EducationA Surprising Test That Will Reveal The Truth About You by sunky97(op): 7:04am On Sep 20, 2017
What do our everyday habits, like how we carry a bag, reveal about us? A lot, as it turns out.

№ 1. Behind your back

If you prefer a backpack, you’re probably always ready for adventure and prepared to go at any moment. You’re also very considerate of things and other people alike, making you a person others willingly follow.

№ 2. In your hand

If you firmly hold your belongings in your hands, complete and utter control over everything is your motto. You love being informed of everything and always have your own opinion. You’re able to tell others the whole truth about themselves — if they ask, that is. Your reliability is legendary.

№ 3. On your shoulder

People who wear a bag on their shoulder love reading: this position allows them to fish out their favorite book even when there’s virtually no space for it. They’re so tactful that, even if they fall asleep during your monologue, they’ll do it with their eyes open while nodding in consent from time to time.

№ 4. Over your shoulder

If you carry your bag over your shoulder, no criminal will be able to steal your precious cargo. You’re a little bit prone to showing off your huge wealth, but you’re very generous at the same time. Be careful, though, as some may perceive this trait of yours as a weakness and use you to their own advantage.

№ 5. On your belly

What was that rushing past you just now? A tornado? Nope, that’s a person who carries their bag on their stomach — that’s the only way it’s not blown away by the wind made thanks to their speed. The eccentricity of such people is often beyond any limits, but this is quite indicative of their quick mind and vivid imagination.

CareerNigeria’s Amina Yuguda Wins BBC World News Komla Dumor Award by sunky97(op):
A Nigerian presenter has won the prestigious BBC World News Komla Dumor Award.

Amina Yuguda
A journalist from north-eastern Nigeria has won the third BBC World News Komla Dumor Award. Amina Yuguda is a news presenter on local network Gotel Television, where she has reported on high-profile news stories, including the Boko Haram insurgency.
She will start a three-month placement at the BBC in London in September. The award was created to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014. Ms Yuguda said her win was a “huge honour”.
“I was overwhelmed with joy. Storytellers have always had an important role in Africa… this is what defines us. Today journalists are taking on that responsibility.”
She impressed the panel with her story-telling and her ability to convey complex ideas in a way that resonates with a wide audience.
She is excited to work at the BBC, given her understanding of the corporation’s impact among pastoralists in her hometown, saying in her application:

“With little or no formal education, my countrymen can hold their own in a variety of topics, including the Trump presidency in America, North Korea’s defiance, Russia’s foreign relations under Putin, and more.”
BBC World Service Group Director Francesca Unsworth said Ms Yuguda was a worthy winner:
“To find someone who possesses many of Komla’s qualities is something for us to celebrate, and we are very excited about working with Amina.”
Previous winners of the Komla Dumor Award were Ugandan news anchor Nancy Kacungira and Nigerian business journalist Didi Akinyelure.

Politics‘Dear IPOB Member, Let Us All Go And Register And Get Our Pvcs Ready For 2019’ – by sunky97(op): 5:16am On Sep 17, 2017
Now that the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB movement has been declared a terror organisation, Facebook user, Dike Chidozie has a new advice for members of the movement.

According to him, ‘My dear IPOB brothers and sisters let us all go and register and get our PVCs ready for 2019. Channel our anger to the appropriate quarters with the strength of our votes (Igwebuike) .
Vote and protect our votes with the same strength , energy , passion and the desire we have for the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra. By so doing we are creating a solid foundation for the south Eastern Nigeria. Let us channel our anger to all the south eastern governors, senators , house of Rep members, and off course the ruling party because they have all failed our generation and the recent happenings in Abia state over the past weeks has once again proved to me that we need a complete change in the administration of the Igbo nation. The sound of the pen will always remain louder than the sound of the gun. I have my own PVC do you have yours?’

Family11 Clever Kitchen Hacks That Only The Professionals Know by sunky97(op): 5:50am On Sep 15, 2017
They say that architects cover their mistakes with ivy, chefs with mayonnaise. Unfortunately, not all your cooking mishaps can be fixed with the help of a thick layer of sauce. Sometimes you need to make use of much more tricky hacks. But don’t worry! In fact, from overcooking to over-salting, you can use simple ingredients to balance flavors and mask those screw-ups.
So before throwing out the dish you just made, or offering it to the dog, check out our culinary life hacks that will help you rescue your dinner and your pride.
1. Tough meat
Have you ever bought meat which really looked good but after cooking got hard and difficult to chew? If your answer is ’yes,’ don’t worry. Here are a few tricks to end up with tender, great-tasting meat every time.
Use fruits. Apple, pineapple, mango, and pear all work well. Peel the fruit if necessary, then cut it into thin slices. Cook the meat covered with slices of fruit. Fruit juices are great at tenderizing tough cuts of meat. That is why pork is very often cooked with pineapple.
Use sake. Prepare a marinade in a separate bowl by combining grated onion and apple. When done, add olive oil and a bit of sake. Marinate the meat overnight in the refrigerator to add flavor and tenderness.
Use Coke. Coke acts as a perfect meat tenderizer. Before frying, soak the meat in Coca-Cola for just 10 minutes. Then remove the meat from the marinade, let it dry a bit, and stir fry with black pepper. Use this method to give your meat dishes a delicious taste. And one more bonus: this recipe is suitable for fairly thick slices.
Use a lemon. Marinating meat in lemon juice for 30 minutes before cooking is enough to make it much softer. You can also use vinegar. However, in this case, the meat should be soaked in the marinade overnight.

