What really surprises me is that a lot of universities offering engineering courses dont have workshops, science depts dont have equipped lab etc. I really believe there are avenues to generate revenues in d schools. Now, d one million naira question is this 'who will be trusted since everyone in d system is looking for means to enrich their individual pockets'? Just as d graduates are expected not to solely rely on d government, likewise, d school system should not rely on d same government. Shikina!

planetuzor: There are a number of ways universities can still generate funds. Yes a number of ways..
1.Collecting tolls from all cars that comes into the sch premises. Yes, as little as a 50naira to all cars that comes into the school premises is something (50 x 500) = 25,000 per day.

2. School owned private partnership shuttles buses and cars.

3. Renting out Halls for Occasions and Anniversaries: At least in lagos the least cost of renting halls is about 250- 450k..

4. Getting funds in terms of loans from the banks(Infrastructure funds) to building more hostels for students. atleast students wont stay their for free. and banks are always willing to give every established organizations loan (they may not give start up businesses loans) but they chase established businesses organisations and institutions for loans. so the schools can get that, build more hostels for the students instead of wasting away those empty lands forest space. They could even decide to get the funds, get a land outside the sch to the commercial part of the city, build complexes,mini flats, estates and probably lease it out for residual income.... I like unilag for this, they have their own estate, very big estate several kilometers away from the location of the school to a choice place of HIGH networth individuals in Lagos called MAGODO. And I guess they leased it to both their lectures and non-lecturers. And they have their shopping complex too.

5. They should have their own radio stations and T.v STATIONS for commercials purposes generating residual income. I know Unilag has. Unilag Fm and some few schools too. My point is all the schools should have one. Even the should have a Print publishing company.

6. MY POINT IS, every school in Nigeria who are churning out students in various courses should also have that area of study for commercial purpose.... What would u say about a school that teach students Mechanical Engineering without a workshop both for the Students Training and on the Other hand A Commercial Servicing Arm? Especially in this part of the world where there are lots of quack mechanic workshop everywhere, the university's Own would be perceived as reliable and therefore patronized. And this Arm would have reduced the unemployment rate of the student they are churning out by retaining them inturn serving as an internally generated revenue for the school.

For Gods sake almost all the federal university I know have a very large land mass with arable lands left to be consumed unused with forests everywhere. This can all be converted to commercial centres for courses of specialty that can be commercialized.

For instance, I grew up to know some of the dictionary am using where from a university press, CAMBRIDGE, OXFORD and co... The FACT is "A training Centre should have a Service Centre".... I guess its because they dont have a service center(commercial centre) thats why they are so Outdated..
It was Just off recent that sch websites(ordinary website) became very interactive and presentable, before now and I mean like 4 years ago they where all quacks. You couldnt go to a university website and get every info u need abt that sch there, u have to visit the sch physically. whereas all they needed was just a good website with java script, Php and the likes integrated which an ordinary COMPUTER SCIENCE student who have spent 4yrs is suppose to do without hassles but I guess that wasnt the case here.

For instance why Could UNN a Whole University of Nigeria not integrate an Automatic Online Payment System interphase on their website so I wouldnt need to come over to the sch from lagos to register and pay for the Post DE exams and also the PostUME stdnts.. Before now its Really annoys me when some students say they are traveling to the sch to purchase one form or the order. this is what the I.T section, the computer science Department shouldt have a hard time doing is they have a Commercial ARM. It pained me very well then May be because I have a very little knowledge on programming and I know its a Very small thing to handle. but I wonder why most schs dont intergrate the online payment system then... Thanks to few of them that have been doing it now # Eying UNIBEN (Atleast that the one I know so far).......................................................................................

fayahsoul: as both elephants fight we d grass suffer. Gov. officials send their kids abroad or 2 private schools hence their apathy. federal universities remain unaccountable as 2 how much internal revenue dey generate n how its spent.

See, just trust me when I say this cos I can't explain...most universities do not have what it takes to internally generate any revenue...atleast not a meaninful sum....
If u doubt it let's then ask the question..how exactly are universities expected to generate money? Who wan come invest ni?
