You are very correct. Look at the Nigerian government and tell me if they are even aware that the country they govern is poor.
The job of the government should be to guide productive resources in the direction of sectors and investment they will create jobs and develop human resources but our are busy majoring on corruption and ambiguous standards.
One presidential candidate talked about these in the last election and Nigerians laughed at him and called him stingy.
I have not seen a single government department, industry, or project owned by the federal or state governments that works. Nigeria would be better off without a government.

SA has a coalition government of 10 political parties with 32 ministries, while Nigeria has 49 ministries and can't even operate refineries or shipping ports. I don't see any way out of this mess beyond street protest and revolt.

Sometimes we fail to realize that Nigerians are very poor and lately, more and more people have been thrown into poverty.

It's part of reason companies fold up and leave the economy in a haste. The businesses that service the poor are managing to stay afloat.
In south Africa for example, you will hear that they have over 2000 spars outlets, 1500 kfcs, 2000 domino pizza... Some provinces have over 50 outlets and they are flourishing. Here, we have less than 50 spar outlets etc in the entire country, some state have none while supposedly rich state like Lagos has less than 6. These are signs abject poverty and none performing economy.
When a country is poor, the focus is on productive industries and services.

Poor people want to work themselves out of poverty; hence, investment technology parks are more important than resort parks. I spent some time in Vietnam in the 1990s and noticed how private and government resources were dedicated to factories and farming and less investment in entertainment.

With leaders like this e go hard rock develop Nigeria...

Tinapa was meant to fail and we keep failing not because it's a bad project na it's a fantastic project

The issue is Nigerians don't have the "business" Population to make it profitable

3 years ago only 3.7milliom Nigerians spent 10 dollar plus per day... Now I'm sure it's below 2 million people

Going to tilapia would cost 50 dollars minimum... How many Nigerians have that to spare per capita

Calabar people would just go there to snap picture

Anyone who has done business in a mall knows the truth 70% of people just come to take pictures

Tinapa like ajokuta can't work the mistake has been made let it go
It can work, but not as a tourist park.

You are correct that Nigerians do not have the disposable income to support tourist resorts, but if Tinapa is transformed into a technology and business park to support software, biotechnology, and services, then Tinapa will be more profitable to Nigeria.

Tinapa is close to the Atlantic coast, and Calabar has a seaport and airport, hence the investment in a data centre and fast internet cable to support technological companies.

I have seen how Western companies have repurposed Olympic parks into housing and technical parks using little investment.

Our politicians only care for themselves.
The same can be said about Nigerian people. Why do we buy generators when there is no light, tankers when there is no water, private security when there is no police, and Okada when there is a transport system? If the so-called elected politicians are illegitimate, why are Nigerians not protesting on the street? If they protest against Tinubu, Buhari or GEJ, it will be considered a protest against their ethnic group. Nigeria's Labour Union are even worse, asking for better pay and a living wage in a country that has never functioned like a modern country. What is the use of a living wage when nothing works?
PoliticsRe: Electricity Supply Partly Restored In Nigeria Hours After National Grid Collapse by sulaak(m): 11:03pm On Jul 06, 2024
Remman:
The problem i have with most Nigerians is that they believe in the "national grid collapse" hoax. Nigeria exports electricity to some countries and when there's a fault on those lines they fake national grid collapse and divert our lines to feed those nations. I actually don't know the work of journalists of this Nigerian-generation. CNN would physically go to verify the grid that actually collapsed show it to Nigerians. It will also be impossible to fix a fallen grid in a few hours.
I think Nigerians should protest for better electricity and working refineries instead of minimum wages. Imagine if Nigeria, blessed with the 10th largest gas reserves and large hydroelectric potential, could easily generate 50,000 MW and deliver electricity and cheap hydrocarbons to its local industries, creating millions of jobs and competing for Nigerian labour.

mrvitalis:
You have spent 1 year in office and hasn't increased it by 100mw even

When people talk about electricity as an engineer ( mechanical) I wonder what is difficult about generation and transmission of electricity ooh I have always wandered

To produce electricity you need a magnet and coil of wire... Just move one relative to the other boom u have electricity

The whole nuclear, hydro, gas, steam, coal and the likes are just how to turn the magnet relative to wire coils

Transmission is just aluminum wires ( the most abundant metal on earth) from power plant to distribution centers and those are just big transforms

I still don't get why we don't produce and distribute enough electricity makes little or no sense sha
Nigeria has no business having electricity problems considering that the country has one of the largest gas and hydro reserves in the world.