2. Overly salty soup
If you’ve added too much salt to your soup, here are a few chefs’ secrets that will help you to rescue it:
The easiest fix is, of course, to add more water and cook your soup for a few additional minutes. However, this method may not be very appropriate since it can affect the taste of your dish.
If you have unsalted broth left over, simply add some of it to the pot. This will help you make your soup less salty without compromising on taste at all.
If the trick with the broth doesn’t work for you, you can try putting a small bag filled with rice into the pot. Rice is a great absorbent that has a way of soaking up the extra salt.
Some chefs also use refined sugar to fix the taste. Just place a cube of sugar onto a spoon and put it into the soup. Wait until the sugar dissolves and add another piece. Repeat several times until the salt level is acceptable.
Foods like potatoes, noodles, or pasta can also help to absorb salt. If the recipe allows, simply add more of these ingredients. If none of these products are included in the recipe, throw in a few peeled potatoes and let them cook for about 10-15 minutes before pulling them out. The potatoes will absorb the excess salt and won’t spoil the taste of the dish.

3. The harsh taste of onion

The sharp smell or taste of uncooked onions often leaves you feeling uncomfortable. However, cooking dishes without onion can be a challenging task. Luckily, here is an easy way to make raw onions tastier. Just slice or cut raw onions as desired, and put them into a bowl of cold water. This will help you get rid of the bitter taste.

4. Overly salty meat
Sour cream can help balance out excess saltiness in a meat dish. Put the meat in a bowl of sour cream, and let it chill. Alternatively, you can also add some unsalted oil or flour sauce (flour, water, and sour cream) to your dish. An unsalted garnish is one more way to salvage the food. If you’ve oversalted the ground beef, add finely chopped cabbage, zucchini, or grated raw potatoes to it. These ingredients will make your dish even more tender and juicy.

5. Overly salty veggies
Vegetable ragout will become less salty if you add a few tomatoes to it. Just chop them finely, and cook together with your over-salted dish. In order to remove excess salt from the cooked vegetables, you can pour unsalted boiling water over them and cook for a few minutes. Mushroom dishes can also be rescued by using unsalted sauces, garnishes, or sour cream.

6. Charred meat or other foods
If, while cooking the meat, you end up with a charred block of protein that is essentially raw inside, cut off the burnt layer and continue to simmer it with oil, water, or broth. In order to remove the burnt smell from your dish, transfer it to another bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. It will soak up much of the unpleasant odor. One more way to get rid of the burnt flavor and taste is to add hot milk to your dish.

7. Cooled dishes

Have you ever set up a buffet at home? If so, you probably know that keeping hot foods hot and cold foods cold until serving time can be challenging. Fortunately, the solution is quite simple. Just warm plates or other serving pieces in the oven for 5 minutes prior to putting food on them. Or chill the plates in the refrigerator if you’re planning to serve cold foods.

8. Broth with too much fat
If the broth has too much fat in it, put it in the refrigerator to get cold. Wait until the fat hardens on the top, and then remove it.

9. Pancakes sticking to the pan
There are several reasons why pancakes stick to the pan. If the batter is too wet, add some flour. If the flour is of low quality, add some semolina flour. It is also important to preheat the frying pan with oil before putting the batter into it.

10. Custard that is too thin
Custard must have a consistency thicker than cream or whipped cream. However, it can sometimes be too thin. Fortunately, there are some tricks to thicken it. Take a little flour and mix well. If it still does not thicken, add a little more. You can also try to cook the custard for a few additional minutes, or simply put it in the refrigerator.

11. Frostbitten vegetables
Letting frostbitten potatoes warm gradually for 5-7 days at room temperature (18-20°С or 64-68°F) can reduce their sweet taste. A frostbitten onion won’t be spoiled if you let it thaw at 3-5°C (37-41°F).

Education“my Uncle’s Wife Poured Acid On Me” – Burn Survivor Shares Her Story by sunky97(op): 10:20pm On Sep 12, 2017
For Obanye Francess Chizoba, the saddest day of her life was the day she sustained burns.
Chizoba, a graduate of Biochemistry from the Anambra State University, has been living as a burn survivor since she was 9 years old – when her uncle’s wife poured acid on her and ran away after the incident.
According to her, she meant to throw the acid on her brother, but she was scarred instead.
Living your life looking different from others can be challenging, but Chizoba says she has never felt emotionally depressed because she understands that she cannot change the situation.
Chizoba told fellow burn survivor Kay Obum that she is believing God to provide her money for a surgery. “Never give up on life no matter how hard it is” she said.

On what it has been like growing up with irregular scars?
“It happened when I was very tender. Have you ever have this feeling of people you grow up with seeing you and running away from you? That is the most painful part. When you go out, people will look at you and be scared of you, little kids will see you and run away, they will cry as if they saw a ghost.
If you have a problem with your fellow girl, she will insult you with what happened to you. God! It was not easy but grace was too sufficient. I accepted my challenge and i look for solution on how to move on. Thank God for my mum always there giving me courage. I started going to school, pairing with my mates and being happy.”
Her greatest consolidation
“From my mum, those people out there are not better than you. Believe strongly in yourself. God has a reason for you been like this that is why from that day he gave you that name Chizoba and that is the fact. And do you know what I hate the most? ‘pity’ it makes me have the feelings that am different.”

Health5 Everyday Habits That Are Causing You To Gain Weight by sunky97(op): 5:16am On Sep 12, 2017
You haven’t eaten fast food and candy for a long time, you exercise regularly, and you try hard to lose weight…but those extra pounds seem to just hang on. In fact, most people just don’t realize that their usual morning rituals can prevent them from getting the body of their dreams.

Below are 5 morning habits that you should give up right now:

1. You sleep too much

With too little sleep, your body is more likely to produce the stress-response hormone cortisol which increases your appetite. However, oversleeping might not be much better for you either. According to a recent study conducted by PLOS One journal, sleeping more than 10 hours a night can lead to a higher body mass index. It’s no wonder that doctors recommend getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep every day.

