True @StringerBell. Best thing to do is to try as much as possible to be affected by the wait minimally. Unfortunately, when others would be affected (cos of some big decisions made, huge money spent on training and equipment, end results in sight, etc.) if you would have to leave, then it becomes more than just about you and gets even worse the longer the wait. The choice would then be to either sympathize and forfeit your ambition, or leave them and pursue your ambition while they do damage control. Honestly, none of the two options seems pleasant and that has been my troubles.
Bro, I totally get you. But then look at it in this light. What if you never applied to NLNG? What if you were immersed in this project and another too-good-to-be-true opportunity came along from elsewhere that required you to leave immediately? Wouldn't you leave the project anyway? I'm just trying to stress that NLNG's presence is immaterial. Action or inaction, shit will still happen. Once again I agree it's a hard decision. You got this far though so I won't assume you are afraid of hard decisions. But then the easier it is, the more it takes away from its merit of being a "decision" in the first place. Goodluck.

Lol @ItsTime4me. Of course it affects everyone, at least we think about it. More important though is our reaction to it. Should one sit with folded arms waiting for the NLNG hammer to drop? Or go out there and engross oneself in life-bettering ventures or decisions? Don't mean to sound impudent but I chose the latter option towards the end of last year and I can't fully express how glorious things have been...so much that if the offer comes later than Sept, it might not make financial sense for me anymore. Let's not forget, this NLNG thing is not guaranteed for all, I can't stress that enough. Don't delay any decisions you need to take, unless you have none to take, then you're fine. Don't be afraid, even if you're headed in the wrong direction, it's in your best interest to get there early.
@Naastyme, keep trying and giving your best. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Don't let it be said of you that you didn't give your best.

Not a "sauce"' but you guys may not be contacted till Q4; resumption 2017 for a "selected few".
The finish line keeps moving.
On this thread, Qx 201y is a more accurate proposition. It's quite disturbing that an "unknown" variable is "known" to be more accurate. One might also ask how a "variable" is also "constant"....make I stop....NLNG is already confusing me. undecided
Food for thought: A TOEFL exam written on the same day as the WAEC stage is already invalid.

There are 3 things this assumption can mean:
1. Some people lie. They may declare they are not nairaland or that they only sometimes view as guest to protect their identity on this thread. The truth is that they may be very vocal members on this thread. It's a subterfuge designed to thwart u so u dont feel a sudden urge to begin to look out for them on the thread and pick off on the peculiarities in their writing style especially if u chat with them well on other platforms...
Probably right. I come on here maybe once in 3 or 4 days and I always view the thread as a guest, though this is not borne out of a desire to be deceptive. It's just a personal 'internet security whim' that makes me log off any online account I'm not using at that moment. I only log in to NL when I wanna 'comment' or 'like'. I'll be surprised if I'm the only one that does this.
In fact, with the variety of monikers that viewed this thread yesterday (my fav was 'sunnytooth' grin), it's probably the case. How else did they know a poll was going on if they weren't 'active viewers'? They probably just logged on to 'like' Naastyme's post. The guest population might be way fewer than we think or non-existent at all.

What I don't get is why some ppl were given closure and some others weren't. It's not like there's any certainty (based on the numbers mentioned here) that when the closure eventually comes, it's gonna be different from what some others got a long time ago. Why do some have to wait longer for the same outcome? This is the one thing I can single out as "unfair" in the entire process.

i prefer classical mechanics to the General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. The reason is that: studying classical mechanics provides you with a bit of fulfilment unlike quantum mechanics and general theory of relativity whose interpretation, we cannot know to complete and absolute precision. Studying them, leaves you hanging somewhere!
Lol. But isn't that the fantastic thing abt science? The fact that we do not know, are willing to admit it and kp searching? Gives life some sense of purpose!
Newtonian classical mechanics mostly applies to the realm of human experience and reality (medium-sized objects moving at medium speeds)..it's done and dusted! We have moved beyond our realm to Special Relativity (extremely high speeds), General Relativity (extremely large masses) and Quantum Mechanics (extremely tiny sub-atomic scales). The Hallmark will be the unification of all these in the still elusive "Theory of Everything" a.k.a. String Theory. These are exciting times for Physicists! I'm not evn one...I'm just a huge fan.
Back to the topic at hand...some ppl were discussing the practical applications of g-waves. Lol..guys chill! It's way too early! Imagine what had to come together for the g-waves to be detected in the first place.
First, based on the observed signals, LIGO scientists estimate that the two black holes that collided for this event were about 29 and 36 times the mass of the sun, and the event took place 1.3 billion years ago. About 3 times the mass of the sun was converted into gravitational waves in a fraction of a second—with a peak power output about 50 times that of the whole visible universe!
Second, the LIGO detector itself. It was a real tour-de-force of Science & Engineering. The detector had L-shaped arms with each arm a whooping 4km long, and there were two locations of this same set-up in different states, and with a capability of detecting a change in the lengths of the arms smaller than one-ten-thousandth the diameter of a proton (10-19 meter)! If that doesn't make your head spin, nothing will.
This was just for detection. Imagine what has to be built for practical manipulation. Nah...not in this generation nor the next!

how does the discovery of gravitational waves increases disbelief in creation?
Directly, it doesn't. It just lends more credence to science and the scientific process.
Consequent disbelief in all the "myths" out there is just an inevitable by-product.

You didn't answer my question. Just like plants can spring up from anywhere at anytime, why are human beings not springing up from anywhere according to scientist creation theory. Please answer the question.

