CrimeNigerian Teenager, Mide Madariola, Stabbed To Death In London by sunky97(op): 9:49pm On Nov 04, 2018
A teenager who died after being stabbed outside a tube station last Friday has been named as Malcolm Mide-Madariola, 17, from Peckham, south-east London, police said on Sunday.

The student was attacked at about 4.30pm on Balham Hill outside Clapham South station, London, and died in hospital.

The death followed that of Jay Hughes, 15, who was fatally stabbed at in a “premeditated attack” near a chicken shop in Randlesdown Road, Bellingham, south-east London, at about 5.20pm on Thursday.

Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, of the homicide and major crime command, said Mide-Madariola was stabbed a few minutes after an altercation between two groups of boys.

“We are confident that our investigation will lead us to the person or people responsible, but we do need to speak with more witnesses and I am appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”

Flowers were laid near the south-west London station for Malcolm.

A 17-year-old girl, who asked not to be named, described him as a hard-working boy, adding: “He was sweet and nice and he always used to message me if he knew I was sad.” Hughes’ family paid tribute to him, saying he was “very bright and brilliant at art.”

London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, said the two deaths were a terrible waste of young lives, as he offered condolences to the families. The Metropolitan police have not made any arrests in the cases as yet.

The fatalities came as debate continued over the effect of police budget cuts and how officers should focus their resources.

The Met police commissioner, Cressida Dick, said on Friday that “stretched” forces had to prioritise serious violence and drug gangs rather than non-criminal acts, such as misogyny.

Khan has previously blamed rising violence on the £700m cuts to the Met’s budget over seven years, which could be followed by further reductions.

On Friday, he announced the latest measure in a “public health approach” to tackling violence, with a review of the most serious offences since 2014 to discover the trends behind attacks.

TravelForging Documents For UK Visa Application Attracts 10-year Ban by sunky97(op): 8:18pm On Nov 04, 2018
The outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright, has cautioned Nigerians seeking visas to the UK to avoid presenting forged documents.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, Arkwright warned that anyone caught flouting the rule would be denied entry into the UK for at least 10 years.

“I know there is a feeling in Nigeria that we refuse visas more often than we accept them. That is not the case.

“We are not trying to keep Nigerians out; but it is important Nigerians stick to the rules when they are there in the same way that you in Nigeria would expect British people to obey the rules here.

“Sadly, there are a few Nigerians who provide forged documents. We know when a document is forged and that is an automatic 10-year ban.”

According to the envoy, Nigerians are welcome in the UK, as some Nigerians living there are making very serious contributions to the British economy and other sectors.

He said that the British High Commission received about 80, 000 visa applications annually, adding that about 70 per cent of those applications were successful.

He said that 90 per cent of visa applications were from students wanting to study in the UK.

Arkwright further advised those seeking visas to apply “in good time’’ and also ensure they have the required documents ready.

He stressed that it was important for an applicant to have sufficient funds in their bank accounts which should have been in the account for a minimum of 28 days.

The British High Commissioner noted that the visa application was an online process and the High Commission was “working hard to streamline the process’’.

CareerNigerian Twins Now Worth Over N47billion After Inventing Their Own Cryptocurency by sunky97(op): 4:55pm On Nov 01, 2018
Sam and Steve Nico Williams, 38, launched the cryptocurrency Populous (PPT) which is the 52nd most valuable cryptocurrency token in the world. Their other investments include a stake in the Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in London Bridge, and a London estate agency chain.

Pictured is Steve Williams (left) and brother Sam. Steve and Sam, who are identical twins quit running with inner city gang members and have become multi-millionaires worth more than ??41 million after the cryptocurrency they started became a global hit.

The twins with rapper 50 Cent (Picture: Cavendish) They rub shoulders with 50 Cent and former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and say their ‘hard work has paid off’.

The brothers, from Brockley, both attended Crofton Comprehensive in Lewisham, now renamed Prendergast Ladywell School, where 22% of pupils get free school meals and exam passes are well below the national average.

Their mother, a chef, and their father, an accountant, moved to the UK from Nigeria and worked long hours to provide for their sons. But Steve says he fell into the wrong crowd for a while, and 12 years ago was convicted of obtaining money by deception.

Steve said: ‘It was a major wake-up call and I had plenty of time to think about what I was going to do with my life. I made a big mistake and I paid for it. ‘I knew I had to turn my life around and work hard to achieve a good life for me and my family. I also want to give back by helping youths on the streets and those involved in street crime and I hope to inspire and create positive opportunities for them.’

Steve, described as ‘the brains’ behind Populous, is a commercial data expert and studied a GNVQ in Advanced Business at Crofton Comprehensive School in Lewisham. Sam excelled at computer programming at the same school’s sixth form. After leaving school, the brothers started various businesses such as Tramp, a lifestyle and concierge magazine, and researched financial markets and data, before they decided to move into cryptocurrency.

They worked solidly for four years to build the blockchain code for their tokens on their mum’s kitchen table in Brockley and were shocked by the huge success when Steve put the Populous (PPT) token on the market in June 2017. They originally thought it might raise a few thousand pounds, but 24 hours later they had assets worth £1.85 million in Ethereum digital currency. The twins with boxer Floyd Mayweather (Picture: Cavendish) Sam said: ‘The success Populous has exceeded all expectations – we thought it would do well but this has been phenomenal. ‘We had been involved on the fringes of gangs as teenagers when we were growing up in South London – but it’s fair to say that our lifestyles have changed completely in the past year.’ The brothers have released 37 million PPT tokens to have funds to develop the coin further and retained 16 million PPT tokens which are currently trading at $3.42 which makes their current net worth £41.76 million, according to the CoinMarketCap table of the world’s leading cryptocurrencies.

Populous is an invoice discounting platform that helps small and medium-sized businesses with cash flow problems to raise finance against invoices from the crypto community. The value of cryptocurrencies changes daily, but all of Populous’ early investors have made a fortune. At the peak of the crypto market back in March 2018, the brothers were worth up to £1 billion when the coin peaked at $68.91 but there has been a steep market change downwards since then.

Even now, with the market at its lowest ebb, they are still sitting on a fortune worth tens of millions. The Williams brothers’ business operations are located in Mayfair’s exclusive Berkeley Square. They also own a stake in Tom Sellers’ critically acclaimed Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in London – famous for its 10-course set menu.

Speculation in cryptocurrencies has shot up in the past 18 months and the biggest and best known currency, Bitcoin, reached a value of $20,000 earlier this year, though it has since slumped back to just over $6,400. Major banks are now getting involved in trading cryptocurrencies and Goldman Sachs launched a Crypto trading desk in May this year to capitalise on the huge growth of this market.