2. You get ready in the dark

Open the blinds or curtains immediately after waking up. One study in the journal PLOS Onefound that blue light waves from the early morning sun boost your metabolism and help your body wake up. Even 20 to 30 minutes of daylight is enough to affect your body mass index.

3. You don’t make your bed

It may sound strange, but it’s true. A study by the US National Sleep Foundation revealed that people who reported making their beds also reported better sleep overall. After all, healthy sleep is the optimal way toward a healthy weight.

4. You forget to weigh yourself

Researchers from Cornell University proved that daily weighing is a successful technique that encourages weight loss. The best time to step on the scale is first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. Since you lose water weight overnight, you’ll get the most accurate number.

5. You eat too little for breakfast

Researchers from Tel Aviv University insist that you should pamper yourself with a delicious meal in the mornings. In fact, a balanced breakfast that contains 600 calories of lean protein, carbohydrates, and some dessert will make it easier for you to follow your daily diet plan.

Career7 Sure Signs That Your Workplace Is Toxic by sunky97(op): 10:59pm On Sep 10, 2017
According to new mag, If your management focuses solely on what employees are doing wrong, you may be working for a toxic company.

Do you work in a toxic workplace?

In his book, Eye of the Storm: How Mindful Leaders Can Transform Chaotic Workplaces, executive coach Ray Williams describes the characteristics of toxic workplaces, and the part that dysfunctional leaders play in creating them. As he writes in Psychology Today, toxic workplaces will manifest in the following seven ways:

1. All sticks and no carrots

Management focuses solely on what employees are doing wrong or correcting problems, and rarely give positive feedback for what is going right. Or mostly carrots for the best performers, sticks for the rest.

2. The creeping bureaucracy

There are too many levels of approval and management to get things done and a singular focus on micromanaging employees.

3. The gigantic bottom line

Profits, beating the competition, and cost cutting are solely focused on without consideration of other bottom lines.

4. Bullies rule the roost

Management bullies employees, or tolerates bullying when it occurs among employees.

5. Loss of the human touch

People are considered to be objects or expenses rather than assets, and there is little concern for their happiness or well-being. There’s also little evidence of leaders’ compassion and empathy for employees. As a result, you’ll encounter high levels of stress, turnover, absenteeism, and burnout.

6. Internal competition

Employees must compete internally, which is enforced by a performance assessment system that focuses on individual performance rather than team performance.

7. Little or no concern for work-life balance

People’s personal or family lives must be sacrificed for the job; overwork or workaholism is commonly evidenced by 50-hour-plus workweeks, little or no vacation time, and 24/7 availability for work communication. There is little or no commitment to making contributions to the community, worthy causes, or making the world a better place.
HealthDangers Of Hair Relaxers To Women’s Health -teniola Adewumi by sunky97(op): 10:45pm On Sep 09, 2017
Not many are aware that some ingredients used for the hair products they apply can be dangerous to their health.
Concerned, Teni Adewumi, a Ph.D. student in Industrial Hygiene at the University of California Los Angeles Fielding School of Public Health, decided to do a research on this.

Teni wanted to know if hair relaxers and some other products with chemicals are healthy for women’s body and hair. She soon found out that relaxers and other chemical hair straighteners are harmful and may have links to high rates of reproductive health problems, like miscarriages, uterine fibroids, asthma dermatitis and hair loss. She found out through an extensive survey she carried out.

She has been educating users and hair stylists on the dangers of some hair care products that can cause chemical exposures and chemical-related health problems.
Teni is the environmental justice program coordinator at Black Women for Wellness, a California nonprofit organisation concerned about the health and well-being of black children.
In her capacity, she is helping to train stylists in safe products and practices, from ventilation and personal protective equipment to product designs and understanding labels.
She is also working to make salons safer for women.

Foreign AffairsObama Calls Trump Repeal Of Migrant Amnesty ‘wrong’, ‘cruel’ by sunky97(op): 6:01am On Sep 06, 2017
WASHINGTON – Former US president Barack Obama decried his successor’s decision to end an amnesty for 800,000 people brought to America illegally as children, describing it as “wrong,” “self-defeating” and “cruel.”

In a rare re-entry onto the political stage, Obama used a Facebook post to slam Trump’s decision and call on Congress to step in.
“To target these young people is wrong — because they have done nothing wrong.
It is self-defeating — because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel,” he wrote.

Foreign AffairsKenya Supreme Court Cancelled Presidential Election, Calls For New Polls by sunky97(op): 6:21pm On Sep 01, 2017
A report by Reuters has shown that Kenya’s Supreme Court on Friday declared President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election win invalid due to irregularities committed by the election board and ordered a new vote in 60 days.
The decision to cancel the result, the first of its kind in Kenya’s history, sets up a new race for the presidency between Kenyatta and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
East Africa’s biggest economy has a history of disputed elections. A row over the 2007 poll, which Odinga challenged after being declared loser, was followed by weeks of ethnic bloodshed in which more than 1,200 were killed.
“The declaration (of Kenyatta’s win) is invalid, null and void,” said Judge David Maranga, announcing the verdict backed by four out of the six judges and drawing cheers outside the court from Odinga supporters.
“The first respondent (the election board) failed, neglected or refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the constitution,” the judge said.
International observers had said they saw no sign of manipulation of voting and tallying at polling stations. Several observers said the opposition did not conduct a parallel tally and had not challenged results with complete data of their own.
Many voters in the west of Kenya, Odinga’s stronghold, and along the coast, where there is traditionally large support for the opposition, feel neglected by the central government and shut out of power.
“This indeed is a very historic day for the people of Kenya,” Odinga said after the decision. “For the first time in history of African democratization a ruling has been made by a court nullifying irregular elections for the president.”
A lawyer for Kenyatta, Ahmednasir Abdullahi, said the decision was “very political” and the election board had “done nothing wrong.” But he said the decision had to be respected.
Odinga has contested the last three elections and lost each time. After each one, he has claimed the votes were marred by rigging. In 2013, the Supreme Court dismissed his petition.
This time, his team focused on proving that the process for tallying and transmitting results was flawed, rather than proving how much of the vote was rigged.
Residents in the western city of Kisumu, where Odinga has strong backing, celebrated in the streets. Motorcycle drivers hooted their horns.
”Today is a special today and I will celebrate until I am worn out,” said 32-year-old Kevin Ouma.
Kenya’s dollar bonds fell after the ruling.

