President William Ruto offered a donation of roughly $40,000 (£32,000), but the Catholic Church in Kenya turned it down.
During Sunday's Mass at the Soweto Catholic Church in Nairobi's capital, he presented the funds to the choir as a gift and to help build a priest's home.
The contribution came after Catholic bishops recently criticized the government for not keeping its election pledges.
Young anti-tax demonstrators have put pressure on churches this year, accusing them of having too close ties to politicians.

The Catholic Church was urged by many Kenyans to reject Ruto's widely reported donation on Sunday.
The president promised to provide a bus for the parish and gave about 2.6 million Kenyan shillings ($20,000, £16,000) in cash, with the remaining funds to be pledged later.
According to Philip Anyolo, the Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi, "ethical concerns and the need to safeguard the Church from being used for political purposes" are the reasons why the money will be returned.
He also declined his other promises, stating that 200,000 Kenyan shillings that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who was present at the service, had donated was being returned.

"The Catholic Church strongly discourages the use of church events such as fundraisers and gatherings as platforms for political self-promotion," Archbishop Anyolo said.

He added that such donations violated both Kenyan law and church directives.
In a nation where over 80% of people identify as Christian, the long-standing relationships between churches and political institutions appear to be eroding.
Established churches forbade politicians from accepting donations in exchange for the pulpit during services three years ago.
However, young protesters accused the churches of supporting the government when it decided to impose new taxes earlier this year, indicating that the relationship was still seen as close.

Many criticized the churches for not supporting them during the deadly protests that broke out in response to the proposed tax hikes, using the social media hashtag #OccupyChurch.
President Ruto's administration was forced to rescind the contentious finance bill in July due to the outcry.
The government was accused of fostering a "culture of lies" by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, which speaks for all of the nation's Catholic bishops, last week.
In a damning declaration, it also brought up issues of unemployment, human rights violations, corruption, overtaxation, and a "crumbling" healthcare and education system.

"Despite the calmness we are experiencing, there is a lot of anxiety and most people are losing trust in the government," it said.

President Ruto in his response seemingly hit back at the clergy, saying "we must be careful to give factual information lest we become victims of the things we accuse others of doing".

In a similar development, a senator allied to government, Aaron Cheruiyot, also accused the church of "misinformation", adding that the "clergy must avoid being purveyors of propaganda, fake news and falsehoods".

According to government statistics, there are an estimated 10 million Catholic Christians in Kenya, or roughly 20% of the country's total population.
Other Christians are members of various denominations and evangelical churches, such as the Anglican Church of Kenya, which has supported the Catholic Church's stance.

According to Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, many Kenyans' sentiments were mirrored by the Catholic bishops.

"Calling church leaders names or dismissing the bishops' statement as ‘misleading, erroneous and false,’ is itself dishonest," he said.

"The Catholic Bishops have spoken the minds of Kenyans and faithfully expressed the truth as things are on the ground," he added.

Three Men have reportedly stormed a Church in South Africa to beat up the Pastor, Abi Adeleke, while preaching for allegedly impregnating a lady and denying responsibility for the act.

The three men are said to be Brothers to the pregnant lady.

A Twitter user who shared the incident said the Men vowed to continue beating the Pastor every Sunday until he owns up to the pregnancy.

"This is pastor Abi Adeleke. 3 men entered his church in Soweto this morning & beat him up him while preaching because he impregnated their sister & denied the pregnancy. The men said they will beat Abi every Sunday until he takes responsibility. Abi refused a DNA several times", the tweet read.

It's unclear if the embattled pastor is related to the Adeleke family in Nigeria.

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has revealed that the People Democratic Party, PDP, is under a curse that requires spiritual cleansing.

Primate Ayodele who disclosed this on Sunday said that the main opposition party has been cursed and it is affecting the party’s victory at the central, except the party undergoes spiritual cleansing.

In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the prophet stated that the spell over PDP will continue to make the party unstable till it is no longer viable for candidates to win any kind of election.

He said: “There is a spell on PDP. The party needs to undergo cleansing and look for a real candidate at the central otherwise, the curse will make them unstable till it gets to a stage where no kind of elections can be won anymore.”

Primate Ayodele further said that if peradventure, a glorious person becomes the candidate of the party, especially for the 2027 general election, the spell will also affect the victory of the person except there is a form of spiritual cleansing in the party.

“Even if a glorious person comes out of the party as a candidate, the curse will not make such a candidate win. If the party doesn’t cleanse itself, even some governors will be affected, they won’t get their second term,” he added.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has imposed a 24 hour curfew in parts of the state.

