Happy Sunday to everyone in the house and thanks to those who have been answering various questions.

God Bless.

Well i started this journey last year with the help of my Sister In Law but was discouraged due to my low IELTS scores then L-6 S-6 R-5.5 W-5

Now i'm ready to start everything all over again and here is my profile.

Age: 24

Language scores: L8 S8 W7 R8

Qualifications: National Diploma

Years of experience: 2 years

POF : 1m but i have willed properties that i can sell to complete the amount stipulated for singles.

I will be starting my WES evaluation this week but i'm afraid that my Diploma degree may affect my eligibility or scores or the Diploma may not be accepted.

Gurus in the house, what do you think? should i continue with my application or move on to complete my BSC degree ( I just gained admission through direct entry into a Fed Uni here in Nigeria).

SAT is basically on SS1 to SS3 syllabus for the maths section and if you practice all those Algebra, Probability, Geometry, Mean, Median and Mode and so on am sure you will scale through..

Go and get Barron text book and it will help you alot..

@bold... I will advice you to go and check back online because March edition for SAT is not available for Nigeria or international applicants the last time i check but you can continue your preparation ahead for May edition

Collegeboard has a partnership with Khan Academy to provide world class FREE practice for everyone. The six practice tests on khanacademy/sat are the same with the ones on the sat.collegeboard.org and also the same in the official SAT study guide. But khan stimulates the actual exam by timing each section and the practice is tailored to improve your weak areas. They have thousand of official sat questions from collegeboard in their database. The website also enables you to track your skill progress and Review your weakness.
Goodluck in your practice.
I have registered for the khan academy SAT test and practicing with it right now. Thanks

Hello dear, The SAT is not difficult as you may assume. The SAT has been redesigned (REDESIGNED SAT) which started by March 2016. This new SAT has only two sections which are Evidence Based Reading and writing section, and Maths section. The negative scoring in which a quarter mark is deducted when answered wrongly has stoped. This new SAT is one raw point for each correct answer and no point removed from wrong answer. Though this new one has limited time, but you can ace it. The have stoped using obscure words in the reading part. The answer to the reading part lies in the long passages. You have to be very very fast in reading because you gona read 5 passages of about 700 words each and answer 52 questions all within 65mins. Speed and precision is the key. The writing part is just about sentence correction and standard English conventions, 4 passages to edit with 44 questions in 35 mins. The last section which is Maths section has two parts: No calculator part which is 20 questions(15 objectives and 5 grid in) for 25 mins. Then the calculator part which is 38 questions (30 objectives and 8 grid in) for 55mins. Then finally, the Essay is optional, but it's all about analysis of a given passage,50 mins if you wanna take it. I never got the New SAT book, I got all six practice tests from collegeboard website which is the same in the book, I printed them out, though it costed me a lot, about 2 packs of A4 paper. I practiced daily using the Khan Academy official practice for SAT. My first SAT was a score of 1160 over 1600, October 2016 test date, was low for me. My second nd final attempt was December 2016 with a score of 1320 over 1600. Was a high score in the 93 percentile. I encourage you, you can do it, it requires dedication, efforts and good time management, plus smartness. Good luck dear. I wish you the best.
Success!
wow. I've downloaded the six practice test on College board website and will be printing them out today. Is it the same as khan academy official practice for SAT?

This is really an encouragement. I hope i do well cos mathematics is my headache but i will give it my best.

Thanks and AMEN to your prayer.

From my little experience, the easier one between the two is dependent upon your personal strengths and weaknesses. Get prepared to solve some math on the SAT. So, if you're the type who doesn't enjoy math much, be prepared to work a little harder. Also, there is a SAT critical reading section which, from my personal studies, appears slightly tougher than the TOEFL reading section. Also, the registration costs for both exams differ.

I have also observed that most people who ace the SAT spend at least three months studying for it, with many of them attending expensive tutorials. But you can actually study for the TOEFL within two weeks, all by yourself. Just get relevant materials, including videos.

Now, talking about which is better; this is dependent upon the school you are applying to. Some schools require a very high score on the SAT for generous funding, while some schools just ask for the TOEFL. Some don't even ask for any, while some say the SAT is optional, but the TOEFL is compulsory. You need to critically study the application requirements of your school of choice, especially the financial aid requirements for international students.