Education8-things-you-shouldnt-do-on-an-empty-stomach/ by sunky97(op): 8:56am On Sep 01, 2017
“You are what you eat” is an adage known to everyone. But what we do before a meal also has a great impact on our health.
Give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning to eat breakfast before leaving the house, or pack a few snacks in your bag to ensure that you have energy for the morning as you go out the door. Here’s a simple list to help remind you how important it is to fuel your body, especially before engaging in any of these common daily tasks:

1. Take anti-inflammatories

Aspirin, paracetamol, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can’t be taken on an empty stomach. Not only does it reduce their effectiveness but it causes serious health problems (such as gastric bleeding) as well. Read here about other medicines not to be taken on an empty stomach.
Advice: Milk lowers the negative effects of NSAIDs. If it’s not available, you can wash the drug down with plenty of water.

2. Drink coffee

Even decaffeinated coffee stimulates the production of acid that might cause heartburn and other digestive tract issues if drunk on an empty stomach. Skipping breakfast even after coffee may lead to a serotonin deficiency and a gloomy mood for the rest of the day.
Advice: If you’re unable to give up the habit of drinking coffee first thing in the morning, consume it with milk or cream: milk fat will reduce the negative effects. Choose natural coffee over freeze-dried.
3. Drink alcohol

Without eating, the alcohol absorption rate increases by a factor of 2 and is the same as during its intravenous injection. In contrast, the removal of alcohol breakdown products slows down, which provokes a severe hangover. The rapid effect of alcohol on the body doesn’t go without negative consequences for your liver, heart, and kidneys.
Advice: If the situation doesn’t allow you to refuse a drink, give preference to cooled noncarbonated drinks as they are absorbed more slowly. Better yet, eat at least a small sandwich, ideally one that contains butter.
Read more: uche-pedro-and-mark-angel-listed-among-most-influential-young-africans-2017

4. Chew gum

The digestive acid produced while you’re chewing gum destroys the lining of an empty stomach; overindulgence with gum may lead to gastritis. It is also scientifically proven that people who chew gum prefer junk food (French fries, candy) rather than fruit and vegetables.
Advice: Chewing gums containing natural sweeteners (xylitol, sorbitol) are less harmful than those with sugar, cyclamate, or aspartame. Avoid chewing gum for more than 10 minutes, even on a full stomach.

5. Go to bed
Hunger and low glucose levels prevent us from falling asleep and cause superficial sleep and early awakening. Interestingly, a lack of sleep increases the level of hunger hormones. This is the reason why we eat more on the following day after skipping dinner.
Advice: Gorging yourself before sleep is also a bad idea. The best solution is dairy products because they contain magnesium and calcium. These elements will ensure a sound sleep.

6. Intense training

There is an opinion that exercising on an empty stomach burns more calories. In truth, that doesn’t influence fat loss. Muscle loss, on the other hand, is real. The exercise intensity is also reduced since the body lacks energy.
Advice: Replace intense training with aerobic exercise. If you have digestive issues, you’d better have a snack before any type of exercise because physical activity induces production of gastric juice, which is harmful to an empty stomach.

7. Shop

We all know that hunger makes us buy more food than we actually need. In fact, an empty stomach makes us more acquisitive even in non-food stores. According to research, the internal message of “I want food“ gets pared down to simply ”I want,” and the famished person obeys that message by buying things.
Advice: Besides a shopping list made in advance, paying with cash can also help you save money. Further research shows that people tend to spend less when they pay with cash instead of a credit card.

8. Drink citrus juice

The acid and tough fibers contained in citrus fruits irritate your empty stomach, which is especially dangerous for those who have gastritis or are at risk of developing it.
Advice: Freshly squeezed citrus juice will bring nothing but benefits if you dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio (for those with hyperacidity) or 2:1 (for all others). By the way, there are other foods besides citruses that shouldn’t be eaten on an empty stomach.

PoliticsWhen Will Nigeria's Story Be Like Dubai's transformation story? by sunky97(op): 11:05pm On Aug 26, 2017
When will Nigeria's story be like Dubai's transformation story?

Dubai is a city that has experienced transformation from the land of desserts and camels, into the city of towers and marbles.

How could one not believe in the power of possibility?
The story of Dubai can be likened to a 'grass to grace' kind of story, where from nothing it has become something remarkable, world class, and superlative, outstanding.

EducationHow To Make Your Kids Smarter - 10 Simple Guide by sunky97(op): 9:21am On Aug 21, 2017
Scientists often cite the first ten years of a child's life as the "window of opportunity."Everything at this time is critical to improving the "wiring" of a person's brain. These are the ages when the brain can form the most neural networks. Here are what to do
:

1.Don’t Read To Your Kids, Read With Them:

Got a little one who is learning to read? Don’t let them just stare at the pictures in a book while you do all the reading. Call attention to the words. Read with them, not to them. Research shows it helps build their reading skills. shared book reading is an effective vehicle for promoting the early literacy ability even of disadvantaged children when enriched with explicit attention to the development of children’s reading skills and strategies.