This follows the violent dimension the ongoing #ENDSARS Protests have with destruction and looting of private and public property.


The Governor in a state-wide broadcast on Wednesday regretted that the protest has been hijacked by hoodlums to unleash carnage and destroy property.


He recalled how earlier today, some hoodlums attacked and destroyed Police Stations and Court buildings in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the State and also how another set of hooligans were on rampage at the Ikokwu spare parts markets disturbing public peace and damaging property.


Gov. Wike emphatically stated that " As a Government, we cannot watch helplessly and allow trouble-makers to take the laws into their hands and use the current situation to create a state of panic and insecurity".


In order to prevent the continuation of such sad occurrences, Gov.Wike said " the State’s Security Council met today and decided to take the following measures to secure lives and property in the State:

(i) A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Mile 1, Mile 2, Emenike, Ikokwu and Iloaubuchi arears of Port Harcourt from 6.30 p.m. today 21st October 2020.


(ii) A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on the entire Oyigbo Local Government Area from 6.30 p.m. today, 21st October 2020;


(iii) A 24-hour curfew has also been imposed on Oil mill area in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area;


(iv) Security agencies are directed to enforce the curfew with effect from 6.30 p.m. today 21st October 2020; and


(v). Local Government Chairmen are directed to mobilize vigilantes and work with security agencies to ensure that no hoodlum is allowed to disturb the peace or destroy lives and property in their Local Government Areas."

He urge all citizens to remain vigilant and report all suspicious characters to the security agencies for immediate action.


The Governor further appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used to roll-back the peace we are enjoying in the State under any pretext.

A member of the APM Party from Ogun State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kolawole Lawal, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).


Lawal, announced his defection on Tuesday via a letter to the House read by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.


He blamed his defection from the APM on existing factions in the party.


Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the PDP, has frown at the defection describing it as unconstitutional.

Reacting after the Speaker asked the Deputy Minority Leader, Tobi Okechukwu, if he had any objection to the defection, he told the Speaker to obey the provisions of the Constitution and declare the seat of the lawmakers vacant.

But the Speaker asked: “Do you remember when 48 members dumped the APC and joined the PDP? Do you remember what I said and what you told me? Why did you not raise the constitutional issue then?”


Okechukwu replied: “Mr Speaker, I remembered. It was apparent that the APC was factionalised then.”


The Speaker however overruled him, saying: “This issue was raised last week. In any case, your observation is noted and also refused to allow Him.”

Tacha had earlier announced that the protest will hold in Portharcourt on Tuesday.


But in a tweet on Tuesday morning, Tacha said the protest has been cancelled.


No reason was given for the disappointing cancellation.

The Rivers State Government led by Gov.Nyesom Wike has reminded citizens and residents of a general ban on all forms of protests throughout the State.

This is coming ahead of the #ENDSARS Protest this Tuesday in Portharcourt, the Rivers State capital.

In a government special announcement signed by Information Commissioner, Paulinus Nsirim, the Rivers State Government specifically said :

"..... all proposed protests under #End SARS Campaign are hereby prohibited.

On why the decision was taken, the statement added that "Government took this decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists."


Mr.Nsirim warned "Parents and Guardians to ensure that their children or wards do not violate this order.".

The statement further directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.

The reelected governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has described his estranged deputy, Agboola Ajayi has a snake that had to go for him to sleep well.


The governor stated this in a post-election victory interview.


Gov.Akeredolu said the betrayal of Mr.Ajayi has taught him a lesson in politics.


“The event that commenced this process like the Deputy Governor who decided to jump ship. I was shocked too. Although, I got to know it’s going to happen when I saw his movements. I said okay, this man has made up his mind to go.


“I think God answered my prayer, I was praying for him to go and I think he has to go anyway because you cannot have people who will be there and want to stab you at the back and you want to keep them in the house, no.


“You cannot have a snake under your roof and think you can sleep well. So, it was good we asked the snake to go, so we had to sleep properly.


“So, that’s taught me a lesson in politics. But it’s not a new thing. It has happened over and over, right here in South West, even in the North, everywhere.


He expressed optimism that the Deputy-Elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would not betray him like Agboola.


Gov.Akeredolu also expressed shock at the results of Akure South, Akure North, and Ifedore local government areas where the PDP Candidate, Eyitayo Jegede defeated him.


He added that He thought he would win in those localities because he worked in those areas where he said people turned against the APC


“I’m shocked at what happened in Akure because I take Akure South, Akure North, and Ifedore as one Akure. So, I’m shocked at the development there.