PoliticsTrump Wants To Order End To Birthright Citizenship by sunky97(op): 1:48pm On Oct 30, 2018
President Donald Trump said he’s considering an executive order removing the right to citizenship for babies born in the U.S. to parents who aren’t citizens.

Trump said in an interview with “Axios on HBO” taped Monday that he recently learned he could execute the change via executive order.

“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump said. “You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order.”

He said the benefits awarded to babies born as birthright Americans are “ridiculous,” and the system “has to end.”

Birthright citizenship is enshrined in the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, so an executive order challenging it would attract a legal battle.

Some view a change like Trump outlined as unconstitutional. Others, including John Eastman, a constitutional scholar who is director of Chapman University’s Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence, told Axios that the amendment has actually been misinterpreted for 40 years. Originally, he said, it was only intended to apply to the babies of green card holders or citizens.

Trump has long supported ending birthright citizenship, recommending in 2015 on the campaign trail that the country “start a process” to scrap it.

“I don’t think they have American citizenship and if you speak to some very, very good lawyers — and I know some will disagree — but many of them agree with me and you’re going to find they do not have American citizenship. Our country is going to hell,” Trump said then in an interview with CNN.

The president has lasered in on immigration ahead of next week’s midterm elections, stoking fear about the caravan of migrants heading toward the U.S.-Mexico border from Central America. He has falsely claimed the caravan is stocked with criminals, gang members and Middle Eastern terrorists, and has threatened to cut off aid to Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, the countries where most of the migrants hail from.

He deployed 5,200 active-duty troops to the border on Monday in what officials of his administration described as a necessary national security measure.

HealthWhy Chewing Your Food Properly Can Transform Your Health by sunky97(op): 6:58pm On Oct 29, 2018
Food-chewing can bring out the lazy teenager in all of us.

If you’re anything like I used to be, you chew just enough to be able to swallow and don’t think much more about it!

Well, I’m here to tell you that you might want to start thinking more about how you chew your food— most importantly, how much. Chances are you’re not chewing your food nearly as much as optimal digestion and health requires.

It may not seem terribly important at first glance, but how you chew your food has the potential to radically change your health for the better!

How, you ask?

Let’s take a closer look.

Illustration of swallowing process as part of digestion

PHOTO: ALILA MEDICAL MEDIA/SHUTTERSTOCK.COM
Why Change How I Chew?
Chewing Kicks Off Digestion

The mechanical act of chewing, aka “mastication,” not only starts the digestive process, it’s a vital part of it as well.

Chewing breaks down food into smaller particles, making it much easier to swallow (which your esophagus thanks you for!) and increasing its surface area.

This means greater exposure to the digestive chemicals in saliva and the rest of the digestive tract, making it much easier to digest and absorb nutrients from.

Chewing Increases Food Exposure to Saliva

Chewing food also exposes it to your saliva, which is critical. Saliva both lubricates your food and contains enzymes that begin the digestive process of carbohydrates, sugars, and fats.

Coating your food with saliva further benefits digestion by relaxing the pylorus, the muscle connecting your stomach and small intestine. Ample saliva enables food to easily pass into your small intestine.

Illustration showing man pointing at the brain and at the gut with his hands

PHOTO: CHOMBOSAN/SHUTTERSTOCK.COM
Chewing Triggers the Rest of the Digestive Process

Chewing is important because it signals the rest of your body to prepare for digestion.

The physical act of chewing signals the brain to send information to the GI tract to optimize digestion, tells the stomach to produce hydrochloric acid to help digest proteins, and signals the pancreas to be ready to secrete digestive enzymes into the small intestine.

Studies also show that chewing is part of the “cephalic phase” of digestion, during which you’re seeing, tasting, and smelling your food. A longer cephalic phase can lead to a greater release of messaging molecules essential to digestion, such as cholecystokinin, somatostatin, and neurotensin.

Your Gut Gets Stressed and Inflamed If You Don’t

Not chewing your food enough can cause improper digestion in the stomach, which can in turn lead to undigested food entering the small intestine. Undigested food in the intestines becomes an easy meal for bacteria and can promote digestive issues like gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, intestinal pain, and cramping.

It can also lead to a higher risk of more serious digestive issues such as bacterial overgrowth, food allergies and sensitivities, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and leaky gut.

Your Teeth Benefit

Chewing is also a good workout for your teeth, keeping them strong and healthy. The saliva created from chewing also helps wash away food particles, keeping your teeth clean!

How Do I Chew, Then?
For starters? A lot more!

Some people say you should chew a certain number of times for each bite, say 20, 50, or even 100 times. Non-conformist rebel that I am, I say a hard number is not the way to go.

After all, different foods require different amounts of chewing. Instead of sticking to a specific number, I’d suggest you chew each bite until it’s liquefied and you can’t tell what you’re eating by texture alone. For example, if you’re eating broccoli and chicken, keep chewing until you can’t tell which bits are broccoli stems, broccoli florets, or chicken.

This has served me as a helpful rule of thumb for determining how long I should chew before swallowing.

Chewing until your food is liquefied will ensure that your entire digestive process runs smoothly. Your food will be thoroughly broken down, coated in saliva, and easy to swallow, and your body will be well-prepared for digestion. And, of course, your teeth will get a great workout!

If you’re anything like me, you could probably also benefit by taking smaller bites (which are easier to chew), chewing slower, and making sure to finish and swallow one bite before taking another.

Chewing more slowly can help you lose weight and feel better, too. Chewing slowly has been shown to help with portion control and weight loss by giving your body the time it needs (usually 20 minutes or so) to alert your brain that you’re full.

Chewing more slowly also gives you the opportunity to actually taste and enjoy your food!

In fact, slowing down your eating is often given as a beginner’s exercise for learning mindfulness. Give it a try! You’d be surprised how easily you can access deep joy and gratitude just from slowing down and savoring each bite.

Summary
Chewing may seem like an insignificant task, but it’s vitally important to your health.

Chewing is something you do every day, multiple times a day— why not put in a little extra effort to make sure you’re doing it right.

Education26 Tips To Help You Survive Your First Year On Campus by sunky97(op): 6:19am On Oct 22, 2018
The first few weeks on campus are extremely critical for all new students. It is during this time that you make critical decisions that will have an effect on the rest of your life. Some of these 25 tips are critical during your first weeks, while the others are meant for longer-term guidance and survival.

Whatever you do, be sure to be yourself and try to enjoy your college experience as much as possible. Expect to feel some stress and homesickness, but don’t let these issues wear you down.

Tips to Help You Survive and Thrive in Your Freshman Year:

1. Go to all orientations.
Do you really need to go on yet another campus tour? Yes. The faster you learn your way around campus — and around all the red tape — the more at ease you’ll feel, and the better prepared you’ll be when issues arise.