I would have suggested that you take your time to study for both exams to be on the safest side; but since you can't afford to, here's my humble suggestion: get past questions/mock questions on both exams. In a day, you would have studied the structures and concepts enough to be able to ascertain where your strength lies.

Success!
Actually, i got an offer from duke university and they want me to write sat for funding/scholarship.
Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

Hello everyone. I need suggestions please

*I was unable to write the january SAT for some reasons but i want to write the next SAT for march 11 with the aim of having a high score for scholarship purpose but someone told me TOEFL is better. How true is this cos i felt TOEFL Is only meant for knowing an applicant's English ability/proficiency.

*Also, i need ideas from those who have written SAT on how to ace it (I've downloaded study materials and started studying vigorously. I'm also following the thread for TOEFL but there seems to be none for SAT on nairaland).

I can't write the 2 exams due to financial reasons hence my post. I would really appreciate everyone's suggestion.

Thanks.

Happiness is too mild an adjective to describe how I feel right now,

Do you know what this entails?

This means the level of success I would attain in this country is directly proportional to the level of hardwork I put in. Nothing can dampen my enthusiasm for life at this moment. The sky is not just my limit, it's my stepping stone. cool
Just saw this. Guy am so happy for you.

Thanks. have an idea of the hp laserjet 2055d price?
darexkey:
When buying printers, make sure you buy laserjet toner printers cos they are very durable and don't smear your printing when compared to inkjet printers. Also, don't buy multipurpose printer, get a seperate black and white printer, colour printer, scanner and photocopier.

for black and white printing, you can get hp laserjet 2055d or hp laserjet pro 401dn.

for coloured printing, buy hp laserjet CP 1215 or CP 1515.

There is no printer yet that doesn't make use of toner or ink except some xerox printers that make use of wax but very expensive.

The skills that can help land a job with good pay are Computer programming, any of the engineering fields (civil, electrical, etc), Medical Doctor, Nurse, etc. As an IT consultant (Application developer/programmer), I can certainly tell you that even a fresher with only 2 years out of college can command upwards of $60/hr, depending on experience. Everything is getting automated, so you can't go wrong with programming and any of the fields above. BTW, I have been doing this for a very long time.

Not saying the other fields are not ok, but these ones will land you a job quickly.

PS. The certifications, computer programming degree, etc. should be done after arriving. Anything computer related from Nigeria will not hold any weight here at all. We do serious coding/programming in the schools here.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.....

Over here unless you have a degree as a doctor, Pharmacists, etc or some professional degree, you're wasting your time. Skilled workers make a lot of money here. Once you get certified and obtain a red seal, you'll be laughing. School nowadays are a scam, just a business.
what skills thrive there for a lady?

Do you think learning here in Nigeria and getting certificate before coming over is okay or get there and learn?

How do you get certified over there?

Am awaiting your reply please. Thanks

Thanks for the write up.

I want to start a small scale printing business next month. Actually in a student environment. If I may ask, what type of printer would you recommend? I don't have money for photocopier yet so I can't buy that for now.
Also, is it possible to get a printer that doesn't require toner/ink or there are no printer of such? I asked cos of The stress with handling toner and the expenses. Thanks

Just one thing is still keeping me in this country. I hope God send an helper soon. I quite agree with you bro but kindly permit me to list some points. Maybe u left your 'home' (Nigeria) a long time ago, things have changed here too, truly I don't suffer abuses and deprivation because of my color here but I suffer abuses and deprivation because I am ofe mmanu.. Chukwudi still refers to my people as Afonjas, Bola still called Emeka a flat head on nairaland, Ayo still called Malam Audu a gambari... Everywhere is full of tribal wars. What more abuse and deprivation is worse than a nation divided against herself? number two, I don't care if I look different anywhere, variety is the spice of life as long as I didn't drop my self esteem at 'home'. Lest I forget to remind you, Competition is no longer the order of the day here, connection is. Even if u come first in the competition, who do you know. CONNECT OR DIE!!!!! Those r d only two options remaining at home baba... A jobless graduate still threatened to commit suicide in d job/ vacancies section dis week... On a final note, I think I will prefer a place where fighting is prohibited cos I dread SCARS!!!!! grin