“But I’ll put that behind me. I’ll move forward. I thought I would win in Akure because I worked in those three local governments where people turned against us. But it’s alright with me. We’ll forget it.”

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has suspended his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Yakasai, for criticising the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

The PUNCH reports that Yakasai lambasted Buhari for not addressing Nigerians amid national outrage as well as days of online and offline protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

Yakasai, who tweeted through his handle, @dawisu, had said the President has no empathy for Nigerians by his inaction.

The media aide wrote this shortly before the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, announced the disbandment of SARS in Abuja on Sunday afternoon.

Yakasai had tweeted, “I have never seen a government with zero empathy like that of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“So many times when his people are going through a difficult time and expect some sort of tap on shoulder to reassure them that he is in charge, but he failed to do so.

“The ‘I don’t care attitude’ is on another level.

“To speak to your own people over issues that are bedevilling them has become something like a favour you are doing to them.

“Over and over again, you cannot spare five minutes to address the nation to calm them down, the same people you went to the 36 states to beg for their votes, it is heartbreaking.”

Reacting in a statement, the Kano State Government described Yakasai’s comments as “unguarded utterances”, noting that his suspension was with immediate effect.

The statement was titled ‘Ganduje Suspends Media Aide Over Attack On Buhari’ and signed by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammed Garba.

The statement released on Sunday afternoon partly read, “Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has suspended his Special Adviser on Media, Salihu Tanko Yakasai over some unguarded utterances on the person of President Muhammadu Buhari on the social media platform.

“The state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, who conveyed the governor’s directive in a statement this afternoon, said the suspension is with immediate effect.

“He said that though the media aide has own up the indiscreet comment as his personal opinion, but that as a public figure, it will be difficult to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern.

“The governor, therefore, warned political appointees and public servants to guard against making statements capable of drawing unnecessary controversy and heating up the polity.”

Ganduje had in April sacked the state’s Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mu’azu Magaji, for celebrating the death of the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Ondo State deputy governor and Governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, Agboola Ajayi, has lost his local government area.


According to the official results announced by INEC, Mr.Ajayi polled 4,760 votes in his Ese Odo LGA.


The APC Candidate polled 13,383 votes while that of PDP got 4,680 votes.


Any moment from now, the final results will be announced since all the results from the 18 LGAs have now been received and officially announced.

Ahead of the Senatorial by-election for Bayelsa West on October 31, an aggrieved chieftain of the PDP has dragged Seriake Dickson to court.


Dickson, the immediate past governor of the state is the Senatorial candidate of the PDP.


The aggrieved PDP Chieftain, Owoupele Eneoriekumoh, who is also a kinsman of Dickson has filed a suit in a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking the disqualification of the former governor.


Eneoriekumoh is alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Form EC9, which Dickson submitted to the commission, contained false information.


Dickson's main opponent is former deputy governor, Peremobowei Ebebi of the APC.

Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, GSSRS, has lifted the suspension of the Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government, Hon Victor Ihunwo.

This was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, Secretary to the State Government.

According to the statement, the Chairman is to resume normal duties immediately.


The governor also strictly warned the embattled Mayor to abide by all the rules governing local government administration.

Gov.Wike further warned Mr. Ihunwo to desist from engaging in all forms of illegal or double taxation or any other acts against public interest.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Dr. Sampson Parker, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.


Dr.Parker, former Commissioner of Health in the Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi administration, led over 2,000 of his supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Okochiri in Okrika Local Government Area on Sunday.


Excited by his return to the PDP, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike while speaking at the event announced the award of the second phase of Okochiri Internal Roads in Okrika Local Government Area for the people of Krikese Kingdom.


A statement from Information Commissioner, Paulinus Nsirim on Sunday added that Gov.Wike also announced the award of the reclamation of 25 hectares of land at the ATC area in Okrika Island as well as the construction of Wakama-Ogu Road in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area.


"I was here last time and I promised the people of Krikesegbese that I am going to award the second phase of the Okochiri Internal Roads.


"I also told the people of Krikesegbese that I am going to sandfill 25 hectares of land at the ATC area of Okrika Island.

"Again, I told you people that I am going to award the Wakama-Ogu Road in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area.


"As today, those contracts have been awarded since last week Friday and they will be executed by indigenes of your area," he stated


Governor Wike lauded Dr. Sampson Parker for taking the bold step to come back to his former Party.

He recalled the role played by Dr. Parker in the emergence of former Governor Rotimi Chibike Amaechi in 2007 and that his coming back to the PDP would add value to the Party.