2. Get to know your roommate and others in your residence hall.
The people you live with, most of whom are going through similar experiences and emotions, are your main safety net — not only this year, but for all your years. You may change roommates after the first semester or you may stay roommates for all four years — just take the time to get to know your fellow first-year students.

3. Get organized.
In high school, the teachers tended to lead you through all of your homework and due dates. In college, the professors post the assignments — often for the entire semester — and expect you to be prepared. Buy an organizer, use an app, or get a big wall calendar — whatever it takes for you to know when assignments are due.

4. Find the ideal place for you to study.
It may be your dorm room or a cozy corner of the library, but find a place that works best for you to get your work done — while avoiding as many distractions as possible.

5. Go to class.
Obvious, right? Maybe, but sleeping in and skipping that 8 am class will be tempting at times. Avoid the temptation. Besides learning the material by attending classes, you’ll also receive vital information from the professors about what to expect on tests, changes in due dates, etc.

6. Become an expert on course requirements and due dates.
Professors spend hours and hours preparing course syllabi and calendars so that you will know exactly what is expected of you — and when. One of the lamest excuses a student can give a professor: “I didn’t know it was due today.”

7.Meet with your professors.
Speaking as a professor, I can assure you there are only upsides to getting to know your professors, especially if later in the semester you run into some snags. Professors schedule office hours for the sole purpose of meeting with students — take advantage of that time.

8.Get to know your academic adviser.
This is the person who will help you with course conflicts, adding or dropping courses, scheduling of classes for future semesters, deciding on majors and minors. This person is a key resource for you — and should be the person you turn to with any academic issues or conflicts. And don’t be afraid of requesting another adviser if you don’t click with the one first assigned to you.

9.Seek a balance.
College life is a mixture of social and academic happenings. Don’t tip the balance too far in either direction. One of my favorite former students always used to say her motto was to “study hard so she could play hard.”

10.Get involved on campus.
A big problem for a lot of new students is a combination of homesickness and a feeling of not quite belonging. A solution? Consider joining a select group (and be careful not to go overboard) — student organizations, clubs, sororities or fraternities, or sports teams. You’ll make new friends, learn new skills, and feel more connected to your school.

11. Strive for good grades.
Another obvious one here, right? Remember the words of the opening paragraph; while good grades could have come naturally to you in high school, you will have to earn them in college — and that means setting some goals for yourself and then making sure you work as hard as you can to achieve them.

12. Take advantage of the study resources on campus.
Just about all colleges have learning labs and tutors available. If you’re having some troubles, these resources are another tool available to you. Another idea: form study groups.

13. Make time for you.
Be sure you set aside some time for activities that help you relax and take the stress out of your day or week. Whether it’s yoga, watching your favorite television shows, jogging, or writing in a journal, be good to yourself. And give your brain a break.

14. Don’t feel pressured to make a hasty decision about a career or a major.
It doesn’t matter if it seems as though everyone else seems to know what they’re doing with their lives — believe me, they don’t — college is the time for you to really discover who you are, what you enjoy doing, what you’re good at, and what you want to be. It’s not a race; take your time and enjoy exploring your options.

15. Take responsibility for yourself and your actions.
Don’t look to place the blame on others for your mistakes; own up to them and move on. Being an adult means taking responsibility for everything that happens to you.

16. Make connections with students in your classes.
One of my best students said his technique in the first week of classes was to meet at least one new person in each of his classes. It expanded his network of friends — and was a crucial resource at times when he had to miss a class.

17. Find the Career Services office.
Regardless of whether you are entering college as undeclared or have your entire future mapped out, seek out the wonderful professionals in your college’s career services office and get started on planning, preparing, and acting on your future.

18. Don’t procrastinate; prioritize your life.
It may have been easy in high school to wait until the last minute to complete an assignment and still get a good grade, but that kind of stuff will not work for you in college. Give yourself deadlines — and stick to them.

19. Stay healthy/eat right.
A lot of problems first-year students face can be traced back to an illness that kept them away from classes for an extended period of time that led to a downward spiraling effect. Get enough sleep, take your vitamins, and eat right. If you haven’t heard the jokes about college food, you soon will. And without mom or dad there to serve you a balanced meal, you may be tempted to go for those extra fries or cookies. Stay healthy and avoid the dreaded extra “Freshman 15” pounds by sticking to a balanced diet.

PoliticsDon’t Believe Those Statements Politicians Attribute To Me, Okonjo-iweala Warns by sunky97(op): 8:24pm On Oct 21, 2018
Former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, says politicians are using her name for political capital.

In a statement issued by her media adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, in Abuja on Sunday, the former minister said the use of her name to give credence to particular viewpoints had persisted in spite of warnings in the past.

Nwabuikwu said, “In spite of several rebuttals and clarifications that we have issued over the past months, some groups and individuals are still misusing the name of former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to further partisan political objectives.

“We would like to alert Nigerians that this unfortunate practice has increased significantly in this political season.

“This misuse of the minister’s name comes in many forms. There are fake newspaper articles published under her name. Fake quotations canvassing certain views which are falsely attributed to her. Even fake audios in which someone pretends to be the former finance minister have been going round. Most of these are typically disseminated on WhatsApp and other forms of social media.”

He added, “In one recent example, a video of the minister was cleverly edited, leaving out crucial information and context to give a totally false impression.

“These shenanigans are designed to give the impression that she supports one particular political interest or position or the other.

“We urge Nigerians to ignore these mischievous antics by political peddlers of fiction.”

Nwabuikwu added that Okonjo-Iweala was capable of speaking for herself if and when she wants to and does not need the help of anyone to do that.

FoodThis Woman Has Been Drinking Only Pepsi Since 1954 by sunky97(op):
A great-gran has declared she wouldn’t drink water even if she were dying… she’d stick to her favourite Pepsi like she has done for 64 years.Jackie Page, 77, has had nothing else to drink but four cans of the fizzy pop a day since her first taste aged 13 in 1954.
And she insists she has always been slim, fit and healthy despite consuming the equivalent of three million sugar cubes.

“I don’t call it an addiction. It’s just something I like and I can’t help it if I don’t like anything else,” says the retired housekeeper and mum of four.

“Some people might think it’s weird and that nowadays you shouldn’t drink Pepsi. But I don’t care and I won’t settle for anything else. I wouldn’t drink water – no way. Not even if I was dying. And I won’t drink tea or coffee.”

Jackie reckons her love of the canned fizz – she won’t drink it from a bottle – hasn’t had any affect on her health over the years.

