name a country that doesn't import anything?

The food crops our people export to the UK and other countries, ain't that importation for those countries too, or you think some of those crops can't be cultivated there?
Since you closed the borders cos of your farmers, have they produced enough?? What has become the price of this same rice since you closed the borders white man? Even government themselves have plans to import paddy rice to cushion the effect of high cost of the food item, to also make it affordable and available for the mills in Nigeria, white man did you grow ithuh
If you still depend on subsistence farmers for a 220 million population, then the country will always be on the threshold of starvation; subsistence farmers cannot deal with the impending shock of climate change, insecurity and fluctuating Naira to fund their Agriculture production.

Agriculture is a science and requires investment in IT and mechanisation; this is one of the reasons why Zimbabwe is now a major food producer in Southern Africa. If you think importing food will sustain 200 million, then be prepared for more food inflation because Nigeria does not print dollars.

The country's external debt is $50 billion, and its export earnings are less than $30 billion.

Stop waiting for praise singers. Tinubu is a terrible president, but that is why Nigeria died fighting for rice yet refused to protest against the hopeless government.

Why is a country blessed with abundant land and water but cannot grow food for its people? You don't need the government to grow food like yam and cassava in southern Nigeria.

Off point

This is a budget of continued hardship
How can you service debt with about 15Trn and still willing to pile another debt of 13Trn while wasting a whole 15Trn on recurrent expenditures that's can easily be slashed by 50% if the government is accountable

I truly empathize with us Nigerians
It's affecting even the rich, I bought turkey @150k in the market and you think there will be light at the end of the tunnel?
You borrowed the funds under 8 years of Buhari fuel subsidy and FX control. When Buhari's Finance minister collected high-interest Eurobond to fund government spending, you forgot that you had to pay it back.

I agree that the government must stop padding the budget with additional borrowing and must cut the deficit.

Kukutente23:
You can't but admire Atiku's meticulous approach to opposition and criticism.

I suspect even Tinubu does not have this kind of breakdown or analysis of the budget like the Turaki just gave us.

What he's saying in summary for those who might become jaded by the sheer technicality of his intervention is that the budget is fiscally imbalanced as debt takes the highest allocation as against the deceitful publicly claimed security.

He also calls attention to the VAT increase which will reduce demand and thus slow down growth. Most economies in the world are actually reducing VAT presently.

Lastly, he calls attention to the distorted nature of the deficit and recurrent expenditures which both show that the government is not cutting down on inefficiencies but is instead being exuberant about it.

I call on all zombies to respond in a fact based and logical manner instead of personal attacks, tantrums and tribal baiting they are known for.
What is there to admire?

The opposition to the government should be at the NASS (House of Rep and Senate). The opposition parties led by their presidential candidates should be instructing their elected representatives to oppose poor policies.

Instead, the opposition parties rubber stamp stupid policies as they have done recently; the people responsible for these weak political parties are Atiku, Kwankwaso and PO because they jump from one party to another instead of building a party based on ideology and values they see political parties as a vehicle for access to the presidency.

Why didn't Pat Utomi and Co-create their political party to contest the election and build a political movement based on their ideology, values, ethics and principles?

Lee Kuan Yew, prime minister of Singapore, was a strong man but built diplomatic relationships with his poorer but larger neighbours and turned those countries into a market for Singapore goods and services.

Awon people of Biafra Nation.

If Nigeria disintegrate, most countries will deny Biafra people their visa because of their drug trademark.
This is a Nigerian problem and not a tribal problem.

The get-rich culture by any means started with the corrupt politicians who became instant billionaires by gaming the system using government contracts, oil subsidies and FX arbitrage; now young Nigeria see their route to instant wealth through kidnapping and Islamic terrorists in the North, ritual killing in the SW and drug trafficking in the SE.

The lack of accountable and good government in Nigeria is a stain on the image of all Nigerians.

I apologise to the SA; hopefully, the criminal will spend a long time in prison in SA and Nigeria.