2.Engage them in learning music : Studies show that learning music makes kids smarter. On average, music students perform better on standardized tests and have higher overall GPAs. In one experiment, it was found that taking piano lessons even helped raised IQ significantly.

3.Always eat good breakfast : Kids who eat breakfast have better memory and longer attention spans. A child's brain needs a proper balance of nutrients such as glucose, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B, zinc, and folic acid.

Whole grain cereals and oatmeal have been found to be a better start to the day than sugary cereals like Cap'n Crunch.

With toddlers, breastfeeding has been shown to improve health and intelligence.

4.Don't deprive them of night sleep :

According to research by Sadeh the expert in this field  “A loss of one hour of sleep is equivalent to [the loss of] two years of cognitive maturation and development,”

Teens who received A’s averaged about fifteen more minutes sleep than the B students, who in turn averaged fifteen more minutes than the C’s, and so on. Missing an hour of sleep turns a sixth grader’s brain into that of a fourth grader.

5. IQ Is nothing Without Self-Discipline:

Self-discipline beats IQ at predicting who will be successful in life.

From Charles Duhigg’s excellent book The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business:

Dozens of studies show that willpower is the single most important keystone habit for individual success… Students who exerted high levels of willpower were more likely to earn higher grades in their classes and gain admission into more selective schools. They had fewer absences and spent less time watching television and more hours on homework. “Highly self-disciplined adolescents outperformed their more impulsive peers on every academic-performance variable,” the researchers wrote. “Self-discipline predicted academic performance more robustly than did IQ. Self-discipline also predicted which students would improve their grades over the course of the school year, whereas IQ did not.… Self-discipline has a bigger effect on academic performance than does intellectual talent.”

6. Learning Is An Active Process (Teach them how to learn through constant practice):

Our brains evolved to learn by doing things, not by hearing about them. This is one of the reasons that, for a lot of skills, it’s much better to spend about two thirds of your time testing yourself on it rather than absorbing it. There’s a rule of two thirds. If you want to, say, memorize a passage, it’s better to spend 30 percent of your time reading it, and the other 70 percent of your time testing yourself on that knowledge.

7. Make your kids Happy (Happy Kids = Successful Kids):

Happier kids are more likely to turn into successful, accomplished adults.

On average, happy people are more successful than unhappy people at both work and love. They get better performance reviews, have more prestigious jobs, and earn higher salaries. They are more likely to get married, and once married, they are more satisfied with their marriage.

The first step in creating happier kids is being a happy parent.

8. Teach them how to pray:

Teaching your children to pray is like teaching your children to love. Teaching them to love is teaching to appreciate themselves and everyone around them for who they are. This builds humility in them and boosts their  love for God and humanitarian activities.

Prayer is a love relationship with God. When your children learn to pray to God, they should be learning to love God and experience his love for them. We want our kids to love their heavenly Father like we want them to love us and others. Jesus prayed all the time and he was our living example of how, when and why we pray.
That is why the Apostle Paul said, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

9. Believe In Them:

Believing your kid is smarter than average makes a difference. An experiment shows that When teachers  told certain kids you are  sharper, those kids did better — even though the kids were selected at random.

Believe in them and let t.Praise good effort, not intelligence:

Your kids may be smart, but you should focus your praise on the effort they put into succeeding at tasks.

Kids who are praised on intelligence often feel it is a fixed trait, and mistakes or failures severely hurt their self-confidence.

Kids who are praised on effort often focus more on learning, and are not afraid of a challenge, or to fail and try again.

