Gov.Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the State will not fail to protect a former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), Joi Nunieh, who he described as a "Daughter" of Rivers State from actual harm or perceived danger. This is coming amidst an ongoing debacle between Madam Nunieh and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio over fraud in the commission amidst a forensic audit to probe financial recklessness in the NDDC. A recent fireback by Madam Nunieh at Senator Akpabio with very weighty allegations has raised concerns over her security. However, Gov.Wike in a statement signed by Information Commissioner, Paulinus Nsirim said: "Rivers State Government has viewed with concern, the recent developments at the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) in which the name of our daughter, Dr. Joi Nunieh, the immediate past Acting Managing Director of the Commission, has been dragged into." Gov.Wike called on those involved in the ongoing investigations in the NDDC to ensure that Dr. Joi Nunieh does not suffer any harm in the course of their undertakings. "We wish to state categorically that the Rivers State Government will never support any action that will prevent or jeopardize the laudable intentions of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to positively reposition the NDDC and fulfill the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the Niger Delta. However, we wish to state that while we are not interested in identifying with the present unfolding drama in the NDDC, we will not however fail to protect our daughter from actual harm or perceived danger. The State owes it as a duty to protect her citizens from danger no matter their political affiliation and we cannot fold our hands and watch anyone harm her or indeed any Rivers citizen", the statement read. The Governor further advised those involved in the present altercations in the NDDC to thread with caution in their actions and utterances. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to step aside following the unending frauds been exposed in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). "The PDP demands that Senator Akpabio should step aside and submit himself for investigation over these weighty allegations", the party stated in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan on Monday. The party said the fraud going on in the NDDC is just a tip of the iceberg of the stinking corruption and criminal racketeering that have pervaded the the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, under President Muhammadu Buhari , describing it as "rotten". According to the PDP, the shocking details of allegation by the former NDDC Managing Director, Joy Nunieh, of massive stealing, manipulation of budget processes, victimization and implication of innocent Nigerians as well as fetish practices by corrupt officials, allegedly spearheaded by the supervising minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio, have further exposed how ministries, agencies and departments (MDAs) are run under the Buhari administration. The party also said it has observed that the silence and inaction by the Buhari Presidency and the APC since the uncovering of the fraud in the NDDC signpost complicity at the highest levels as well as validate public stance that treasury looting and cover up for corrupt persons are normal official statecraft and manifesto of the APC and Buhari Government. The statement added that "Nigerians are still in a state of shock over reports of how the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Akpabio, allegedly bullied officials to pillage the Commission’s foreign currency account; how the laid down procedures of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) are allegedly circumvented to siphon unapproved budgets as well as how innocent workers and federal legislators, who are averse to corrupt practices, were victimized, implicated and even harassed with fetish practices. The allegation by the former NDDC MD that a certain NDDC top notch said he can kill if Senator Akpabio asks him to do so, shows the level of recklessness and the victimization in MDAs under the APC Rule." It further stated that "More distressing is that the Buhari Presidency and the APC had remained silent even when the embattled minister has not provided any concrete defence to the allegations beyond personal attacks on the whistle blower. Nigerians will recall that our party had in April, alerted of massive looting in the NDDC and called for investigation, which was however not addressed by the government. Our party had also alerted that the NDDC management has not been able to give cogent explanation to the reported Lassa fever contract fraud through which over N4 billion naira NDDC fund was alleged to have been frittered on hazy procurement deals. This is in addition to alleged N5.5 billion COVID-19 scandal which trails reports that the NDDC had already spent over N1.045 billion purportedly for supply of kits and palliatives to Nigerians in nine states". The PDP said it holds that any credible administration like the one the APC and the Buhari Presidency would want Nigerians to believe as running, would have spoken out and commenced immediate investigation into the matter, if its officials are not complicit. The party therefore charged President Buhari to speak out on the issue, particularly, given the delicate nature of the Niger Delta, and take steps to investigate and prosecute all those involved in the alleged fraud. