarking that the country was a land of vexation, Ile-Ibinu (by which name the country was afterward known) and that only a child born, trained and educated in the arts and mysteries of the land could reign over the people. He caused his son born to him by Erinmwinde to be made King in his place, and returned to Yoruba land Ile-Ife. After some years in Ife, he left for Oyo, where he also left a son behind on leaving the place, [s]and his son Ajaka ultimately became the first Alafin of Oyo of the present line[/s], while Oranmiyan himself was reigning as Oni of Ife. Therefore, Oranmiyan of Ife, the father of Eweka I, the Obaof Benin, was also the father of Ajaka, the first Alafin of Oyo. Oni of Ife and Alafe of Oyo is a Bini spoken language all the Kings title in Southerner are Edo Language. In Nigeria Edo has the greatest and rich culture and most influence in West Africa and powerful King in Nigeria. Get this well. Oranmiyan left Bini to meet another son of his father on the throne of Ife, a son that wasn't even born when he and his 6 brothers were around - Ooni. He was given birth to by a slave and not the same mother that gave birth to the 'other 7'. Oranmiyan felt betrayed because he had been promised he would succeed his father Oduduwa and only accepted to rule Bini for a short while. But after he left the Ife palace, all of his brothers left too, each settling down in his own kingdom. Ooni was the only one available to cater for Oduduwa and that was why Oduduwa made it his dying wish that Ooni succeeds him. He left in anger and founded Oyo-ile (not the present Oyo, but the present day Igboho) as the first Alaafin, note:- Ajaka was never the first Alaafin. Oranmiyan is the link between Oyo and Benin kingdom and that's why Binis claim to have closer ties with Oyo than Ife, having been ruled by the same Oranmiyan. |