“I have always been really, really slim until about five years ago – but I think that’s because I am not as active as I was,” she says.

“Right up until I was 60 I was still doing line dancing and I was pretty fit, but I can’t get out to do that now. They say Pepsi is bad for your teeth – but I am a wartime baby and there’s not many of us without rotten teeth so I wouldn’t know.”

a man sitting in a tree© Credits: Kennedy NewsThe craving that has led her to down more than 93,000 cans at a cost £65,800 began as a teenager. Up to then her mother had a nightmare getting her to drink anything.

“I didn’t like milk or water. My mum used to say ‘you have to drink something’. I know she used to give me lemonade or cherryade,” says Jackie, now a carer.

Ditch the Diet Coke! Artificial sweeteners in the popular drink are TOXIC to gut bacteria, study warns.

“I wouldn’t drink to enjoy it. Until I tasted Pepsi, drinking was just something I put up with.”

She reveals the only interruption to her Pepsi passion came when she was in hospital giving birth to her four children in the Sixties – because it was banned from the maternity ward. “They wouldn’t let me have it in with me so I had to go without,” says Jackie.

“But I’ve been to hospital since for some major operations and I was allowed to have it there.

“Much to their disgust, the staff even allowed me to keep my Pepsi in the kitchen fridge because I wouldn’t drink anything else. My kids used to come up to visit me in hospital with supplies of it so that I stayed hydrated.”

Now even her 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren are under strict instructions not to drink her stash when they visit her at her home in Carshalton, Surrey.

a person standing posing for the camera© Credits: Kennedy NewsJackie – who once had a dog called Pepsi and admits to hating rival brand Coca-Cola – says: “I have a cold one as soon as I wake up each day straight from the fridge.

“I even have it when we’re eating out as I don’t like alcohol either. If the restaurant doesn’t have it I just pull a can from my bag. Sometimes they get a bit funny about it. But I just know what I like – and that’s Pepsi.”

FamilyUnrealistic Expectations That Can Cause Failure In Marriage/relationship by sunky97(op): 1:15pm On Oct 16, 2018
There’s nothing wrong with having goals for your marriage, but your goals must be realistic.

Unrealistic expectations “set up couples to fail,” said Clinton Power, a clinical relationship counsellor. “When you expect that your relationship is meant to be a certain way, and that expectation doesn’t happen, this can create feelings of anxiety, sadness, and despair.” It can spark resentment, which can ruin relationships.

Below are some of unrealistic expectations—and the truths behind each one.

1.Happy relationships will always remain the same:

We assume that the person we married will remain exactly as they are, and thereby so will our relationship. This expectation might even be subconscious, but it rises to the surface in the form of surprise: Your spouse starts exploring a new career path or passion or moving away from something they used to love (and you still do), and you’re taken aback.

Maybe you even think, this isn’t the person I married. And maybe they’re not.

“People grow and change over time, and this means that the relationship changes,” Power said.

2.Partners are responsible for each other’s happiness:

We tend to have expectations about what we’ll “get” from our partners, Ferrari said. And when our partner doesn’t give us what we think we should be getting, resentment emerges, and starts settling in. (“Over time, resentment can evolve into contempt, which is coined ‘the sulfuric acid of love’ because it will erode a marriage.”)

For instance, some expect their partner to earn enough money to give them anything they want. “That places pressure on your partner to make you happy about something that you could be aspiring to yourself.”

3.He/she would change after we got married:

Marrying someone with the expectation they will become a different person after marriage is unreasonable and unfair. Marriage is not a magic change agent that transforms a person. Before you are married, your job is to be sure the person you want to marry is someone you can trust. After marriage, your job is to work to understand and love the person you married.

4. Good marriages never struggle, they are made in heaven:

Actually, most marriages will hit a “wall.” Sometimes a couple is surprised by a season of difficulty in their marriage. This faulty expectation leads them to assume then that their marriage is already as good as gone. If, when you encounter such a season, you recognize that every difficulty can be worked through with the grace of God, biblical truth (perhaps including wise counsel), and a determination to strengthen your relationship, you’ll get through it—and be stronger for it.

When you hear yourself say, “But I just thought…” that’s a clue that you’re dealing with unmet expectations.

Our flesh tells us that the only way our unfulfilled expectations can be overcome is if our spouse will change and turn those expectations into fulfilled desires. Scripture tells us there is another way.

The journey to happiness in marriage is not one of insisting your spouse change. It is in learning to change your thoughts by letting the mind of Christ become yours.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.—Philippians 2:4–8

Do you want to transform your marriage? Leave selfish expectations at the cross, and pick up the only Christlike expectation—the expectation to serve.

SportsHow Kobe Bryant Turned A $6M Investment Into $200M, In 4 Years by sunky97(op): 1:54pm On Oct 15, 2018
Tweet
Legendary basketball star and entrepreneur Kobe Bryant has made more than 30 times his investment in less than four-and-a-half years. The Black Mamba strikes again! This time, in business.

Less than four-and-a-half years ago, Bryant invested $6 million in a sports drink, BodyArmor. On Tuesday, Coca-Cola purchased a minority stake in the drink. Based on an assessment of that deal, Bryant’s stake is now worth approximately $200 million.

That is another win for Kobe this year. His first win was an Oscar for his short animated film “Dear Basketball.”

Kobe retired in 2016 with a record $680 million in career earnings, according to Frobes‘ Kurt Badenhausen.

Bryant is currently the fourth largest investor in the brand that markets itself as a healthier competitor to Gatorade — he only sits behind the brand’s co-founder Mike Repole, Keurig Dr Pepper and Coca-Cola. When he invested in BodyArmor in March 2014, the brand had just come off a year of $10 million in sales. In 2018, BodyArmor is projected to top $400 million.

As part of their endorsement deals, many athletes had equity stakes in BodyArmor. According to ESPN, many as a dozen superstar athletes could also have stakes in BodyArmor worth more than $1 million, including James Harden, Dustin Johnson and Andrew Luck.

BusinessFG Slashes Business Registration From N10,000 To N5,000 For 90 Days by sunky97(op): 5:55am On Oct 04, 2018
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that for the next 90 days – October 1 to December 31 – registration of businesses which was N10,000 will be N5,000.

Osinbajo made the development known at the 19th edition of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinics in Enugu.

“It was observed during some of the earlier editions of the MSMEs Clinics that a lot of MSMEs were finding it difficult to register their businesses as a result of cost,” Osinbajo said, according to a statemen by his media aide, Laolu Akande.

“The practice since we began the MSMEs clinics is that most agencies offer price reductions, especially for registration, and all other pre-investment approvals, during the Clinics.