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has imposed another curfew on Bonny Local Government Area and Onne Community in Eleme Local Government Area. This new curfew which shall be from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. commencing from 10th July 2020 until further notice, is coming few days after the governor suspended a total lockdown of the two areas due to the wild spread of the Coronavirus. "Also, as a further measure to sustaining the progress we have made, the Security Council has decided to place a nighttime curfew, from 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. on Bonny Local Government Area, and Onne community in Eleme Local Government Area, with effect from 10th July 2020 until further notice. These and all other measures are very important, and the more we strictly apply and comply with them, the quicker are we going to slow the spread and eventually kick out this pandemic from our State. As a Government, we are serious with our own responsibilities and those who take our resolve for granted and think that they can undermine our efforts at will without suffering consequences are gravely mistaken". Gov.Wike stated this in a state wide broadcast on Wednesday night in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. The Governor also announced the sack of the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Mr. Sunny Okere for floating the Covid-19 guidelines on burials. "Consequently, the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Mr. Sunny Okere has been relieved of his appointment with immediate effect for flouting and obstructing the enforcement of the guidelines on public burials. This should serve as a lesson to all other public officers who may wish to be irresponsible." Giving an update on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in Rivers State, Gov.Wike said: "As at today 8 July 2020, the COVID-19 status of our State is as follows: Total samples collected: 4573 Total samples tested: 3871 Total confirmed cases: 1235 Total Discharged cases: 810 Total active cases: 382 Total death: 43 New cases: 30 " He blamed the rise in the number of cases in the state on the refusal of the people to fully comply with the directives as earlier announced by the government and the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, NCDC. The Governor further cautioned against the resort to self-medication insisting that Covid-19 isn't a dead sentence. "We have also noticed that most affected people are resorting to self-medication instead of presenting themselves for appropriate medical attention and treatment at the State’s treatment centres. It makes no meaning to embark on or resort to self-medication as this approach has directedly been responsible for some of the covid-19 related deaths in our communities. Furthermore, in the face of increasing infections and systemic risk to public health and safety, most residents have continued to disregard the mitigating protocols with reckless abandon. All over the State, people are going about without wearing face masks or practicing the simple hygiene of regular washing of hands and applying alcohol-based sanitizers. Public and private transporters and business owners, including super-markets and related businesses, have refused to obey or enforce the established guidelines on social distancing, hand washing and wearing of face masks. Security reports also indicated that Churches in Eleme, Obio/Akpor, Oyigbo, and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas are refusing to limit social gathering to not more than 50 persons at a time. Burial ceremonies are also reportedly being conducted in clear breach of the 50 persons maximum attendance limit, such that a serving Permanent Secretary had the temerity to chase away officials of the State Ministry of Health who went to enforce the established guidelines on public burials at Oyigbo." Gov.Wike while calling on the people to take personal responsibility; to take the necessary precautions to prevent exposure and spread of COVID-19 in the communities, also threatened to arrest and prosecute persons who move around in public without wearing the facemask. He said: "We are closely monitoring compliance with the wearing of face masks in public places, including transport vehicles, and urge residents to strictly comply or risk arrest and prosecution. All supermarkets and related stores and businesses must continue to enforce social distancing and the compulsory wearing of face masks or risk being sealed off. A State Joint Task Force made up of security and civilian personnel has been set up to enforce the wearing of face masks in the State." He reminded citizens and residents of the state that "Bars, cinemas, viewing centres, restaurants and related businesses shall remain closed until further notice." Speaking on the calls for the reopening of markets and schools, Gov.Wike said: "We are appraising the prospect of opening our markets to public trading and would do so once we are satisfied that it is safe and proper with appropriate guidelines to enforce social distancing, hand washing, basic hygiene practices, and the wearing of face masks. We are taking necessary measures to decontaminate our public schools, protect our children and ensure the safe resumption of schools for terminal classes in line with the Federal Government’s Guidelines on a date to be announced by the Commissioner of Education." The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has denied ordering the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio. DSP Omo-Agege in a statement signed on Sunday by Yomi Odunuga, his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, insisted that a letter said to have emanated from the Clerk of the Senate, acting on his behalf and requesting the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Mr Ibrahim Magu to investigate the Minister did not come from him. Nigeria's Senate President, Dr.Bukola Saraki has revealed the only reason why he may not be contesting the 2019 Presidential election. Speaking through His Chief of Staff, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Saraki said if President Buhari decides to re-contest, then he (Saraki) will not contest. He added the reason is because the Senate president sees and respect President Buhari as a father. Baba-Ahmed said: "There is no way Senator Bukola Saraki will contest for president in 2019 as long as President Buhari will contest. This I know very well because I work with him and I should know that. "But if President Buhari says he will not re-contest the position, that is a different case. The Senate President will not contest against President Buhari because he sees and respected him as a father. "The same thing happened in 2011 and 2015 if you remember. Saraki declined to contest against him; instead, he joined others to work for the success of the President in the 2015 elections." Baba-Ahmed who stated this while speaking on a weekly Hausa Programme aired on DITV/Alheri Radio monitored in Kaduna on Saturday also said he isn't aware if President Buhari will contest or not in 2019. "I'm not President Buhari's spokesman but I see nothing wrong if he decides to contest," he said. Source: http://www.suanusblog.com/2017/11/i-will-contest-2019-presidential.html