Governor Wike urged political leaders in the area not to discriminate him, but ensure that he be carried along in the scheme of things.

"Dr. Parker was one of those God used alongside some of us to bring Amaechi in as Governor of Rivers State in 2007.

"We thought that from that time, everybody will be united, but we didn't know that some persons had different plans, but God's plan is always the best.

"When I was leaving in 2012, I told Dr. Parker that things are not moving well and I am going. But he insisted that I should remain as there was need for us to continue to be together.

"But I am happy today that my friend and brother has realized what I told him then and has returned to the PDP.

"Dr. Parker came at the right time and nobody should discriminate him because with the level of politics he had played, he will add value to the Party", the Governor said.


In his speech, the former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker described the occasion as home coming to the PDP family.

He stated that his conscience and soul are at peace with his decision and pledged his loyalty to the Party.

Dr. Parker lauded Governor Wike's developmental strides in Krikese Kingdom and thanked him for accepting his return to the PDP.

Meanwhile,the Rivers State Chairman of PDP, Ambassador Desmond Akawor who received Dr. Parker into the Party said the decision of the former Health Commissioner was based on the massive development projects the Governor has sited across the State.

He described former Governor Chibuike Amaechi as politically dead, having lost key political allies in succession to the PDP.

In his goodwill message, the Leader of PDP in Okrika Local Government Area, Dr. Abiye Sekibo thanked Governor Wike for always rising to the occasion in defense of the people of Krikesegbese.

Amaechi's Projects To Rivers People Are Hatred, Division, Bloodbath & Oppression - Ateke Tom's Kinsmen


The People of Okochiri Kingdom in Rivers State under the kingship of HRM King Ateke Michael Tom, a former militant leader, have slammed former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.


In a statement signed by Chief Jackson Adoki Ibitienbo, the Chairman Okochiri Kingdom Council of Chiefs, Amaechi, who is the current Minister of Transportation was accused of attracting no meaningful projects to Rivers State except hatred, division, bloodbath and oppression.

The Community agreed with the recent position of Gov.Nyesom Wike who had in a recent interview blasted his predecessor accusing him of elephant projects.

The attack from the Okochiri People was due to an earlier statement credited to Mr.Amaechi, in which He made an uncomplimentary comment to Ateke, who is now their king.


Naija Politics Hub recalls that Mr.Amaechi while speaking recently at the burial of Elder Statesman, The Honorable Justice Adolphus Karibi-White had made reference to Ateke thus:

"Everyone is scared, we are going back to when Ateke held sway. We are going back to the period where we run away from our people".

"The people of Okochiri kingdom, like all Wakirike people are a peace loving people but not cowards and will want to call on the former Governor Rotimi Amaechi to take his uncouth mouth to the arena of jackals where he is a Chief.


As a Kingdom we are appalled at the callous manner Amaechi has exhibited his lack of respect for the Ancient Okochiri Kingdom but not surprised because the lack of proper breeding cannot be compensated for by political opportunism.

We condemn this in it's totality and call for caution as we will no longer entertain such despicable and uncultured behavior which he has exhibited at every given opportunity.


While he was Governor of Rivers State, he wasn’t short of such conduct and as such insulted and harassed respected traditional rulers at will, including the traditional ruler of Abonnema in whose domain he made such disparaging remarks on the person of King Ateke Tom.


Amaechi should know that his incessant hatred for King Ateke Tom is of public knowledge and a source of concern for all right thinking persons.

We call on Amaechi to grapple with the hyenas in his head and the political extinction facing him rather than constantly pick on a king whose acceptance, generosity and popularity has made him a toast of his people.


May we remind him that as the minister of transportation all he has given to Rivers people as projects are his hatred, division, bloodbath and oppression, while the present governor employs every means to repair the the damages.


Rotimi Amaechi after leaving Rivers State as Governor has never said anything good about Rivers State. He is a man who never sees anything good in other people’s effort, he doesn’t understand what true politics without hatred in the spirit of sportsmanship is all about.

He sees every opinion that is contrary to his, no matter how good,as immaterial. This denied his party in the last election the right to submit a Governorship candidate and candidates for other elective positions in Rivers State.


May Amaechi continue to live and wallow in this mirage, while Rivers State continues to make productive progress without his input as a serving federal minister from Rivers State.


His continuous demarketing of Rivers State and indeed any body that has anything good to offer Rivers State has caused the state a huge loss economically.

Newly reelected Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, have received their certificates of Return from INEC.