Vietnam has 80597 MW , yet Tinubu is talking about increasing generation to 6000MW

By the end of 2022, the total number of power plants in operation was 360 (not including small hydropower plants) with a total installed capacity of 80597 MW (without imports).

VanuatuWycombe:
Nope. Aarti is relying non recycled steel. That’s what most steel companies do in Nigeria. No fresh iron ore to use since our mining companies are not functioning.

Why do you think Aboki scrap buyers are all over the places?
What do you mean by non-recycled steel? Aarti imports all its steel products from India and recast them at their factory. The Indians, in coalition with Nigerian politicians, have been systematically responsible for destroying Nigeria's steel ambition to support

Delta Steel produces recycled steel using the electric furnace system, which is what it was designed to do.

Ajaokuta was designed to be produced from iron ore, iron billet and falt/iron rod steel.

The three rolling mills were designed to consume the billet and produce various steel products.

The Indians bought Nigerian steel industries without investing a dime, using local bank loans from local banks. Then, they sat on their acquired investments while they imported steel from their parent companies at the expense of local production.

Nigeria can revamp the existing steel industry, but it will require a local champion like a Dangote or others committed to indigenous industrialisation. Nigeria has a steel capacity of 13 million tonnes but will require at least $5 billion investment.

That is their problem to deal with.

South Korea and Singapore don't have oil money, but they have a petrol chemical industry, The petrol dollar is overrated; its good to have, but greater nations have been able to develop without it. Nigeria breeds bad leaders because of compromise between ethnic groups and self-interest.

The number speaks for itself. A Yoruba nation would already have 5000 MW of installed electricity capacity, multiple universities, a petrol chemical industry, three modern ports, and two more under development, agro-processing industries in Cassava, Cocoa, and Palmoil, and a well-developed services sector. The literacy rate is well above 85% and they share a common language. If the option is between Nigeria and the Yoruba nation.

The Same can be said for the SW, SE and even NC , Nigeria must return to the regional setup or separate

Vice Presidency (2015–2023)

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and President Buhari

First Term (2015–2019)
Tenure

Acting President

President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a written declaration on 9 May 2017 to the president of the senate and house of representatives on his decision to embark on a medical trip; the letter was read that day at a plenary assembly of both the senate and the house of representatives. The acting presidency was conferred upon Vice president Osinbajo during President Buhari's medical leave.[21][22]

Second Term (2019–2023)

Tenure

On 29 May 2019, Professor Yemi Osinbajo took his oath of office to begin his second term at Eagle Square in the capital of Abuja.[27][28]

Following the federal government's decision to close the nation's land borders in October 2019, Osinbajo explained that the government did so to gain the attention of other nations to the importance of policing the borders. He claimed that China and other nations were smuggling in products, including agricultural ones, undermining the Nigerian economy and threatening Nigerian agriculture. By closing the borders, Osinbajo claimed that the government was helping protect the economy and Nigeria's producers and farmers.[29]

On 31 March 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Vice president Osinbajo to chair an economic sustainability committee. The aim of the committee is to develop measures to cushion the effect of the coronavirus and eventually reposition the Nigerian economy.[31][32]

Nigeria in 2024 is worse than Nigeria in 2017 when Osibanjo was acting present, the value of the Naira was stronger, and Buhari APC was blocked from bankrupting the country by the PDP-controlled Senate. Today, Nigeria owes $100 billion and exports less than 1.3 barrels per day of oil.

Osinbanjo's failure was being vice president of Buhari for 8 years , he is complicit in Nigeria current state.