The Western world has very high hygienic standards; the UK food inspector would close down any store and fine or ban any vendor that has a market that looks like it should be in Lagos.

Nigeria has no standard. The country is just surviving. That's why numpty like Tinubu and Buhari can be president because the people are docile.

Nigeria will split in less than 10yrs from now. You better prepare yourselves for the inevitable. We are incompatible and shouldn't waste more time in the charade of a dystopian Nigeria.
Any core northerner who finds it difficult to stay in the core north after the disintegration should move to any country of his choice provided he won't cause problems for those countries. He's welcomed to move down South. In the same way, any person from the new countries in the South who feels uncomfortable should move to the core north as long as he's comfortable with the anticipated treatment he will receive there. No one should be imprisoned in a place he isn't comfortable with.

This is a positive development; calling out the problem is the first stage of solving the problem.

Religion in the SW seems to bring out the worst in Nigeria (the majority of those caught by the security services have been Muslim Alfas and Christian pastors. However, this simple fact is not an excuse to exonerate the Yoruba people from the menace of ritual killing because all those caught by the authorities were mostly sons and daughters of the Southwest soil.”)

All this charlatans in abroad always come online to talk rubbish, since life is fair to you enjoy it without forcing it on us.

The best Way is for all Nigerians to look for a way to make this country better, if all Nigerians follows this your mindset it means over 200M million Nigerians will have to leave this space and move to abroad. That can never happen because over 80 percent can't even afford to buy air ticket to Ghana.

Since life has been fair to you, all you've to do now is to pray for Nigeria.

Don't come online and tell us that we're stupid to still be in Nigeria.
Praying is what has turned Nigeria into a failed state. Start protesting and fighting against poor governance or continue living in the mess called Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: South East Loses N17.4trn Due To Absence Of 6th State – Chidoka by sulaak(m): 12:45pm On Dec 17, 2024
Nigeria has two many states in the first place. Each region should reduce the number of states to five each to align with the SE.

This is my solution that will reduce the state to a manageable level of 30

South West Oshun State should merge with Oyo State, or Ekiti State merge with Ondo.(5)

Middle-Belt. Kwara + Kogi or Pleatue + Nassarawa.(5)

North East state, Taraba +Adamawa or. Yobe +Bornu (5)

North West: Sokoto +Kebbi or. Jigawa +Kano (5)

SS : Bayesla +River or EDO +Delta or Calabar + Akwa Ibom (5)

The SE is perfect at five

kettykin:
2027 will really be a night of long knives.
The APC’s relentless tactics of coercing opposition politicians to abandon their party tickets and defect to the ruling party is nothing short of political scavenging. It’s a brazen assault on democracy, exposing their desperation to consolidate power by any means necessary. This isn’t about ideology or governance—it’s a shameless power grab, an insult to the electorate who voted for opposition candidates in good faith.

It’s even more damning that the APC, despite its failure to deliver on key promises, continues to rely on backdoor maneuvers to weaken opposition parties instead of winning hearts through performance. This strategy reeks of insecurity, and the North, long known for its political astuteness, surely sees through this charade. The people are watching, and no amount of defections or forced loyalty can erase the glaring incompetence and unfulfilled promises of this administration. If this is their plan for 2027, they may find themselves grasping at straws when the tables turn.
The problem is with INEC and the judiciary. Nigeria oppositionpolical parties are now aware that there will never be a free and fear election in Nigeria under APC as the INEC and the judiciary have been bought and paid for.

So BAT is what?
At least with Buhari the dollar never crossed 500, petrol was affordable.
Buhari spent $1.5 billion a month to defend the Naira. In 2019, the country ran out of income and depended on debt such as foreign exchange, $41 billion debt, and "Ways and Means" of printing Naira, finally mortgaging the crude oil export.

The fall in Naira reflects Nigeria's economy; we produce nothing and import everything!

Petrol was affordable because the government subsidised petrol with debt. Sooner or later, the debt had to be paid back. Nigeria's petrol is still the cheapest in the world; Nigeria is just too poor to purchase.