Naija Politics Hub recalls that the duo won the governorship election which held last Saturday in Edo state.


Their reelection certificates were presented to them on behalf of INEC by the National Commissioner in charge of Edo, Bayelsa and Rivers, May Agbamuche-Mbu on Tuesday in Benin City.


May Agbamuche-Mbu And the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner, Johnson Alalibo, while speaking at the brief ceremony expressed gratitude to the people of Edo and other key players for the successful conduct of a peaceful election.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has finally reacted to the defeat of the party in just concluded Edo Election.


Tinubu in a statement on Monday urged his supporters and partymen to be consoled by their earlier victories and also find the courage to take pleasure in their defeats.


He expressed pride at the extent the opposition went just to bring his party down in the contest, saying that it's an indication of greatness.


The former Lagos State Governor concluded that against the general belief by some persons, they are just men and not gods.

Former President, Dr.Goodluck Jonathan, has congratulated the winner of the just conclude governorship election in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.



Dr.Jonathan in series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday also hailed INEC and the good people of Edo State.

Former lawmaker from Kaduna State, Senator Shehu Sani, has condemned the recent killing of a militia warlord in Benue State, Terwase Akwaza, alias Gana.


Naija Politics Hub reports that Gana who had recently surrendered and accepted an amnesty offer by the Benue State Government was on Tuesday killed by the Military in Nasarawa.


The Military also claimed to have captured about forty of his men in the encounter after a gun battle.


All these were disclosed by the Commander of the Four Special Forces Command, Doma Local Government Area, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama.


However, Senator Sani in his reaction to the killing of Gana said such actions by the Military will discourage other militia leaders from surrendering which will further endanger peace moves across the country.


"To ‘kill’ a person who ‘surrendered’ would discourage others from surrendering," he tweeted.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has warned Organised Labour in Rivers State against embarking on its planned protest and strike action.



Speaking through the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, Gov.Wike said NLC is abandoning a subsisting court case reserved for judgement on September 29, 2020 to embark on its threatened current strike, which will amount to Contempt of court.



He accused the State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress( NLC ) of colluding with its national leadership to force industrial action on workers in the State.



Briefing journalists in Port Harcourt, Prof. Adangor said explained that on the 16th March 2020, the Organised Labour issued seven days notice for an indefinite strike but failed as scheduled for midnight 23rd March 2020.



He said a suit was instituted by the Rivers State Government at the Port Harcourt Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria seeking interpretation to the enabling laws relating to the strike.



According to him, the originating summons was heard and instead of NLC to await the judgment that is reserved for September 29, 2020, they are calling for another strike.



"The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, failed or neglected to fulfil the condition precedent for the declaration of the strike action as prescribed in Section 4,6 and 18(1)(a) of the Trade Dispute Act, Cap T8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.



"Surprisingly, while the suit No. NICN/PH/41/2020 is still pending and the Interim Order of Injunction issued therein still subsisting, the defendants acting in collusion and concert with the national leadership of the Organised Labour (NLC and TUC) issued another threat of fresh strike in Rivers state based on the same reasons," he stated.



The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice noted that in the face of overt and unmitigated illegality by Organised Labour, the Rivers State Government approached the Court because it believes in the rule of law.



According to him, the government obtained an Interim Injunction from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Lagos to stop the labour strike while also seeking interpretation of provisions of the Trade Dispute Act and Trade Union Act.



Prof. Adangor said with the subsisting matter in court and the order of Interim Injunction, the organised labour in Rivers state would be committing contempt of court if it embarks on industrial action.



"The trial court after hearing extensive legal argument from the Attorney General of Rivers state granted an order of Interim Injunction restraining all the Defendants on record.



" Whether by themselves or through their servants, agents, privies, officers or otherwise howsoever called from embarking on a strike action in Rivers State on 5th, 6th, or 7th September 2020 or any other date whether earlier or later, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for Interlocutory Injunction," he stated.



Prof. Adangor said all the Defendants had been duly served with the Order of Interim Injunction and they cannot claim otherwise.



He stated that the affidavits of service had been filed in the registry of the court after substituted means of service was used.



According to him, the Vanguard and the Daily Sun Newspapers of Thursday, September 3, 2020 were used, which is legally binding on the Defendants.



"Every disobedience of an Order of Court constitutes contempt of Court. The organised Labour is therefore warned against any act of overt or subtle disobedience of the substituting order," he added.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the postponement of the resumption of international flights.


This was disclosed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Thursday.


According to the NCAA, the resumption of international flights has now been shifted to September 5.