EducationThe 22 Year Old OAU Student Who Built A Million Dollar Hedge Fund by sunky97(op): 9:57am On Aug 17, 2017
When you meet Christopher ‘King’ Bowofade, you are sure in that first minute of conversation that you have met no ordinary 22-year old. Your astonishment quickly grows when he tells you how, in less than two years, he went from a being a student who saw his parents struggle to send him his monthly allowance to building an investment company with 15 full-time employees and over N600 million under management.
The company he built, Better Days Investments (BTD), buys and sells futures and options daily on behalf of 7,902 individual investors who get returns anywhere from 10% to 30% monthly, a performance that I found difficult to believe when I first heard about it.
Somewhere in the middle of my chat with him, I couldn’t help but ask, how does a young kid who got rejected twice to study Economics — first as a secondary school leaver and later as an Ordinary Diploma Holder —convince thousands of investors to bet on him?
His short answer: “People work with you based on what you say you are.”
In late 2012, he was a fresh Diploma graduate, second best in his Conservation Science and Tourism class with a 4.41 GPA, but he was determined to be more than that. During the long break that preceded his direct-entry application to the Department of Economics at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), he stayed back in school to learn about a variety of fields over free school internet. He quickly became adept at graphic design and web development. But what really caught his eye was the financial market: forex, futures, options and binary options. These quickly became an obsession.
He would lose his first investor (his mum)’s $100 in one week, but this didn’t deter him. He found some British fund managers who became his mentors. He learnt to give one of them his money to trade for him. The fund manager returned 50% in a month. He was ecstatic. Once he was able to achieve that kind of return month after month, he felt ready to raise more money.
One of his earliest investors and evangelists was Johnson Alabi, the third best student in the Conservation Science and Tourism Diploma class. Johnson was one of those who urged him to start a company. Christopher used his PHP and CSS skills to build the company website, and they were ready for business. Their first investors would mainly be students looking to earn extra money; their first part-time staff, too.
In November 2015, BTD registered as simply a Commission Agency with CAC (neither SEC or CBN regulates speculative funds in foreign markets) and started out with N1 million from 20 investors. As returns came, word of mouth spread. Christopher and Johnson created a structure where investors signed up to be agents and earned commissions to manage other investors they brought in. At some point, they were doubling investors and asset under management every month.
They were working so hard, they forgot to go to class. This was the first year as 200 level undergraduates at the Geography department at OAU. At the end of first semester, Johnson had a GPA of 2.6, Christopher had a 1.9.
Mavrodi Mundial Moneybox (MMM)
As the business grew, Christopher’s challenges were more than academic. 2016 was the year when exchanging Naira to Dollar was difficult. BTD worked around this by securing a large single black market source and by returning Naira cash flows from new investors to old ones without touching the dollar capital base. He also had trouble maintaining investor returns as capital grew.
He and his COO, Johnson, fought over many issues and finally parted ways. Some of his best student-staff would leave him or he would be forced to sack them over issues that ranged from petty to material.
But his biggest challenge yet was in December 2016, when majority of his investors who had thought BTD was some kind of multi-level marketing scheme started to request to withdraw all of their funds following rumours that Nigeria’s largest multi-level marketing scheme, MMM, had crashed.
“This was depleting our capital so much that it challenged the company’s sustainability.” That was Christopher putting it mildly. This was an existential crises that could have wiped out over 80% of his fund, as well as BTD itself, in under a month. He took firm action and froze the fund. He also revealed himself to many of his Lagos-based investors for the first time (some who had exposure of up to N30 million), and organised an Investor Conference in February of this year to allay their fears.
The road to startup success is dotted with what sometimes are the truest tests of skill and character. Bowofade, as he is sometimes called by friends, has had to quickly learn programming and trading in the financial markets while proving that he can make tough decisions as a leader. “Not many people can trade binary options,”He quipped at some point in our chat, “It requires that you make really important decisions in a split second.” He has been an ardent student of Trading Psychology, a term popular among traders that describes the emotional and mental make-up needed to succeed as a trader, built on the three cornerstones: stamina, patience and discipline. In addition, he has to embrace fear and take risk without flinching.
But Bowofade struggles in some respects, especially in dealing with people. According to Johnson Alabi, “Bowofade can be poor with human relations, he prefers online relationships.” He has an inordinate need to feel secure and be surrounded by loyal people. This means that he has a tendency to keep mostly yes-men around him instead of those who can challenge his ideas. This easily leads to mediocrity if not checked.
From Zero to One
What’s the future of BTD? Christopher sees it in the near future as being a potential challenger to well-established finance houses like ARM, FBN Capital and Chapel Hill Denham, investing in traditional financial instruments like real estate and infrastructure but also leveraging technology a lot more. For example, leveraging blockchain technology to be the first established finance house making investments in cryptocurrency. He is a blockchain enthusiast whose $75 personal investment in Bitcoins two years ago is now $2000.
“Blockchain technology has the power to disrupt conventional business models,” he says. He goes on to explain how e-commerce sites can accept cryptocurrency, businesses can raise capital through Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs), and bottom-of-the-pyramid projects in sub-Saharan Africa can benefit from the transparency, stability and trust that blockchain offers.
When Christopher unfreezes his fund by December, shedding short-term-focused investors for those who will join him for the long ride to building a sustainable company, he would have fully experienced his zero to one moment: when you build something out of nothing.
That moment is precious. You join the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame, for starters (at OAU, it is a long list that includes the oldies like Femi Otedola and Ibukun Awosika, and the newbies like Opeyemi Awoyemi of Jobberman and Biola Olaniran of Gamsole). You may still be a student (or not; Christopher has been informed that he needs to renew his studentship), but you become a moving part of a new and growing economy. This moment is not for anyone: it belongs to those who refuse to think at the same plane as the majority of people, who have visions to truly change the game and who don’t mistake schooling for getting an education.

BusinessWho Is Richer Than Bill Gates? by sunky97(op): 8:49am On Aug 17, 2017
Who is richer than Bill Gates?
Someone asked Bill Gates, Is there any person richer than you? He said, yes, only one. Many years ago, I had been dismissal and I had gone to New York airport. I read titles of newspapers there. I liked one of them and I want to buy it. But I didn't have change (coin). I abandoned, suddenly, a black boy called me and told, “This newspaper for you.” I said, but I don’t have change. He said, “No problem, I give you free”. After 3 months, I went there. Coincidentally, that story happened again and that same boy gave another free newspaper again. I said, I can’t accept. But he said, “I give you from my profit.” After 19 years, I had been rich and I decided to find that boy. I found him after one and half months searching. I asked him, do you know me? He said, “Yes, you’re famous Bill Gates.” I said, you gave me free newspaper in 2 times many years ago. Now, I want to compensate it. I am going to give you everything that you want. Black young man replied, “You can’t compensate it!” I said, why? He said, "Because I gave you when I was poor. You want to give me when you are rich. So, how do you compensate?" Bill Gates said, I think that black young man is richer than me. You don't have to be rich or wait to be rich to give.