“So, I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government, through the Corporate Affairs Commission, has approved a special window of 90 days from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31 to register businesses at a considerably reduced rate of N5000 only, down from as much as N10,000 previously.

“This will afford more MSMEs an opportunity to formalise their businesses.”

The Vice President also added that business owners will share some facilities with some Federal Government businesses such as SON, NAFDAC, and some other private sectors, in order for them to be fully equipped in business.

“The purpose of these shared facilities is to have a fully-equipped place with machinery and equipment required for various trades and businesses. MSMEs can then do their businesses at those locations at a reasonable cost,

“This way, MSMEs are spared the financial burden of having to buy their own equipment in order to be able to do business.

“Where possible, these shared facilities would have been pre-certified by relevant agencies, removing the need for MSMEs to pursue these certifications by themselves,” he said.

FamilyHow To Create Cell Phone Rules For Your Kids Or Teenagers by sunky97(op): 7:01pm On Sep 30, 2018
First and foremost, never forget that your child is a sponge, absorbing everything you do and say. And that is especially true when it comes to cell phone etiquette and behavior. If one day you don’t want your teen driver to text or talk on the phone while driving, even if it seems like an eternity away, then you yourself should not do it today. Enough said.
Second, put your cell phone policy in place the very first day you allow your children to have a phone. The policy should come across to them as a “this is how it is done in our house” type of thing. If you wait until there is a problem and react, then your cell phone rules come across as a punishment. The difference may seem subtle, but trust me, when kids are involved, it is worse enforcing a punishment than enforcing the rules.
All phones should stay out of the bedroom. Find a common area to plug all electronics in at the end of the night.
All phones should stay out of the bedroom. Find a common area to plug all electronics in at the end of the night.
Rule #1: No Cell Phones in the Bedroom at Night
Why This Rule Is Important
Kids need a lot of sleep and trust me when I say that if they are allowed to have a cell phone in their room at night, they will be quietly texting friends for hours on end! The way they look in the morning is usually a dead giveaway if this has been going on the night before.
Keep in mind that not every one of your child’s cell phone contacts is really a friend or someone you want texting your kid at night, let alone during the day. Texting frees them up to “say” things that they would not normally say out loud, so just beware.
Research published online by the Journal of Youth Studies says that children who logged onto their cell phones every night were about three times more likely to report feeling “constantly tired” at school compared to their peers. Not surprising!
The Best Way to Carry out This Rule
Everyone in the house should put their cell phone in one location to charge overnight, and that means parents too. You can get one of those boxes for charging multiple electronics at the same time and put it in the kitchen or your bedroom.
By a certain time of your choosing, cell phone usage needs to be shut down for the night. Simply put, lead by example.
Possible Reaction(s) to This Rule
They might tell you that their friends can have their cell phones at night. And you say that nighttime is for sleep, and you are happy to let them have it during the day, but at night everyone needs to charge their phone and get a good night’s sleep.
Your kids might also say they need the cell phone alarm to wake up in the morning. That’s purely a desperation move. Get them a cheap alarm clock—problem solved.
Your child should not be taking their phone to school unless they need it for after school activities.
Your child should not be taking their phone to school unless they need it for after school activities.
Rule #2: No Cell Phones in School
Why This Rule Is Important
Many schools have a cell phone policy in place (usually it has to be off and out of sight), but this doesn’t stop a lot of kids.
Not only is cell phone use in school a distraction to learning, but they are used for cheating, bullying, and spreading rumors at warp speed.
Kids can easily silence their phones and text without looking, all the while having their phone concealed in a hoodie or backpack pocket. Crazy, I know.
The Best Way to Carry out This Rule
To ensure that their cell phones are not at school, the phones need to remain in a visible location at home as everyone goes off to school. That is why I think all phones should reside in the kitchen or a central location for their overnight charging.
Some of you might even want to ban cell phone use in the morning before school if your child is prone to running late and is easily distracted.
Possible Reaction(s) to This Rule
You will probably hear the usual stuff as they beg and plead to bring it with them, how all of their friends have their cell phones at school.
You just remind them of the school cell phone policy and how we are going to follow the school rules.
The only exception to this would be if they are involved in an after-school activity or sport and need to contact you. Even then, the phone needs to be off during the day, and you can monitor the number of texts during the day to ensure that they have not abused this privilege.
Cell Phones in School
For older kids, you may decide that cell phone use is allowed during the car ride but has to remain in the car during the family activity.

Rule #3: No Cell Phones on Family Days, Family Meals, or Other Important Family Times

BusinessWho Is Alibaba’s New Chairman, Daniel Zhang? by sunky97(op): 1:11pm On Sep 18, 2018
On the occasion of his 54th birthday (September 10), Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma announced his retirement as chairman of the company.

In a letter sent to customers, employees, and shareholders, Ma explained that in exactly one year, on September 10, 2019—which is also Alibaba’s 20th anniversary—Alibaba Group CEO Daniel Zhang will replace him as chairman of the board. Ma will remain on the board of directors until the company’s annual shareholders meeting in 2020.

So who is Zhang, Ma’s replacement?

Zhang has served as CEO of Alibaba since 2015 and worked at the Alibaba Group more broadly for 11 years. Ma expressed confidence in his CEO, writing that “the company has run smoothly for five years on the back of these institutional ingredients,” and highlighting that China’s business news media named him the top CEO of 2018.

Zhang has an impressive track record. He is the mastermind behind the biggest sales bonanza on the planet – Singles’ Day, held annually on November 11, or 11.11 (four ones to represent four single people). Launched in 2009, years before Amazon invented its Prime Day, Singles’ Day is now the world’s largest retail event, topping $25 billion in sales for Alibaba alone, which makes it four times the size of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales combined – and that’s before Alibaba’s competitors get in on the action. For Alibaba, some 140,000 brands took part in the event, offering their products on Taobao and Tmall, the company’s business-to-consumer platform, also created by Zhang.

He’s more pragmatic and more reserved than Ma, but then most of China’s (and the world’s) business elites are more reserved than Ma, who has a rather unique leadership style. “Where Jack was the bold visionary and organisation builder, Daniel is more of the shrewd strategist and operator. Climb into the ring with either and you will probably get knocked out,” says Jeffrey Towson, a business professor at Beijing University. Alibaba, he adds, is the stomping ground for some 66,000 of the smartest people in China. How smart do you have to be to be at the top of that pyramid? “Daniel is widely regarded as crazy smart and very tough,” Towson says.

Zhang is a known quantity not just at Alibaba, but in the global business world. He’s been with the company for 11 years – and the past three years as CEO, effectively managing the firm, with Ma acting more and more as its figurehead. Under Zhang, Alibaba has switched from PC-based transactions to mobile, which now accounts for about 80 per cent of entire gross merchandise volume.