Ahh..c'mon guys, don't be dispirited. It has bn a great run. To whittle the no. of successfuls down to 60 would require applying some "crazy" criteria some of which have bn alluded to here...ur age, ur gender, ur geopolitical zone, ur degree course, some hv evn mentioned the status of ur current workplace. Basically, it's gonna be smtn beyond ur control or smtn u couldn't have altered anyway. If anything at all, those that won't make it shld take solace in the fact that it wasn't a case of being "unworthy" but of being "unlucky".
Anyway...we wait.

@ ItsTime4me
Believe me, u aren't bugging ppl with ur musings..many folks would like to know the answers to those questions. The way I see it is simple though. Do the stats really matter? If u got into NLNG tomorrow, would u be as keen to knw how the stats were juggled? Same applies if u don't get in (u can say the customary "God forbid" here.) The probable reason u crave those clarifications right now is to aid u gauge how optimistic u should be....which in my opinion does more harm than good cos that mail was as bland as it gets. The pseudo-importance of the mail had nothing to do with the mail itself but was due to the regret mails that were sent. So pls relax...try to put it outta ur mind and move on... while u still believe in your Jah's undeserved kindness. smiley

Goodday house, its good a know a forum like this exists. I am an immigration officer based in abuja and working here and would be glad to answer all your questions and be of help as regards to how to Obtain a Nigerian e passport, reissue, lost or stolen case
Hi,
Please I have a passport that will expire in June 2016 and I need to apply for a visa around that time. Can I renew the passport before the expiry date or do I have to wait for the passport to expire? Also, do I get to retain possession of the old passport after a new one is issued?
Thanks.

bros if I wanna buy a stuff of 300$ in amazon with my Uba naira master card how much will I be charged? d 208?? or Uba will top it?? pls explain...thanks
Well, I don't knw abt UBA but let me share my GTB experience with u so u can have an idea what might happen. The price of the Gift card I purchased was $300 but I chose the option to pay in Naira which amazon calculated to become N62,400. (N208/$1). After I paid, I got a text from GTB saying "The Naira equivalent of $275 has been authorised on ur account". (The gift card was worth $300 so I was surprised at the $275 quoted by GTB. I figured they converted the N62,400 displayed by amazon at a rate of N227/$1.) Then Lo and Behold, I got a debit alert of N68,750. Which means that the $275 was multiplied by N250! Well, the bottomline is that choosing the "pay in Naira" option actually helped, otherwise it would have been $300 × N250 = N75,000.

Can one use the gift card to pay on other merchant sites apart from amazon, like the conventional debit/credit cards?
Nope...amazon.com only.

Ymodulus:
Lol grin grin

Sir the rate for Amazon when you use a naira MasterCard is 208naira / $1.

So you have to rethink your price.
I agree. It's N208/$1 on Amazon but try purchasing something and see how much u are charged. I bought the $300 Gift card and GTB charged me at a rate of N250/$1. The Naira equivalent displayed on amazon.com isn't what you end up paying. I heard some banks actually allow u pay the exact amount on amazon.com but GTB is worse than the devil right now. So for anyone in my "bank shoes" but need to make a purchase on amazon... N239/$1 is a give-away.
Technology MarketRe: Exchange Rates Of International Currencies >>>Updates on First Page<<< by StringerBell: 7:47am On Dec 18, 2015
I've got a $300 Amazon Gift Card for sale at N239/$1. Holla if interested.

After Revolver, I went straight to the net and was glad everyone was as confused as I was. grin

I'm not for or against talking about NLNG in whatever light here, but sha the thing con funny to me. Been trying to play the scene in my head all day...

Act 1 Scene 1: *NLNG HR Officer assigned to monitor Nairaland GT Recruitment Thread resumes office and logs on Nairaland*

*Whispers to himself* These candidates have started talking trash about us again! I will go and report this!!!

Act 1 Scene 2: *He walks into Head of HR Office* *Greets HR Head* "Good morning Sir. As part of the duties you assigned to me, I have discovered that those our candidates are talking ill of the company and portraying us in bad light".

HR Head: *Mumbles some words to himself* What were they saying?

HR Officer (Nairaland GT Thread): They were complaining that they have waited for too long and not a word from us.
Let's continue the remix frm here:
HR Head: "Really? But why are they restless now? It took us longer to conduct the AC after the SHL stage and nothing happened.
HR Officer: "Yes sir, but we sent them an e-mail informing them about the cause of the delay and a proposed date for the next stage.
HR Head: "Oh yeah. Well I guess we know what to do then?
HR Officer: "But sir, we are still busy with the Experienced hires, plus the results of the..."
HR Head: (Interrupts) "Yes, but we should say something. What are our values again?"
HR Officer: Excellence, Teamwork, Integrity and Cari....oh! now I see your point sir. Ok, I'll do so sir.
HR Head: By the way, I heard some of them are so clever and are displaying some FBI skills. On that note, we didn't have this conversation. Infact, this meeting never happened. You understand?
HR Officer: "Which meeting sir?"
HR Head: (Smiling) "That's my boy".
HR Head: One more thing, send a congratulatory message to Forkaddict.
HR Officer: "Forkaddict? What kind of name is that? How can someone be addicted to....oohhh! Now I get it!
HR Head: "Get out of my office!"

Congrats Forkaddict!

In life, it's always better to keep calm on things you do not have control over. Just pray for the best because no amount of worries or lamentations will change anything.
In other words, it's at least acceptable to run wild with the things you do have control over...one of which is free speech.
Let ppl vent if they need to, it's healthy. Plus one major driver of change is "a high degree of dissatisfaction with the current situation".
NLNG should be proud that their prospective employees detest mediocrity, from within or without.

Maybe I'm wired differently...right now I'm more interested in receiving the e-mail than in what it actually contains. So many other decisions to make outside of NLNG. Yea, it's a gd job, but it's a "means" not the "end". But I can't commit to any other "means" cos I need all my cards on the table. It's the time-wasting that's hurting me more.