HealthCommon Food Habits That Help Bacteria Spread by sunky97(op): 7:52am On Aug 14, 2017
Getting some bacteria with your food is the risk you take if you eat birthday cake after the candles have been blown out, dip a chip in salsa after someone else double-dips or eat toast that has fallen on the floor — yes, even just for five seconds.
Image result for dirty food habit
Paul Dawson, a food scientist and professor at Clemson University, has made it his mission for 30 years to understand how our common food habits may be increasing the spread of bacteria. Of course, the risk of becoming ill is typically low, but swapping bacteria through food can increase the chances.
Some commonly practiced food habits that may be dangerous :
1.Eating birthday cake after the candles have been blown out
Blowing out candles on a birthday cake is a tradition that some scholars say dates to ancient Greece. But because your mouth contains bacteria that can spread through blowing, the practice is pretty dirty. Paul Dawson said. “I don’t know the chance of this occurring, but in fact if someone is sick, carrying a disease, and blows on the birthday cake, there is going to be bacterial transfer.”
2. dipping a chip in salsa after someone else double-dips
Paul Dawson and his team put chips in three types of dip with different pH levels and consistencies: salsa, chocolate syrup and queso.
No mouth bacteria were found in the dips when chips were dipped only once. But when double-dipping occurred, there were much higher bacterial populations in the dip. And the type mattered: Salsa that had been double-dipped had five times more bacteria than the chocolate and cheese.
Dawson attributed this to some basic food science principles.
“Common sense tells you that if you bite it and dip it in the salsa and more of it falls back into the bowl and doesn’t stick to the chip, then there’s going to be more bacteria going back in the bowl with it,” he said.
Thick chocolate syrup and cheese dip are more likely to stay on a chip, resulting in less bacterial transfer.
3. Eating food that has fallen on the floor
Dawson and his students set out to understand the truth behind this food trope.
They spread salmonella bacteria on tile, carpet and wood. After five minutes, they put down bologna or bread and left it there for five, 30 or 60 seconds. They did the same thing after bacteria had been on the surface for two, four, eight and 24 hours.

“There was enough bacterial transfer in five seconds that from a practical standpoint, it’s not a really good idea to eat food from the floor,” Dawson said.
He said he doesn’t think it’s time on the floor that matters so much, but rather the type and amount of bacteria.
Donald Schaffner, a food microbiologist at Rutgers University, conducted the only other peer-reviewed five-second rule study. His findings, published last year, confirmed Dawson’s and showed that longer contact times with a contaminated floor resulted in the transfer of more bacteria.
4. Sharing the same bowl of popcorn with others

Sharing a bowl of popcorn at movies, sporting events, fairs and concerts is common practice. And it seems to carry only a very low risk of bacterial transmission.
Dawson and his team spread a noninfectious E. coli strain on people’s hands and then measured how much was transferred to the popcorn they picked up and the kernels left in the bowl. Though they observed that bacteria transferred to both the popcorn in the hand and the popcorn in the bowl, the rate of transfer was only 0.2% and 0.0009%, respectively.
Of 136 tests, 24 resulted in no bacterial transfer to the popcorn at all.
5. Checking out the menu list
As soon as you sit down at a restaurant, the waiter hands over a menu. You flip through all the pages and check out the back to make sure you don’t miss anything delicious. But those restaurant menus are often not washed and can be another culprit in the spread of bacteria.
After collecting random samples of local restaurant menus and testing them for bacteria,Dawson and his team discovered that for the most part, there were low numbers of bacteria living on them. At busier restaurant times, higher numbers of bacteria were on menus than in less busy periods.
When the researchers contaminated the menus with E. coli, 11% of the bacteria were transferred to people’s hands. Low amounts of the bacteria were also able to survive on the menus over a period of one or two days.

Is eating bacteria actually bad?
Randy Worobo, a food microbiologist at Cornell University, agreed.
“I would say that a good rule is, if a person is sick, they really shouldn’t be sharing food or preparing food to share with other people,” he said. “You don’t want to end up like Typhoid Mary.”
Mary Mallon, who became known as Typhoid Mary, worked as cook in the early 1900s and spread typhoid to many people who ate her food despite never developing symptoms herself.
Worobo added that in situations involving bacteria on the floor, like the five-second rule and beer pong, most bacteria are probably normal organisms found in soil.
“But if ie has dripped and not been cleaned properly, that has the potential for campylobacter and salmonella to be present on the floor,” he said. “So safety really depends on what has been on the floor prior.”
How many of these habits are you guilty of?

EducationWhat You May Not Know About Google CEO, Sundar Pichai by sunky97(op): 4:34pm On Aug 12, 2017
Sundar Pichai's story reminds me of this common quote "your background doesn't determine the height you will get to in life, you are the one that will determine what you will get out of  life"

Pichai Sundararajan, also known as Sundar Pichai, is an Indian American business executive. Pichai was Born on July 12, 1972 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

In February 2016, he was awarded 273,328 shares of Google's holding company Alphabet, which led to a rise in his net worth. These shares were worth $199 million, and this took his holdings up to $650 million. According to Bloomberg, this is the highest pay package that Google has ever given to an executive whose equity grants have been reported in filings.

Pichai, who had been serving as Google’s head of Products and Engineering before he was named the new CEO of Google which is the biggest company under Alphabet Inc.

Pichai  joined Google years ago in 2004 as a product manager and led the innovative efforts for several of Google’s products including Google Chrome and Chrome OS which went on to become highly successful. Eventually he took over the management of other Google products like Gmail and Google Docs, and rose through the ranks rapidly.

Facts You Did Not Know About Sundar Pichai

His father, Regunatha Pichai, worked as an electrical engineer for the British conglomerate GEC and managed a factory that made electrical components. His mother used to be a stenographer before having children. He has one brother. His father couldn't afford telephone until Pichai was twelve.

Pichai grew up in a middle-class home and as a bright student, he excelled academically at his school, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, and earned a seat in the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, one of the most prestigious engineering institutions in India.

He is very good at remembering numbers and could remember every telephone number he dialed when he was young.

He did his B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and then won a scholarship to study materials science and semiconductor physics from Stanford University from where he eventually earned his M.S.

He initially planned to pursue a Ph.D. from Stanford and embark on an academic career. However, he dropped out and joined Applied Materials—a Silicon Valley semiconductor maker—as an engineer and product manager. He did not work there for long.

He went on to complete his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (2002), where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar.

Following the completion of his MBA he was appointed as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company.

