Heyllo ma'am, look at the lesson quoted above, following the instructions - use your spoon as your measuring tool.

I think the above is even better and simpler. Please, feel free to ask if you are still not clear.

Thanks.

Using the red cover as our measuring tool:

1. Caustic soda......1 unit

2. Soda ash...........1 unit

3. P.K.O................7 units

4. Sodium Sulphate.....1/10 unit

Direction

- Dilute the caustic soda with 3 units of water

-Dilute the soda ash with 3 units of water

-Add the sodium sulphate into the dissolved caustic soda and stir

PREPARATION:

- Pour the PKO into an empty dry container

- Add the dissolved caustic soda (solution of caustic soda and sodium sulphate) and stir

- Add the dissolved soda ash and stir

- keep stirring till trace is reached.

-Now, pour out the pap like mixture into the mould and allow to stand for about 4-7 hours.

Remove from mould and allow to cure for 2-4 weeks.

Before you move on with the experiment, hold on for an explanation on some important point to note.

Be right back.

Thanks.

Good morning Strongbest, I have been following ur thread for quiet sometime now and I must say Kudos. I went market yesterday to buy items for bar soap production, the seller haven discover I know little about it insist I buy sulphurnic acid and sodium silicate for the bar soap. What's ur advice?
Heyllo ma'am, it's good to know you are here with us.

Seriously, you don't need sulphurnic acid in bar soap. You may get the sodium silicate. If you have a copy of my old ebook, you would notice we made use of it there in our toilet soap.

Basically, anything you use depends on the brand of soap you have in mind to produce.

Heyllo Ma'am/Sir, did you allow the soap to cure before use? If you followed the method given here the soap should last long.

Try and let me know how long you kept the soap for curing before use.

Caustic soda...........1 cup
Soda ash.................1 cup
Oil (PKO)..................3 cups

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Dilute the caustic soda with three cups of water

2.Dilute the soda ash with three cups of water also
You'll only be needing one cup each from the diluted caustic soda and soda ash. You can keep the remaining solution for another experiment or another batch of the experiment if you wish.

Or if you are not going for another batch, to avoid waste of your raw materials, simply use this formula:

-1/3cup of caustic soda diluted with one cup of water

-1/3 soda ash diluted with one cup of water

PROCEDURE

1. Put the oil in a dry pan or pot and apply heat enough to warm up the oil (do not fry please)
You may also just stir vigorously if you don't want to use heat at all in order to get your oil warmed up. But please, if the oil is in a solid state, make sure you apply heat to melt.

2. Add one cup of the diluted caustic soda (lye) and stir properly

3. Add 1 cup of the dissolved soda ash and stir properly also. Continue to stir till trace is reached.

Then pour the 'pap look like' solution into your prepared moulds. Allow to stand for 24 hours, remove from mould and allow to cure for 3-6 weeks.

What you'll have at the end of this experiment is a white colour soap.

ABOUT MOULD

You can use soap dishes (the plastic type) as your mould.
Or simply construct a wooden mould. You can ask for samples if you have no idea of what your wooden mould should look like.

Conclusion: you'll notice we didn't use up to 500 naira for this practical. And you still have enough chemicals left.
So, go ahead and produce your first bar soap. It'll encourage me to do more.

Thanks.

Hello Strongbest
Are we to use the 3 cups of Pko in this production?
Yes Sir.

Please how do i dissolve sls? I tried dissolving it some water but it stayed the same.
And also, please how do i make liquid soap transparent?
Heyllo ma'am, the water you are using might not be enough, that's the basic reason the SLS isn't dissolving. Solution: increase the quantity of water you are using to dissolve the SLS and stir.

Transparent as how? Well, if you mean glowing; the liquid soap should glow using the method here, the colour should be light as in, not too much colorant should be added.

Our lecturer good evening sir, want first appreciate u for all ur wonderful works here which am a beneficiary I pray dat God will continue to increase ur wisdom. Pls sir i jst started my production today and i will like to know if there is any preservative for antiseptic and if non hw long can it stay? Thanks
Evening Sire. The pleasure is all mine and a very big amen to your prayers.

I'm glad you've started something already. Sir, most of the chemicals used in the production of antiseptics are preservatives themselves. For instance, alcohol can be used singly as a preservative in most of our products. So, there's no need for any special preservatives in antiseptics.

The product can last for as long as 1-2 years and above provided it's kept in a cool dry place. Sun is the biggest enemy of such product. Let me also add that, the longer it stays the less effective it becomes.

Hello Strongbest, I got your ebook, produced a liquid soap and market it around the neighborhood. Met this laundry guy and he said he doesn't like it with color and asked if I can produce it transparent (colorless) but I know Sulphurnic acid has it own color apart from adding external color. How should I go about this please? Can the Sulphurnic acid be replaced or has it color neutralized?
Heyllo Sir, I'm glad to know you got your self a copy of my ebook already.

Following the usual procedures, produce the liquid soap, don't add any colour, allow it to settle down and let the foams to go off, you'll see the beauty of a colourless liquid soap. the sulphurnic acid won't show up it's colour at all. It's going to be pure white.

Ensure you rinse your stirring rod and containers to ride them of colourant from previous production.

Heyllo ma/sir, there's this common place in Ibadan that you can get all your chemicals. I can't recall the name of the place precisely right now. You can get to Bodoja market (not so sure of the spelling though) and ask for where to get chemicals.

Please, anyone here with a better description of the place should kindly help out.