With a diploma in accounting from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Zhang first worked as a senior manager at global auditor PriceWaterhouseCoopers and then chief financial officer at Shanda Interactive Entertainment, a leading Chinese developer of online games. He joined Taobao, the Alibaba-owned e-commerce site, as chief financial officer in 2007. He stayed, climbing the ladder – becoming chief operating officer before taking over the chief executive role from Jonathan Lu in 2015. Zhang has also been seen a lot in the West, frequently appearing at the World Economic Forum in Davos and other high-profile events. “With a strong finance background, he can also build more confidence with investors,” says Jason Yu, general manager of Kantar Worldpanel China, a company analysing consumer behaviour.

Zhang has also been developing the company’s New Retail concept, fusing physical retail and e-commerce. Alibaba’s futuristic Hema supermarkets, launched in 2015 and already buzzing in 13 cities across China, offer deliveries within half an hour when you shop in store or on the app – no delivery slot booking needed.

Continuing to provide a premium shopping experience for millions of people a day is not an easy task though, and despite the tangible success of the past few years, Zhang does have pretty large shoes to fill. Connecting brands and consumers anywhere in the world is another priority for Alibaba in the near future, says Lloyd – with the aim of delivering any product from anywhere in the world to anyone within 72 hours. Will that happen during Zhang’s time as chairman? At Alibaba, it seems, anything is possible.\

HealthMeet The Doctor Who Turned Discarded Shampoo Bottle To Life-saving Device by sunky97(op): 6:56am On Sep 17, 2018
Dr Mohammod Jobayer Chisti from Bangladesh invented a low-cost device to make breathing easier for pneumonia patients using discarded shampoo bottles and some plastic tubing.

Pneumonia is a leading cause of death for infants and is seen in children below 5 years. The infection makes it difficult for the patient to breathe. For treatment, it requires expensive equipment like ventilators, which not every hospital can afford. Dr Mohammod Jobayer Chisti from Bangladesh invented a low-cost device to make breathing easier for pneumonia patients using discarded shampoo bottles and some plastic tubing. Using an oxygen supply and shampoo bottle filled with water, he built a bubble-CPAP ventilator.

The bubble-CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) ventilators channel the infant’s exhalations through a tube, which has one of its ends immersed in water. The exhaled air bubbles up from the liquid cause fluctuations in the air pressure of the tube. The rapid pressure changes are fed back to the child’s lungs, stabilizing the exchange of carbon dioxide for oxygen.

Dr Chisti hopes one day it will reduce child pneumonia deaths from nearly a million a year to zero. Kudos to Dr Chisti for the low-cost solution which only costs INR 90 ($1.5) to make that could save life of infants worldwide.

HealthWhy Do My Breasts Itch Inside? by sunky97(op): 6:24am On Sep 17, 2018
The Short Answer from a breast expert:

Breast itching is not uncommon. Although it is not typically a sign of breast cancer, any breast symptom should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to be sure.

Itching may develop following breast surgery or cancer treatment. But assuming you have not had previous breast problems, it may be a sign of dry skin or minor inflammation. Using a good moisturizer such as Lubriderm® can help.

If the itching is truly “inside,” it might be helpful to stop caffeine. You can also try an herbal supplement called evening primrose oil, 1000 milligrams twice a day for three to four months, to try to “calm down” breast tissue.

The one thing I would worry about is if the nipple itself looks abnormal — reddened, flaky or ulcerated. A rare form of breast cancer, called Paget’s disease, can present in this way and may cause itching.

SportsKenyan Kipchoge Shatters Marathon World Record In Berlin by sunky97(op): 6:13pm On Sep 16, 2018
Kenya’s Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge pulverized the marathon world record with a blistering run on Sunday, slicing a staggering 78 seconds off the previous best to land the one major running crown that had eluded him.

Berlin Marathon – Berlin, Germany – September 16, 2018 Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge celebrates winning the Berlin Marathon alongside a clock showing his World Record breaking time REUTERS/Fabrizio Bensch
The 33-year-old, widely seen as the greatest marathon runner of the modern era, ran an official time of two hours, one minute and 39 seconds on a sunny day along the flat inner-city course, smashing Dennis Kimetto’s previous record that had stood since 2014.

Fellow Kenyan Gladys Cherono won the women’s race with a course record and best time of the year of 2:18:11, leaving Ethiopians Ruti Aga and pre-race favorite Tirunesh Dibaba in second and third place respectively.

Kipchoge’s run was the biggest improvement on the marathon mark since Australian Derek Clayton took almost two and a half minutes off the record in 1967.

“I lack words to describe this day,” said a beaming Kipchoge, a former world champion over 5,000 meters and marathon gold medalist at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016. “I am really grateful, happy to smash the world record.”

Athletics – Berlin Marathon – Berlin, Germany – September 16, 2018 Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge celebrates winning the Berlin Marathon and breaking the World Record REUTERS/Fabrizio Bensch

“They say you can miss it twice but not a third time. So I want to thank everyone who has helped me,” said Kipchoge, who had won in Berlin in 2015 and 2017.

“I am just so incredibly happy to have finally run the world record as I never stopped having belief in myself. Running a sub two hours two minutes was simply amazing and I believe I can still go below that with such good conditions.”

Kipchoge, who last year took part in the Nike Breaking Two project, where he ran two hours and 25 seconds with the aid of “illegal” in and out pacemakers, started off at a sizzling pace.

After quickly shaking off his biggest rival, Wilson Kipsang, and with virtually no wind, it was clear Kipchoge’s only opponent would be the clock.

His three pacemakers were pushed to the limit to keep the tempo high as Kipchoge dipped well below world-record time at the halfway mark.

RUNNING ALONE
Yet even after the last pacemaker peeled off after 25 kilometers, Kipchoge showed no sign of slowing as thousands of Berliners lining the streets egged him on.

Berlin has now been the stage for the last six men’s world records over the distance.

“It was hard running alone, but I was confident. I ran my own race, I trusted my trainers, my program and my coach. That’s what pushed me in the last kilometers,” Kipchoge said, adding that he could have gone even faster had the pacemakers stayed with him up to the 30-km mark.

Kipchoge kept up the pace to sprint through the Brandenburg Gate and complete a world record race that cements his reputation as one of the greatest runners of all time.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated him minutes after his win as well as second-placed Amos Kipruto and Kipsang, who completed the African nation’s podium sweep.

“Congratulations Eliud Kipchoge for breaking the world record at the Berlin marathon 2018. I also congratulate his compatriots Amos Kipruto & Wilson Kipsang for going out valiantly to bring a 1-2-3 victory for #TeamKenya. You are our heroes. Kenya is proud of you,” Kenyatta wrote on Twitter.