He joined Google in 2004. Initially he worked on Google’s search toolbar as a part of a small team. The toolbar gave users of Internet Explorer and Firefox easy access to Google search.

He also worked on other Google products like Google Gears and Google Pack. The success of Google’s toolbar gave Pichai the idea that Google should develop its own browser. He discussed his idea with his seniors and faced an objection from then-CEO Eric Schmidt, who thought that developing a browser would be a too expensive affair.

However, Pichai persevered and convinced the co-founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, to launch Google’s own browser. Pichai played a pivotal role in the ultimate launch of the browser, Google Chrome, in 2008. Chrome proved to be a great success as it allowed the users to directly access Google’s search engine.

Pichai became an internationally known figure following the phenomenal success of the Chrome which eventually became the No. 1 browser in the world, surpassing competitors such as Internet Explorer and Firefox. The Chrome also paved the way for a series of other important products like Chrome OS, Chromebooks, and Chromecast.

In 2008, Pichai was promoted to Vice President of product development. In this position he started appearing more often at Google presentations and continued rising up the ranks in Google. By 2012, he had become the Senior Vice President of Chrome and apps.

In 2013, Andy Rubin, the creator of Android, left to work on a different project. Larry Page then made Pichai in-charge of Android as well. His influence continued to increase and he was made the Product Chief in October 2014.

In 2015, Google formed a company, Alphabet Inc., to serve as a holding company and conglomerate to own the subsidiaries that were previously owned by Google, including a new “slimmed down” version of Google itself. On 10 August 2015, Sundar Pichai was named the new CEO of Google.

Pichai oversees a company with tens of thousands of employees, tens of billions in revenue and products that reach billions  of users.

Although, he is currently fighting corporate culture battle among his tten by   James Damorein, only time will tell how the issue would be resolved.

Pichai is surely a hero to many people worldwide.

Helsinki-based messenger Jongla announced Thursday that they had secured a $5.3 million (€5 million) Series B funding round, bringing their all-time haul to €12 million. The round was entirely dominated by Finnish investors Circlion Capital Oy, Matti Kallio, Henry Sjöman, and Kontino Invest Oy. Additional investors in the company include Gustav Nyberg, Kristian Pentti,Takoa Invest Oy, Ingman Finance Oy, and JSH Capital Oy.

Jongla founder Arto Boman communicated that the money will help them consolidate their hold in Nigeria, where they have landed in Lagos, and expand throughout Africa (and beyond). Other priority countries seem to make up a who’s-who list of emerging superpowers: Brazil, Turkey, India, Indonesia and Iran.

“Messaging apps are the new ecosystem for the next generation of apps and services. Our team of investors have seen first hand the positive direction the messaging business is heading in and they want to enable the next chapter of the Jongla story,” Boman said. “With the new capital and through new strategic partnerships, our aim is to further leverage AI and bots that we believe will revolutionize messaging between businesses and consumers.”

Their claim to fame is that they are, and I quote, the “world’s lightest, full-featured messenger.” They introduced Jongla Social Messenger to their app earlier this year, hoping to piggyback off that to expand in Africa with a marketing message that users can “save money and use less data” with a light messaging app. The app also lets you find friends who are close by. It’s available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Jongla CEO Riku Salminen added, “We have seen rapid growth this year, driven by the demand for light and social apps in emerging markets. This Autumn alone, our users have sent three times the amount of messages – the uplift has been huge.”

Jobs/VacanciesA 9-year-old Boy Applied For NASA Job And The Response He Got by sunky97(op): 9:33pm On Aug 06, 2017
A 9-year-old boy answered a call from NASA to protect Earth from aliens - and got an encouraging response to his job application.

He wrote.;

"My name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job," the fourth-grader wrote in a letter. "I may be nine but think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see."
"I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am alien, also I have seen all the space and alien movies I can see," Davis wrote in a letter sent on Thursday.

"I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an Alien,"

NASA's Planetary Science Division Director Jim Green promptly responded and gave Davis a more detailed prescription of the position.

Nine-year-old Jack Davis, a self-proclaimed "Guardian of the Galaxy," says he is ready to fight off aliens for NASA in its newly listed planetary protection officer position.

The space agency listed the new position this week and said in a post that they were excited to receive an application from Davis, a New Jersey fourth-grader, who laid out all the reasons why he is a great fit for the job.

"It's about protecting Earth from the tiny microbes when we bring back samples from the Moon, asteroids, and Mars. It's also about protecting other planets and moons from our germs as we responsibly explore the solar system," Green wrote.

While Davis might be a bit too young for the job, Green told him "study hard and do well in school."

"We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days!" he wrote.

PoliticsArchbishop Of Canterbury, Justin Welby Visits President Buhari In London by sunky97(op): 10:17pm On Aug 04, 2017
Today, Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby paid a personal visit to President Buhari at the Abuja House, London.

According to a statement by the president’s media aide, Femi Adeshina, the Archbishop and President Buhari are friends, who share deep respect for each other. Archbishop Welby said he was delighted to see the rapid recovery President Buhari has made from his health challenges, noting that it was a testimony to the healing powers of God, and answer to prayers of millions of people round the world.

The cleric pledged to continue praying for both President Buhari and Nigeria.
In his response, the Nigerian President thanked Archbishop Welby, whom he noted had always stood by him at critical times, and wished him God’s continued grace in his spiritual duty of leading the Anglican Communion worldwide.

It will be recalled that when former British Prime Minister, David Cameron described Nigeria as a “fantastically corrupt” country ahead of an anti-corruption summit in London in 2016, Archbishop Welby had retorted: “But this particular President (Buhari) is actually not corrupt.”
The Archbishop later personally received the Nigerian President at Lambeth Palace, London, and had also paid a goodwill visit to President Buhari in March this year, during his medical vacation.
