Teachers should know how so important they are and have a very strong union. And spell out the terms and conditions of work to schools. And by the way those failures that call themselves parents will definitely reap what they have sown. The only thing they know how to do is to raise failed children who will contaminate other good kids and then create more problems in the society. |

Dvmb people everywhere. This price increase is not about VAT. Some small businesses before now pay only VAT and a few other charges but with the new Tax law they'll pay company income tax. Their meagre profit will be slashed. Now imagine a small business with a yearly revenue of 50.5million and a profit of 15 percent on his sales, that's a profit of 7.5 million per year. But after expenses( hell generate his own light, pay staff salary, rent, pay levies, logistics expenses and other cost incurred for running the business, including some losses made) and the he's left with a profit of 800k. It's this 800k government will come and tax 30% of it, how much is left to cater for his family? Th only way out is to pass on the tax expenses to the consumer just like VAT is done. Failure to do that the business risk being shut down. |
kingjayzeelan07:Now check what other top thousands of politicians in the recent past ( that still remain hidden) must have looted and check what thousands of politicians in this current government, hidden in plain sight, are currently looting, then honestly you'll come to understand that the citizens don't need to be TAXED, we don't need to borrow, and should be enjoying some subsidy. |
You don't tax your way out of poverty. |
Russian supporters no longer have the moral right to accuse US of invading Venezuela ![]() Do you now see how painful it is? |
unite4real:Wetin consign me. Thank God I am self employed, doing business. We simply pass the VAT on to the public consumers. Una neva see anything, Una go pay tax tire. VAT means Value Added Tax. It is an indirect tax charged on the value added to goods and services at each stage of production and distribution, but it is ultimately borne by the final consumer. Simple explanation Whenever a business sells goods or services, it: adds VAT to the selling price collects VAT from the customer remits the VAT to the government How VAT works (easy example) Manufacturer sells goods for ₦100 + VAT Wholesaler sells for ₦150 + VAT Retailer sells to final consumer for ₦200 + VAT Each business pays VAT only on the value it added, not the full amount. VAT in Nigeria Current VAT rate: 7.5% Administered by: Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Applies to most: Goods Services Some items are VAT-exempt or zero-rated (e.g. basic food items, medical services, educational services). Key points to remember VAT is not a profit tax Businesses act as VAT collection agents The final consumer bears the cost VAT is different from Company Income Tax (CIT) and Personal Income Tax (PIT) |
It's not only subsidy that's killing Nigeria, unnecessary and wasteful spending is also killing nigeria. Of what use is the coastal road that runs into trillions of naira? This is not a necessity to the country right now, we have enough bad roads, add high quality to them and maintain them. But no! They're looking for a way to embezzle public funds. Even the ones they manage to repair, they deliberately make sure it's of very low quality so that they can embezzle a huge chunk of the inflated funds allocated to it, in a bid to keep allocating money to the road every year. Just take a visit to our sister country, cotonu here and see the very high quality of their roads. Is coastal road our pressing issue? |
tiger28:Is it not the same governors that he is courting to join APC and then after joining and standing on his mandate, all their sins are forgiven. If the president really wanted to be honest why did he increase their allocation without establishing accountability and transparent systems before doling out such money to state governments who hitherto have proven to be corrupt in spending public funds |
It's that way because of very bad leadership and very senseless followership |
The government has paid some persons to suppress the truth about the implications of these taxes. One of the implications is that it's going to hinder people's financial growth. If you decide to work harder to earn more, you pay more money to government thereby slowing your savings and financial growth rate. Also the tax rate is very high for a country with very low income per capital. Secondly, you benefit next to nothing from whatever is removed from your money as tax. Bad roads(more car expenses), Low quality but expensive health care High Insecurity(affects cost of food) You generate most of the power u use Lack of free/quality education Lack of transparency and embezzling of public funds And more |
Lukgaf:Lily livered citizen How many times have you quoted this quoran directly to your politicians embezzling public funds meant for the suffering masses |
DoTheNeedful:Oga why not also tell you govt to also copy these tax benefits below as is done in such countries And what is the fundamental duty of government to their citizens in every society? Pls don't be a dvmb citizen. Why are they so desperate on this tax issue, but they've blatantly ignored the duty they owe the Nigerian s, many of which have been paying tax. Here is a breakdown of the primary benefits UK citizens receive from their tax contributions (Income Tax, National Insurance, and VAT). 1. Healthcare (The NHS) The most direct benefit is the National Health Service. Unlike many other countries, your taxes ensure that: Emergency Care: A&E visits and ambulance services are free at the point of use. Hospital Treatment: Surgeries, cancer treatments, and overnight stays are covered. GP Services: Consultations with your local doctor don't cost a penny. 2. Social Security and Pensions A huge portion of tax revenue (specifically National Insurance) goes toward the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide a safety net: State Pension: Regular payments once you reach retirement age. Unemployment Support: Benefits like Universal Credit if you lose your job. Disability Support: Payments like Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for those with long-term health conditions. 3. Education and Childcare Taxes fund the development of the next generation: State Schools: Free primary and secondary education for all children. Higher Education: While students pay tuition, the government provides the massive up-front loans required to attend university. Childcare: Schemes like "30 hours free childcare" for working parents of toddlers. 4. Public Safety and Infrastructure Your taxes pay for the "unseen" systems that keep the country running: Emergency Services: Funding for the Police, Fire Brigade, and Coastguard. Infrastructure: Building and maintaining motorways, A-roads, and bridges. The Environment: Funding for the Environment Agency (flood defenses) and waste management. Defense: Funding the British Army, Royal Navy, and RAF to ensure national security. 5. Local Community Services If you pay Council Tax specifically, that money stays local to fund: Bin Collections: Weekly or fortnightly waste and recycling services. Street Lighting & Maintenance: Keeping pavements safe and fixing potholes. Libraries and Parks: Public spaces that are free for everyone to use. Where does £1 of your tax go? To give you a sense of scale, for every £1 spent by the government (based on recent Treasury data): ~25p goes to Social Protection (pensions and benefits). ~20p goes to Health (the NHS). ~10p goes to Education. ~10p goes to Interest on National Debt. The rest is split between defense, transport, and general public services. |
Majority of the Nigerian workforce are employed in the private and informal actors of the economy, and most of them are still ignorant of the negative implications of the new tax law until January to march 2027 when the actual tax deductions will be made, that's when it will hit hard, not now! By all standards a family man with multiple kids earning 400k per month(4.8million per year) is still very poor because that money is not enough for his expenses. But he'll still be taxed heavily Not to talk of those earning lesser. And the end of the day you still get no benefit for paying tax. |