Kipchoge has won 11 out of the 12 marathons he has raced in, including at the Olympics.

Family8 Ways To Wean Your Child Off Video Games by sunky97(op): 5:43pm On Sep 13, 2018
Studies link excessive gaming with conditions like depression, anxiety and social phobia, simple common sense dictates that too much time spent playing online games is counter-productive to a child’s healthy growth and development.

It is surprising that many articles which discuss strategies to reduce video-gaming time suggest “tiger-mom” measures such as removing the computer from the child’s room, installing access-limiting software, or simply pulling the plug on the computer. These methods, in my opinion, are confrontational, and send a message that the child lacks self-control. Pulling the plug will only drive your child elsewhere, perhaps to a friend’s house where controls are less strict.

Cooperation and respect should be the tools of first choice. I think the best way to wean kids of video-game dependence is to have the children themselves see the consequences of too much time online and make the decision for themselves to bring more balance into their lives.

Here are some suggestions to help reduce the amount of time our children spent playing video games.

1. Play a video game with your child.
Let your child teach you one of their favorite video games and give it a try. You may find the game instructive, challenging, or deplorable. In any case, you’re showing your child that you are open-minded and willing to try something new. After all, this is what you’re asking of your child in having them reduce time spent on video games. There’s a better chance your child will listen to your suggestions when you’ve shown a willingness to understand the appeal of these games.

2. For one week, keep a log of the time spent playing video games.
Ask your child to keep a record of time spent on gaming. (Or keep a record yourself.) At the end of one week, show them a visual representation of how much of their free time is going to this activity. Is it 10% of their time, or 50%? It’s likely that your child hasn’t considered this, and may be surprised at the results. Once you have some actual data, any argument over the amount of time spent on gaming is eliminated, and you can see if there is a problem, and to what degree.

3. Show them what that amount of time represents in other activities.
With some thought, you can develop a list of activities and opportunities that can be achieved in the same amount of time spent gaming. For example, in 1/4 that time you could learn to play a musical instrument. In 1/2 that time you could improve in a sport, learn how to fish, how to sew, grow a garden…. As a parent, you should be prepared to contribute to the new instrument, help the child get started in an activity program, or help buy supplies or equipment. The goal of this exercise is to show the child what activities he or she may be missing.

4. Arrange active indoor or outdoor activities for your children and their friends.
Help do the thinking and planning for alternative activities for your children. (They may be out of practice.) To make it more appealing, look for ways to include your children’s friends. Check the newspapers, your local community center, or school guidance counselors for local programs and resources for youth sports and activity programs. For example, your community may offer a boating club, sports programs, hikes, mountain bike trails, adventure trips, or other fun outdoor activities.

Offline activities do not always need to be extravagant or expensive. During high school, our son had regular Friday night poker parties with his friends. We enjoyed hearing them laughing and chatting in the back room, and kept them supplied with chips and drinks to help make it fun. Besides the obvious fun of the poker game, these young people were refining their communication and social skills, and planning other activities they could enjoy together.

5. Start a long-term project of your child’s choosing.
Your child may have an interest or goal that seems out of reach. If you can tap into something your child is passionate about, you may be able to help them realize their passion. Most children don’t think of long-term projects, but you can show them how planning and budgeting their time and money can bring big rewards.

When my son was 14 years old, he showed an interest in sailing. We gave him a pile of Wooden Boat magazines and asked him to choose a small design which we could build together. He chose a 14-foot daysailer, and we spent Saturdays during the school year doing the project. Over time, his friends began hanging out with us. They also found the project interesting, and enjoyed seeing something develop from a sheet of plans to an actual sailboat. And when the project was done, there was a new activity to enjoy.

Your child might want to build a surfboard, restore an old car (and learn a lot in the process), sew a dress, build a guitar, make a treehouse, create a garden, make a mountain bike course, or take on some other big challenge. Of course, as a parent your participation is required to help finance the project and help see it to completion. But a long term project with your child is rewarding to the parent as well!

6. Acknowledge your child’s efforts in offline pursuits.
One of the appealing aspects of video games is that anyone can play and receive instant gratification. Other skills, such as playing music, require time, effort and self-discipline before they become truly enjoyable. You can help your children find satisfaction in offline pursuits by acknowledging their efforts and progress along the way.

Research performed by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck has found that the way parents offer approval affects the way children perform and the way they feel about themselves. Dweck has conducted studies in which adolescent subjects were given a set of difficult problems from an IQ test. Afterward, some of the young people were praised for their ability: ”You must be smart at this.” Others were praised for their efforts: “You must have worked very hard.” The kids who were complimented on their intelligence were much more likely to turn down the opportunity to do a challenging new task that they could learn from. They didn’t want to do anything that could expose their deficiencies and call into question their talent. Ninety percent of the kids who were praised for their hard work, however, were eager to take on the demanding new exercise.

7. Have family meals together.
Playing video games is often a solitary activity. Even when my son had friends over, they would often sit beside each other at their own laptops, playing in parallel but not together.

Eating dinner together as a family provides a valuable opportunity for communication. A scheduled meal together helps lift children from the isolated bubble of their game consoles and engage the other members of the family in the exchange of ideas. Family dinners should be a place for open discussion, where the children can discuss their gaming accomplishments, should they choose, and where they can also hear the interests of all family members, which helps put time spent gaming in perspective. Dinnertime is also an opportunity for family members to discuss a variety of interests outside of the video-game arena and plan upcoming activities.

A “Family Dinner Experiment” conducted by Oprah Winfrey in 1993 challenged five families to eat dinner together every night for a month for at least a half an hour. At first the families found it difficult but by the end of the study they wanted to continue eating dinner together. The biggest surprise for the parents was “how much their children treasured the dependable time with their parents at the table.”

Encouraging your child to spend less time playing video games requires more hands-on time from the parents. This is not always easy, given the busy schedules of parents today. But the rewards are rich as we see our children grow, and as we spend more time with them.

8. Encourage other activities. There’s nothing wrong with gaming, as long as it doesn’t take over your teen’s life. You can prevent that by encouraging him to get involved in a range of activities, like sports, academic teams, theater, art classes or whatever interests him most. Push activities that involve socializing with his peers since gaming is mostly a solo activity.

EducationRidiculous Secret About Oscar Awards That Only Two Living People Know by sunky97(op): 11:37am On Sep 13, 2018
The result of the academy award, the Oscar winners have never, ever leaked out before the actual ceremony in 83 years.

the Academy Awards ceremony is one the most-viewed television events every year, and each year bookies all over the world take huge bets on the winners — even Vegas is considering getting in on the action on an official, legal basis . That’s how good the security is on this thing. That’s all thanks to Pricewaterhouse Coopers accountants, who handle all of the ballots on behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Accountants apparently being the only people who can count in Hollywood.