Amidst calls for his return to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2019 presidential election, a former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has declared that he is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC. In a statement by His Media Aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku was quoted to have restated his stand while receiving members of the Concerned Citizens For Atiku, CCA on Friday. The group had during the meeting urged the chieftain of the APC to return to his former party, the PDP, insisting that he stands a better chance of actualizing his presidential ambition there. This follows a similar call by a group known as the South West chapter of the Nigeria Youth Coalition, NYC. The group had also admonished Atiku to quickly return to the PDP so as to position himself properly to clinch the presidential ticket of the party for the 2019 race. However, Ibe said while people are free to express themselves as enshrined in the country’s constitution, it is important to note that Atiku who is the Waziri of Adamawa is currently of the APC. According to him; “Well, groups are free, like individuals are free to express their positions, it’s a country of law and there is freedom of expression as enshrined in our constitution. “Having said that, I probably would also remind that his excellency belongs to a political party as we speak.” Source:http://www.suanusblog.com/2017/11/2019-atiku-shuns-calls-to-return-to-pdp.html?m=1

Apart from former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, there are lots of other Chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC that are much interested in taking over the seat of power from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Former governor of Kano state and Senator representing Kano central, Engr Musa Kwankwaso is one of such persons. Serious indications have emerged that Kwankwaso has started going round the country in preparations to re-contest presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 general elections. After visiting Delta State recently to set up His formidable presidential structure, Suanu's Blog has gathered that the Presidential hopeful has perfected plans to pay similar visit to Edo State this Thursday. A source close to the Senator hinted that Kwankwaso’s 2019 presidential ambition has “reached an unstoppable stage,” adding that for the past one month “he has been receiving at least ten groups daily within and outside the ruling party.” The source who was a prominent member of Kwankwaso’s campaign team in 2014, revealed further that the choice of South-south to kick-start his presidential campaign was part of plans to established strong structures comparing to that of the north “where he is a strong force.” “For now, it is kitchen campaign to quickly break established structures in the South. We know that we are enjoying massive support in the North but we need to break structures put in places by the likes of Asiwaju Tinubu and other forces in the South,” the source confirmed. Continued: “It is no more a hidden agenda that our Principal (Kwankwaso) must contest the 2019 presidential election, whether with APC or not. Nigerians are yearning for him. This man has been meeting with not less than ten political groups daily for the past one month and more are still begging to meet him.” Suanu's Blog recalls that Kwankwaso had pulled a surprise result during the 2014 Presidential Primary Election of the APC coming second behind now President Muhammadu Buhari. Sen.Kwankwaso is the grand patron of the socio-political group, Kwankwasiyya known for dressing in red cap on white dresses. The Group is said to have fully mobilised its members to give Sen.Kwankwaso an intimidating welcome at the Benin Airport this Thursday. Whether President Buhari would seek reelection or if Kwankwaso can defeat Him (Buhari) during the Presidential Primary Election of the APC ahead of the 2019 General Elections remains unknown. If Kwankwaso's interest is threatened on the platform of the APC, He may defect to pursue His Presidential aspiration on another Political platform. The emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the flagbearer of the newly formed Mega Party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the General Elections in 2015 was one that was built on greed and desperation for power at the centre. This movement was so hasty that no post-victory plans were set in place. This culminated into the obvious delays that characterized the initial months of the Buhari Government. Before the slim victory of General Buhari, some facts were glaring; PDP was performing abysmally Nigeria was bedeviled with so many challenges that were fast appearing insurmountable under the Jonathan administration. Jonathan appeared to have lacked the dogged political will to handle pressing issues during his days at the presidency. Nigerians were fed up with the slow pace of general development under Him (Jonathan) The North (Nigeria’s perceived Kings making zone) was obviously managing her grief due to the sudden loss of power at the centre as a result of Ex-President YarAdua’s sudden journey to the spirit world. All these necessitated the removal of the then ruling party and President. But of course, succeeding in such a task in Africa has never been an easy one. The power of incumbency, the command of