Who Knows?

Brad Oltmanns and Rick Rosas, accountants at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

How It Is Kept Secret:

First of all, each ballot is counted and the results tabulated totally by hand. Each year, these two men know who will win in all 24 categories approximately 48 hours before the ceremony because they counted it their damn selves.

This means they got to say “Marisa Tomei? Really?” before anyone else in the world.

Each ballot also includes an electronic control number, so that if a ballot is lost or stolen, that control number is immediately stricken and a replacement sent out. Other than that, though, nothing is computerized; the main reason they’ve never been hacked is simply that there’s nothing to hack. The two accountants use good old pen and paper to sort through the ballots sent in by the members of the Academy, which are marked in pencil, pen or, in at least one case, crayon.

Oh, and everything is counted in a windowless, secure room in a secret location. On the night of the Oscars, LAPD officers in tuxedos escort each man, via separate routes, to the ceremony. Each carries a suitcase containing half of the winning envelopes, presumably so that if one is hijacked or exploded by terrorists, at least they can go through with half the show and fill the rest of the air time with awkward comedy and dance numbers.

Even after they’re arrived at the theater, though, the accountants still aren’t allowed to let the envelopes out of their sight. They have to literally stand at the edge of the stage all night, without bathroom breaks, personally passing out said envelopes to the presenters. Also, they have to memorize all the results in case of slip-ups or Kanye-esque outbursts.

EducationWhat Does Nigerian Flag Mean To You? by sunky97(op): 2:31pm On Aug 28, 2018
This is Nigeria and our symbol is the Nigerian Flag.

Let us all, as Nigerians, hold the respect that is due, not only to our flag, our symbol of freedom, but to all of those who have given their lives and time defending her.

Have you thought about what the Nigerian Flag means?

What it symbolizes? Have you taught your children the history of the Nigerian Flag?

The flag of Nigeria was designed in 1959 and first officially hoisted on 1 October 1960. The flag has three vertical bands of green, white, green. The two green stripes represent Nigeria’s natural wealth, while the white band represents peace.
The flag was designed by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi in a competition held in 1959.

Akinkunmi was a 23-year-old student at the time he designed the flag. He was studying at Norwich Technical College in London, England, when he saw an advertisement in a newspaper that submissions were being accepted for the design of a new national flag of Nigeria.

The original submission had a red radiating sun badge in the central white vertical band with a green vertical band on each side.

After the badge was removed by the judges, the flag has remained unchanged. It was first officially used on 1 October 1960, the day Nigeria was granted independence from the United Kingdom.

I often think of how our flag grew into what it is today. It is so much more than 2 colors or a decoration. It is truly humbling to think of all that was given and sacrificed so that our flag, the Nigerian flag can fly freely across this nation.

Nigerian flag is a symbol not only of dignity of labour, valor, purity, creativity, vigilance, perseverance and Justice; it is a symbol of freedom. Freedom that has been fought so hard for over the decades. Freedom from,Oppression and slavery ( physical, mental and financial slavery).

I am born and raised a Nigerian, and the symbol of my country is Nigerian Flag. That flag will fly freely in my hand and should fly freely in any space Nigerians are found or in front of any building across this country.

Too many have fought and died for this country and what the flag represents. To NOT fly it freely is and would be a disgrace to all those who have fought for and protected our country throughout the years.

This honorable symbol has been burned, spit upon and stomped on, and yet she rises again and again. Let us all, as Nigerians, hold the respect that is due, not only to our flag, our symbol of freedom, but to all of those who have given their lives and time defending her.
May God bless Nigeria and those who defend her.

CareerBuhari Salutes Honest Security Men Who Returned Valuables by sunky97(op): 10:51pm On Aug 22, 2018
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos
President Muhammadu Buhari wants Nigerians to emulate two security men who returned a handbag filled with valuables forgotten at the Murtala Muhammed Airport by an American returnee, saying such conduct reflects the new Nigeria that we all desire.

A Lagos-based medical doctor, Banji Oyegbami, had met a family returning from America at the airport on August 18, 2018. In the process of loading their luggage into the car of their host, the handbag of the returnee’s wife fell, unknown to anyone.

It was not till 90 minutes later that an officer of Halogen Securities, on duty at the airport, called the couple, to come for the retrieved bag.

When the bag was eventually collected, the contents, including a handsome amount of American dollars, phone, wrist watch, and other valuables were intact. The grateful couple offered a generous gift, but Messrs Francis Emepueaku and Achi Daniel, declined, saying they were merely doing their duties.

President Buhari believes that despite the scoffing of a minority number, Nigeria is resolutely on the road to a new dawn.

“Honesty remains the best policy. We must exhibit such behaviour in whatever position we find ourselves, whether high or low,” he submits.

According to him, “The security men could have chosen to behave differently, following the self-serving principle of ‘if you can’t beat them, join them.’ But they have chosen to be examples of good, honest Nigerians. I commend their conduct to the rest of the country.”

The president urges Nigerians to bring out the best in themselves at all times, noting that with such minds, they can never be hoodwinked again by those who seek power for selfish and dubious reasons, and return the country to an inglorious past.

“Nigeria will no longer be a byword for corruption and plundering of public resources. That is the path we have chosen to take, and our country will eventually get to a new shore,” President Buhari affirms.

PoliticsWhy Killings Continue In Nigeria – US by sunky97(op): 10:56am On Aug 21, 2018
The United States has stated that killings in the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria were caused by impunity and non-prosecution of the perpetrators.

Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge de Affaires, US Embassy in Nigeria, David Young, said this in a chat with journalists in Jos after a meeting with church leaders in Plateau State.
“The Nigerian government should strengthen its laws to deal with killers,” he advised.
Young expressed sadness at the incessant killings and crisis between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Plateau State.
He thanked the 83-year-old Imam of Nghar village, Gashish District, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, who saved 300 persons including Christians, during the June 24 attack.

He added, “On behalf of the United States government and American people, I want to express again our condolences on the tragic loss of lives across Plateau, North-Central and North-West states.
“Quite a lot of people have died; it has been very terrible tragedies. We want to affirm the sanctity of human lives and anytime a person dies, it is a tragic loss, be that person a Christian, Muslim, Berom, farmer or herder.

“I think it is clear, we know and government knows that as well. A lot of people are doing good things and working hard.
“But it needs to be even more because it is clear that there is a climate of impunity. When people are committing serious crimes, they get away with it, without being brought to justice.”