wealth, influence of the electoral umpire and security agencies would normally work in favour of the President seeking re-election. The case of Nigeria before and during the 2015 polls was not an exception. The fact remains that the merging of some opposition parties into the APC would not have been enough to have sacked the incumbent President from the oil-rich region of Nigeria. The APC being aware of this settled on seeking a personality that has overwhelming followership, integrity and from the north. The north was strategically favoured because of its predominant religion and population. The need for a man without blemish ended up with General Muhammadu Buhari. This came after a weeping Buhari had shocked his die-hard supporters and followers that he was not going to contest for the presidency again after three failed efforts at the polls and at the Supreme Court. A key process in the emergence of a presidential candidate is the conduct of a primary election. Apart from the buying the presidential form, an aspirant also needs to hunt for party delegates to seek their support. All these requires huge sum of money who our retired Army General told us that he never had. Buhari even told us that he secured his presidential form with a bank loan. The truth concerning the emergence of Buhari as APC Presidential candidate was that some party Leaders and Governors devoted their material and financial resources to convince or order party delegates from their states to vote for Buhari. If not for this, a General Buhari would not have been able to win the presidential ticket due to his obvious inability to have possessed the requisite financial muscles to flex with the likes of Kwankwaso, Atiku and Okorocha. Even after his election, President Buhari has acted in several ways to show that He is not a POLITICIAN but a MERE LEADER. Doing well as the President of the most populous country in Africa demands more of a politician than mere status of a leader. One regrettable incident that has shown Buhari’s political weakness is His refusal to have directly influenced the emergence of the leadership of the National Assembly despite His party having majority seats in both chambers. A political mistake he is still paying regrettably for till now. Regardless of how you would rate the Buhari administration as an incumbent, he is entitled to seeking re-election. It is left for Nigerians to decide his fate. But before he meets Nigerians at the poll, Buhari has to again pick the presidential ticket of His party. And this is where the fears abound considering Buhari as not a politician. Thus far, so many things have changed. Some of the party leaders and Governors that compelled their state delegates to support Him for the 2015 race have been back-stabbed, prosecuted, persecuted or out-rightly sidelined. The so-called Presidential Cabals who also have their own greedy interests to protect may not be able to garner enough support to deliver President Buhari if majority of the state Governors form an alliance with Saraki, Kwankwaso or Atiku who appear to be front liners for the 2019 APC Presidential Ticket. It will perhaps be too humiliating for an incumbent President to be rejected by majority of his party delegates. No doubt, many supporters of President Buhari including members of his party have been deeply disappointed following major events that have characterized His administration so far. Buhari appears to be losing his key support grounds, hence the increased calls for his resignation even from some members of his party during his prolonged ill-health. Whether his health travails will end finally and give Nigerians a more strong and formidable Buhari who will possess the required strength and vigour to act as Nigeria’s President remains unknown. I, like other Nigerians expect President Buhari to be thankful to Allah if he sees Him through His tenure till 2019; after which he MUST seriously consider not re-contesting but go home to enjoy the rest of his days. Some Nigerians will still hold him dear and acknowledge his outstanding patriotism. Stagnating our growth and development as a country to salvage his personal greed to perpetuate in power will simply erode his remaining goodwill. Recently, a shocking revelation from the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan openly expressing her support for the Atiku 2019 Presidential Ambition simply means that like the Jonathan Era, “Boko Haram Elements Have Infiltrated Even The President’s Cabinet”. It is a clear indication that President Buhari is not in charge of His Government. Be it as it may be,we must not be quick to blame or crucify Alhassan. Rather we must appreciate her courage and sincerity because I believe they are more “Alhassans” in Buhari’s government waiting for the “right time” to clearly show where their loyalty lie. President Buhari should be more concerned about the implications of the “Alhassans” in his government because nobody can serve two masters at the same time. You must be working for the downfall of one to uplift the other. And I am sure, Buhari wouldn’t want others even those in his government to perfect his downfall. Going to war with the “Alhassans” won’t be in the best interest of Buhari and His party. Like others sacrificed their interests for him (Buhari) to succeed to become Nigeria’s President, it is expected that he makes similar sacrifice in the overall interest of his party. And the sure way to do this is to drop any interest in continuing in office in 2019. This is of course for very obvious reasons chief of which include his age and health. As insisting on continuation in 2019 will be too disastrous for the APC particularly and Nigeria generally. This stand in anyway does not imply a support or rejection for an Atiku Candidature. The desperation of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar must however be seriously scrutinized if it is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians or to buy us all as part of the unending list of his companies and wealth portfolio. A group, under the aegis of PDP National Volunteer Front, has called on the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to cancel the Anambra State primary election, alleging irregularities. The group warned that failure to conduct a more credible primary election and placate the aggrieved aspirants of the party, means losing the election from the onset. The National Marshal of the Front, Emmanuel Nwosu, at a press briefing in Awka yesterday, said: “The primary election was marred by irregularities that first emanated from a flawed ward congress. They failed to elect the constitutional three delegates per ward in over 90 per cent of the 326 wards of the state. “We are saddened by the process that led to that primary election. We are also worried that the aspirants on the party’s platform withdrew in droves in protest, and the ones that participated in the election also saw the flawed process and complained bitterly. “We want to state here as members of the party that their grievances are well founded, and we call on the national leadership to address this injustice and offer redress to their complaints. “On our own, we will engage the state caretaker committee to ensure that justice is done for everyone.” Source: http://www.suanusblog.com/2017/08/anambra-gubercancel-pdp-primary.html?m=1

Source: http://www.suanusblog.com/2017/08/senator-andrew-uchendu-receives.html?m=1 Following His victory from the Court of Appeal in Abuja, The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a certificate of return to the candidate of the All Progressives Candidate in the Rivers East Senatorial District in the 2015 general elections , Chief. Andrew Uchendu. The new certificate of return was handed over to Uchendu on Tuesday by the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the South -South , Mr . May Agbamuche -Mbu Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving the certificate , Chief Uchendu expressed deep appreciation to God and His Constituents for voting for Him and his party. While promising to contribute his quota to the development of the state, the former House of Representatives member thanked the judiciary for restoring His mandate that was stolen away desperately by Gov.Wike in collaboration with INEC. Reacting to Gov.Wike's comment that with his emergence as a senator , Rivers State had less than one representative in the Senate , Uchendu said the governor was the least exposed , the least travelled and the least intelligent of all the governors that had ruled the state. “ I have come to contribute my only little quota . A series of administrations have come and they made their individual contributions but the worst in mind, by my own personal evaluation , is that of the present governor who lacks the capacity to come up with vision that will impact meaningfully on the life of the people of the state. “ He is always on the war path . I have promised and vowed that I will extend my hand of fellowship to him . Possibly with my age I might be in a better position to guide him , it cannot be war , war , war and war all the time . Look at ( Governor Akinwunmi) Ambode of Lagos State , he has programmes for the young, the orphans , the elderly and the entire citizenry. “ Wike knows that it was my responsibility as the Chairman of Rotimi Amaechi Political Think Tank to tutor him for 12 good years. He was only a local government chairman . That platform raised him to be chief of staff, to be made a minister and I remain the Chairman of that think tank . “ If he says I am a nobody , then really he is the worst governor that Rivers State has ever had . He is the least exposed , he is the least travelled, he is intellectually incapacitated , and haven't got the requisite leadership capacity. ” He also dismissed the governor's claim that the APC connived with the INEC and the police to rig the election. Following the path of peace, Chief Uchendu expressed readiness to make peace with Wike in the interest of the people of the state, and broker peace between Him (Wike) and Amaechi if the governor would agree to the reconciliation . To show His sincerity, the Senator representing Wike's constituency also promised to pay him a courtesy visit to inform him of his readiness to work with Him. Suanu's Blog recalls that Gov.Wike while mourning the sacking of Senator George Sekibo by the Court of Appeal had in a Thanksgiving service reacted to the emergence of Chief Uchendu thus; "As far as I am concerned, we don't have a Senator in Rivers East.Uchendu lacks the capacity to represent me in the National Assembly".

Source: http://www.suanusblog.com/2017/08/court-orders-jonathan-most-powerful.html?m=1 A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday has ordered the final forfeiture of N7,646,700,000 belonging to Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was a former Petroluem Minister and a powerful member of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet from 2010 to May 2015. This forfeiture order follows series of others over corrupt enrichment, all of which Mrs.Madueke has consistently denied the allegations. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC had dragged the Ex-minister before the court over the N7.6 billion which it described as hidden in a bank. Suanu's Blog recalls that on August 9, 2017, vacation judge Justice Chuka Obiozor granted an order temporarily forfeiting the money to the Federal Government. Justice Obiozor’s order followed an ex parte application argued before him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The matter was however adjourned till today (Monday) for the bank and any other interested party to appear before him to show cause why the funds should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. The EFCC had told the judge that the N7.6 billion was part of a sum of $153,310,000, which Mrs. Alison-Madueke allegedly siphoned from the coffers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) sometime in 2014. By this order from the court, Sterling Bank which has being in custody of the illicit fund will deliver the said sum to the Federal Government.
